This collection of moving black-and-white photographs of recipients of the Medal of Honor shows not the glory of war, but the underlying spirit and humanity of true heroism. Forty-eight portraits are combined with comments, observations, and statements from the recipients of America's highest military honor. This compilation of words and pictures of men who served in the U.S. Navy, Air Force, Army, and Marine Corps is both humbling and poignant. Their actions and lives vary as much as the conflicts (World War II, Korea, and Vietnam) and include a conscientious objector who never wielded a weapon and a man known as the "Last Eagle," as he was the last World War II pilot to retire. Each recipient's full official citation is included in the appendix.

There are a couple of good books about CMH winners. The thing I liked about this one was the photo's. All the winners in this book survived, and we get to see the man, as well read about his actions.

Mr. Casalini's book is incredible -- I found myself tearing up at some of the descriptions and pictures. These men are incredibly brave, but at the same time, none seemed to be anything but the guy next door. The wonderfulness of ordinary was truly captured and championed in this amazing book.

While attempting with words to enter into the souls of the Congressional Medal of Honor recipients, Tim Wallis' commentary ebbs on the ordinary heroes, who are protectors of the Medal of Honor. The tremendous impact of the words that are spoken is second only to the full page photographs of the father/husband/patriot's in all their splendor. The photographs are not of men in full dress with the Medal around their neck, as you would think, but of them on the back porch, in the orchard or merely on the couch in prayer. The book shows us all what can be found if only we look a little harder. We too might discover the wonderfulness of ordinary.

Mistaken Attribution.......2006-09-05
Note that this is the NEW Whole Duty of Man and that it is not properly attributed to Richard Allestree. This text is new in the 18th century and is presented as a replacement for the ostensibly outdated Allestree text, originally of 1658 with many later editions. Allestree's dates are 1619-1681. If you are looking for David Hume's "catalogue of vices at the end of" The Whole Duty of Man (this from James Boswell), you will not find it in this text!

LOVE this Cookbook!.......2007-10-07
I got this book for my step-daughter (15) I was worried it would be too "little kid like" but is ISN'T! I had the 1970/80's version, from my childhood and remembered really liking it. It prompted me to buy this one in the hopes I would like the revamped version and it's AWESOME! Fun food to make, super easy. I'm thinking about buying another one and putting it aside for my daughter who is 3. I'd say kids 8 and up would easily be able to follow this with some adult direction.

This is a great cookbook for young girls and older girls alike. It contains lots of yummy recipies. I originally bought it for my granddaughter and then bought one for myself because the recipies are so good. Great job Better Homes & Gardens!

I bought this cookbook with my 7 year old daughter in mind, but my 10, 14 and 16 year old kids love it too! The recipes are easy-to-follow, the artwork is adorable, colorful, and inviting. I have a lot of cookbooks on my shelf, but this one is by far the most popular. It has encouraged the kids to be in the kitchen, following easy-to-read recipes and make some terrific tasting foods. I highly recommend this for kids of all ages, and adults alike!

My daughter received The New Junior Cookbook by Better Homes and Garden as a Christmas Gift. It is very fun and and easy for her to read. The best part is she is cooking us dinner and having a blast while doing it.

There are only 5 recipes that claim to be Junior's in the entire book. They are: Junior's sponge cake crust; Junior's shortbread crust; Junior's cinnamon crumb topping; Junior's signature strawberry sauce and Junior's cheese cake tart. If you don't want to know how to make these recipes find another book. They don't give up the real recipes that you would assume you would get. I am terribly disappointed and do not recommend this book to anyone. You will not learn how to make Junior's cheesecake here.

I pre-ordered this book and was very excited to receive it in the mail today. I quickly flipped to the recipes for my two favorite cheesecakes (the Devil's Food and Lemon Coconut) which I've had many, many times, not only at Juniors in Brooklyn and Grand Central, but also from their website. THESE RECIPES ARE NOT THOSE OF THE REAL CHEESECAKES!!! For example, the real lemon coconut is frosted with buttercream. So why does the book frost this cake with whipped cream?! Just one of many inconsistencies. Shame on you Junior's for touting this book as yours, but keeping the recipes to yourself! Poor form!

I find this book well organized ,with a lot of informations about the community,the town of Buffalo,nice old pictures and very good food,real food for real people.I appreciated expecially the chapter about bread and bakery and some appetizers,anyway all recipes are put down very clearly and it is evident that before writing everything was tested many many times

This book is great for anyone who collects Junior League cookbooks. It has beautiful pictures and little history tidbits about Buffalo. The recipes are diverse and easy to do. I can't live without the "Sherry Chicken for a Crowd" and the "Potatoes Foster" - both great for entertaining!

This cookbook is a five star winner. I have tried many of the recipes and they are all great. I love the artwork and I also enjoy reading about the history of Buffalo. A must have cookbook for all collectors of Junior League Cookbooks.

This, my most treasured cook book, was a gift from my beloved New Orleans mother-in-law in 1972, the year I began law school at Tulane. I know for a fact the Garden District and Uptown Junior Leaguers submitted these recipes from their fantastic family cooks and from the "back room" at Antoines. With these can't- fail recipes, you can prepare incomparably authentic and delicious New Orleans cuisine. I live in California now, and last night I did the Plantation Cookbook's extraordinary crayfish etouffe' with whole, frozen crayfish I found at Ikea of all places!

I can only echo the previous reviews! This cookbook was given to me as a gift 30 years ago when I was living in New Orleans. It is tattered and torn and my most cherished cookbook. Everything is wonderful. I have just ordered two copies for friends.

This cookbook has lived in my kitchen for over 12 years and has survived several moves and a flood. It provides excellent recipes for classic New Orleans and South Louisiana cuisine. The directions are easy to follow and the variety of recipes will never leave you without choices of what to have for dinner - be it a family affair or a formal occassion. Also, you can find the ingrediants for most of the recipes regardless of where you live. I've made my favorite dishes while living in four different states. (don't miss the recipe for banana-nut bread)
This cookbook provides the foundation for more recent cookbooks that feature New Orleans style cuisine. And as previously noted, it also gives you a wonderful description of many famous Louisiana plantations and New Orleans homes.
