Basic and necessary.......2003-10-17
This is a standard reference work. Its value does not lie in its estimations of values, but in the well-chosen range of coins shown and identified, and in its long-time use by scholars and numismatists as a comparative tool (giving the Sear # for coins to identify them is standard practice in the field).
A bit disappointing . . ........2000-05-17
For how much the name "Sear" comes up in connection to ancient coins, I had very high expectations for this book. Unfortunately, they weren't quite met.
In the edition that I own (2nd), there are not very many illustrations, except at the end of the book. The rest of the pictures are just drawings of the coins. I do not know if this was remedied in later editions, though I don't think that it was.
Also, the prices (in British Pounds) are given in just one grade of each coin.
Still, one can judge from the prices the relative rarity of the coin. Add that to the fact that this is the book that EVERYONE refers to, that that in itself makes it quite valuable.
A very brief history is given on each emperor or wife. There also are additional histories on certain periods of Roman history (The Tetrarchy of Diocletian, for example), which are both helful and interesting. Equally important is the quick overview of Roman coins found in the beginning of the book.
Sear will cost you a chunk of money, and while quite helpful, it won't answer your every question. Still, if you are collecting Roman coins, you need this book, if for no other reason than that everyone else has it and will quote it.
This book is a classic, but a poor guide to coin values........1999-04-25
David Sear is probably the best known living authority on ancient coins, especially Roman coins. If a collector only owned one book on Roman coins, this would be the one. However, the values reported in his book for coins (supposedly those that grade approximately "Very Fine") only roughly correlate with market prices. Coin dealers often like to quote prices from Sear's book, especially if the book price exceeds the normal market value.
The essential one volume guide to Roman coins.......1998-08-09
Though it is impossible to contain all the Roman coins in a single volume, this is the best single book on coins and their approximate values (given in British pounds).

If you want to learn all about your Rebel XT camera, this is the book to buy. If you are happy with the manual, then you may not need this book.
great camera manual.......2007-04-13
After reading some of the other reviews, I was hesitant to buy this book. I did anyway, and found it to be exactly what I was looking for - a book on how to use this camera to it's fullest. If this is what you're looking for, then buy this book.

This is a must if you have the camera. Like I've read, the instruction manual is lacking.....especially if you're a novice. I plan to buy one for my daughter who just now bought the camera. It answers a lot of questions.
Must have for XT users.......2007-03-13
Good book that goes in depth a lot further than the factory manual that comes with all XT cameras. Gives lots of detail and a no brainer when you consider the lost cost versus high value. You'll always keep this one in your bag, trust me.

I bought the camera and read through the manual, and found it informative, but then found this book which I feel is easier to use then the actual manual. It is the manual PLUS MUCH MORE. I no longer use the manual - I have this book. Highly recomended

Nicholas receives an invitation to Gino Carlo's villa outside of town. Neither man trusts the other and each warily decides if cooperate is possible. BANE AND CARLOS FINALLY MEET!.......2006-06-07
In the fourth installment of Jerry Cho's magnificent vampire odyssey Journal of the Vampire Hunter: Claws of Darkness, the hunter, Nicholas Bane has his first confrontation with the vampire drug lord Gino Carlos. Bane comes to Gino's villa in Santa Anna Mexico under the guise of joining his gang as hired muscle. Gino wants Bane to hunt down the werewolf that has been systematically killing his men over the first three issues in very grisly and gory fashion. Bane plays along with the game while trying to learn more about Carlos and his group. His first strike against Gino comes as the drug kingpin is off for a meeting leaving bane to battle Carlos' girlfriend, and fellow vamp Simone. Meanwhile, as Gino is attacked by rivals, he recalls his death years earlier and how a mysterious being turned him into a creature of the night.
The Journal of the Vampire Hunter: Claws of Darkness is one of the best kept secrets in Manga today. Rather than traditional digest-sized, this series is one in full comic book size on slick, glossy paper which only serves to enhance the lush artwork of Jerry Cho. No mention of this book is complete without talking about the bold colors as well. This is simply a gorgeous book! Now that Carlos knows that Bane is his mortal enemy it will be interesting to see how the story develops.

Though Father Gerardo flatly refuses and Anna resists with all her will, there is little they can do. Meanwhile, the monster committing the atrocious crimes they all feared has begun his hunt once more, killing one member after another from Gino Carlos' gang. Nicholas somehow manages to escape from the villa. Will he be able to stop Gino Carlos' master plan and rescue the beautiful Anna once more? Finally, all the mysteries are solved in the final show down between the hunter and the hunted.

THE FINAL PART TO THIS GOTHIC HORROR TALE.......2006-08-12
Journal of the Vampire Hunter Volume 5 brings the Claws of Darkness storyline to an exciting close as the Hunter Nicholas Bane squares off against vampire drug lord Gino Carlos, with the aid of the lycanthrope brother of Anna who is out for his, or its own revenge on Carlos and his gang. The conclusion is almost Shakespearian in scope, or perhaps Greek tragedy might be more apropos. The final half of this issue is a stunningly gorgeous, symphony of violence between the three inhuman combatants. Carlos comes to the battle in full plate armor carrying a lance no less! And even when you think the battle is over, it might not be quite over yet!
Put all five issues of Author/Illustrator Jerry Cho's work together and you have a modern masterpiece of gothic, manga horror in full, bold color. I've raved from the very first issue about just how fantastic Cho's artwork is and nothing in the final part will change that. Cho's art is a more mature and less cartoony Manga style that was the perfect fit for the title. If you have not checked out this title yet then you really have to pick it up off Amazon or the DrMaster books website. A real gem!

BLOODY GOOD FUN!.......2006-03-18
In the second volume of Journal of the Vampire Hunter: Claws of Darkness, we open with the half human/half vampire Bane fighting for his life against the ravaging beast who killed one of Gino Carlos' men in the first issue. It is only by the timely intervention of Anna, owner of the Azul Bar and Inn where Bane is staying, that the beast is driven away. Bane wonders what possible power that Anna could have over the beast as readers are treated to a grisly flashback where we meet Anna's fiancé Jubile and his sister and learn of the awful fate they suffered at the hands of Carlos' men some years earlier. Meanwhile Bane learns more about the town of Santa Ana, Mexico and confronts Anna's mother, a powerful vampire in a battle to the death.
Writer/Artist Jerry Cho continues to spoon feed readers more and more about the Dark History of Santa Ana and its inhabitants. The reason behind Anna's melancholy is revealed with the tragic events concerning Jubile and his sister and we also learn the connection between this, and the sudden appearance of the creature who is hunting down Carlos' men. Cho's art continues to be some of the most dynamic that I've seen in quite some time. He deftly moves from scenes of quiet tranquility to visceral attacks with beautiful skill. The mesmerizing, gothic cover depicting a portrait of Bane with his piercing eyes will make readers pick this book up on the strength of that cover alone. Fantastic work, produced on high quality glossy stock that Cho's use of color takes advantage of fully. I cannot wait to see more!

Jerry Cho's outstanding series Vampire Hunter: Claws of Darkness continues to weave its irresistible magic in this third issue of the slickly produced, Manga format comic in bold, full color. The action steps up a few paces as more information is revealed about the drub/crime lord Gino Carlos and the unyielding hold that he has on the small, sleepy Mexico border town of Santa Anna. Carlos was raised from a boy by the benevolent local priest Father Gerardo. Carlos disappeared to Columbia for a number of years before returning to Mexico as a changed man and now a ruthless drug lord and something more. Despite numerous attempts on his life, attempts that no ordinary man could possibly survive, Carlos has continued to thrive. All this is related to Nicholas Bane by father Gerardo.
But they may all change now with the arrival of the mysterious vampire hunter Nicholas Bane, who has been drawn to the town by the taint and smell of the creatures of the night. But Bane may not even be the worst threat facing Carlos. As we saw in the second issue, a ravaging, wolf-like beast has been systematically hunting down Gino's men and tearing them to shreds. Only the intervention of Anna manages to save Bane from the beast's attack as Bane will finally confront Gino in the latter stages.
Claws of Darkness is a beautifully produced comic/graphic novel series. It's printed on thick, glossy stock paper and the colors in the painted book by Jozev are dazzling. The comic-sized book is produced in traditional Manga format to be read from right to left. As a person who reads a lot of black & white Manga titles, it was nice to read one in full-color and a larger format than the more traditional digest-sized books. Check out the Dr. Master website if you can't find the book in stores. It's well worth the search!

Vampire Hunter Claws of Darkness Vol. 1 is a gorgeously illustrated series by Jerry Cho and from DrMaster Publications. In the first issue we meet the mysterious vampire hunter Nicholas Bane and learn about his tragic past. Born of both human and vampire, Bane's sole purpose is to hunt down and kill creatures of the night. This tireless quest brings him to the small town of Santa Anna, Mexcio, a quaint, sleepy town which houses many dark secrets. Bane, an American, is given a harsh welcome by the local toughs who don't want him around but he finds a sympathetic voice in Anna who runs a local inn called the Azul. When one of the local gang members turns up dead, literally torn to pieces by some horrible beast, Bane finds himself the suspect by the suspicious townspeople as well as the gang elements. Bane learns that the men work for a local drug lord named Gino Carlos who controls everything in the town including the mayor. Soon Bane begins to delve into the mysteries of Santa Anna to find out just what or who it is that drew him to the cursed town.
