Book Description
At a time when opinions were fervent and loyalties were divided in East Tennessee, John G. Earnest ultimately sided with the Confederate Army after reconciling for himself the conflicting arguments surrounding the Southern cause in the Civil War. In September 1862, after studying at Emory & Henry College in Virginia, he enlisted at age twenty with the 60th Tennessee Infantry, joining the men who organized the last volunteer units from East Tennessee. This addition to the Voices of the Civil War series tells his story.
All Right Let Them Come is Earnest's diary; it offers rare observations into the life of an East Tennessee Confederate soldier and the events surrounding his involvement in the transfer to the western Confederate front and the siege of Vicksburg. The passages on the fighting at Chickasaw Bayou and at Big Black Bridge near Vicksburg cast light on the military defects of Earnest's unit. The generally poor performance of the East Tennessee Confederate troops has long been assumed to stem from the region's sharply divided loyalties to the Union and Confederacy and from the fact that these soldiers were moved great distances from the homelands they had volunteered to defend. Earnest's narrative suggests that the weaknesses in these troops may also have come from a lack of training and discipline.
Earnest's diary provides an interesting and readable account of day-to-day life of a low-ranking officer. Material on the daily routines of camp life, on the limitations of the transportation system, which hindered the South's war efforts, and on travel across the western Confederacy address the lack of provisions, deficits in the Confederate soldiers' discipline and morale, and the South's difficulties in maintaining a cohesive, powerful fighting force in the Western Theater.

Customer Reviews:
title is misleading, but advice is great.......2007-07-03
The title is unwisely chosen, close to a cheap shot, designed to get the attention of people in pain. This is unfair, and diminishes the total effect of the book, which is well researched and documented for a book for a lay audience. It is very helpful to have all the information on glucosamine and condroitin together, with an exact plan. Very useful is the attention paid to the lack of quality control in choosing nutritional supplements. Dr. Theo provides excellent advice on how to choose wisely, and how to avoid poor or deceptive formulations.
Works for me (so far).......2007-02-15
Three months ago I was as skeptical as John (below). I have OA in both knees and was contemplating knee replacement surgery. I decided to give this guy's recommendations a chance as a last resort, since my meds weren't helping much. I've been on fairly large doses of glucosamine/chondroitin, ASU, SAMe, and Omega 3-6-9 since around last Thanksgiving. My knee pain has reduced by, I would guess, about 75%. I don't want to over-hype this regimen, and I don't have any idea how long the relief will last. But it's real, and it's substantial. Note that you have to allow a couple of months for it to fully kick in. [...]
The above review was originally written on 2/14/07. As of 6/7/07, I've added the supplement MSM, and the "cocktail" continues to work. I'm still off pain meds except for the occasional ibuprofen. The supplements aren't magic, my knees continue to hurt, but I'm still much closer to pain-free than before I began the regimen. And most importantly, I'm still avoiding the surgeon's knife. ~CPW
I have doubts about glucosamine + chondroitin.......2006-04-28
Put it this way, I have joint pain, and I take glucosamine and chondroitin for the pain. But I have my doubts about them, too, especially with regard to the claim that they "rebuild cartilage" (note: I am not a doctor, and I am just a layperson and reader of average knowledge, who has done some reading on this).
Here is what the Mayo Clinic site states about glucosamine and chondroitin (Mayo has one of the top-5 arthritis departments in the country):
"Many manufacturers market dietary supplements that they claim can rebuild cartilage. But little scientific evidence supports this claim. The most studied of these supplements is glucosamine sulfate.
Glucosamine is a natural compound in your body that helps make your cartilage strong and rigid. Osteoarthritis causes the breakdown of joint cartilage and can affect any joint, including the elbow, ankle, wrist and knee. Although there is insufficient evidence that glucosamine rebuilds cartilage, there is some evidence that a combination of glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate may relieve moderate to severe pain in some people with osteoarthritis of the knee. The mechanism by which it does this isn't clear."
Some doctors state that glucosamine mimics aspirin and Tylenol, i.e. it is a pain reliever, not a rebuilder of joints.
The book is still good in that it shows the current scientific ideas on how to heal and feel better; but let's not let our hopes of a "holistic cure" get in the way of evidence.
Dr. Theo's glucosamine/chondroitin cure works.......2006-02-27
I have been investigating health issues for almost 30 years, and Dr. Theo's book is the best one I have read concerning the solution to arthritis. I am also one of the victims of arthritis because I have literally walked or run for thousands of miles in my lifetime. So, my knees and hips need constant attention, and I can personally confirm that glucosamine and chondroitin supplements work. The doctor is right that different brands vary a lot in quality, and I am glad he listed some good brands in his book. He also tells the exact amount of each supplement that you must take in order to get effective results. Although I did not see the GNC brand mentioned in the book, I have found that the GNC chewable Tri-Flex candy supplements work for me. You'll be glad you bought this very informative book if you have arthritis or know someone who does.
If you have arthritis this book can help.......2005-04-11
The idea is so simple it is amazing no one thought of it sooner.
Your joints are made up of bones and cartilage. When the cartilage wears down you start getting pain and inflamation.
So when people take the basic building blocks that make up the cartilage, either in supplements or their diet, they body is often able to heal the cartilage. Simple.
Glucosamine, Chondroitin and SAMe are the supplements that Dr. Theo recommends. That is essentially "the cure".
Knox gelatin, that you can find in almost every grocery store in the canning aisle, is also a really great cheap alternative. Knox gelatin is basically ground up cartilage. So it contains everything your body needs to re-build the cartilage.
Many people who take one small package a day and increase their water consumption notice significant decreases in the pain they experience from arthritis pain with in weeks.
Another great book to help you increase your health in other areas of your life is The Creator's Manual for Your Body. It teaches how to know for yourself what is going to make you healty. Everyone is different and this book takes that into account. Plus all the raving 5 star reviews point to the fact that it really does make a difference for people.

The word "cure" in the title is a bit misleading, but this book certainly makes a persuasive argument in favor of treating osteoarthritis with two common nutritional supplements--glucosamine and chondroitin sulfates--and following a program emphasizing better nutrition and exercise. The supplements are commonly used in Europe and Asia, where they've been tested in double-blind, placebo-controlled studies (the gold standard for medical research). They haven't been thoroughly tested in the United States, the authors contend, because drug companies can't patent the supplements and thus won't fund the research. The book also contains a chapter detailing a seven-step arthritis-prevention program.

Basic Info that Can be Found on the Net.......2006-06-18
Much of this book is page filler, it advocates Glucosomine and Chondrodin Sulphate as its main "cure" and then talks about eating foods high in antioxidants (which is really old basic info that we can find in plenty of books and websites). It is also very repetative, I remember reading the same subject three times near the beginning (page filler.)
Although the book is helpful, especially for really ignorant newbies who hate the internet, it needs to be thinned out and the common knowledge parts taken out.
The Arthritis Cure : The Medical Miracle.......2001-01-22
I injured my knee around Labor Day and four months later I had minimal results with physical therapy and NSAIDs. My once active life had stopped, every activity I tried, even walking, aggravated my knee. I started on the Glucosomine and Chondrodin Sulphate program along with the vitamin supplements outlined in the book and had great results. After just a few weeks, I am able to hike and workout again. I feel better than I have in months! I know several friends on Glucosomine, but I felt better with the book outlining the dosage and other vitamins to compliment. I have not needed any NSAIDs since I started this therapy. I like that this program has almost no side effects and can help my injury without surgery. Try it for yourself, what do you have to lose but the pain?
Worthwhile and perhaps more.......2000-05-03
This was followed by Maximizing the Arthritis Cure (1998) which I'll also report on here, treating both books as one. My initial reaction was, this is either a public service or a hustle. Written by three different laureled academics and obviously put together by committee, this first book was a big time best seller and demanded a sequel. Most of the diet advice was like something I had read twenty years ago. The exercise program ditto. The use of glucosamine and chondroitin was the real difference. In fact, the purpose of the book could be seen as legitimizing the use of these supplements in the treatment of osteoarthritis. People bought the book in the hope that it would help them with their pain. They also bought the book so that they would be motivated to try glucosamine and chondroitin. Many people understandably would not try the supplements without the seal of approval provided by an authoritative book like this. The question is-and it is the big question-is their program any good, or is it just another feel good pep talk fronting for another bogus approach? I was a little uncertain since the book jacket was red, white and blue, and we all know the quote about patriotism being "the last refuge of a scoundrel."
So I tried glucosamine and chondroitin and stayed fairly close to their overall program. Two years have passed and although I cannot say for certain, it is my belief that the supplements are valuable. At any rate, my arthritic knee is much improved.
In the follow-up book, the authors give information on other treatments.
I have to say that I think they've done a positive service in writing these two books. The information about healing in general and about prevention and about the positive effects of exercise and attitude are worthwhile. The authors may have made megabucks (or maybe they didn't), but I don't feel they ripped anybody off, on the contrary. I am happy to be positive even though I still think "cure" is probably too strong a word for what their program can do, although I only have my own experience to go on. Their reports of the double blind tests that have been conducted are good, but a long way from convincing proof that glucosamine and chrondoitin and exercises can cure osteoarthritis.
The Arthritis Cure.......2000-03-25
After reading this book by Dr. Theodosakis, I recommended it tomy grandmother and 35 year-old girlfriend, both of whom haveosteoarthritis. Not only has it lessened grandma's pain, but also her depression has largely lifted. My friend, who is a fellow registered nurse, was thrilled that she was able to stop taking acetaminophen following her second month of taking glucosamine and chondroitin. She believes the dietary changes she made after reading the book were also helpful toward making her body more supple, like a slinky. I was indeed surprised to find some negative comments written by readers. Perhaps they were victims of the many fraudulent products our there with insufficient quantities of glucosamine and chondroitin in them. I found Dr. Theo's website to be very helpful in learning more about specific good and bad products. I will continue to recommend this book to anyone and everyone who tells me that they suffer from arthritis. There is hope! END
The Arthritis Cure : The Medical Miracle That Can Halt, Reve.......2000-02-24
I found this book an excellent presentation on glucosamine, chondroitin, the various surgical options, advice about exercise and diet (the importance of weight loss, etc). For me it seems to be working as advertised. I have osteoarthritus of the hip and knee and am seeing noticeable improvements. I have a friend that is a physical therapist and she has been using glucosamine/chondroitin and has noticed significant improvements in the use of her ankle and her ability to walk. Certainly glucosamine/chondroitin are not replacements for everthing as diet/weight loss are also extremely important. I recommend this book highly.

Extraordinary Gluten Free Cookbook.......2007-09-06
My sister, her daughter and I have used this cookbook to make some wonder desserts. No one knows or cares that they are gluten free because they taste so GREAT! Recipes are easy to follow. I double recipes and have had no problems. Great buy!
LOVE IT!.......2007-08-09
I admit it... I have a cookbook addiction! And since our family has been gluten free, I have added quite the collection of gluten free cookbooks to my shelves. And I use them ALL! Well, I now have a new favorite for gluten free desserts... CONNIE SARROS' DESSERT COOKBOOK! EVERY recipe I've tried is fantastic! And if you can crave it, Connie has a recipe for it! I can't say enough about it! I highly recommend it to ANYONE who wants to venture into gluten free baking, or just add new options to the dessert menu. But warning: everyone will start asking you to bring the dessert... everytime!
Very tasty recipes........2006-06-20
This book has recipes that are very good and pretty easy to make. One thing that I really appreciated was that they all use the same flour mixture, and the flour actually has nutritional value, as opposed to having 5 different flours throughout the book that you have to make, or just using a mixture of corn starch and potato starch. If you need to cook gluten-free desserts, I would highly recommend this book!
Wonderful!!.......2006-03-15
I really enjoyed the "Glazed Chocolate Fantasy" Cake. The answer to any Chocolate Lovers sweet tooth.
No short-cuts makes for WUNNERFUL desserts!.......2006-01-07
Since my gluten-free regimen began after diagnosis for "intolerance"; I've sought nutritional direction and assistance with finding a new path for cooking. However, baking has never been high on my list of favorites, mostly because my own consumption of wheat flour-based desserts was never enjoyable and their creation just as unsatisfying. In this book, the ingredients, steps, methods and results are all TOP NOTCH. Great attention and just-enough explanation has helped me create very delectable cakes and pies that I would have never bothered attempting before. As with most recipe books, the paperback version is void of helpful photos. However, it has given my family and friends another glance into the challenges of eating gluten-free; it's great for sharing recipes with those who'd cook for those with intolerances/allergies.
