Must Read for True Giants Fans.......2007-03-08
This book tells the history of one of the classiest men in the history of not only the NFL, but all of sports. Even those of you who are not Giants fans could appreciate Wellington's contributions to the NFL after reading this book. It's so much more than just a Giants history lesson (as so many books before it unfortunately are).
Only glaring issue was the score for Superbowl XXI was wrong -- ouch!
Overall this is absolute must read for Giants fans of all ages. "Wellington" reminded me why I live and die with this team.
The Class of the NFL, an intriguing biography of Wellington Mara and the NY Giants.......2007-01-05
This book appeals to the NY Football Giants fan and the die hard NFL fan who wants to learn about the early days of the League. Mr. Mara was a man who put League before team, something not seen these days in the league. Mr. Mara was a man who was there for his players, not only in a professional relationship but as mentor and father figure. Mr. Mara is sorely missed, but we can see his name "The Duke" stamped on today's game ball. To see why, and lots of other great stories, read this book.
Giants year by year.......2006-11-15
The title is a bit deceiving as it's more a year by year history of the Giants than a biography of Wellington Mara. Of course, Mara was intricately involved in the history of the Giants, so there is a lot about him in here. However, most subjects are covered very broadstroke as the Giants have a long history - covering the whole span was a pretty big job in itself. There's also some interesting content in the begining on Mara's father, Tim, the Giants' founder.
Overall, it's not a bad read and recommended for anyone who wants to know about the history of the Giants.
PS There's a handful of proof reading errors. They don't detract from the book, but they are unusual to see.

Asanas collects 708 of those black-and-white photographs, each accompanied by the English name of the pose and the Sanskrit characters, brief commentary, and specific combinations for vinyasa, ashtanga, and Iyengar practice. I've flipped through the book so many times, carried it around so much that I've acutally worn it out. But that is totally ok because now I get to buy a new copy and do the same thing again. For the serious student of yoga Dharma's efforts and this book are a true gift. How do you get into some of the poses? Completely devote yourself to the practice for 30 years, then you can do them-it it not a how to maual, but an incredible historical record. Some of the negative reviews are ridiculous, please give the book to someone who can appreciate it.

I bought this small book when I volunteered at kripalu.
It is very simple. Pictures of 608 asanas of the 900 poses that exist. My method in using it is to hold it in my hand while doing my flow. It works well for me.
Totally Useless Bordering on Obscene.......2007-01-10
The book starts out with how wonderful this Dharma Mittra is (by the editors). Then Dharma Mittra tells you how wonderful he is and barely scratches the surface of a Yoga practice that is compatible with a busy life. The rest of the book is pictures of Dharma Mittra in yoga poses. His gentialia are so prominent in most of the poses it is obscene. I am not a prude after 25 years of nursing but please! When I tried to use the book as examples of what poses should look like all I got was laughter. Even from my supervisor!
There are no explanations of how to get into or out of the poses safely. No suggestions to adapt the poses and no pointing out the nuances of a pose, breathing suggestions, or even a notation of what conditions the poses may help with.
This book doesn't deserve a star at all but rather a parental warning label.

I was suprised to find that there are postures not included in this book. The photographs are clear enough. There is no instruction. I suppose as an adjunct to some other material it is of great value. The one concern I have is about the durablility of the book itself. Since it is rather thick with a lot of pages, it might be worthwhile to purchase the hardcover edition instead.

You can BET I'm gonna make (and eat and G-d help whoever tries to take a portion of it from me!) all of those recipes -- especially that Hostess Twinky Pie!
A great book with irreverent wit, humor, great cuss words, sensitivity in the right places and a Boe-Day-Shuss (hey I'm from the Bronx -- we can't spell Southern words) outlook on life and..... foodies!!

I bought this book after I seen the title and browsed at it and had to buy it, I love the ladies who wrote this, just like being with a friend, hillarious (if I spelled that right!) The recipes are fantastic, like "Pig Candy" its really good!!!!! You cooks know what you are doing when you make a recipe, including licking the spoon, eating half the batter etc. "NO PLAIN, PLENTY GAIN COFFEE CAKE!!, my favorite expression in the recipes is "One running over teaspoon of vanilla" and a recipe for "Actual Apple Cake" plus all their little stories and funny stuff, this is a great gift for the person who cooks and has a sense of humor, and surely will make some of the recipes, No Fat Free recipes are included I believe, or they would never had wrote the book. If you know a person who cooks, and is funny, this is a great funny recipe book

The book is funny at points. I expected more recipes. I listened to the audio version, read by the author herself. She employs liberal use of the callback, so much so that she latches on to a few key phrases and repeats them to the point of browbeating. The recipes are sickening. I could barely stand to listen. If those women actually eat that way, it's no wonder they are all saving for lipsuction. If I heard her say "one runningoverteaspoon of vanilla" one more time, I was gonna find her and punch her in the face. Just say a teaspoon and a half of vanilla! The part about her mother having a stroke makes her seem incredibly selfish and coldhearted. Maybe being dispassionate is just her way of coping.

This book contains fabulous recipes that can be made at home as well without using a Dutch oven. It is filled with ideas that are simple and fast to prepare with easily obtained ingredients. The author uses recipes that have been tried and refined by people whose business it is to entertain and please hungry folks with delicious food. These recipes are a notch above most one-pot recipes I have encountered. I purchased one as a gift for my outdoor-loving friends and ended up ordering one for my home as well.

All the recipes are pretty advanced (and expensive). I'd like to see more easy dishes that don't take 5 hours to prepare and $100 per oven.

I have been collecting and trying dutch oven receipes for some time and found the content of the Outdoor Dutch Oven book very solid. Some receipes are too involved for outdoor trips, but would work just fine in the kitchen. I originally checked the book out of the library, but was so impressed I thought it deserved to be purchased. The comments regarding no instruction on dutch oven skills are valid. You'll want another resource for that.

I was pretty surprised when I got this book with the variety of recipes. There are recipes for everything from beverages to breads to soups to main and side dishes to desserts. Sweet potato drinks? The recipes range from somewhat basic, standard-type to side dishes to the very exotic with a section of recipes from around the world. Some of the recipes use canned sweet potato, which is nice if you are looking to save a little time. This book seems to have enough variety that there is something in here to please everyone!
