Book Description

Members of the Royal Canadian Air Force in World War Two were issued log books in which to record their experiences, during training, combat, and sometimes their experiences, during training, combat, and sometimes their personal thoughts. In the words of Right Reverend REF Berry, a World War Two mid-upper gunner with the RCAF flying Lancaster bombers out of Lincolnshire, England:

"These are men whose wartime contributions are of heroic proportions. Their log entries tell of real life experience of young Canadian men and their allies." (Flight Into Yesterday, 1999, ii)

Many of these diaries survived the ensuing decades and it is through the gracious input of their owners that FLIGHT INTO YESTERDAY was created. I've collected, re-written, printed and bound these experiences into book form for the members and friends of the Kelowna Wartime Aircrew Club. The 500 pages of this book provide a unique insight into the hearts of men and women in war. FLIGHT INTO YESTERDAY is a legacy.

Book Description

This publication deals with an anonymous Arabic paraphrase of Aristotle's De Anima. The paraphrase, which was translated into Persian in the thirteenth century, is to be considered as the earliest testimony of Arabo-Islamic interest in Aristotelian psychology. The first part of the book is concerned with the Arabic and Persian manuscripts and testimonies, the Greek sources of Late Antiquity, and the question of the date and identity of the author. The second part includes a critical edition with a German translation followed by a philological and philosophical commentary in the fourth part. The volume is of special interest for the historian of late antique, post-Alexandrian (Byzantine), and early Islamic philosophy as well as for Graeco-Arabic lexicography.

A wonderful explaintion of the philosophy of Aristotle.......2006-01-28

After reading this book I would highly recommend it. Its very well written and easy for a 'lay' person to understand without having much or any formal philisophical training. Under the guidance of Professor Veatch - surely on of the most lucid and learned mentors in ancient philosophy - Aristotle stands forth again as the philosopher who, above all, speaks simply and directly to the common sense of all mankind. Today, Professor Veatch believes, the time may be ripe for a belated recognition that Aristotle is "a truly lived option in philosophy".

Henry Veatch is Professor of Philosophy and Chairman of the Department of Philosophy at Georgetown University.

I learned about this book by reading James Schall's "Another Sort of Learning" which is another book I would recommend looking at as well.

Since being diagnosed with Hepatitis C, I've read Dr. Palmer's book, & continue to review it as questions come up. It is irreplaceable as a resource book.

A Review on Dr. Palmer's Guide to Hepatitis & Liver Diesease.......2005-10-06

I have read several books on liver disease but none of them are as good as this one. I have read the first edition a few years ago and it was very helpful since I have Hepatitis B and cirrhosis. It helped me a lot in understanding the treatment such as liver biopsy, interferon and Lamivudine. It probably helped me in staying alive and healthy since I followed her advice on diet, exercise and taking drugs and supplements. I learned that some herbs, supplements and drugs such as iron, vitamin A and aspirin that I took previouslly could be harmful. I also restricted my salt content and fat in my food. The second edition is even better since it is even more update on the supplements and drugs. The information on Glucosamine is particularly welcome since it helped a lot in my osteoarthritis. I highly recommend this book to anyone with Hepatitis.

how the potentially adverse side effects of therapy can be minimized giving a much improved quality of life. A good number of pages are dedicated to nutrition, herbal remedies, and in extreme cases, liver transplantation
My prediction is that this book will be a bible to liver sufferers and enable them to live healthier and more vital lives .

This book contains a veritable encyclopedia of information concerning the various forms of Hepatitis. The book is written in language that non-medical people can readily understand. The book answered many questions that I had, as well as teaching me to live with chronic Hepatitis with a minimum of life disruption. This book is a real find. I give it five stars. This book is a must for any person suffering from Hepatitis in any of its forms. It should be the first book a person includes in any library or repository of information on Hepatitis.

Many of the recipes are edible enough. Some of them are even tasty. (They're not especially healthful, as a rule, but that's a different critique.)

What's harder to swallow is the mawkish, self-indulgent autobiographical gems stuffed throughout the text. The author believes, I guess, that readers are far more interested in him than in the recipes. Get over yourself, there, Donnie. Lay out the recipes and dump the cloying narrative.

Hello!

I borrowed this book from the library and tried one or 2 recipes, it was so great, I decided to get it off Amazon in the end. Although some of the items are not available in Singapore e.g. butter buds is a little hard to find, there are ready substitutes.

Generally, if you are from Asia, can go a little easier on the sugar and be more proactive on spices to fit asian tastebuds. Beyond that, most recipes are winners. So far those that are confirmed great (I have cooked them at least 4 times) are the turkey gumbo and the brownies.

All the taste without the unneeded fat plus you don't get that odd yicky feeling when you eat sugar substitutes etc.

Out of all the cookbooks i own - which is quite a few - this is by far the most favorite. The recipes are very easy to prepare and taste great. Since i've got the book couple of months ago, i've been using it almost exclusively to try as many recipes as i can, and they've all been phenomenal thus far.

This book and Don Mauer's other book (Guy's Guide to Great Eating) have helped me lose over 70 pounds. As other reviewers have stated, the recipes are both easy and flavorful, but I think the best thing about the recipes in this book is that they are so satisfying that you don't think about the fact that they are low fat as you are eating them. This cookbook is going to be a big part of my weight maintenance plan!

With these recipes, I can prepare foods for me and my family that are low in fat and health conscious. Although these fit well into a weight loss program, my family and guests enjoy great tasting foods without ever realizing they are missing out on calories and fats.
