It is quite a good compilation of solutions that you can use to refresh your mind when creating something new in fact.
And it can also be helpful when you don't want to spend much time creating something to your client.

I teach College and it is handy to get students outside of the letter sized frame of mind. But for a seasoned professional it isn't that jazzy. The box/container book in this series is really good.

I purchased this book because I understood from the description that it would be helpful in various kinds of folds, including boxes. The book is primarily a 2 dimensional folding exercise for pretty simple items. I returned it.
LOTS of folds, no text.......2006-09-03
That pretty much sums it up. The book does have some care put into it. Just not as much as I was hoping for.
It is designed to be universal. The short introduction is in several languages, the rest of the book is diagrams.
I would have liked more information about logical uses for some of these folds. Some seem a bit excessive and almost inpractical.
However, many of the folds in the book are quite nice.
The way the book is setup, the folds are each on a spread. Left page the full sheet view to the right page of a final piece - all the steps inbetween across the spread.
My only wish is that there was some small text helping to explain some of the folds. Also, maybe a photograph of a fold in a real world use.
IF you use your imagination, you can put this book to GREAT use. If you need your hand held for everything, this is not the book for you.
It certainly stays on my shelf.
100% Brilliant.......2005-04-23
This book is probably one of the most useful books a graphic designer or folding enthusiast can own in their library. If you are the type that hates to read long winding instructions on how to make something simple, this is the perfect book. It has clean line drawings of die cuts and folds with straightforward instructions marked by few arrows and numbers. What is so cool about this book is its simplicity. As they say, less is more.
The best part is the enclosed CD-ROM, which in itself is completely worth the price of the book. It contains all the templates of the pieces illustrated in the book. It has saved me so much time from having to redraw die cuts. All you have to do is resize it to your requirements.
Overall, it has enhanced my understanding of folds by a 100%. I refer to it very often even to make a simple folder, envelope or brochure.
Remember, its a very simple book. If you are an advanced folder this is not the right book for you, but it will undoubtedly be a great book for reference.

How to play the junk hands you get.......2007-01-22
There are many books that show you how to play pocket kings and what to do with 2-7, but this book gives insight into playing those marginal hands like 7-9 off suit.He also goes into the concept of isolation and when to use it. The insights he gives will help your play.
How to play short handed.......2004-08-25
This book is a really good book on how to play short handed. Most poker books discuss how to play premium hands against large fields of players. This is a book about how to play sub premium hands in situations where isolation is possible; that is situations where the opponents are tight and unimaginative.
The strategy involved is:
1) Play cards that will do well against the opponent's likely hands (since the opponents are tight these are limited)
2) Play in position so you end up heads up
3) Make sure your little cards are seen by the opponents so that you get an "always plays junk / always bluffs" reputation and thus win big with your big hands that come in due to lose calling.
4) Play defensively so that you are unlikely to be bluffed at
The book is certainly original enough to warrant picking up for $20. I wish it were longer and more detailed but the author does also have a tournament practice book.

Bought the book, but found a dream home before we had the chance to start building. I would recommend it highly if you are thinking about being your own contractor.
An unfortunately titled, but still valuable book.......2003-06-16
This book should probably have been called "How to Prepare Yourself Legally and Financially to Build Your Own Home." The title it does have is not representative of the book's true focus, and I believe does a disservice to those who want a construction book *and* those who would benefit from the legal and financial information it so richly covers. One group is disappointed, while the other skips over it because they think it doesn't apply to their needs.
To be blunt, the actual construction process is not very well covered. For instance, owner-builders probably do not know what types of materials are high quality vs. just high price tag vs. "standard" and possibly inadequate. That is a huge hole in the book -- materials overall are skimmed over. The one time they got specific, they almost sounded like a commercial for Andersen windows. I'm sure Andersen windows are just fine, but I seriously doubt that you simply "must" buy them to have resell value in your house.
The other huge hole is how to manage the actual building phase -- what to expect, pitfalls and such. Yes, it has a chart, but it's hard to read (it's sideways!), there is no explanation if the numbers signify days or weeks, and in general it is not adequate. There was a very short chapter at the very end on common mistakes, but once again it seemed to skim over that information. Also, I realize that every house is built differently, but it would have been nice to have one example project used throughout the book so that the reader could see a cohesive picture of how that particular house was built. Nothing like a concrete example!
In spite of its shortcomings and the rather dated ideas about what makes a home have resell value (this book was written in the early 90s, just as "starter castles" with cavernous ceilings and huge greatrooms were becoming popular), this book offers a ton of good -- and most importantly, timeless -- information.
In a nutshell:
If you need or want to know about the financial and legal process of building your own house, right down to the surveying, appraising and loans, including sample contracts and forms, then buy this book.
If you are interested in a guide on how to actually *build* a quality, custom home that has updated materials lists, a detailed example schedule and realistic work/time/money expectations, worksheets and samples of change orders, contracts for craftsmen and other construction sundries, then do not buy this book.
Not enough on the building process.......2000-01-12
This book really went into detail on how to finance, how to choose a site, and a lot of other preparation processes for building a home. What it is severly lacking in is a detailed idea of how to schedule the home building process. It has a flow diagram, but does not have any detail behind each task. The most important piece of building a home in an established time is to know the order of when to schedule work; when to pick household items, colors, flooring, etc; when to install the septic system or run electricity; when to decide on the type of cabinets (stain or paint grade); etc. All of these items are critical to obtaining a quality home, at the lowest cost, in the quickest time possible. Many home builders are 1)delayed by the simple fact that they do not know about the steps until they are delaying the process and 2)surprised by the cost of the home because they established a price based on unknown selection criteria. Change orders mean increased cost and time to any project. I would like to find a book that really addresses these issues for a home builder.
Highly recommended even if you don't want to be your own GC.......1999-06-01
This book covers both house buying and working with contractors. Do not be put off by its title; I would recommend it even if you are buying a standard house or building an addition to your existing house.
Although it seems to be very specific to building a new custom house, in fact it gives excellent advice on all phases of buying a house or lot (including evaluating it, bargaining, financing, etc.) as well as finding contractors, negotiating with them, etc. It assumes you are going to be your own general contractor, but even if you are not, its advice is pertinent and useful.
Some of the discussions of contracts and payment schedules may seem a bit nit-picky, but you ought to read "The Home Remodeler's Combat Manual" to show why it can be necessary.
I find it much better than Bob Vila's book on house buying, and also better than House Buying Step-by-Step (which was the best among the other books I found at the bookstore).
It's unfortunate that its title makes its scope seem so narrow.

This book has excellent recommendations and techniques for capturing the most beautiful wedding photos. The pictures published in this book alone are worth the cost of the book, IMO. They are beautiful and give great ideas. She tells you exactly how she captured the photo although I would've liked some more technical info on some of the photos. I highly recommend this book.

If you are a photographer, you know perfectly well that no book is going to teach you much of the style you develop on your own. It is great for general ideas, but you really should be able to see who you are working with and figure out what kind of shots will suit the couple. I doubt that there are many brides that will appreciate a picture like the one on the front cover of this book.
Strong photographs, weak on techniques.......2007-09-02
If you're looking for a book that illustrates wedding photography in broad strokes, this book is fine. It talks about breaking the day down into different sections, what the photographer likes to have in her bag, some post-processing filters she uses, etc... However the treatment is on the shallow end in detail.
On the back of the book it says "... to inspire any bride-to-be and the photographer on her special day." I think as long as your not looking for more than inspiration, this book will be fine, however it does not really go into technical depth on the challenges and techniques to handle those challenges that a wedding photographer will encounter.
It's really aimed more at inspiration than instruction.
Good general book on Digital Wedding photography.......2007-05-15
Bambi covers all the basics, from before the event, the event, manipulating the image and delivery. Not a lot of details (except she does give exactly what is in her camera bag), but overall a good book. I was somewhat surprised at the poor quality of some of the images, especially the cover image. Not what one would expect from Bambi.

I returned this book after the first read. As a new wedding photographer I admire Cantrell's style and her first book was excellent, thus I had high expections for her second book which covered digital wedding photography. It seems as if she was distracted in writing this book. The explanations regarding equipment, dealing with the wedding couple, pricing, are vague and the explanations tired and repetetive, and many of the photos are out of focus and grainy. Definitely not of the quality and caliber of her first writing endeavor. If one is buying this book searching for ideas on how to effectively manage your digital workflow, deal with jpeg vs. raw, eye-candy photos for inspiration for one's one work, and digital techniques for wedding photography, you will not find it here. You may want to purchase her first book for inspiration and ideas, it is better written.

Good Content But Mediocre Presentation.......2004-11-04
This should have been the definitive guide to Crusade. From the point of view of content, it certainly was. The plot summaries and critiques were well-written and comprehensive. There was little left out that should have been there. However, the book itself left much to be desired, beginning with pictures. Most guide books to television series, as The Watcher's Guides of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel: Casefiles contain numerous pictures, usually in color. There were NO pictures in this book; at least there should have been pictures of the cast and the basic sets. The printing itself was too dark; spaces between paragraphs were too small, making the book less easy to read. I feel that the publisher did not do justice to what could have been an outstanding book. I actually give the book 5 stars for content and 1 star for publication.

This little "book" is not worth the money payed for it. If you are a big fan of crusade, you probably have compiled this list by yourself. If you are not a fan, you better wait for a real guidebook like those published about Babylon 5.

It was absolutely fabulous to find a Babylon 5 CRUSADE book! Without even thinking my fingers did the point click and buy! 4 dayslater I ripped open my box...my excitement now waivering. Before me was a 34 page booklet that resembled those flimsy typed high school or graduation programs. The ( ) was a bit too steep for this. However, the content is pretty great. With listings of websites with info,conventions,merchandise,and facts galore, my exitement level arose!And I loved the episode guide at the end of the book. This booklet is great for info, but the ( ) may be pricey for being a flimsy booklet. END

A good book to read if you are looking for some good laughs and a healthy way to help you through the ongoing trials of life. The author uses a lot of stories she has gathered from others as examples of successful outcomes. Mostly stories of mothers going through trials brought on by their children - either in death or rebellion, even homosexuality. Although i believe the author could have used more scripture: If you are looking for encouragement, laced with some laughter, grab this book.
