This edited volume examines the flaws in the Washington Consensus. The missing link identified is the relationship between market and government. The East Asian Miracle showed that the market and government are complementary, particularly with regard to economic development. However, the nature of this relationship has not been fully clarified. This book assesses development strategies and policy issues in the context of individual and/or regional economy's history and political-economic reality. The relationship may be conditional to these two factors. With these perceptions in mind, the book focuses on the role and significance of government in economic development in pursuit for new development strategies.

I was encouraged to read the testimony of Kirbyjon Caldwell in how he stepped out to his calling and ventured into a dying church, and being used of God to revive it into something that no one could have imagined. This book is a good guide for one who is looking to understand what holistic salvation is, where good success is part of it. In a sense, salvation does not just mean that we have saved from hell, but that salvation is also being saved from the effects of the devil, health, healing, etc. In a word... it is WHOLENESS.

Caldwell gives 6 main points to holistic salvation, (1) Find Your Calling, (2) Stage a Comeback, (3) Take the Faith Walk, (4) Whup the Devil, (5) Create Wealth God's Way, and (6) Develop God-Blessed Relationships. In the book, he explains in detail each of the main points, and has numerous nuggets of insight and revelation hidden between the pages. You can take this book as someone counseling you through the areas of your life, and answering the questions that is asked, and work through issues that it talks about, you begin to walk in that wholeness of God.

The only part of this book which I found difficult was the colloquailisms used which would not be understood in cultures different from the writers. However, it brings a lot of good truths, and the following are some of the one-liners.

- God may promise, but you must push.
- Do what you love, the money will follow.
- God cares more about who you can become that who you've been.
- Faith is not bound by fact or intellect.
- Trust = Belief + Action. Belief is static; trust is dynamic.
- Real growth always involves change.
- Never consider yourself above criticism, beneath redemption, or beyond hope.
- Faith + Good Stewardship + Giving = Abundance
- Even if you have absolutely nothing... no one can deny you your power to believe!

A Plan for the Future.......2005-04-20

In his book, THE GOSPEL OF GOOD SUCCESS, Kirbyjon Caldwell depicts a pathway to what he refers to as `holistic salvation'. To be successful on this journey there are six steps that must be personally internalized and outwardly exhibited. These steps are: Finding Your Calling, Staging a Comeback, Embarking on a Faith Walk, Whupping the Devil, Creating Wealth God's Way, and Learn and Practice the Fundamentals of God-Blessed Relationships.

Caldwell intertwines the word of God with his own personal experiences as the Pastor of Windsor Village United Methodist Church in Houston, TX to clarify the steps to holistic salvation. His flowing writing style is energetic, informative and thought-provoking. He discusses with honest candor and a shining zeal the steps he has taken in his Christian walk to achieve spiritual success, and in doing so, he plants food for thought in the mind of his readers.

When I first selected this book, I thought it would cater to having a successful business, and possibly offering advice on how to create and launch a business plan. Yet, this wasn't really the case. THE GOSPEL OF GOOD SUCCESS is an individual guidebook into healthier, more wholesome relationships with yourself, your peer groups and your God.

I have read this book at least 4 times and each time I am inspired and encouraged. If you are trying to change your life or accomplish your goals, this is the book to read! The author is truly an blessed and knowledgeable man. I can confess I have made some truly positive changes in my life after reading this book.

SPIRITUALITY AND SUCCESS.......2001-01-24

I read this book because of the author's skillful and articulate interview on the Bill O'Reilly televised show. I liked his demeanor and his clarity on the power of perception. His book is equally concise. He offers common sense religious avenues for dealing with the issues of today, and transforming your life. His road map covers emotions, finances, career, health, parenting. Among his six strategic steps to success is "stage a comeback". I especially liked that passage. It dissipates the perception of failure. A mistake is an opportunity to make a wiser decision the next time. If you enjoyed, Reverend Jesse Lee Peterson's "From Rage to Responsibility", and Harold Klemp's,"Secret of Love", you will glean a lot from Pastor Kirbyjon Caldwell's , "Gospel of Good Success". I did. Start working on your self-esteem and your self-confidence today. Your success is in your hands.

This book is a must read! If you are struggling on how to bring some of your dreams to fruition please read this roadmap to WHOLENESS. I am not the avid reader but I was so engrossed and encouraged in his philosophy toward Holistic Salvation. the Gospel of Good Success opened my mind to new directions that I needed to begin for my journey of perservance when completing my goals. I have found new life within these 256 powerfully written words.

I have read a number of financial planning books just to get different views from financial advisors and I have to say that this one tops my list. I myself am a financial planner and currently studying for my CFP. This book was an easy read for those who may not know too much about financial planning. It also contains a wealth of information and insight to provide value to people like me who have a financial background. One of the comments I read about the book before I read it made it seem as having an advisor with a CFP did not matter. As Mr. Zhang points out in his book only 4% of advisors have their CFP because it is such a rigorous process that includes a two day 10 hr exam! After all if it was a simple exam why wouldn't all advisors get certified? I really enjoyed reading this book and I have recommended it to my other colleagues.

This book is one of the best on the market today relating to personal financial planning. I found it to be very well organized and complete; it covered all the ESSENTIAL areas of financial planning. The ideas that were presented by the author are sound, and extremely logical.

This book was actually recommended to me by my father. He is approaching the retirement stage and wanted to ensure that his finances would allow for him to retire with my mother comfortably. He told me that the book did a good job of covering issues he was concerned with like retirement and estate planning but would also provide value for me and be a good place to start if I wanted to take control of my financial life.

I took his advice and purchased this book and I found it to be thoroughly comprehensive in describing financial products and planning techniques. It is perfect for investors of all ages who are looking to secure their financial future.

This truly is a great financial planning book. If I could give it 6 stars I would. It is set up in a concise, life events style with easy to understand examples. Being that I am new to family life as well as financial planning this book has really helped me to take a step back, evaluate and not only plan for my future, but for the future of my family.

Overall, I would say that this book is the best book in the market on personal financial planning that I have read. It is complete, covers all the essential areas of financial planning. The financial planning ideas are logical and clearly presented for people who may be new to financial planning and even those who are already experienced.

An Excellent Resource!.......2006-02-02

For many people, the thought of handing over their money to a financial planner is somewhat daunting, especially if they have limited knowledge of the financial planning process. In their book "Make Yourself a Millionaire..." Charles and Lynn Zhang do an excellent job of breaking down and explaining both what you should consider when choosing a financial planner, and what sort of service you should expect once you have chosen one.
I was speaking with a friend about how overwhelmed I was with this process; after all, these days you cannot turn on the TV or surf the web without seeing some sort of advertisement from someone who claims they can help you with your finances. She mentioned that she had heard about this book and suggested that I should look into it. I am so glad that I did. Not only was this book easy to read and understand, but it covers a wide range of topics, from explaining the certification process a CFP goes through, to outlining the benefits of different investment tools, such as mutual funds, bonds, and REITS. Additionally, I believe that those of you who are planning on setting up college funds for your children would benefit greatly from reading the Zhang's discussion of UGMA accounts, 529 plans, and Education IRA's. A chart is even provided to help break down the differences between these options, as well as a few others.
Reading this book helped me to both confidently choose a financial planner and feel at ease when discussing my investments. A must read for the beginning investor!!

This book is extremely helpful for the beginning investor. The book outlines the important aspects and steps of the financial planning process. Included are great strategies and facts for tax-free asset growth and efficient asset allocation. In addition, the author effectively explains complex, yet essential, information about different investment products such as REIT's, mutual funds, bonds and annuities.

This book gives readers the confidence to take control of their own financial future, while emphasizing the importance of having a financial planner. The role, significance and benefits of hiring a financial planner are explained in detail. Overall, the authors have given the reader excellent information to make a very important decision. Ultimately it is up to the reader to decide if their situation is simple enough to handle themselves, or if they would benefit from the expertise of a Certified Financial Planner.
