Customer Reviews:
Way Better Out There.......2007-08-09
I'll admit that I only tried 3 recipes from the book - the chocolate chip cookies, pound cake and basic brownies. They were all pretty bad; I was surprised because the cover said that the author baked for a restaurant. Try baked goods (and other recipes) from Chef Brian McCarthy's Vegan Family Cookbook, Vegan Planet, or Isa Chandra Moskowitz's books.
Somewhat disappointing.......2007-04-28
I wish this book had worked out, but like some of the other reviewers, I just couldn't get the recipies to turn out right. Made a few of them, but they just didn't taste the way I thought they should - undercooked even after baking for much longer than the recipe directed, too heavy, too reliant on maple syrup, too much customization and experimentation required to make them work out right (or at all).
It's too bad, because all the recipes look like they should be delicious...
I really, really wanted this to be a good cookbook, but I gave the book away because I knew I just wouldn't use it after my failed attempts at some of the recipies.
Sinful and Yummy !!.......2007-04-11
An excellent book with lots of yummy recipes in that even friends and family that are not vegan absolutely love !!
Yuck!.......2007-03-19
I've tried a handful of recipes from this book; all were gross. I am unwilling to waste time and ingredients trying any more. I have had much better success with vegan desserts from Peter Berley, Myra Kornfeld, and Isa Chandra Moskowitz. I cannot recommend this book. In fact, I recycled the book because I thought it unkind to pass it on to anyone else.
Sticky Pecan Squares / Omni Pecan Pie Smackdown!.......2007-02-28
This book is great, especially if you have a lot of omnivore party functions to attend. Most of the recipes pass the scrupulous omnivore test for satisfying and tasty yet vegan desserts. The Sticky Pecan Squares, hands down, is my favorite dish to bring to holiday functions because its flavor mimics pecan pie so well that people will gobble them up and leave that poor pecan pie in the dust.

Customer Reviews:
Disappointed.......2007-05-16
I bought this book hoping for quick and easy smoothie recipes with fewer carbs. Unfortunately, this book relies VERY heavily on specialty ingredients - AdvantEdge shakes, Zone Perfect protein powder, Amplify dietary supplement, KETO instant pudding mix, Carb Countdown, Old Orchard low carb juice mix - none of which can I get in my local stores. As far as I can tell from searching on the internet, the KETO and Old Orchard products have been discontinued.
While the recipes sound tasty, there is not one recipe that doesn't call for at least one of these products and some recipes call for up to 4! I don't mind when a book occasionally relies on a specialty product, but not every single recipe. It also relies heavily on sugar-free syrups (such as Torani or Da Vinci) and Crystal Light drink mix in flavors I have never seen in the stores around here. All things considered, I doubt I'll make even one recipe out of this book. If I've got to buy 3 or 4 expensive and hard-to-find ingredients just to make one smoothie, forget it.
If you are looking for low carb smoothies, Dana Carpender's book is much better and calls for very few specialty items.

Book Description
Lots of kids have a sweet tooth. But not like Stewart's. His very loud sweet tooth wants what it wants, when it wants it...and lets everyone know about it.
Stewart's sweet tooth screams for cake at weddings, for candy during class, and torments him at the movies. Stewart has had enough, and he's bringing out the big guns -- a carrot.
Can he stand up to the most annoying sweet tooth in history?
Customer Reviews:
So Funny!.......2007-10-02
My daughter and I laughed all the way through this book! It's really a good one!
We loved the book Sweet Tooth, it was hilarious!.......2007-02-17
In the book Sweet Tooth by Margie Palatini the characters are
Stewart, Sweet Tooth, tooth fairy and Stewart's sister. The
setting of the story is mostly in Stewart's mouth. The problem
in the story is that Sweet Tooth won't leave Stewart alone and
gets him in trouble by demanding sweets. We recommend this
book for all ages. We gave this book 3 stars for its funniness,
silliness, craziness, randomness, and creepiness.
So very funny - with a good message!.......2006-12-06
This is one of my daughter's (age 6) favorite books! The first time we read it we both could not stop laughing!
As a parent, I really like the message of willpower that this book conveys - the little boy with the sweet tooth stays strong and determines a solution to his own problem. I'm not one of those parents that feels every children's book has to have a some underlying lesson, but this book perfectly combines one with pure sillyness.
A great read for parents and kids!
It was perfect for our 3 and 5 year old.......2006-03-23
My girls loved this book so much we bought it for their cousin. They have a sweet tooth and really identified with the book. It's very silly. We bought a used version and it was in great shape.
One of the most entertaining books we've found!.......2005-05-10
I read this book several times to my 3 year old daughter, she CRACKED UP every time. I'm not sure she understood every word of it, but she was certainly entertained by it! TIP: if you make an obnoxious, crazed voice for the tooth, its all the better!
Book Description
Cupcakes, chocolate bars, truffles, candied fruit, apple pies, ice cream sundaes. . . America has a passion for edible sweets, a fact that has informed not only food manufacturers, the Food and Drug Administration, health care professionals, and restaurateurs, but also many generations of artists. In Sweet Tooth, 40 artists, including Ed Ruscha, Wayne Thiebaud, Claes Oldenburg, Vik Muniz, Laurie Simmons, Shimon Attie, Enrique Chagoya, Jana Sterbak, and Andy Warhol, explore the visual landscape of the dessert, while at the same time confronting such complex issues as body image, feminism, gender issues, and illness. One hundred works in a variety of media, ranging from the 1970s through the present, offer variations on the still life, meditations on the perishable, thoughts on sweet symbolism, and an always welcome sugar fix.

Book Description
Vegetables can wait-dessert comes first.
This is the motto at Pinky's Sweet Tooth, a bakery run by hardworking Pinky and her niece Lulu. From Chocolate Yummies to Tutti-Frutti Cookies, Lulu thinks her aunt's desserts are the best in the whole universe. Unfortunately, no one else realizes it. The Sweet Tooth needs some customers.
Aunt Pinky has another saying: "Without luck on your side, you have to get up really early in the morning." And no one gets up earlier than Pinky. Soon she is at work day and night on her greatest dessert ever, one she is sure will win first prize in the county fair and make the bakery famous. With Lulu as a taste tester and plenty of extra chocolate, Pinky whips up a sensational surprise, proving that luck doesn't just happen, it's something you have to make from scratch.
Michele Malkin's bright, boisterous artwork and a gentle message about the rewards of hard work make this picture book as irresistibly sweet as any of Aunt Pinky's chocolatey confections-kids will crave reading it as much as eating their favorite tasty treat!
Customer Reviews:
Tasty treat.......2003-04-02
With artwork as delicious as one of Aunt Pinky's confections, this sweet picture book about the rewards of persistence and imagination will be gobbled up by young children and their parents, who may just recognize a kindred spirit in the hard-working but playful Pinky.
Good Sweet Fun.......2003-03-06
A cute story, fun to read. Very different look and colors. My kids really enjoyed it.
It is a very enjoyable black comedy........1998-11-10
Gallow's Humor is a dark but amusing piece. Although it involves some issues that might be seen inappropriate, such as prostitution, it also deals with things that the everyday man can relate with. I'd love to see a company produce this daring work.

Book Description
Hailed as the most comprehensive introduction to PLCs on the market today, this newly updated 5th Edition covers theory, hardware, instructions, programming, installation, startup, and troubleshooting in a way that is easy to understand and apply. New material has been added to explain communication networks, basic control signals, linear scaling of analog process signals, and Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) instructions used by many PLC applications. Supplementary programming examples utilizing the PLC instructions in the book impart a better understanding of the various instructions and how they can be combined to create simple yet effective control logic solutions for today's world.
Customer Reviews:
Poor excuse for a PLC book.......2005-12-19
This book is intended for the beginner, it has so may misprints and errors in it makes a hard subject for the beginner to an impossible one to understand! This 4th edition has many of the same misprints in it from the first edition! I would never recommend this book to anyone!
A good reference for PLC beginners........2000-01-15
I used this book with great success in the course, Introduction to Programmable Logic Controllers, which I developed for a leading aircraft manufacturer. This book was recommended reading prior to attending other PLC courses offered in my training business.
Clear and concise with practical information for beginners.......1998-10-18
I used this book to train industrial electricians and recommended it in the PLC course I designed at Coyne American Institute in Chicago in 1989. They still use the book along with a lab manual and Allen Bradley PLC's in the electrical maintenance course. I reviewed other books and felt this one was the right choice for the length of course, training level and content. It is clearly written with hardware and instruction set examples from various PLC manufacturers, troubleshooting, number systems, start-up hints and some useful general computer information. Also included is a chapter on understanding MS-DOS commands-very handy for people (a lot of them around) with no computer background except a point-and-click once in a while. The soft cover format, number of pages (372) and size make it easy to carry and throw in a brief case. If you are learning PLC's for the first time, this is a good place to start. If I was going to add anything to it for the next edition, I would include things like data highway, serial communications, remote displays and PID loop. Maybe a little more about programming details involving analog I/O would be nice.

Frightful Fairytales
ASIN: 1560975326 |
Book Description
Victorian humor, horror, and romance from a unique comics stylist. One of the most beguiling presences on the comics scene, Dame Darcymusician, actress, cable TV star, fortune teller, dollmaker, and last but not least, cartoonist to the corehas been bewitching readers for over ten years with her neo-Victorian horror/humor/ romance comic Meatcake. Alternating between one-off (often cruelly tragic) fairy tales and ongoing romps starring her eclectic cast of characters, including Effluvia the Mermaid, the roguish roué Wax Wolf, Igpay the Pig-Latin pig, Stregapez (a women who speaks by dispensing Pez-like tablets through a bloody hole in her throat), the mischievous Siamese twins Hindrance and Perfidia, Scampi the Selfish Shellfish, the stalwart Friend the Girl, and the blonde bombshell Richard Dirt, all delineated in her inimitable luxurious scrawl, Meatcake is like a peek into the most creative, deranged dollhouse you ever saw.
Dame Darcy's Meatcake Compilation assembles in clothbound luxury the very best from the first decade of Meatcake (including "Hungry Is the Heart," the legendary collaboration with Watchmen's Alan Moore, a big Darcy fan who has worked with her on his ABC Comics)almost 200 pages of wild and woolly comics.
Darcy's fans include many of her fellow cartoonists, and such similarly flamboyant personalities as Courtney Love (who once memorably guested on Darcy's cable TV show Turn of the Century). She also has a huge following in the Goth community, who enjoy her wickedly ghoulish sense of humor and retro art style. 200 pages b/w illustrations.
Customer Reviews:
Experience Meatcake!.......2004-01-24
For those of you that aren't familar with Dame Darcy or her Meatcake comics you are in for a treat. Granted there is a certain audience, her comics are a mixture of gothic horror, romance, intrigue, and novelty, so not everyone may appreciate this series. If you like yr comedy noir and can appreciate the idea of mermaids and siamese twins being "normal" girls this should be right up yr alley.
This compliation covers Meatcakes #s 1-7. #0 is missing, but luckily Fantagraphics has reprinted it and it is widely avaiable. (Just go to damedarcy.com for more details.)
The presentation of this edition is stunning, it is hardbound with creamy thick pages and excellent reproductions of her comics.

Customer Reviews:
Useful for both new and experienced recreation leaders........2005-06-25
Ruth Stotter's newest book is like a small "dictionary" of fun, easy games and time fillers that's great to have in your briefcase or backpack when working with groups. Especially good for those who are just starting out in storytelling, recreation or other forms of activities with children, Ruth has managed to incorporate a wide variety of both active and thinking games. If you are an experienced recreation leader or teacher, you'll find this book is a nice go-to guide to remind you of games and activities you once knew but might have pushed to the back of your brain. I found myself saying, "Oh, yeah, I've done that one and they kids loved it" several times. I can imagine, too, that older children might have a good time using this book to plan a program for younger siblings or school mates. Overall a nice resource book to have at your fingertips when working with the grade-school crowd.(-Storyteller.net Reviews)
