Customer Reviews:
Complete introduction into traditional wedding photography.......2007-08-18
It is the first wedding book that I like out of three that I have. Easy to read and understand, covered every area that I had questions about, nice and light humor. Full of useful examples and advices. I immediately saw how implementing some new techniques from this book can improve my work.
Outdated!.......2007-07-03
I was disappointed with this book. There were some good ideas such as formal posing, but otherwise, outdated. A better wedding photography book by far is "Digital Wedding Photography" by Glen Johnson.
Whether you like this book will depend on your photography style.......2007-06-05
If you lean more towards wedding photojournalism, you'll find this book annoying. The author takes stab after stab at the photojournalistic style and concentrates on listing which images you can sell after the wedding.
I found the photography examples rather cheesy and old. The "Posing" chapter starts with a full page image of a bride and groom (almost smack in the middle of the photograph) and the groom's arms hanging down to his sides. I'm new to wedding photography, but even I know that's poor posing! It has some good points, but I wasn't too impressed.
If you're into Traditional style of photography, this is a very good book for you to read. The author breaks the wedding down to almost every kind of picture you should create and how to make it sell at the end. It will be useful to you.
So far, after having read 4 separate books on wedding photography this is my least favorite.
Well organized guide.......2007-05-13
I have bought several books on posing and wedding photography. This is my first covering the most important aspects of the wedding photography business. Although it admits the prevailing tendency of admitting casual, journalistic photos on a wedding album, it still thoroughly explains the conventional wedding photos. It also describes how to deal with the business side of this activity. I consider this book a good very good source for those of us who would like to enter on this field of photography.
Very Informative.......2007-03-27
I've been reading through this and have found it very informative. I'm happy with my purchase.
Book Description
The drums and horns of war still sound through the Middle Kingdoms, though the invading Empire of Thessid-Gola has been dealt a setback. The powers at play - the High King of Therapoli, his nobles and officers, the lurking Isliklid King, his warrior-servants, and the Sultan, commander of the Empire's armies - are all maneuvering for advantage, setting snares and traps for each other, with prisoners of war become hostages held in the balance. And through this den of vipers marches Artesia, self-proclaimed Queen of Dara Dess, with magic coursing through her veins, the whispers of ghosts in her ears, and an army at her back as she confronts the temptations, limits, and consequences of power.
Customer Reviews:
Adventure with Thought.......2005-02-18
This is a sexy series with substance. The art is beautiful and the story is intricate and compelling. The comparison to Middle Earth is apt as the author has created a detailed geography and history. I also appreciate a fairly regular schedule of release for new issues something that can not often be depended on.
Tolkein for the 21st Century.......2004-06-17
This graphic novel won the Gold in ForeWord magazine's book awards, and it richly deserved it. In Artesia Afire, Mark Smylie has created a world the reader can get lost in. But this is not light escapism. In this world, the arts of war, magic, and eros intertwine in a deadly serious epic tale. Smylie mixes serious scholarship with boundless imagination to present a haunting world and an unforgetable hero. History, cartography, myth, linguistics, cultural and political theory, and beautiful art all give form to Artesia. It is the stuff of Tolkein.

thanks TOM.......2000-04-01
I am not much of a writer but I am an avid reader. I thought this book hit the spot, like a warm mug of coco on a bitter Chicago eve(that is my best try at creative writing). It was trully refreshing, although some what dated, the 80s, I had a great time reading it. Every night before laying down to sleep for about a week I would lose my self in the funny and witty storys Tom writes about (I feel like I know him). I would make this a strong buy expecally if you are a Tom Bodett fan or just want to read a great short book.

Short Essays.......2006-11-12
This book is a collection of short essays by audiocolumnist Tom Bodett. The essays range from tools and how to use them, to fathering and environmentalism. Some are humorous, others intended in a more serious vein. The essays were originally written in the late 1980s, so a few of them are dated by now, but others are timeless.
Small Comforts.......2000-05-31
This is one of those books I buy for friends all over the world with instructions: If you want to have a riotous laugh, read Tom Bodett's stories. He is at once poignant and hilarious.
Amazon.com
This is a delightful little book, filled with personal stories about how people reclaim their personal lives and fulfill their pleasures, and is another very tangible way of stopping to "smell the roses" in one's life. Tips, stories, quotes, recipes--they are a simple pleasure to read and a delight to contemplate.
Customer Reviews:
Simple Pleasures.......2004-01-13
I got this book at an AAUW booksale that I work at each year. It probably cost me $.50 and it is definitely the best book buy I have ever made! Even though I have not followed through with many of the suggestions, just reading them makes me feel better. When I have the time, I am planning on trying out each idea because they sound so great, and easy! I'm sending this book to all my closest girl friends.
Simple Pleasures when you need a mini retreat.......2003-11-26
I facilitate support groups for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. This book is wonderful for closing the group when we've done some really hard work, and we want to end with something positive. One of my favorite stories to use is the "Stuffed Animal Support Group". This book is such a refreshing reminder of how to incorporate pleasure into our lives. It has stories for every season of the year. If you need a mini retreat, curl up in the corner with Simple Pleasures and a cup of tea. You won't regret it!
Shows you how to sieze the day and savor the moment.......2003-06-24
The cover could be a metaphor for the book: the soothing comfort of sitting in a sunny country garden enjoying flowers or the meanderings of a stream. This book is a collection of experiences, recipes, ideas, and quotes on savoring life's simple pleasures: warm socks, homemade vanilla ice cream, beading, etc.. Separated into seasons, this is a wonderful book to browse around through when you need to take a mini-vacation from the hectic schedules and stress.
Within the four Seasonal sections (Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter), there are four categories: Home... Garden & the Great Outdoors... Body & Soul... Family & Friends. These are further broken down into sub sections sprinkled throughout the categories:
- Things To Do, for example, has recipes, crafts, and suggestions for taking advantage of the season. These are easy to follow, even offering suggestions for upkeeping the house and getting the family involved.
- Stories of simple pleasures are very short, almost like thoughts, but are presented in the form of advice or wisdom.
- The quotes remind us to take things slow and enjoy life.
Easy to read, and wonderful to poke around through. I recommend it to anyone whose ever had one of those "nothing is going right" days. You don't have to read it every day, or even every month, but even a chancing glance after a hard day made this a worthwhile purchase for me.
Simple Pleasures is a simple treasure.......2003-06-16
Relaxing and inspiring ideas are contained in this lovely little book. It was very refreshing to see such simple ways to treat yourself or sooth your soul. I am definitely stocking up to give as bridal shower gifts, etc.
Gentle suggestions to make life easier.......2000-11-06
I love the soft illustration on the cover. The image of the wicker chair and wide open front porch invites the reader to come sit for a while. This book is perfect for the women in your life who needs to learn how to 'live in the moment'. Most of us are too busy being busy that we forget what's important in life, what will truly matter in the long run. The authors offer suggestions on how to slow down the world in their recipes, tips and the stories they've selected for the book.

Excellent advice.......2004-05-12
This book is just what the world needs to hear. A simpler lifestyle has done me and my family a world of good and I highly recommend it to anyone who is in need of decompressing their life and reconnecting with themselves. Well done!
Lots of practical, easy-to-implement advice!.......2001-12-09
This is truly a book for the times! With layoffs happening across the country, what better time to take stock of your family life? Christine Klein shows how to make the most of what you have -- financially and emotionally. In the process, you may just find -- as I did -- that you already have almost everything you need. You'll definitely feel empowered after reading this book!
Simple Reassurance.......2001-12-08
Reading this book is like sitting down with a good friend and having them tell you the secret to life.
Talk about having it all, Christine Klein has it all.
This book reassured me on the choices I've made in my life...even though I still work full time.
She presents simple solutions on guidance to managing a household...not just as a "to do" list...but with love. She is clear, consice and, again, reassuring, that life is all about the people you journey with...not about the vehicle you ride in or the clothes you wear along the way.
This book would be a wonderful gift to anyone who is in the midst of dealing with a hectc life....enjoy!
Great Book!.......2001-12-07
I really enjoyed this book. Not only was it a good read, but it was filled with great ideas! It's so easy to get caught up in material things. This book brought back how family and family time is what's really important. Thanks Chris!
Simplify Your Life.......2001-12-07
I heartily recommend Chris Klein's guide to simplifying your family and your life. Chris is a well-known writer in the Cincinnati area with whom I have had the good fortune to work. Her own life is a testament to the wisdom she shares in this book. If you are feeling stressed because of conflicts between your work and family life, you need this book. Chris's writing is as no-nonsense and as straightforward as her message. You will come away armed with practical advice on exactly how to make your life easier--and better. Your family will thank you for years to come!

very nice compilation.......2007-01-28
No big review here . . . just a note that I thought this was an especially sweet book about things people do that bring them pleasures in life. Many are familiar, and some are new, and I'll give a few of them a try. A nice little read, and I'll pass it around the family for them to read.
70 Comforts for Mind, Body, and Spirit.......2005-09-08
"Just think how much different our lives would be-calmer, happier, healthier-if we spent more time nurturing ourselves and less time on the endless string of tasks we assign ourselves every day." - From the book
Author Carol Wiseman sent out a letter to everyone she knew, past and present, asking, "What comforts you the most?" and "How do you relive your stress?" The broad cross section of replies offered a window into what brings people relief when the details of life get them down. One thing proved certain to the author: we all share the need to be nurtured in some way.
A Patchwork of Comforts - Small Pleasures for Peace of Mind shares the brief personal comforts, but the author adds her own inspired voice by creating two perspectives from which to view each comfort. The first, culled from Wiseman's imagination and written from a first-person point of view, pulls the reader gently into each experience. In the second perspective, the author offers her thoughts on what makes each subject a source of such pleasure.
Why, exactly, do we need to be comforted? The author actually lists in the Appendix, verbatim, dozens of personal stresses for those who contributed to the book. Here are but a few:
* Adapting to life as a widow
* Not being "first" on anyone's list
* Isolation
* Marital difficulties
* Not being in control
* A husband that works all the time
* Wishing my wife would stop smoking
* Poor international relations and risk of world wars
* TMJ and arthritis in my jaw
* Having a stack of unpaid bills and only $5 in the bank
* Kids!!! (a two year old screamer and a teenager)
For example, Bobbie from Grants Pass, Oregon finds comfort by listening to his favorite music-very loud-when he wants to break stress:
"I'm bored, bored, bored. Life has fallen back into a rut lately, and I need some sort of an uplift. When I'm in a funk like this, music always does the trick, flowing over my body like fairy dust, getting my life back on track. Enter Elton. My own body shocks me. It's moving, and I'm powerless to stop the growing urge to sway. Some CDs just defy grumpy, and he's done it again, good old Dr. John..."
Organized alphabetically, A Patchwork of Comforts offers 70 comforts for the body, mind, and spirit and includes entertaining bits of trivia, recipes, and black-and-white photos throughout. A few of the comforts include:
* Bath: Ahhh, alone at last
* Daydreams: Going to the movies for free
* Eating Out: No decisions, no cleanup
* Golf: Challenge in paradise
* Lists: Let you know where you stand
* Orion and Family: Sky glitter starts a part in your heart
* Peaceful People: Calm is contagious
* Wheelchair Accessible: Getting in-and out-of everyday places
* Yard Work: A chance to nurture
Reflecting on her own life, the author muses how fears irrational, irrelevant, and debilitating has kept her from living life to the fullest. Often, we don't stop to examine the autopilot nature of our lives and the tension that's underneath the surface. Nurturing ourselves is not only kind, but also essential for balance and harmony. A Patchwork of Comforts indirectly reveals the nature of everyday stress and fatigue that sends us off-kilter and offers uplifting, practical solutions to life's pressures. If you're feeling overwhelmed by daily tasks, outside pressures, and conditions beyond your control, this book provides a calming, centering voice of comfort.
Warm, wondeful gift for yourself, for others!.......2004-10-23
It's strange but somehow just reading about the things others find comforting is in itself comforting! This wonderful little book had the effect of bringing me back to me, over and over. I keep giving away my copies becaue I find that I want my friends to have the same experience. It's not a book you want returned. It's one you want to go on and on.
I hope there is a sequel!
Great gift idea for yourself and others during the holidays.......2004-10-03
This book kept me warm and smiling recently during a bus ride home from visiting my daughter and her husband. I like the refreshing mix of familiar comforts, new ideas and entertaining tidbits of information - all shared in a conversational manner, which encourages periodic revisiting to savor one page at a time. This, along with the size, format and price has earned it a place on my list for holiday giving!
It's always the little things that matter.......2004-07-12
This is the little self-help book that actually helps. You'll remember some of the things you used to enjoy, but have been forgetting to do for a while. You'll get some great new ideas that reward you for taking just a few moments out of your day for yourself. In fact the beauty of this little book is that although it seems to have been written just for me, the busy professional who needs some ideas on how to manage stress but who doesn't have the time to read a self-help book, the advice provided is collected from such a diverse group of people that it seems likely that it will speak to you as well.
