Book Description
Now for the first time in one captivating volume, here are the first three mysteries featuring J. A. Jance's most popular and enduring character, Seattle homicide detective Jonas Piedmont Beaumont. It's a trio of tales steeped in the atmosphere of the Pacific Northwest that is sure to remind everyone that Jance is a master of modern suspense fiction.
In
Until Proven Guilty Beaumont finds himself investigating the murder of a five-year-old girl. But his own obsessions and demons could prove dangerous companions in a murky world of blind faith and religious fanaticism as he discovers that he himself is the target of a twisted passion ... and a love that can kill. In
Injustice for All Beaumont's well-earned vacation becomes a waking nightmare as he's forced to comfort a beautiful blonde after she discovers a dead body on a Washington beach. Suddenly a lethal brew of lust, madness, and politics threatens to drag the dedicated Seattle cop into the path of a killer whose dark hunger is rapidly becoming an obsession. And in
Trial by Fury a naked, dead body is found lying in a Dumpster. What's most shocking is the manner in which the man died -- he was lynched. The victim, a high school coach, has left behind a very pregnant wife with a very dangerous secret. And a sixth sense developed over twenty years on the job tells Beaumont that this investigation is going to the lethal extremes of passion, lies, and hatred.

terrific way to meet a strong long running police procedural.......2005-03-01
"Until Proven Guilty". The victim was no more than five years old; the weapon a Holly Hobbie gown used to strangulate Angela "Angel" Barstogi. Seattle Homicide Detective J.P. Beaumont may have fifteen years of murder cases under his belt, but whenever a kid is involved it is tough. He and his partner newcomer Ron Peters concentrate on the mother Suzanne and the cult leader Pastor Michael Brodie of the Faith Tabernacle. However, as he struggles to understand how Michael has such control over the "sisters", Beau, as J.P. is called, is sidetracked when he meets and falls in love with Anne Corley. Though Beau. does not come out as professional as he does in later tales because he spends the middle of the novel sniffing after Anne rather than the case, the partnering between he and Ron cleverly start to form, storm, norm, and perform.
"Injustice for All". Beau is on vacation at Rosario resort when he heard the scream that sounded like a bad teen slasher flick. Ginger Watkins was sobbing while Sig Larson of the parole board attending a seminar lies dead on the beach. Though a hundred plus miles from his jurisdiction, Beau takes charge of the crime scene only to learn that the husband of his witness is Darrell Watkins, running for lieutenant governor and that the victim's wife accuses said witness of an affair with her now dead spouse. The vacation shot to hell even though Beau is attracted to his star witness. In an early appearance, Beau conducts an intriguing investigation that is somewhat sidetracked by his attraction to Ginger, but he show more of the depth of caring that highlights his later tales as he makes inquiries though outside his jurisdiction.
"Trial by Fury". The corpse of Mercer Island High School basketball coach Darwin Ridley was found in a dumpster; he was executed state-style. Beau investigates starting with the pregnant wife Joanna who says her husband never comes home following a defeat as he needs time to recover and the team just lost at the finals. The suspects are shockingly everywhere including the spouse, but who could have done a state style execution seems juts outside Beau's grasp. This is the Beau that readers adore as he is filled with flaws, gets no respect, but keeps working in between drinks to solve the case.
These three 1980s Beaumont tales introduces the audience to Beau, his partner, his journalist enemy, and some of the lovers in his life while providing a grim realistic po0lice procedural. SENTENCED TO DIE is a terrific way to meet one of the better long running police procedurals.

It Just Gets Better.......2007-09-11
J.P.Beaumont has buried Anne Corley, but isn't finding being rich as attractive as it's advertised. J.A. Jance fulfills our expectations with Beau's "hard boiled, flawed" character and his partner Ron Peters. A mystery wouldn't be any fun if the good guys didn't win in the end, but a confessional is trite.
One of the best characters in the story is the flamboyant city of Settle, especially for someone who has never been near the west coast and missed seeing "Sleeping in Settle." I personally enjoy the character of Ralph Ames. Maybe because he reminds me of a cousin I had by the same name who was slicker than oil on water.
A vacation gone bad with a beautiful blonde, needing comfort because of the body at her feet keeps you turning pages.
Nash Black, author of "Sins of the Fathers" and "Travelers."
J. P. Beaumont is one of my favorites.......2006-04-30
This is one of Jance's earlier J.P. Beaumont mysteries. It was still a page turner. The story is set in the Seattle area and those readers familiar with the city will appreciate the many references that make this series so enjoyable. The series only gets better.
Any book with JP is a good book........2003-08-04
Just buy it and all the other stories with JP Beaumont.
I love them...all!
Very Good - 3.5 Stars.......2002-11-16
I enjoyed this book all the way through. The characters are great and the situations Beau puts himself into are quite entertaining. All the way up to the last 30 pages I was waffling between a four or five star rating. The ending just didn't work for me. I've never been a fan of the bad guy thinking he's got the upper hand spills his guts to the cop ending. That knocked me back to 3.5 stars.
That said, Judith Jance really has something going on. It was fun riding along with the investigation, meeting the suspects, attending events uninvited to harass politicians. Something that I particularly enjoyed was that the list of suspects was assembled complete with negative perspective and suspicion and then as Beaumont moves through the list, the suspicion dissipates and we meet every day likeable people. Well done.
There were some very funny and creatively developed scenes that went a long way toward establishing me as a fan of J. A. Jance. The word-picture memory trick was hilarious. And the Pasco police chief's office as well as the Mary Kay convention were stand out scenes.
Nothing flashy or funny, but a solid who-dunn-it.......2001-02-27
In an era of wise cracking sluethes, J.P. Beaumont comes off a bit on the serious side. Of course, if I'd killed my spouse and then had my next lover die in a suspicious car accident, I might not have much of sense of humor either.
In this, the second of the Beaumont series, we come to know much more about the personal side of Beau, his partner Peters and his lawyer, Ames. I suspect this book would be tough to enjoy without reading the opening book of the series - Until Proven Guilty - first. So much of this book involves recovery from the events of the first book.
The mystery in this book is solid enough - a mix of electoral and parole board politics and money.
Book Description
This non-fictional book depicts the 4-year journey of the author''s battle with corrupt secret service agents and a criminal organization they contracted to illegally spy on him while claiming they have the right to because they were going to force him into being a prophet from God no matter how many crimes they would have to commit upon him. The author uses the nickname Clyde throughout the book. We follow the action of his crimes verses the feds crimes as they gave him above the law status because no prophet from God commits felony crimes. Clyde therefore manipulates the foolish secret service and criminal organization by chronicling his day-to-day, month-to-month and year-to-year adventures while in pursuit of a civil rights lawsuit for them illegally using the Patriot Act upon American citizens. The corrupt criminals spied upon Clyde and those he came in contact with 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Clyde even threatens President Bush, his father and mother via e-mails to every national news medias and talks show hosts as well as civil rights organizations proving that he could get away with the felony crime. A secret service agent only slapped Clyde on his hands for his threat on the Presidents life and Clyde would go on to commit 100's of other felony crimes in 4 years and get cleared of them all. This book is a must read in order for all Americans to know just how corrupt our republican government actually is as they have no concern for the rights of Americans while fulfilling their racist criminal activities and corruption. This book is also to be made into a film so that the national masses will be aware of government corruption and be able to defend themselves against their criminal activities. Enjoy the read and imagine yourself being placed in Clyde''s circumstances, then ask yourself how would you have handled the situations.
Book Description
Based on 300 hours of interviews with coaches, athletic directors, student-athletes, and NCAA officials, Undue Process examines the NCAA's system of "justice" -- the organization's history and its growth in power over the years, the lack of due process for its accused, its guilty-until-proven-innocent attitude, and its 100 percent conviction rate.
Customer Reviews:
Bruce Pearl is a criminal!.......2007-09-19
Great book! This book really illustrates how heavy handed the NCAA is. The book also shows what a horrible person UT coach Bruce Pearl is. Illinois and LSU really were treated unfairly by the NCAA.
Relatively fair assessment of the NCAA.......2005-07-20
While some of the information in the text is outdated and other information is dubious, the thesis is still solid. As we gather to witness future pro sports stars in action, we should as a society reflect on the price paid for our entertainment. Yaeger asks: is it worth it? Are we in fact supporting the win at all cost attitude while looking the other way at possible injustices in our institutes of higher learning? Is this really what we want to teach our children? If these questions provoke you, perhaps you should read this book.
As they say, Absolute Power corrupts absolutely.......2001-11-13
This book skewers they NCAA in as ruthless a manner as the NCAA treated student athletes and coaches. From swimmers banned from competeing simply because they took of time from school to compete in the Olympics to kangaroo courts where the rules of evidence do not apply, the NCAA meted out out their own particular brand of injustice.

This is a true story of Jerry Eller's credit being confused with a criminal in 1997. What began as a simple human error evolved into a nightmare that no American citizen should have to experience. This book names the lawyers, politicians, corporations and military personnel who ignored, neglected and contributed to Jerry's demise. Because local, national and prominent media figures refused to expose the author's plight, he wrote this book that should be read by all Americans.

King of Unsolicited Emails.......2006-11-29
This guy keeps spamming me and is now promising to donate 6 million dollars to Katrina victims if half a million people buy his book. I would happily double that if everyone buys my book...but then again, I could easily afford to because I would pocket 12 million for myself. What a generous guy.
THIS IS A COMPELLING TRUE STORY--A MUST READ!!!.......2006-08-04
I am not one to read books but was compelled to read this particular true story about the plight of Gerald Eller. It is written in a style that combines seriousness while at the same time the author is able to throw in some humor--it's a "real" story that makes you feel as if you know him and are there experiencing everything with him. I found it to be such an amazing story that I finished it in only 3 days!!! Have you ever gotten a phone call from a creditor checking to see if you made a particular charge? Do you remember the feeling of shock you felt when it was revealed that YOU were not the person placing that charge??? Well, in some cases the problem is resolved quickly and promptly Unfortunately, Gerald's story (one more complicated than charge card fraud) is one that can happen to anyone and it's unfortunate that his identity was confused with another person's criminal alias (Jerry Willard's) in 1997 and after all these years is still having a detrimental effect on many aspects of his life including being denied various jobs and the drama he endured when he re-enlisted in the Military after 911. It's obvious that a previous reviewer going by the name of "Mark Twain" has been doing too much partying with Elvis and hasn't had time to actually read "Liberty For None And Injustice For All". Gerald...I sincerely hope that you do not give up your fight for finding Liberty and Justice for All!!! The last chapter of the book is titled "The End?"....will there be a sequel to this compelling story? By reading this book I could tell that Gerald definitely has persistence and determination and I certainly hope he doesn't give up his fight for finding the justice that he deserves.
Haven't we met?.......2006-07-28
Trouble seems to follow this guy. Someone is "always after him"...; if I want to hear from a person with these problems I will go to the local bar.
Review by David Faulkner, Critic.......2006-07-22
Anyone who is concerned about identity theft needs to read this book. Jerry Eller does a great job taking you through a journey that changed his life. His name got confused with another guy, a simple data entry error. Should be easy to straighten out, right? Not so! Jerry ended up losing jobs, having problems with his military record, and is still trying to get it resolved today. Years later!
Well written in an entertaining style. Makes you want to read more just to see what's going to happen next to this poor guy. He gets no help from the people that are supposed to be in place to help with this kind of thing. Jerry is not afraid to name names in the book either.
Overall I liked the book and would recommend it. Just pray this never happens to you! David Faulkner
Could not put it down. .......2006-06-06
I do not read that often but a friend recommended I read this book. I read it faster then any book. What an amazing story. I could relate to parts of this book. If you have every had any credit issues or legal issues or know anyone who has you should read this book.

The Exploitation Theory of Socialism-Communism is an extract from Volume I, History and Critque of Interest Theories. It is a brilliant brief in defense of interest in any economic system, and a thorough rebuttal of the Marxian structure. It is probably the most interesting, and politically the most momentous, part of Von Bohm-Bawerk analysis. After all, Marxian thought pervades the world. Even in the United States, the exploitation theory has swayed public opinion and permeated both political parties. It has given rise to a "New Deal" in social and economic matters and a powerful labor union movement. The notion of labor exploitation by businessmen and corporations continues to determine basic economic policies on all levels of government, from labor legislation to Social Security and income taxation. Von Bohm-Bawerk rejoinder provides the only logical defense from the onslaught by the exploitation doctrine, which in the end breeds political and social radicalism. Many see the results of Marxian imperfections, but few people actually know the reasons for failure. The Exploitation Theory supplies the answers. Von Bohm-Bawerk's most controversial analysis.
Customer Reviews:
Sadly, still relevant today.......2005-02-06
It is extremely unfortunate that the labor theory of value and the exploitation theory are still prevalent today, over 110 years after _Value and Interest_ first appeared--this in spite of the "rivers of blood and oceans of tears" spilled in the name of socialism and communism.
Given that, it doesn't really mean much for me to assert that Eugen von Boehm-Bawerk was clearly a genius, and that his book is a well-written and devastating critique of the idea that capitalists exploit labor to extract unearned income. Obviously--and tragically--the arguments he presents weren't compelling enough to have made any appreciable impact on history.
Nonetheless, I think this book deserves comment. One of the things that I like the most about it is the obvious care von Boehm-Bawerk takes to avoid simply attacking straw men. On page 14 he writes:
"I am looking at the exploitation theory, I think, with 'it's best foot forward.' I am trying to adhere to a policy which Knies [a contemporary of von Boehm-Bawerk] put so well when he said, 'He who would be victorious on the field of scientific research, must allow his adversary to advance in all the panopoly of his armor and in the fullness of his strength.'"
If I may say so, I think he accomplishes this quite well. In fact, by the time he has finished his elucidation of the theory, he almost has ME convinced of it!
Immediately thereafter, however, he begins a relentless and unflinching assault, attacking exploitation theory from multiple angles and not letting up until he is certain that it is a lifeless carcass. All the while, this attack is accomplished with an enjoyable and engaging--and almost informal--writing style, such that, after a few pages, it almost feels like he's your pal, sharing his thoughts with you personally. I get the feeling that Eugen must have been a very amiable person with a healthy sense of humor (and that's in addition to being an intellectual giant).
The actual chapter extract from _Value and Interest_ ends about 2/3rds of the way through this book. The final third consists of a publisher's postscript, as well as a number of shorter essays by von Boehm-Bawerk, Ludwig von Mises (his most famous student), and the European scholar Erik von Kuehnelt-Leddihn.
If only this book could be made required reading for all Marxists!

Book Description
In 1957 Stephen Smale startled the mathematical world by showing that, in a theoretical sense, it is possible to turn a sphere inside out. A few years later, from the beaches of Rio, he introduced the horseshoe map, demonstrating that simple functions could have chaotic dynamics. His next stunning mathematical accomplishment was to solve the higher-dimensional Poincaré conjecture, thus demonstrating that higher dimensions are simpler than the more familiar three. In 1966 in Moscow, he was awarded the Fields Medal, the most prestigious prize in mathematics.
Smale's vision and influence extended beyond mathematics into two vastly different realms. In 1965 in Berkeley, he initiated a program with Jerry Rubin of civil disobedience directed at ending the Vietnam War. And as a mineral collector, he accumulated a museum-quality collection that ranks among the finest in the world. Despite these diverse accomplishments, Smale's name is virtually unknown outside mathematics and mineral collecting. One of the objectives of this book is to bring his life and work to the attention of a larger community.
There are few good biographies of mathematicians. This makes sense when considering that to place their lives in perspective requires some appreciation of their theorems. Biographical writers are not usually trained in mathematics, and mathematicians do not usually write biographies. Though the author, Steve Batterson, is primarily a mathematician, he has long been intrigued by the notion of working on a biography of Smale. In this book, Batterson records and makes known the life and accomplishments of this great mathematician and significant figure in intellectual history.
Customer Reviews:
A marvelous book.......2004-12-06
This book not only provides a useful description of some of the theory at a level technical enough to be satisfying, but also gives a fascinating view into the life and thinking of a Field's Medal winner (1966). Who would have guessed that the future Field's Medal Winner received a C in Calculus II and Physics and that he had a B- average Jr. year at the University of Michigan? And perhaps particularly heartening to those who have been through the graduate school experience, that he was less favored than Munkries and received an ultimatum from the chairman to improve (and that in graduate school, according to Raul Bott, Smale sat in the back and it wasn't clear he was always paying attention). But, of course, Smale more than redeems himself resulting in a storied career and a reputation that surpasses the boundaries of his specialties. This is a marvelous book.
Book Description
Fibromyalgia: Up Close & Personal is packed with 43 chapters of "inside" medical information and "hands-on" practical advice for everyday living. Dr. Mark J. Pellegrino brings readers up-to-date with the newest drug and physical treatments for fibromyalgia. He also presents the latest thinking on diet and exercise to help people with this condition lead a full life.
Recognized by fibromyalgia sufferers for understanding what they are going through, Dr. Pellegrino is a welcoming and encouraging presence for everyone with this condition¯and this quality comes through very clearly in his writing. It's as if each person reading his book is having a private consultation about their shared disease.
In Up Close & Personal Dr. Pellegrino has enlisted two leading attorneys to bring readers much needed insight into disability and personal injury issues. Also, he asked a knowledgeable physician to contribute a chapter on common pain problems.
Customer Reviews:
So helpful everyday.......2006-06-08
I diagnosed myself with fibromyalgia after reading several articles about the condition and ordering books from Amazon. I found this one especially easy to read and so helpful and was fortunate to be able to schedule an appointment with Dr. Pellegrino after my doctor insisted I needed a specialist's diagnosis. I found him to be an amazing person with a wonderful sense of humor and the kind of doctor you wish all patients could find. I refer to this book almost on a daily basis when a new symptom arises or I just need to realize I'm not alone or I need a lift.
The newest from Dr. Pellegrino shines..........2006-04-27
To say that Dr. Mark Pellegrino has done it again is quite the understatement. At first glance, you may be a bit overwhelmed but don't let the size of Up Close and Personal intimidate you. While it's not a weekend read-I tried that for my review - the 400 plus pages are worth their weight in gold even if you risk a fibro-flare carrying it home from the bookstore! It's a reference book that mixes a blend of fibromyalgia history, diagnosis, therapy, research and legalese with a twist of Dr. Pellegrino's unique sense of humor. Dr. Pellegrino puts it best in his own words, "My approach has been to help all patients deal with their symptoms, first by helping them understand fibromyalgia, and second to encourage them to use successful strategies to become a fibromyalgia survivor". Author of several other fibromyalgia books and a physician with a clinical practice experience of more than 15,000 patients, he's more than qualified to share his opinion.
Still, you may be asking why you would need another fibromyalgia book. After all, is there really anything new to write about? For the newly diagnosed, this book is an easy to understand reference. For the seasoned, it's updated to include the latest in fibromyalgia research including chiari malformation, nutrition and the legal aspects of post-traumatic fibromyalgia, updates gleaned in the three years since his last book, Inside Fibromyalgia. While 400 pages may seem daunting, the book is divided into six sections, with 6-8 chapters in each section, which helps the reader break down and absorb the well-presented information. In addition, exclamation points on certain pages draw your attention to helpful bite-sized facts. For those wanting more, at the end of each chapter is a resource list "If You Want to Know More" that satisfies their appetite. Illustrations help the reader get a visual focus on what is being explained verbally and the only stick figures you'll find are the ones getting tastefully into "comfortable positions" in the chapter on Sex & Intimacy.
Even the title Up Close and Personal, Dr. Pellegrino explains, was chosen because "I see it up close in my patients, and I deal with it on a personal basis every day. I understand fibromyalgia". Throughout the book, he profiles several of these patients in Up Close Patient Snapshot like "The Rodeo Roper's Rotator Woe", as well as himself in Personal Profile. One of my favorite glimpses of Dr. Pellegrino that he shares is how his deafness helped him later in dealing with fibromyalgia. Nobody likes to think they are different. But with his great sense of style, you almost want fibromyalgia so you can be "just like Mark". Not to be left out of the updates are familiar favorites from previous books -- such as FMS Greeting Cards, Famous Last Words Before a Flare (FLAWS) and Fibronyms. Dr. Pellegrino also includes what he calls his "diversionary writings" which lighten up the complex task of explaining fibromyalgia, although he doesn't need much help as he does it so well. Previous topics are expanded -- nutritional approaches (including weight loss!) and post-traumatic fibromyalgia -- and new topics on disability and legal issues are added, written by attorneys who deal specifically with medical-legal issues.
Is there any that Up Close and Personal lacks? I don't think so. Even if Dr. Pellegrino's explanation that "As part of my therapy, I enjoy writing" may be true, it is therapeutic as well for his readers who benefit from this catharsis. His dedication to educating and empowering the reader into becoming a "fibromyalgia victor"--his new slogan-is both a support and a challenge. Dr. Pellegrino claims that "his simple philosophy is treating fibromyalgia is to find whatever works", but it's his personal caring that comes through in each of his books. This one is no exception. Buy the book - it may be the only fibromyalgia book you will need-until he writes his next one!

Dr. Pellegrino does it again! He has provided us with another great book about Fibromyalgia and living with this chronic illness.
"Up Close And Personal" not only encompasses the areas we face in daily life but also gives us the latest education and techniques to improve its quality, thus bringing encouragement and hope many times to the hopeless.
I can go to this one book for a fast answer or study it in detail to make life changes to help me regain control.
We at Fibromyalgia Training Services (FTS) recommend "Up Close & Personal" in our courses to the participants and their support person and we are excited to be able to do so.
This book helps you, help yourself !.......2005-06-27
I think you will find that there is valuable information for all types of fibromyalgia patients in Dr. Pellegrino's latest work, "Fibromyalgia: Up Close and Personal." It is a comprehensive and expanded version of his earlier book, "Inside Fibromyalgia." The update information should be helpful to a range of patients and in particular those that are newly diagnosed. For the newly diagnosed patient, validation of this diagnosis, from a physician that has fibromyalgia himself, is so important.
For the long term patients with more resistant forms of fibromyalgia, like myself, it is comforting to encounter a physician that can state (p. 231)"There are no easy answers." "I try to emphasize that their pain is not their fault or caused by something they are doing wrong." In my interactions with physicans, it is rare that fibromyalgia veteran leaves the doctor's office without being blamed for their condition. I think Dr. Pellegrno shows a perspective rarely considered by most physicians and it is the biggest strength of the book.
I think this book can help you, help yourself.
Fibromyalgia Support Group Leader, Medical Social Worker, FMS sufferer for over 30 years.......2005-06-23
As with all of Dr. Pelligrino's books one knows he knows what he speaks of. Both as a DR. who treats people with this and other allied conditions and as a person with Fibromyalgia. He is up to date with research and writes clearly and informatively. I have and will continue to recomend this book to the many people with FMS I speak to.

Book Description
Newly revised for the 1990s, The Baby Cookbook is the final word on infant nutrition. In addition to hundreds of wonderful recipes, it includes vital new information on vitamin requirements, allergies, childhood obesity, nursing, introducing solids, and balancing meals. It also features all the facts on the health benefits and risks of milk, eggs, salt, fluoride, and complete and incomplete proteins.
The Baby Cookbook also includes the author's personal journal of experiences feeding and raising her own baby. Knight's journal takes some of the fear out of raising a baby by showing parents what to expect (and beware of) in feeding their own infants and toddlers.
And, of course, there are the recipes. All of the more than 250 recipesnearly 100 of them new for this edition -- have been designed to be low in sodium, contain almost no sugar, and generally encourage good eating habits.
Best of all, most of the meals in this book can be shared by the whole family. There's Chicken Fricassee, Seafood Chowder, Cheese Enchiladas, Baked Potatoes with Salmon Sauce, Barbecued Ribs, and much, much more, including Homemade Apple Pie. We are not talking strained peas.
The Baby Cookbook is a complete guide to cooking for your family -- from ovens and stove tops to microwaves and crockpots. Finally, it's possible for working parents to prepare quick and easy meals for their children without sacrificing taste, variety, or nutrition.
Customer Reviews:
I returned this book!.......2002-02-09
I am glad that I received "Mommy Made and Daddy Too" before this book, or I may have actually taken Knight's advice on how to feed an infant. It seems that she introduces foods too fast (i'm not a doctor). Something very disturbing is that from 6 mos to 12 mos she writes "each meal should be accompanied by nursing, formula, or milk". I have seen nowhere else that cow's milk is acceptable three times a day instead of formula or nursing. I also didn't like the diary. It wasn't a true diary in that you didn't learn how she introduced foods to her daughter. Instead you saw a meal every now and then and something about how she taught her daughter to sleep in her crib by letting her cry herself to sleep. Not my kind of mothering all around!! I also question whether many toddlers would eat cold avocado soup or shrimp with almonds.
Interesting food.......2001-09-17
The recipes in the book are very interesting and a good change from the bland food usually given to babies. I am Asian and I eat a lot of spicy food. This book has given me a way to introduce my baby to the kind of food we eat at home, like curries for example.
Against medical advice!.......2001-06-04
As a practicing family physician, with a spouse who is a nurse, I was shocked at the advice given in this book. Many of the recommended dietary additions go completely against the accepted standards of the American Academy of Pediatrics. For example, whole milk and cottage cheese are recommended by the authors at a far too early age. I returned it immediately and would not recommend it.
The Baby Cookbook, Tasty and Nutritious Meals for the Whole.......2000-12-31
This book is awful. Just about every recipe requires shopping at a specialty store for ingredients. Also a good portion of the book is taken up with the diary of the author's daughters first 2 years of eating which wasn't very informative. If you are looking for simple, typical supermarket ingredient recipes look someplace else!
A cookbook I keep out all the time!.......2000-11-11
I found this book 8 years ago when my first baby was just getting ready to try eating. I checked out a dozen likely-looking books from the library. The rest went back, but this was renewed until I bought my own copy. I devoured this book! The nutrition information was very helpful for me in general, the suggested order for introducing foods was something I practically memorized, and a great help especially with my baby who turned out to be allergy-prone. The diary was a nice break from all of the information, more of an anecdotal resource. It also helped to give me an idea where the author was coming from and how to put foods I wasn't used to into an everyday setting. The recipes are astounding - simple to make, wonderfully healthy, tasty for the whole family, and there's a little bit of everything in there. I've tried new foods from these recipes and been encouraged to re-do some of my own recipes with a more healthful eye. I've given away several copies and bought my most recent when my latest son arrived. He's 2 now and I still pull this book down for ideas 3 or 4 times a month. I can't imagine feeding a baby without this book - it's the best I've read! I cannot recommend The Baby Cookbook highly enough!
