All European.......2007-07-08
Covers a lot of watches, from very expensive through Swatch, but all European. No mention of either American classics or the high end Japanese watches, to me a bit of a disappointment.
Don't think I'd call it the "ultimate" guide, but..........2007-06-15
It's a great book for the price.

Great for Newbies! Porn is So Much Better Today!.......2006-08-07
As someone who has been recommending intimate videos to my girlfriends for years, I was anxious to see what I might learn from Violet Blue's, `The Ultimate Guide to Adult Videos.' As it turns out - if you're an experienced porn watcher - not much! (More on why not later.) But if you're a newbie, this book actually has a lot to offer!
For those of you who might be hesitant to watch porn, this book offers many reassurances, such as - people who watch porn are NOT compulsive masturbators, or - porn watchers DO enjoy regular sex with their partners, and, most significantly - watching porn will NOT affect your ability to have a meaningful relationship but, in fact, it might do just the opposite! (Hear, hear!)
On the positive side, the book also provides many GOOD reasons for watching porn, such as - to satisfy one's curiosity (and to expand one's horizons), as education, as entertainment before (or during) sex, or quite simply - to get off! On this last point, Violet offers a lot of encouragement particularly to women - to allow themselves to masturbate while watching porn - which, for men, is only second nature (like breathing)! Lastly, for couples, this tome does review the sensitive issue of how to view porn with a partner - especially when one partner is reluctant. (Luckily, my husband has never had this problem!)
Violet also reassures us - that it's not always necessary to attempt (in one's own bed) everything we might see in porn - and that it's ok for certain types of action to remain in the realm of `fantasy.' In fact, one of porn's strongest roles - is to dimensionalize (add realism) to our sexual fantasies. So even if your boyfriend watches some of the raunchiest porn imaginable - that doesn't require you to try it (or even admit to liking it, even if you do) - so long as he's able to separate fantasy from reality (which most men are surprisingly able to do.)
Probably the most useful sections of the book deals with the types of porn available, such as - feature films, educational videos, all-sex videos (all sex, no plot), to name just a few - as well as my favorite, girl/girl -- which is sometimes called lesbian videos, even though most of the performers are not true lesbians. So if you're unsure of what to watch, this book can add structure to the sometimes bewildering array of porn that's available.
On the downside, this book was published in 2003 -- just a few years ago - but a long time, unfortunately, in porn years! As a result, most of the movie titles it recommends - which make up about 2/3rds of the book - may be difficult, if not impossible, to find today (unless one looks in the classics or marked-down sections). Fortunately, some of the directors, studios, and series listed -- may still be around in some later incarnation.
There's also very little mention of one of the hottest new genres - gonzo -- in which the director interacts (verbally) with the actors -- which saves cost, since there's no script and no rehearsing - but results in some of the hottest, most spontaneous action you'll ever see on screen.
For the experienced porn watcher, this book also seriously dates itself by pointing out that the most prevalent and brazen type of (male) climax available at the time - were facials (an ejaculation served across a woman's face) - which are as useless and degrading back then as they are today! (Ladies, honestly, how often have you asked your lover to do this for you? If you're like me - how about NEVER!) Let's get real!
Fortunately, achieving a climax within a woman's body (on screen) is much more accepted and commonplace in porn today - which makes the action more realistic, more romantic - and much more emotionally satisfying to watch! (It's about time!)
As another nit, the book sadly has only a brief chapter on lesbian and girl/girl videos, which is a shame. And it mixes them with bi-videos (where the men do it with both men and women) which have an entirely different audience and a much more limited appeal.
Luckily, the author, Violet Blue, has a new book coming out, `The Smart Girls Guide to Porn,' which sounds well targeted - since its women who will probably seek out this type of info, especially in a book!
As a happily married (bisexual) female, here are my suggestions for what I'd like to see included in her new book - which this present edition was sorely lacking:
There are now genres of porn - which explore the lovingness of every orifice (such as oral and anal) - and the creative after-climax uses for a man's output (such as swallowing, swapping, and cream pies which is the oozing of ejaculant out of the orifice where it was deposited, plus other combinations of the above).
The natural eroticism of girl/girl should be more strongly highlighted - especially for women. In my own experiences, I've yet to meet a girl who doesn't like to watch two cute babes making love to each other. And I've also found that a woman's enjoyment of porn will increase tremendously - after she discovers girl/girl, which only makes sense since porn is about women - and women have always had an appreciation for the beauty of the fairer sex. (Said differently, it's harder to believe that porn exploits women, and to restrict one's own enjoyment - when pretty girls can now be an object of desire - for both men and women!)
Needless to say, a section of the book should be added to reassure MEN - that watching girl/girl videos will NOT turn their girlfriends or wives into lesbians! (Take it from me -- they won't!) Unfortunately, the most common reason I've found to explain why some women DON'T watch girl-only videos - is because their men don't (yet) approve. Fortunately, that attitude is quickly changing.
I didn't say this earlier, but back in 2003 - it was also taboo to mix boy/girl and girl/girl action - in the same scene. The thinking was (and still is) that guys will be turned off. But one of my favorite type of videos today is girl/girl/boy threesomes, where the girls are free to make love to each other early on (usually in the segment's opening) - and later all throughout the scene - even after their guy has joined in, which is pretty heady stuff!
As further expansion, the nastiest and most romantic of these girl/girl/boy threesome titles are probably more easily recognized under the `swapping' genre where the girls do just that orally with their lover's output - which, for me, is a great heterosexual reassurance - which allows the intimacy of the girl/girl action to go even higher! (As a watch-out, these videos are probably better suited to the more advanced porn watcher - but they are items which I suggest quite often - to my girlfriends who really enjoy porn!)
In conclusion, Violet Blue's `Ultimate Guide to Adult Videos' offers some timeless advice to overcome one's hesitation when it comes to watching porn. The plethora of videos it recommends, though - are hopelessly out-of-date! Fortunately, porn just keeps getting better and better - for both men and women! Enjoy.
more than just a review book.......2004-06-08
This is the ultimate consumer guide to porn and it's perfect for women and couples. The female perspecitve is utmost here and it shows you how to steer clear of low quality and female degredation while still finding really hot porn. This is an encyclopedia of modern adult film and nothing has been left out. History, backstories, profiles on interesting people in the business, lots of women-made erotic films and even softcore and mainstream titles are covered here. Nice sections on finding and selecting porn to suit individual's tastes. This book is a welcome relief and is intelligent, funny and free of the usual judgement and stigma in other porn writing. Blue treates porn like an independent film genre, and it's about time.
Great Book!.......2003-10-08
I had no idea the spectrum of videos available until I read this book. It's also the perfect book if you want to get a video to watch with your lover and tells you how to introduce the idea to them. Plus it tells you who the good filmmakers are. Comprehensive and highly recommended.
Refreshing.......2003-10-01
I always thought I would watch adult movies if only there were any good ones! I was never very excited about adult movies but I am a fan of the author, and the video guide is not only her best book to date but made me want to go out and rent some of these movies. As a woman I am used to being insulted by adult movies, but the guide is written by an intelligent woman and she's pointed the way for me to find hot movies, and her recommendations have been right on the mark. She gives the reader a guide with which they can make informed decisions about what they do and do not want to watch. How refreshing.
funny and smart.......2003-09-30
This is a great book! My girlfriend and I love it, and she's now happily put herself in charge of renting our videos. Violet Blue's tone is warm, funny, and excited about sex and adult videos, and she takes no prisoners in her hilarious video reviews. There are hundreds of films in this book and she explains how to find the good stuff. My girlfriend liked where Blue explained how to avoid seeing things that are offensive and we cracked each other up reading the "porn glossary" out loud to each other. It's nice to see a guide that takes us readers and porn watchers seriously. It's a great book for us couples. Don't read it alone! Thank you Violet Blue!

Book Description
You've never used a video guide like this before.
You loved Chariots of Fire and you want to see something like it. Where do you start? Look up Chariots of Fire in the index, and find it in Drama. There you'll see it listed under White Flannel Films:
Welcome to the glory days of the British empire when the ruling class rode horses on large country estates, servants were in plentiful supply, and only an adulterous lover questioned the status quo. As in other costume dramas, the period details are celebrations of all that was brilliant and luxurious, with the camera sweeping over British, Indian, or African countryscapes and exquisite turn-of-the-century interiors. But all this lush upholstery doesn't cover up the intelligent, thoughtful stories -- usually based on Lawrence, Forster, and Waugh novels -- played by stellar British actors.
In White Flannel Films there are concise, witty reviews of select movies like
A Room with a View
A Passage to India
Heat and Dust
The Shooting Party
Out of Africa
White Mischief
and more
There is also a unique ratings system that helps you distinguish the bombs from the sleepers. But the key is that all these films offer the same kind of viewing experience -- if you like one, chances are good you'll like the others, too.
Seen That, Now What? is your own personal video genius, who knows everything about movies and exactly what you like to watch.
Customer Reviews:
Disappointing ..........2000-06-30
"Seen that" wins my vote for the most disappointing video guide currently available on the market.
If you liked "When Harry Met Sally", wouldn't you expect to find a list of additional highly rated romantic comedies? Right? Wrong!
Many of the "Now What" selections are lowly rated films from the same genre. I was amazed to find films sporting D and C- ratings as viewing suggestions alongside the winners.
In my opinion, if you're looking for the cream of the crop in movie guides, The TLA Film and Video Guide 2000-2001, would make a far better choice.
"Seen That, Now What?" is now quickly and quietly on its way to my local used book store - where it belongs.
Hands-down the best film guide in print.......1999-08-11
As a die-hard film buff, I am tough to please when it comes to video guides. I've got them all, Maltin, Halliwell, Kael, Ebert, Baseline, etc., but the one I use the most is SEEN THAT, NOW WHAT. Not only is the system of categorization brilliant, but the capsule reviews themselves are uncommonly astute. They also have a system of symbols to help classify each film (classic, visually interesting, for buffs only, etc.) that puts the "star" system to shame.
Interesting, fun, a handy book for quick capsule reviews.......1998-12-05
Lot's of movies reviewed. Interesting book for thinking about genres. Sometimes things get lumped together in odd ways. My only pet peeve with the book is that the actor and director indexes only list page numbers, not movie titles. For example, when you flip to pages 238, 267, 389 and 403 to see what movie starred Amy Irving, you are confronted with 20 or more capsule reviews per page. Ferreting out which one(s) have Irving in it is a major headache. But if you already know a title, that index works great.
This video guide, like a wonderful travel guide, lets you explore and then locate an exciting movie on your own!.......1996-07-01
This video guide opens up a whole new universe. For the first time someone has mapped-out a birdseye view of the entire world of movies. It may only include 5400 films, but it has chosen films that are available at most video stores and are considered the most representative (good and bad) of their genre. The guide arranges films chronologically and according to genre/look/tone and sometimes actor and director. It's so easy to use, almost like using the yellow pages. Finally, it's got a unique writing voice that clearly and entertainingly reviews the movies (plus identifying which films are gold standards, classics, visual spectacles etc. by use of icons) This will change the way people browse for movies

Book Description
They are memoirs like you've never read before. As broadcaster and pitchman, John Madden has been inside the locker rooms, broadcasts booths, and in front of the camera doing what he does best--being himself. He's seen an awful lot and he wrote a book to prove it. Hey, wait a minute, you'll love it!
Customer Reviews:
Hey, wait a minute, I wrote a book.......2005-12-14
This book was about John Madden life when he was a coach. It talks about how after ten years of coach the Oakland Raiders. The book also talks about when he was playing football in high school and college and also when he got darfted to the NFL but during summer camp he tore his ACL and could not play football. It talks about how he started broadcasting for CBS. So throuhgout the book it talks his live and the thing he went through to get to where he was and where he is today.
Heýs Madden as hell and heýs not going to take it anymore.......2003-10-16
not to be confused with the book '"Hey, Wait a Minute!": Dealing With Feelings and Weight Control" John Madden's first published work deals with all sorts of issue from feelings to weight control. but instead of dealing with those issues on a psychiatrist's couch, it deals with them where they belong -- on the savage gridiron of the football field. if you're looking for some game where little virtual men run all over your t.v. screen, then look elsewhere, because while Madden has become synonymous with his namesake video football, before that he was eponymous with actual football and the playing and coaching thereof. madden's gee-whiz enthusiasm makes the world of football (playing, coaching, the superbowl, broadcasting, beer commercials, groin pulls) shimmer with the scintillating shine of the frill on a cheerleader's hotpants. madden even expresses astonishment at the fact that he wrote a book, even though one `dave anderson' appears somehow to have been involved. but make no mistake (or throw the red flag if you do), madden's outsized personality (not to mention figure!) comes through on every page, and if you can't help crack a smile at his endless logical positivism and ebullience, then you're probably a twisted, horrible person who enjoys baseball. hey wait a minute! I wrote a review!
It sux.......2002-02-05
This book sucks, HARD. After a few chapters i burned it. Can you find a crapier title. There is only one good thing about this book is it burns nice and toasty.
TOUCHDOWN.......2001-09-02
JOHN MADDEN SCORES BIG WITH THIS BOOK. IT IS VERY HUMOROUS, INTERESTING, AND TO THE POINT. I ENJOYED THE REHASHING OF HIS DAYS WITH THE RAIDERS. ALSO HIS EXPERIENCE WITH THE LITE BEER COMMERCIALS IS VERY FUNNY. HIS INSIGHT AND EXPERIENCE IN THE BROADCASTING WORLD MAKE THIS BOOK A VERY ENJOYABLE EXPERIENCE. A MUST READ FOR ANY FAN OF FOOTBALL AND THE RAIDERS. TOUCHDOWN JOHN MADDEN!
John Madden writes just like he talks!!!.......1999-05-27
He even sounds excited in print! Madden clearly loves the game of football, and his exuberance is evident throughout this book. His stories and anecdotes from both his coaching and broadcasting days are both hilarious and insightful. My own favorite part of this book were his reminisces of his days with the Raiders, when he coached that team to their first Superbowl victory. He really makes you feel like you were there!

Book Description
One of Europe's most exciting young cartoonists makes his American debut.
This superbly evocative graphic novella by the award-winning Norwegian cartoonist Jason (his first appearance in the English language) starts off as a melancholy childhood memoir and then, with a shocking twist midway through, becomes the summary of lives lived, wasted, and lost. Like Art Spiegelman did with Maus, Jason utilizes anthropomorphic stylizations to reach deeper, more general truths, and to create elegantly minimalist panels whose emotional depth-charge comes as an even greater shock. His sparse dialogue, dark wit, and supremely bold use of "jump-cuts" from one scene to the next (sometimes spanning a number of years) make Hey, Wait... one of the most surprising and engaging debuts of the year.
Customer Reviews:
Jason Comics.......2007-03-19
I'll have to say that this artist has a way with the graphic art form that I feel few others have demontrated thus far in the genre. The sincerity conveyed through simplicity in order to portray a wonderful series of elements that characterise the human condition is refreshing...not to mention that zombies, mummies and monsters in general NEED to be in our lives!
Wonderful "lump-in-throat" story!.......2005-12-27
I just found a first edition of this wonderful story and I must say that after reading Dylan Horrock's small quote on the rear cover I was quite interested.
I lost my childhood friend to suicide three years ago and this story, while not similar in that fate, really helped me see what I have been holding inside. Guilt is a terrible suitcase, one not easily discarded, but it's nice to see no one is alone.
I knew little of the book before literally stumbling onto it and I am very glad I did. It now sits in my large collection of comics and such and will be one of my favorite conversation pieces in my local comic shop in weeks to come. I highly recommend it to all!
Excellent........2005-09-13
Jason, Hey, Wait... (Fantagraphics, 2001)
Graphic novel artist Jason made a huge splash with this slim volume when it first came out a few years back. It's pretty easy to see why; with a minimum of dialogue and a ot of abstraction, Jason paints a deeply affecting pastiche.
The story concerns two childhood friends who decide to start a fan club. While they're planning out the initiation, something goes horribly wrong, and the rest of the book deals with one friend's lifelong reaction to a life-changing event.
Hey, Wait... is unflinching. If you haven't yet come to the world of graphic novels, this is a great place to start; even the toughest critics of graphic novels, I should think, would be hard-pressed to deny the emotional power of this little tale (and it certainly puts to bed the idea that all comics are for kids). **** ½
accurate, true-to-life GN; Jason talented; must buy.......2003-09-17
"Hey, Wait.." TP, is a book conceived and drawn both by Jason. This terse graphic novella uses no words, but all-pantomine.It is an allegorical genre, tackling by stretching out gradually the life of a young boy leading up, maturing & his becoming of a young man.
My givings of this short precis` is about two pubescent boys spending jovially on one of there school summer vacations. The twosome literally smell the happy air of there school-free environment, exuberantly eating the ticking time heedfully the rest of there holliday lives, & they just simply wallow the concurrent moments of what in store for them during these cherished times. However one day, a fortutious event diverges the path they both tread for the rest of there lives permanently. The other one simply could not accept the happenstance what predestined by fate. So he cope with it antipathetically as his life sinks spirally to the toilet, & as well, he tries to endure this guilt for the remainder of his adult life.
Essentially, this comic book is broken down to two halves. The first chapter is all about exploring fully the childhood lives of these two young boys. While the latter half shown us by sifting through the lives of the protagonists & that wretched and tragedic repercussions. By the way, this book utilizes anthropomorphic characters or in other words, uses animals as oppose to humans as way to smoothly deliver the story as what the author intended it to be.
Jason is a very talented & well-rounded comic book creator. he artfully etched out the story to life with his true-to-life and accurate rendition of diverse & realistic emotions of each circumstances upon dictated spontaneously by the story itself. The story turns out very profound in the dimensions of emotions and rich in psychological dealings,at least in reference to subtle, not blatant aspects. Likewise, the story is very poignant, dark & melancholic, heartbreaking and ultimately, heart-rending.
However, the grandest talent of Jason based by critique-ing this work, is his ability to leverage panels to his pluses per page (6 panels a page). He skillfully by fully delineating lucidly the essences to fruition such as those articulated prior, such as the psychological, emotional, and allegorical ranges. Most of the times, his panels do not even show people nor any interactions, neither a situation at all.Ironically, merely illustrated a tree or any object for that matter & completed, then presenting to us, only the tree & its environment for example, for all 6 panels, with the author sole purpose to starkly immersing the reader to every inch of significant emotions & other nuances of what Jason deemed neccessary & clever.
This slender graphic novella constitutes only for 64 pages, all in B&W & comic book format, softbounded & with sturdy frontage cover. A good buy and a "must own".
A bonafide, quasi literary piece of work. In the same breath alongside "Maus" by. Art Spiegelmann; "Four Women" by. Sam Kieth; "To the Heart of the Storm" by. Will Eisner & " A Jew in Communist Prague" by. Vittorio Giardino.
Highly recommended for story, price and Jason.
Clever and simple.......2003-08-30
Jason's comic coming-of-age story has many gems. His simplistic style and steady pacing with the use of the same comic panels on every page forge a universe made of a very personal visual language. The lines between adulthood and childhood are clearly drawn (so to speak): adults are tired, working-class that rarely smile as they tread the streets on stilts; the two kids in the story have boundless imagination and their world is populated by undead bullies and comic monsters.
The second part does not read as cleverly as the first, though done with the same care. The symbolism of the first half is only seen when the main character hits his lowest ebb. Its not clear why this character is made to suffer so much as his guilt succumbs to an unsatisfying life. Jason's very linear narrative could have used a little more complexity on this end but is otherwise a work that strikes a dark chord in regards to lost innocence and lost life and the parallels between the two.

Book Description
This is a book of "stopping points" on the path of life. It puts into words those things that either worry us, take us aback, or things at which we are totally aghast, especially the aging process. The book is the revelation that life seems to come in decades rather than years to people approaching "senior hood." These humorous pages have a sting of truth and yet a comforting poignancy in them.

Life in general and funny.......2001-10-11
Hey,Wait a Minute appeals to me since Dee and I could be contemporaries. I am where she is and even though our fears and phobias are different ones, hers make sense.
I laughed and enjoyed myself and realized that after each one, she had said a true thing and done it in a kind and funny way. Do read it. You will like it if you are a wife or a senior citizen or a woman.. Now doesnt that fit a lot of people.
Hey! You're going to love this book!.......2001-09-02
Though not old enough to "qualify" for many of the experiences in this book, (I'm ONLY 40), I loved it none-the-less. After all, when was the last time you heard of someone truly describing their reaction to seeing a rhino's "winkie"? I thank Ms. Logan for letting me know what I'm in for and that I can face it with grace and humor. It will make great Christmas presents for my friends and family.
My 78 year old mother-in-law also loved the book and has requested I order copies for two of HER friends, proving this is an inter-generational delight. Her favorite things were those that showed she wasn't the only one to...................
Get the book and set aside a rainy afternoon, or leave it in the bathroom and enjoy it a page at a time. You'll laugh out loud before you reach the end and will look forward to the next book in what I hope will be a long, long series.

Madden is Football.......2006-12-14
Madden is football. John Madden was a good NFL player, a good coach, and now a funny football commentator. I liked this book because it was funny, I respect Madden, and that he has respect for everyone around him.
This book is really funny. One example is that once Madden stopped coaching, he was watching a Raider's game with a friend. The team playing the Raiders made a fatal mistake, they knocked Kenny Stabler( the Raider's quarter-back) flat on his butt. Even though the Raiders were down 24-7 Stabler threw four touchdown passes in the fourth quarter to win the game 28-24.
Secondly, I respect John Madden. He is just a really cool guy. He is so cool that he has been on television, hosted a radio show, wrote a book about his life so far, and has his own video game series. Also, he knows how to do his job whatever it is.
Finally, he respects everyone around him. He respects his players, his assistant coaches, other NFL players, other coaches even if he doesn't like them, NFL officiols, and pretty much everyone else. He will joke around with other people but he stops if it starts to go too far.
So I told you that I like this book because I respect Madden, he respects everyone around him, and because of the fact that this book is funny. I recommend this book to anyone that likes to read and that also know something about football.
