I think I understood the underlying theme of this book, but the author made it more difficult to read and understand than need be. It seemed he was trying to be either clever or funny to the detriment of the content.

Concise info on stretch IRA's.......2007-01-04
Ed Slott is considered THE expert on stretch IRA's. Book is aimed at investors who will probably die before depleting their IRA funds. It explains how to structure a stretch IRA to pass this money on to future generations with minimal taxation.
Book is better organized than Slott's previous books. It is very readable. I keep it for a reference and have purchased additional copies for gifts.
Requried Reading for Anyone with an IRA........2006-07-23
This book focuses on ensuring that your IRA is properly set up, so that it can be passed on to beneficiaries intact, effectively establishing a "stretch IRA". The stretch IRA describes an IRA held by a beneficiary, and which will pay out over their lifetime.
This book is very well organized, and the author is clearly very enthusiastic about his subject. He does quite well making his case, that you should ensure your IRA passes intact to a beneficiary, in that it can offer them HUGE tax advantages for their entire life time.
He is also quite good about explaining the steps you need to achieve this. Much of the book is reference material that will not apply to everyone at any given time, but that is not a real criticism. The book is cheap enough, and the sections that apply to all are worth the entire purchase price.
If you have an IRA, and you have any desire to pass your assets along to a beneficiary, this book is an excellent starting point.

Don't believe the subtitle.......2002-07-11
The subtitle is "Taking Money out of your IRA, 401(k), or other savings plan-- and creating lasting retirement income, but there's precious little useful how-to here. There's basically one chapter (9) that deals with the details of setting up a withdrawal plan and the advice boils down to "go find an investment advisor". Most of the book is spent explaining 401ks, IRAs, workplace plans, etc.
It's my own fault, though. Next time I'll read the TOC before buying!

Many rules and regulations govern pension plans. The technicalities are complicated and change constantly. People can make irrevocable errors doing something as simple as moving assets from one plan to another. Margaret A. Malaspina cuts through retirement plan red tape and explains the jargon. She shows you how to get to your money after you have worked hard to save it. This book demystifies your options and clarifies the consequences of your choices. The author makes reading about taxes relatively painless. We at getAbstract recommend this book to anyone planning retirement, switching retirement plans, or withdrawing retirement funds. However, because of its discussion of United States tax law, it is not useful to those in other countries.

Like so many of my friends, my husband's and my focus has been all about reaching some magic number that would say, ok,now it's safe to retire without going broke... We gave not a thought to how we'd manage the money afterwards. But then we began to hear rumors ... you must do this, you can't do that, and panic set in. Finally, after reading Ms. Malaspina's book, we understand what's really going on (better than we did after talking to our accountant!). I've given this book to friends and even a cousin who was 69-1/2 and didn't have a clue about the need to start drawing on certain retirement savings. Excellent Treatise On A Very Complicated Topic.......2000-02-07
Margaret Malaspina has done an incredible service to the taxpaying world in her book. As a Certified Public Accountant, I can attest to fact that dealing with the Internal Revenue Service Code is an extremely difficult process. She has consistently dealt with this complicated and very confusing subject and de-mystified it in a way that heretofore has never been done. As more and more assets of American citizens are finding their way into retirement accounts, the timing of this book is perfect. What might appear to be some type of simple election or investment decision can backfire in terms of significant additional taxes. She attempts and succeeds in identifying these problems and proposing appropriate solutions. I have read it thoroughly and have recommended it to my clients and friends.

Buy this book........2007-09-06
I haven't finished reading this book yet and I'm already hoping for a sequel. This book is so easy to follow and understand. The one issue that no author seems to address is how do you create a paycheck or generate cash flow from your investments. Live Long, Live Rich covers this topic very well. And as far as the software that Mr. Rappaport recommends, I've already upgraded to the full version. It's as easy to use as stated. So, with the mouse in one hand and the book in the other, our retirement plan is becoming much clearer. This book has helped us see the big picture.
My broker was blown away!.......2007-07-04
I just retired and have been speaking with my financial planner about how much income my accounts can produce and at what withdrawal rate I should use for my 401K. I brought up just a few of the points made in the book that my broker had not considered and we are using them as the basis for my plan. Everytime I read a chapter I seem to be able to understand and use the information in discussions with my broker. When I think of a change I might make I just plug the new numbers into the software and see how it will effect my results. It's easy to use and adjust. Best of all, my broker asked for the name of the book.

I have read quite a few books and have gone to several seminars and always left feeling unsure about what to do next. I was searching for a new source and was skeptical about everything but as ussual took another chance on Live Long Live Rich and I'm glad I did. I finally understand exactly what I need to do. The book and software made it easy to get a picture of where I am now and where I want to be. I looked up the software and it is much more expensive seperately.
Clear and understandable financial information.......2007-06-28
Most books are too filled with financial techno-babble. Now this book does have terms like "Annuity" and other specific financial terms but the good part is that it explains these concepts in a clear and understandable way. Most books just "assume" a certain amount of knowledge and proceed leaving the reader confused. The retirement planner software on the CD is also a big eye opener.

This book brought clarity to how we are planning our retirement. His clear explanations of retirement income, how we determine what we need and how we continue to create wealth made me feel our finances are now fully under control. I loved using the program included with the book - my husband and I could literally 'see' what is going on with our money.
I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to better understand and control their retirement.

This biography of John Mann Goggin recounts the story of Florida archaeology from its 19th-century beginnings to the present through the life of its most influential pioneer, a charismatic personality who, more than any other individual, shaped and reshaped Florida archaeology. It is a story of a time and place long vanished, when Florida fieldwork was always on adventure.
Florida archaeology has been influencing the development of archaeological content and theory on a national level for more than a century and Goggin has been a major participant in this evolution. This account reveals the person as well as the archaeologist and examines how Goggin's personal life influenced his way of working and thinking. Weisman critically evaluates Goggin's contributions to the field and also the impact of his work on major themes and trends in Florida archaeology, among them the strong culture-area approach that continues to serve as a foundation for current applications.
Until now, Goggin has remained an enigma to most professional archaeologists, even to many who knew him. This biography explores his intellectual development and the context of his ideas and accomplishments: he established the state's first academic Department of Anthropology (at the University of Florida), pioneered scientific underwater archaeology and historical archaeology, and spearheaded the first major archaeological studies of Spanish colonial material culture in Florida and the Caribbean.
