Brilliant Blasphemy.......2000-08-10

I first came across this book at a friend's house while peaking on acid. At the time, I believed in God, and was reverent of all this creation business we find ourselves in. This book looks at God and It's creation through a very jaundiced eye, with compelling, horrifying and undeniably adept illustrations and text. It took me years to be able to see God again beyond the film of revulsion and fear this book drew down over my eyes, but my faith is stronger for it. I think Steadman would laugh if he read that last sentence, and I think he should, too--but believe me when I tell you that the first time you pick up this book, you should be solid in your faith, and you should NOT be on LSD! :-)

My 4 year old loves this book. It's very cute and he loves to learn new words so he can color in a star in the back of the book. I am going to order more Fisher Price All-Star Readers.

I do not yet own this book; although, I did glance at it in a Barnes in Noble in Connecticut. I was most impressed with all of the band organizations Buddy was part of that were listed in the back of the book. Undoubtedly, Rich was the World's Greatest Drummer. In my opinion, there consisted of 4 seperate, distinct drumming classes: The Hierarchy including Buddy, high and far above the rest. The second level included Krupa, not near Rich's calibar, but far above other drummer's of his time. The third level consisted of over great Big Band drummer's: Jo Jones, Sid Catlitt, Ray Mckinley, Alvin Stoller and Chick Webb. These were without a question great all-time drummers, who, in my opinion, attempted to emulate Rich's and almost more often that not, Krupa's style. Then, the last and disturbing drumming sounds consisted of people like Max Roach and Art Blakey. Their playing was as confused as the whole Be-Bop movement encompassing such overally recognized musicians like Gillespie, Parker, and Davis.

I cannot convince myself to this point how people can merely appreciate the sounds of early Gillespie and Parker and at the same rate have people like Goodman, Shaw, James, and Rich??

A thorough documentary of this man's life and career........1999-01-12

"Mister, I Am The Band," by Doug Meriwether is a must for serious fans of Buddy Rich or for collectors of Buddy Rich recordings. The book is divided into three sections. The first is a biography of the great jazz drummer. It is written chronologically and in a documentary format. The information is presented factually. It is not written as well as "Traps, The Drum Wonder" by Mel Torme. However, it is a complement to the Torme book. In comparison, where Torme has assembled numerous quotes about Buddy by other drummers, Meriwether has carefully documented quotes about specific situations by associates of Buddy's. Meriwether is careful to list the person being quoted and when/where they are quoting. Where Torme's book seems to focus on the upbeat and positive, Meriwether does not skirt some of the issues such as Buddy's continuing problems with the IRS and his dissatisfaction with record companies. In this writer's opinion, it presents a very honest and factual account of the life of this unique personality. The accounts of his touring and performances leave the reader drained and wondering how could Buddy, particular in his later years, continue to keep up such a grueling schedule and be more on top of things than many of the much younger musicians who worked for him! The second section is a photo album that includes a number of excellent photos that I have not seen published previously. The only criticism regarding the photo section is that it is too short. For the serious Buddy Rich fan or collector, the most valuable section of this book is the complete discography and videography. This secition is well over 150 pages and includes every selection that Buddy played on. Included are the sources, whether it has been released or not, whether it appeared on previous or later releases, all personnel, each tune, and all labels both domestic and international, or whether the recording was private. This is not a book for the casual reader who wants to read a biography with an interesting title. For the true fan of Buddy Rich, the title tells it all and the book is a must. Overall, four stars.

A perfect board book for your tiny big girl!.......2004-11-04

This is a sweet story of a little girl asking her mother if she is big or little. With each question, her mother lovingly answers each of her daughter's questions.The last 2 pages just make this book special to me.... " Yes, Sweet Pea You're like a big present in a little box. A Present for you, Mommy? Of course- just what I always wanted! What wonderful words to say to your daughter, and words that should be said often, if not every day! I know without a doubt, my daughter is a wonderful gift!

Tracy Dockray does a fantastic job illustrating this book. The pages aren't cluttered up, but focus on the little girl and her mother and are done using both watercolor paints and pencils, that just gives the pages a softness.

I remember when my brother was born, my mom started calling me her Tiny Big Girl, even though I was 2, it made me feel big, when I really was little! I am so pleased that this boardbook found it's way into my hands and now heart! And will absolutely be perfect for your tiny big girl who is just wanting to be big!

Many Big Things Come in Little Packages.......2002-11-29

When I read this book, it made me remember when I was just a little kid. All the times I had been too little for things that other bigger kids could do, yet I never forgot all the things that I could do because I was little. Things such as the book said, getting a piggyback ride down the stairs, crawling under my bed, and being able to ride in a stroller everywhere. All the younger years that were so easy and yet went by so fast. This book lets me remember all the good times that I had when I was that age. Especially all the times I will never forget, for one, when I would go to weddings or other big things, and be able to dance on my daddy's feet. Or when I would play with my older cousins and they would swing me around and I was so small it would make me feel like I was weightless. Yet now I am too big to do most of those things and I miss that feeling, but I have learned that being older brings great things such as responsibility. So if someone asked me if I knew a good children's book, I would have to say Am I Big or Little? by Margaret Park Bridges.

A really sweet book.......2000-12-05

This is a terrific book that doesn't just talk about the sizes, big and small, but the possibilities. The child has a enormous amount of fun being both big and little, with the story focusing on the things that she can do. The book is written as a conversation between the child and her mother. It reminds me a little of "The Runaway Bunny". The conversation is not as protective but the love shows through. It also reads smoothly so it is a good book to read aloud.

Large board book.......2001-07-19

First of all, check out the dimensions. This is a rather large board book. Each page has a simple picture (Bird Bird and little bird, Big Bird sitting in a nest, Big Bird on a see-saw with a few friends . . . ) and the text is quite simple, only one or two sentences per page. My 2-year old enjoys the book but it is a little unweildy because of it's size. It is, however, not very long, just a few pages. There really isn't a theme like in other books where they cover shapes, or colors, or bedtime. It's just a little narrative by Big Bird - birds have feathers, birds live in nests, I live in a big nest, some birds fly but I don't (he roller-skates). It's not destined to become a classic children's book but it has bright pictures of recognizable Sesame Street characters (including Bert, Ernie, and Zoe, among others) and an uncomplicated text.

My son is now 20 years old, and this book was one of his very favorite books to read, in fact at age 2, he could recite the entire book!!

Excellent "friendly" dinosaur book.......2000-11-07

This was my kids' introduction to dinosaurs, and it was an excellent way to introduce them in a non-threatening way. The brontosaurus of the title is friendly, cute and peaceful. The book does, though, show a good range of other dinosaurs, like allosaurs and triceratops. The book doesn't go into depth, but what it does it does right.

This is a cute book. Although the size of the book is somewhat small, it has an imaginative story of a dinosaur living during our time and how he would not fit in very well. A Good book.

A great book for young dinosaur lovers! The pictures are very realistic and extremely detailed, therefore generate many questions from curious dino-philes. For parents, it's an interesting read, as well.
Text on each page is limited, yet descriptive. A great book for emerging readers to "read" back to parents and siblings.
I have been so impressed with this book, I have purchased others in the series.

Mom - you were right, sometimes!.......2001-04-22

While some of the angst reflected in the "Cathy" cartoon we see in our daily newspapers seems irrelevant to those of us well settled into middle age, this little book of cartoons strikes an essential chord in any daughter's heart. We may not always have agreed with our mothers as we were growing up but this book allows the mature daughter to recognize that some of the things our mothers drilled into us are simply basic elements of human social interaction - and mom was right and we were wrong! My university age daughter sent it to me recently for my 49th birthday - and I am sending it to my mother for upcoming Mother's Day.

This must have been one of the funniest books I've ever read. It has different stories about Andy Griffiths when he was a kid. All stories are about Andy playing practical jokes on his parents, his friends, and total strangers. You won't know what's funny until you've read Just Joking. It is extremely hilarious. One of the main reasons I liked this book is how fast it is. There wasn't a part in the book where I was bored. Andy Griffiths sure knows how to keep the reader just wanting to keep on reading. Just Joking is also a very easy book to read.

This book is intresting and funny.I would simply describe it as hilarious.I've read most of the "Just" books and all of the "butt" books.I recommend this book for kids of all ages.

I liked Just Joking because it was very, very funny. It's a whole bunch of very, very silly stories. He plays very good pranks on people, only most times he gets in trouble. One of the funny parts was when he wanted a milkshake, he wanted a chocolate milkshake, but instead of chocolate syrup, they used slugs! If you like practical jokes, this would be a completely excellent book for you. I would totally recommend this book.

Now I have read all the "Just" books, but I remember Just Joking the most. I was reading one of the funny stories in this book and I laughed so hard that I almost did the number one in my pants! I wish I could read more funny books from this author.

Zoe jokes about being a lion.......2006-03-09

This little book may be a bit confusing for young children. Zoe, a character from Sesame Street, decides to dress up as a lion for Halloween. She enjoys it so much she decides to dress up a bit early and spends the day in costume meeting her friends from Sesame Stree in the park. She roars and pounces like a lion, but doesn't understand it when she is not invited by Big Bird to a party that takes place the next day. She goes to the party and apologizes to everyone for "joking" with them the day earlier as she takes off the lion costume. I'm not sure that there is a clear message here. It seems that the lesson may be that imagining is good, but too much can have bad consequences. In any case, young children might have fun considering Zoe using her imagination to be a lion.
