A Must Have for any Worldbuilding DM.......2006-07-16
Need a monster that no one has ever heard of?
Need a creepy crawly that comes at you from the far edges of imagination-and makes every bit of sense when it does?
This is no rehashed bestiary. Rather, the bright minds at Sword and Sorcery Studios take the time to design entirely new beasts, monsters and creatures, then their in depth descriptions breathe life into their design.
Do I like them all? Will I use them all? No.
But they all dazzle with creativity, and reward my investment of time. They all seem to suggest a special encounter of their own.
Perhaps one day, I will find a place in my world for each one. Until then, any time I need a fresh, vibrant creature like the bloodmare or the sentry crow, I know where to look.
If you can do this well, you should be selling your work.
My favorite "Monster Manual".......2006-06-01
This collection does not replace my regular monster manual, but is the first thing I reach for when I need to throw something interesting at my players. I do that because, most of my players and I have been gamers for over a decade, playing 3rd ed. the first weekend we were able to get a set of books, learning the rules as we played. Hence, we are so used to the creatures in the Monster Manual that we have ways of fighting them without thinking about it. Out of game knowledge becomes in game knowledge without anyone barking orders, everyone just knows what to do.
The creature collection provides the diversity a new diversity of beings to take on that offer their own challenges.
My only complaint is that the challenge ratings for the creatures come across as a point of two lower than they should be, especially when you start reaching challenge ratings above 5.
Nice addition to your D&D universe.......2002-08-01
One of Sword and Sorcery Studios' first publications, and what an attractive and useful tome it is. This hardcover publication features over 200 creatures, and I have already used a couple in my new third edition D&D campaign.
The Creature Collection is similar to the Monster Manual, giving all the stats you need for game play. All the creatures have well written descriptions, detailing their natural habitat and special abilities. Very impressive interior art. The artists include Jeff Holt, Steve Ellis, Guy Davis, Jeff Rebner and others. The authors Geoff Grabowski and Stephan and Stewart Wieck -- among others.
All in all, Creature Collection with many fascinating monsters is a nice book to add to your D&D collection.
A Handy Addition.......2002-05-13
I have so far found this to be a useful and easy to use reference, although it is not presented quite as nicely as the Monster Manual. The black and white illustrations just don't quite bite the imagination like the full colour of the MM.
A good start.......2001-06-29
"Creature Collection" is a good place to start when introducing people to the Scarred Lands campaign setting. I very much liked the details and bits of history that were given in each entry. Unfortunately this book does suffer from two flaws. Many of the illustrations in the book were just plain bad; they were just poorly done. The other thing I did not like about this book was the fact that many of the creatures were ludicrous and not really useful outside of the campaign setting without a lot of changes. If you were going to be campaigning in the Scarred Lands, I would recommend getting this book; otherwise you can safely skip over this item without really missing anything.

Do You Have One of Those Groups?.......2007-08-07
Once of those groups who have been playing for years, and they know every single monster and all their stats from all the Monster Manual books? Are you a DM who is sick of every time you start to describe a Cockatrice they already know what you are talking about before your sentence is finished? If so, you are like me, and this book plus the others from Sword & Sorcerery did the trick. Finally some monsters no one had heard of! This book has a great selection of all kinds of things, perfect for any campaign. My only complaint is that its not in color.

Shipped immediately. Received in excellent condition. Very Satisfied. Would do and will do business with in the future.
Excellent sourcebook.......2002-06-03
I love Sword & Sorcery Studios. I've loved 'em since they came out with the Creature Collection 1, before the official Monster Manual came out. They're a high quality publisher, backed by one of the biggest companies in the biz, White Wolf, and it shows. This product is of great quality, much better than the first Creature Collection, which was admittedly mediocre in several departments. There are a huge range of monsters and other assorted things tailored for the Scarred Lands setting, but most if not all of them can be dropped into any setting with little if any change.
Also, you get a wide range of different sorts of monsters, because the book was not just written by a few individuals. Rather, they had open writer calls, so anyone could send in a permission form and their own monsters to be included in the book, so you get the cream of the crop from the collective minds of the entire D&D community.
Dark Monsters.......2002-04-19
This is probably my favorite monster book for D&D so far. The monsters are dark, scary, and threatening to all player characters. They are interesting to read about and good to throw at players and surprise them if they are expecting standard monster manual type creatures. A pretty good investment compared to a lot of other stuff out there :)
Good, but not the Monster Manual.......2001-12-05
This book is good. Really good. It shows what the Open Gaming License can do.
The monsters in this book are for the most part creative and interesting. Swords and Sorcery Studios obviously put some thought into a lot of the monsters. True, there are monsters in the book that lack the pizazz that you would want in a campaign of heroism that Dungeons and Dragons is suited to. Yet with 300 monsters or so, it would be irrational to expect them all to be perfect.
I have to complaints with the book, each of which cost the Creature Collection II a star.
My first gripe is a personal one, but I think it's significant. The CC2 is in black and white. While this is usually issue, I feel that in role-playing, hardcover books should come in color. You may disagree, and if you're happy with black and white, then consider this book a four star supplement.
Gripe two is more significant. Whoever came up with the challenge ratings (CR) for the monsters has (...) never played the D20 system (...). They are way off. There are monsters in there with CRs of 5 who I would pit my not-so-buff group of 1st level PCs against without any fear for their lives. On the other hand, there are monsters who have Crs way lower than they deserve. Example: The "Time Killer" has a CR of one, yet can use a touch attack to send players ahead in time, thus seperating the group, and it's touch attack also ages players 1d10 years. It also has a sizable number of hit points. I would have reservations pitting 4th level PCs against this monster.
Two notes that are neither pros nor cons: The book is a bit campaign specific (for the SSS campaign "Scarred Lands"), but with minimal work the DM can change the monsters to any campaign. Also, this book is very dark. Lots of undead and grisly aberrations. You could call them demons or devils and have all of the Planes fleshed out with evil. If you want some scary monsters, here they are.
Overall, good, but not the MM.

Product Description
In his new book, The Firstborn of God: The Birth of Mary's Son, Jesus, Luke 2:1?21. LaVerdiere presents a liturgical analysis of the Lukan birth narrative, thus "rediscovering" the story of Christmas for an adult audience. It unveils the mystery of the Passion, death, and Resurrection as key to understanding the Incarnation, the birth of Jesus Christ. We tend to experience the Gospel accounts of Jesus' birth separate from his death and Resurrection. However, as LaVerdiere demonstrates, we not only celebrate Jesus' birth at Christmas, but his entire life. By meditating on Christ's birth, we recognize that "the Passion and Resurrection bring out the full meaning of Jesus' birth." This discovery connects us to the rich tradition found in the Gospel stories. In The Firstborn of God: The Birth of Mary's Son, Jesus, Luke 2:1?21, LaVerdiere relates this message in an accessible yet sophisticated manner and once again illustrates the significance of the Gospels in shaping our theology and our spiritual lives.

Book Description
Anxiety is not always psychological but rather a disease that can now be controlled. The symptoms are devastating: sudden unprovoked attacks of anxiety-accompanied by skipping and racing of the heart, shortness of breath, lightheadedness, dizzy spells. Even worse is the fear that you are losing your mind. But here's the good news. The more unexpected and unprovoked the attacks or the symptoms, the more likely that the victim is suffering from a biologically beset disease. What's more, medical science can now overcome this disease in virtually all cases through a combination of drugs and behavior therapy. Dr. David V. Sheenan, formerly of the Havard Medical School, is now the Director of Research of the College of Medicine at the University of South Florida in Tampa. He draws upon recent research and his own pioneering breakthroughs in the treatment of anxiety to present in this book: -Quizzes that will help you determine whether your anxiety is caused by normal stress or is the result of a genetically influenced physical disorder. Seven progressive stages of the disease-and the four steps necessary for recovery. Detailed case histories of former anxiety victims who are now leading full and productive lives. Reassurance and guidance to family members and friends who want to help, but don't know how. This book offers new hope to millions of men and women across the country.
Customer Reviews:
Very insightful, helpful book.......2007-07-27
This book was suggested to me by a social worker, and I was somewhat skeptical of it coming from him; but I read it nevertheless.. Let me say, that this book provides insights and methods not often understood by many in the medical field. In saying that, I mean that it is very rare to come across someone that can relate to someone that suffers from Generalized Anxiety Disorder and panic attacks the way that this author does.. A must read if you or someone in your immediate family suffers from one of these problems.
A+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++.......2007-02-12
This book is AMAZING!!! Although some of the chapters are a little (okay, a LOT) outdated, mainly the one about medications...I skipped through it...I would recommend this book to ANYONE struggling with panic attacks or ANYONE struggling with UNDERSTANDING someone with panic attacks!!! If you think someone in your life is nuts for freaking out over something tiny pick up this book it could explain A LOT!!!
Omissions and Narrow Viewpoint.......2004-07-27
This book has some excellent information which can be found in other less biased books. Since the author is a doctor, I'd expect him to have the viewpoint he does. However, unlike other authors on the topic, he is completely negligent in his presentation. He completely overstresses the biological component of anxiety and the necessity of medication, calling the psychological viewpoint outdated.
As both a long-time sufferer of severe anxiety and depression, and a psychology student, I can attest to the fact that anxiety is not caused just by one source of stress in life. His stages of the development of agoraphobia are correct. I lived through it.
However, I also lived through the recovery he describes in the last chapters. And I did it WITHOUT medication. He says recovery is possible without medication, and yet the person will still be vulnerable to relapsing if any major stressors re-appear. The protagonist in the book (there are actual characters-a real 'love' story, undoubtedly used as a technique to draw readers and believers to his simplistic answer). The woman, at the end of the book, tries only ONE medication which magically works for her.
This scenario is highly, highly unrealistic. Most people struggle with trying various medications. Whether this is a function of the disease or not, it is the typical occurrence from what I have both witnessed personally and through research. Additionally, the woman in the book might not just forget to take her medication (as she does in one section and suffers a relapse), but she might also require higher and higher doses in order to keep herself completely biologically armored from any further anxiety attacks.
This book presents a really cute story. Unfortunately, this is rarely the way it happens. He completely neglects the behavioral aspects of anxiety disorders, such as need for control. He also ignores the fact that many people have mixed anxiety-depression, and that depression isn't always a result of the anxiety limiting them, but that it can be a precursor to anxiety.
Also, some names of medications are omitted and incorrect, unless these are publishing errors. For instance, he mentions Alprazolam as a new drug, which it isn't, and also talks about its anti-depressant qualities. Well, Alprazolam is a benzodiazepine. It is NOT an antidepressant. Next, he mentions the trade names of all the benzodiazepines except for Diazepam, which we know as Valium.
While the names of drugs might be innocent omissions, his simplistic presentation of anxiety is NOT without extreme bias and favoritism for medicine. Is there a biological component to anxiety? Of course there is. As long as we are alive, there is a biological component to everything. But this does not mean that medication is REQUIRED to correct it. Anxiety isn't diabetes. It won't kill you if you don't take Prozac. Medication is a temporary relief, not a lifetime solution. The only real solution is learning that anxiety will not kill you. This doctor seems aimed to convince you otherwise.
You don't have to believe me, after all the author is the one with the medical degree. But I know my experience was completely different than what he has presented when it comes to treatment, and since I am human and there are others like me, I would assume I am not alone. I write the above as a warning to those who are new to this field and are looking for basic insight into their anxiety problems. You want to heal biologically? Look at your diet, exercise, vitamins, the basics! Don't go running to the doctor for nothing, wasting months trying medications with side effects more devastating than the anxiety itself.
Excellent book.......2004-06-30
I've had this book for 13 years and never attempted to read it until now. I thought alot of my symptoms were unique to me because I never heard of anyone else having them until I read this book. I like the way the author describes all of the steps anxiety goes through. It has helped me to recognize things I went through before I realized I had a problem with anxiety. I really feel much better about myself and believe that I do have a chance to get over my problems with anxiety.
Excellent introductory book about anxiety.......2001-09-21
An excellent book about panic attacks which approaches the disease from a biological perspective. Sheehan covers the seven progressive stages of the disease, causes, treatment and recovery, using case histories as examples. The book also contains an anxiety scale to help you determine whether the level of your anxiety is excessive.

Great Cookbook.......2007-09-15
Many books claim to give AUTHENTIC recipes with there Colorful Pictures and expensive price tag but most fail to claim. Having lived in South Florida and eating the foods on a regular basis I have to say that this little book is as Authentic as it gets from the ingredients of the black Beans to the secret ingredient in (Bistec Empanizado)Cracker Meal; which I could never figure out until reading this book,. A great book which I give five stars. If only they publish a greek cooking book as authentic as this one.

Excellent & Easy Cuban Food!.......2006-09-30
Hi there,
I am half Cuban and was raised on the delicious cooking of my Cuban grandmother. The recipes in this book remind me of her cooking. They are easy to follow and tasty. I'm only an average cook with not much time and this was a good book to have. I once made six pounds of the black bean recipe for a family dinner and people where scraping the bottom of the pot for more! The picadillo is fast and yummy. As is the beef stew. Buy it and Enjoy!
Great book - and I'm Cuban-American!.......2004-04-16
Raised with typical Cuban dishes (both of my parents immigrated from Cuba to the US), I searched for a good, concise Cuban cookbook and found it! This it it! Sure, there aren't any fancy pictures but there are also no fancy ingredients or obscure dishes. The list of recipes covers all the basic dishes (I read the list to my mother and she agrees - it's all in there) and the recipes are so simple and easy (almost all are only a paragraph long).
I've tried other Cuban recipe books and I still *always* come back to this one for dishes that turn out as close to Mom's as possible. Maybe I'll just toss the other books out... all I need is this one!
