Book Description
Titian's decorous, but hardly restrained, paintings became established examples for Baroque painters, suggesting new ways to interpret the Counter Reformation and art. This book examines issues of sensuality and violence in Titian's religious paintings in the context of the changing religious climate of sixteenth-century Venice. Rather than distinguish between sacred or secular subjects, Titian used different criteria for paintings of different sizes, locations, or subjects.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

really comprehensive dictionary for fashion history buffs.......2000-03-22
Sprinkled with b/w illustrations, this dictionary has got definitions for all kinds of fashion terms. If you are a fashion buff or professional designer, this will make a great addition to the home library to fill in the gaps left by all the other great volumes, especially those that sacrifice some text to maximize the photos. Influential couteriers, footwear, textile types, armor, sleeve shapes, outerwear, gloves, jewelry, dye origins, military accessories, fashion pioneers, ethnic garments, special occasion accessories, mourning attire, hats and gloves, geographical sources for new weaves, evolution of the crinoline, and collar shapes of the ages are all covered. No pronunciations, but each definition does indicate the country/region of origin, masuline/feminine gender and the era in which it became common. Sadly, the compiler died after completing the text but before inserting all the illustrations she had intended to include. Had she lived to round out her project, it would have rivaled Boucher for completeness. This is not a light read, even so. A few explanations of origin are the only quasi-conversational items. The bulk of the book is pure information, with abbreviated sentences and just enough adjectives. A 2-page list of related readings and a helpful 3-page internation listing of museums with costume collections append the definitions. Not the first book to purchase for your fashion history library shelf, but a very good supplement to the photographical records.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent reference for the whitewater enthusiast........1998-09-08
Mssrs. Walbridge and Sundmacher cover the subject of whitewater rescue well. It is geared toward the recreational boater, but is also a valuable tool for the public safety officer (police, sheriff, fire/rescue,SAR, ranger, etc.). It does not cover reading whitewater, since assumes the reader is already a boater of some sort. It does present the most common problems and solutions. In addition it covers use of the tools needed to safely execute timely rescues. Easy reading, excellent photographs and drawings illustrate the points well.
Customer Reviews:
GOOD BOOK-I'd recommend it to any Mike Aulby fan.......1998-03-12
The book had a lot of good information-I think it could have gone more into depth on what it's like out on tour. How the pressure effects the players more, how they survive out there-or don't. I think alot of what was said was repeated by different people in different parts of the book-granted alot of people that deal with Mike have a lot of the same good memories, but I think there was too much repetition in some parts. I wish Mike had gone more into detail what he was feeling when he shot his first 300-I had my first this year-and I could tell you heartbeat by heartbeat what it was like. Overall I liked the book-now my 10 year old son is reading it. My family are all fans of Mike Aulby-and have met him in person.

Book Description
In this gripping story, wrestling dominates the lives of two young men. Ivan Korske and Bobby Zane come from very different backgrounds--yet they both have the drive, determination, and commitment of a champion. And both are determined to have successful wrestling seasons despite having to grapple with their own demons.
But their personal problems won't matter when these two teens meet on the mat to compete for the title of New Jersey State Wrestling Champion. Both Ivan and Bobby have put in grueling hours of practice, endured intense hunger to cut weight, and sacrificed themselves for the sport they love--but only one of them is destined to win.
Customer Reviews:
Real Situations in a Wrestling Experience.......2007-01-17
Pinned, a novel by Alfred C. Martino tells the story of two wrestlers and the challenges they must overcome to become a champion. The first of the two teens introduced is Ivan Korske. Ivan comes from a poverty stricken town whose only hope it to earn a scholarship to leave his current life behind. Second is Bobby Zane who is facing family and relationship problems unlike any he has faced before. The story peeks into the life of a wrestler. You learn about cutting weight, long tiring practices and the pressures to succeed.
Throughout the novel, it's apparent that Alfred Martino has a true natural writing ability and knowledge of wrestling. But through all the talent and knowledge the novel still lacks many things, including and appropriate ending. Most of the book is spent building up to one match, the state finals, yet the story ends with no outcome. If there was a sequel then the current ending would have been perfect, leaving the reader wanting more, but since there was no other book the ending was a let down.
Even though the ending was a disappointment, overall the book was pleasing. I was able to relate the book and the struggles of both characters faced. I come from a wrestling background of 11 years and have struggled to make weight and deal with the pressure just like those in the book.
Awesome Realism.......2006-04-23
"Wrestling devotees will appreciate the work ethic of Ivan and Bobby as they perfect their moves throughout the season. Those readers who have not previously been exposed to the mat sport will be amazed at Martino's vivid descriptions of a wrestler's total devotion: the sultry, sweating practices, the workouts and running after practice, and the dieting. It is a committed wrestler's daily routine in his quest for a state championship... and every bit of it is authentic."
Read with caution: There be spoilers here!!!.......2006-03-25
SPOILER: I'm a woman who has absolutely no interest in wrestling, but this book held my attention due to some interesting character development. That being said...what was up with that ending??? The entire book builds up to the final wrestling match and we don't get to find out who wins?? I was in shock and yelling %$#@(*&^%$#. By the time you reach the end of the book, you have picked your favorite (Bobby was mine), but the reality is that one of the two kids HAD to win. SO WHICH ONE IS IT!
BTW..I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did a decent job.

Period 1
Ivan Korske, a promising young wrestler, with a short temper is on the Lennings High Wrestling team. Their school has been through a four season losing streak. He is no doubt, the best wrestler on his team, probably the best in the state. But, he is constantly torn with always losing the team matches. He was 22-0, never losing a single match. But, the whole season his team won only their last match. Bobby Zane, a rich boy who is also a promising young wrestler, has problems with his family. His mother and father divorce, and also, his girlfriend was supposed to be pregnant. His girlfriend ends up not being pregnant, and he is still torn by his parent's being torn. Both with the same talent, both with great wrestling talent, Zane and Korske are destined to meet each other in the 129 pound weight class State Finals. The book ends without telling who wins the match.
I liked most of the book, except for the ending. The ending was very elusive, and since he did not make a sequel I never can know what happened between Ivan and Bobby. The book itself was a wonderful book. I liked the way that the author was able to portray the hardships and the things that made wrestling a sport only people with dedication could do. I think that he could show it so well, because he, himself, was once a wrestler. He, as do many people of the sport, know all about the tough times of wrestling. Also, it did a good job of showing the life of a true teenager. It showed the pain of losing someone you love in the way that Ivan had lost his mother a few months before his senior year, season of wrestling began. It also showed how much a divorce can impact someone. Bobby's parents divorced in the middle of his season, and that's what really kept him from doing well; he worried about his parents too much. So, all in all, the book was great, but the ending really didn't satisfy me.
My least-favorite part of the book was the whole last chapter. It had done a great job of building up the right feeling of being anxious to find out who won the match, but, in the end, it just ended with, "And the state championship match at 129 pounds had begun...." It really killed it for me when the author couldn't even finish the story. It's like he fell asleep at the page, and decided not to write anymore. That really dissapointed it for me. I would have liked this book so much, if he had finished it. The book constantly reminded me, the reader, about the State Finals match, and how important it was to each wrestler. Yet, he didn't say how the outcome was. The last chapter was definitely my least favorite part of the book.
Realistic!.......2006-03-17
Anybody who has ever been involved with wrestling, parent or wrestler, will enjoy the realistic value of this fictional story that deals with the reality of being a high school wrestler.

Book Description
Rorke's Drift sums up some of the best traditions of the British self-image: steadfastness against the odds, victory in adversity and the thin red line. The British stand deserves to go down in history as one of the most heroic actions of all time. The story of a mere 150 British and Imperial soldiers defending an isolated outpost against over 3,000 Zulu warriors summed up the experience of the colonial adventure for the Victorians and remains part of our heritage even today. Ian Knight recounts the course of this famous conflict in which no less than 11 Victoria crosses were won.
Customer Reviews:
WRITTEN BY THE BEST!.......2007-09-11
I wanted a concise history of Rorke's Drift, and this book more than fit the bill. Ian Knight is the undisputed expert on the Zulu War's, so that is a bonus, as are the wonderful illustrations and photographs that Osprey books are known for. You can't go wrong with this one. It is a wonderful, informative read.
Great Information in a small space.......2006-04-01
This was a wonderful read, informative, concise and clear. The explanations of the cause of the war, the cause of this battle, the tactics used, the actual ebb & flow of the combat and the aftermath are all very well presented. The illustrations and photographs add quite well to the written information. If your only information on this battle comes from the movie Zulu, you really should pick this up and read it to get the real story, which is even more fascinating than the movie makes it out to be.
Excellent account of a hard fought battle.......2000-10-20
Ian Knight did an excellent job in presenting the famous battle of Rorke's Drift which pitted 150 British and Imperial Soldiers against over 3000 battle trained and tested Zulu warriors. Knight describes the circumstances that led to the battle beginning with the British having posts far within Zulu territory (present day South Africa) and having failed peace treaties between the British Crown and Zulu Kings. These treaties between the British Empire and Zulu Nation began with the great King Shaka Zulu and newly crowned Queen Victoria, and as such previous times the British Empire wanted more land subjegated under their influence. Thus began the trouble. This book describes the background of this and also tells about the British loss at Isandlwana which is considered one of the worst defeats in British History. The battle at Rorke's Drift was fought due to one of the Zulu nobility wanting his warriors to fight and taste blood without realizing the tremendous loss of warriors would take place. The British and its Imperial Forces (Boers, and non Zulu tribesmen) did an outstanding job by defending the Rorke's Drift Outpost and thus gaining immortal glory. This is an outstanding book that is highly recommended to those who want to read about overcoming tremendous odds and bravery at all levels of both the British and Zulu Warriors.
An excellent book to initiate anyone into the Anglo-Zulu War.......1999-07-13
This book is highly recommended for anyone who wishes to acquaint themselves with battles of Isandlwana, and especially, Rorke's Drift. The author gives a brief history of the British presence in South Africa that led to the events of 22-23 January, 1879. Knight gives a detailed and accurate account of the battle at Rorke's Drift using battlefield drawings showing the movement of both troups, British and Zulu. The author also does a good job of disspelling many myths that have surrounded the battle for years. An added plus is the vast array of vintage photos of many of the key players in the Anglo-Zulu campaign. For anyone that wants to get a short(96 pages), concise, detailed history of Rorke's Drift, you will never need more than this book.
Dispells some myths.......1999-05-20
I enjoyed the book as it corrected some of the inconsistencies shown in the movie and fact from hollywood's license.

Product Description
Cruiserweight wrestler Synn couldn't believe how lucky he was to be recruited by the number one wrestling promotion in North America. Especially when his hero from childhood, the champion Renegade, takes a special interest in him. In time Synn learns he was only brought into the company because Renegade desired him. If he wants to succeed he has to submit to Renegade. If this wasn't bad enough Synn learns little by little that Renegade has a dark past when it comes to his former lovers. Synn walks a tightrope between pursuing his wrestling ambitions, and trying not to become Renegade's next victim

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!.......2007-02-20
Alright, I absolutely loved this one. I bought it thinking I was going to be horribly disappointed as I'm not really one for big beefy boys doing yaoi things but this one was the outstanding exception. I couldn't put it down. Not only that, I've read it several times since. An absolute MUST for Yaoi fans!!!
Yaoi But (it's a joke, son).......2006-07-25
I bought 'Pinned' in spite of the cover, because I wanted to support yaoi publishers, but regretted the purchase. It is also important to signal publishers that content matters. Supporting bad yaoi leads publishers to believe we will buy anything with "yaoi" on the cover.
In this case the combination of coerced sex and Hitchcockian plot are painful. (Do I get credit for two double entendres?) There is not enough erotic content to warrant the yaoi label. It is a textbook case of sexual harassment. (Not to be confused with the famous yaoi title "Boku no Sexual Harassment" which is quite erotic.)
Discerning yaoi readers may wish to pass on this one.
The story floored me.......2006-02-24
I wasn't expecting too much from Pinned! originally, but once I picked it up I couldn't put it down. The relationship between Synn and Renegade is as hot as it is dangerous. The twist ending has only left me breathless for more. This is my favorite tale from Yaoi Press so far.
An improbable and boring tale of man rape........2006-01-30
I hated this book. I don't consider it a yaoi title, it's more like a suspense thriller that just happens to have a few pages of man rape thrown in. It's about a psychopath wrestler who molests a younger wrestler. It's boring, makes you uneasy and the twist at the end is just plain stupid. The characters are really 2 dimensional and you are never able to sympathise with the hero. The rape/sex scenes don't last more than a page and everything is covered up. Don't waste your money on this awful book, go buy "Brother" by Yuzuha Ougi instead.
Really good plot.......2005-12-01
I really liked this manga because it created a love story that wasn't gushy, but was still very touching. As well, I loved the whole "in the dark" thing about Renegade or how Synn's friend wasn't quite what he seemed either. I look forward to part two! Oh and again, very nice and consistent art!
Book Description
Reading through the book of Psalms is like going through one of God's jewelry drawers. The Psalms paint a true picture of all human emotions--from sadness, anger, fear, longing, and confusion, to praying, resting, rejoicing, singing, and laughing. They offer God's help and blessings for any and every situation and emotion of life. In the lovely pages of
Beautifully Pinned Promises, a woman will discover truths of God that will poignantly touch her heart and provide her with promises to hold on to and call her own.
Customer Reviews:
Beautifully Pinned Promises is BEAUTIFUL inside and out!!!.......2006-07-23
This book and the others in its series are beautifully done!!!! The words inside are inspiring and life-giving, making them priceless and precious gifts for someone else, or for yourself. If you love the Psalms you will fall in love with this book. Mary Grace Birkhead has a unique and refreshing way of encouraging hearts through the word of God. Thank you!

This Audiofy audiobook chip packs Mark Shanahan's full 7 hour reading of "Pinned: A Novel" on a tiny memory card. A single Audiofy audiobook chip, hardly larger than a stamp, holds a complete digital audiobook, and saves the last listening position automatically, unlike CDs. Audiobook chips also move seamlessly to most Palm OS and Pocket PC handheld PDAs with SD expansion slots, as well as Treo and Windows Mobile "smartphones" (Palm OS 5.2 or Windows Mobile 2002 and above)... Pinned follows Ivan Korske and Bobby Zane, high school seniors, in a quest for the New Jersey state high school wrestling championship. For Ivan, a state championship fulfills a promise he made to his mother before she passed away and will, perhaps, stem his father's continued withdrawal from life. Despite distractions from the pressures of adolescent love, Bobby realizes the coveted title may be his only hope for salvation. AUTHOR: Wrestling has been a part of Alfred C.
