Book Description
This book teaches affluent types how to turn retirement into a wonderful new life. Includes: travel, mentoring and volunteering, hobbies and collecting, et al.
Customer Reviews:
Good if you have money!.......2005-06-14
This book is definitely written for those who have amassed some type of retirement nest egg and who have been engaged in working hard most of their adult lives. If you don't feel that you fit into that category, the book is still interesting, but probably not worth purchasing.
Having said that, the book has some interesting exercises and thoughts that parallel the 'New Retirement' ideas of Dr. Richard Johnson (creator of the Retirement Success Profile that I use when coaching about-to-be or already retirees). It discusses finances from the distribution side, rather than the acquiring side. Silton also talks about ways to replace the 'work habit' and continue to grow through retirement, qualities you need to have to undertake a successful retirement. He also warns about pitfalls in everything from travel to wills. The exercises he presents can be fun to do and provide a different way of looking at retirement. The underlying theme is that you need to craft the best retirement life for you. This is an excellent idea!
How to plan for, stay active through, and enjoy retirement.......2001-09-06
In Active Retirement For Affluent Workaholics: Planning For The Life You've Always Wanted, Peter Silton shows readers in their 50s through their 70s all about how to plan for, stay active through, and enjoy their retirement and the senior life they's always aspired to. Readers will learn how to do a rebirth (Kaneka), use money wisely (Wenjen); and begin a new life path (Ken-Tao); as well as keeping physically and emotionally fit; expand their hobbies and artistic pursuits; develop and maintain interests and relationships; control their finances and manage their estates. Here is practical, life enhancing advice on staying as active in retirement as when working with an earlier career, including travel, mentoring, volunteering, and enjoying what their affluence can accomplish in their behalf. Active Retirement For Affluent Workaholics is especially recommended for those seeking early retirement, or have had retirement thrust upon them because of workplace rules, health issues, or life-long ambitions which were deferred until their retirement years.
Well written and funny!.......2001-06-23
The book is a wonderful blueprint for a stage of life most of us ignore. It provides genuine hope that the active and restless among us do not need to fear retirement.
It demystifies the process of planning an active and enriched retirement life as a pragmatic and witty guide to living life and spending money (without guilt) and harnessing the computer as an extension of your life.
Offers sound, practical advice for baby-boomers.

Book Review.......2000-04-23
I liked this book because it had more and better examples than the competition such as Lambers Review Course. It will not repeat practice excersices. It has pointers and tips on how to build knowledge in a logical and reinforcing way. The first time I took the exam I paid $1000 for a Lambers Review and I did not pass any part of the test. The second time, using Wileys Review books ( $129.99 approx.)I passed two parts.

Customer Reviews:
Very Complete. Good Book........2003-02-07
Thanks to Wiley's CPA review, I passed ARE 85, FARE 84 and Audit 79, first try. (Failed on Business Law 72 but that was more due to lackluster studying than to the quality of the study material!)
The books are very complete albeit somewhat slightly confusing at first. All aspects of the CPA program are covered, and, if you study these books thoroughly (material + multiple choice), you have a very good chance of passing the exam at the first try.
Make sure you understand the structure and the way each book is organized before you dig into it. I found the overall organization of the books to be confusing at first, and the content quality is definitely not constant from one book/one chapter to the other, which is why I would give a 4-star rating instead of a 5.
Also, I would highly recommend the Wiley's CPA Preparation Software. It speeds up your preparation greatly, and is a good way of avoiding the inevitable and endless page-flipping of book study.
Good luck!
Time Management.......2002-10-27
It is very important to have time management will preparing for the CPA exam.
This 4 volumes set is much better than the other 2 volume set although they both contain the same material, this one has it in a more well organized way where the questions follow the outlines, some people might find it not that helpful but it really is.
In general the both sets are easy to use and handle, the advices are very much helpful, and the material is right to the point a thing that really saves your time.
As an advice you have to go through this set at least three times; the first time (2-3 hrs/day): Read then answer the questions try to do so within 3 months (prepare notecards and don't put any marks with the questions); the second time(2-3 hrs/day): Answer then read topics on your mistakes and review your notecards on othr subjects within 2 months; the third time (5-7 hrs/day): complete a whole module daily (order is not important but might be good) you have to pass all modules 90% at least. One last time is a 4-days approach where you go through a whole section every day.
Anyone using this volume set pass the exam?.......2002-09-29
Did anyone using these books from "Wiley" pass the CPA test? If so, how good are they in preparing you for the exam? There are very few reviews here and its hard to tell if these books are any good.
Excellent test questions, average module outlines........2002-08-14
I find the test questions and explainations after each module are authentic and very helpful in understanding the concepts. However the module outlines are not so well written. I wonder if other buyers have same feeling.
Tremendous Help.......2002-06-05
Used the Delaney books along with a review course. Superior additional material for what was not covered in the review. No surprises when I sat the CPA exam. Pasted first time.

Book Description
He was one of the most intriguing characters of the Civil War era. As famous for his courage as for his ornate uniforms and flamboyant style, he won intrepid victories on the peninsula of Virginia and successfully defended Texas during the long war's waning days. Now, in the first full-length biography of Major General John Bankhead Magruder, acclaimed historian Paul D. Casdorph has created a brilliant portrait of the Confederate general dubbed "Prince John." Graduating from West Point in 1830, Magruder embarked upon three action-packed decades of service in the U.S. Army, taking him from Florida during the Seminole wars to the frontiers of Maine, New York, and Texas. By the spring of 1861, Prince John Magruder had risen to the estimable position of commander of the Washington garrison. Although he knew Abraham Lincoln and several cabinet members personally, when secession and war became imminent, Magruder resigned his duties as the president's bodyguard to race home to Virginia to answer the Confederate call to arms. In the opening engagements of the Civil War, Prince John's initiative and audacity earned him both admiration and acclaim. His often outrageous behavior, spurred by heavy drinking, also brought notoriety. Magruder's larger-than-life style was in sharp contrast to the rigid standards demanded by the Confederate leadership, and Prince John was transferred to the district of Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. Once out from under the eyes of his stern taskmasters in Virginia, the eccentric - yet unquestionably courageous - officer rallied his command. His heroic defense of the Texas coast culminated in a great victory at the Battle of Galveston on New Year's Day, 1863. When the war ended, he headed for Mexico, and yet another great adventure. Serving in the government of Emperor Maximilian, Magruder, once more, added his own unique flourish to a historic upheaval. With enemy forces closing in, he attempted to arrange an escape plot for the doomed ruler.
Customer Reviews:
Prince John Is Given His Due.......2004-07-29
You certainly don't need to read this--his role in the war being minor enough to be mentioned offhand in great works like Shelby Foote's The Civil War--but you should. Magruder was a truely unique individual, and has long deserved a spot on history's shelf all his own. From his days at West Point and his subsequent service in the Mexican war, to his time on the penninsula, where his masterful mind tricks kept the Union at bay, and his banishment to Texas, which would be spared the horrors of Total War thanks to him and Kirby Smith, Magruder would earn a unique place in the grand of history, not only of Texas, but of the United States.
The book itself is a short read, written in a clear, concise style--with plenty of maps (useful when covering the attack on Galveston). Paul Casdorph doesn't judge the man for his flaws, nor does he build him into something he's not; no, his retelling of Magruder's life is unbiased and, refreshingly, non-political.
