Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.
Book Description
Jules Prown is renowned as a historian of American art and a pioneer in the study of material culture, a discipline that attempts to achieve a more profound understanding of individuals and societies using works of art as tangible evidence. This important book celebrates Prown's distinguished career, bringing together eighteen of his most influential essays, along with a new introductory chapter, an intellectual autobiography that explains the evolution of his life's work. The volume begins with theoretical essays that document Prown's thinking as a cultural art historian, followed by the presentation of a number of his finest writings on American art. These pieces focus on the work of key eighteenth-century American artists-Benjamin West, John Singleton Copley, Charles Willson Peale, and John Trumbull-who painted in England as well as in America, and on the work of such major nineteenth-century artists as Winslow Homer and Thomas Eakins. The essays reveal Prown's trajectory as an art historian: the earlier ones are examples of more traditional art historical methodology, as Prown investigates formalist and iconographic techniques, and the later ones demonstrate his developing interest in unpacking cultural meaning from objects. What results is a remarkable collection that clearly conveys the import of Prown's contribution to the study of American art and material culture.
Customer Reviews:
a treat for anyone who takes art seriously.......2005-02-08
If Hemingway had set out to explicate material culture theory, this would be it -- clear, straightforward prose dense with insight. One of the things Prown is best at is finding those objects, and cultural moments, that are especially pregnant -- the paintings and objects he writes about are not only visually intriguing, but also full expressions of the assumptions of their times. Read this book if you want to understand what Americans believe -- and how we got here.
Book Description
The centuries-old art of handwriting is practiced daily by millions, yet few have any idea of its history or the tools used in handwriting. In Pen, Ink, and Evidence, Joe Nickell traces the development of writing and writing materials from the ancient cuneiform tablet to today's ball-point-scribbled memo.
Nickell not only describes how ink, paper, pens, and pencils have been manufactured and used over the centuries, but also explores the history of such ancillary activities as learning calligraphy, cutting quill pens, deciphering old scripts, detecting forgeries, identifying watermarks, dating ink bottles, and reading faded manuscripts. He also traces the development of autograph collecting, describes how to identify inks, and offers sidelights on postage stamps, early typewriters, mourning stationery, fountain-pen fillers, and the evolution of the desk.
Richly illustrated from the author's own collection, the book includes photos of historic inkwells, traveling writing kits, pens of glass and gold, ink eraser knives, quill cutters, paperweights, letter openers, pen racks, and sealing-wax melters, as well as documents ranging from valentines and genealogical records to secret messages.
Pen, Ink, and Evidence is an essential text for calligraphers, archivists, literary scholars, historians, genealogists, collectors, document analysts, teachers of handwriting, and all others with an interest in writing and its accoutrements.
Customer Reviews:
Good Textbook for "Intro to Document Analysis".......2001-06-07
PEN, INK, & EVIDENCE is a good companion volume to Nickell's DETECTING FORGERY: FORENSIC INVESTIGATION OF DOCUMENTS. Like that work, it is apparently targeted towards the beginner (me) and NOT the practicing professional. For example, when an analysis technique is mentioned (and not all techniques are covered) Nickell tends not to go into elaborate detail on the actual practices. The chapter notes serve as a bibliography and are valuable leaping off points for more indepth research and understanding.
This book is divided into five major sections: (I) Writing Instruments, (II) Ink, (III) Paper, (IV) Writing, and (V) Examining Documents. There are three appendices covering (1) Eighteenth Century Scripts, (2) Chronology of Writing and Writing Materials, and (3) Laboratory Identification of Pens, Inks, & Papers.
Nickell has access to a huge array of relevant materials which are profusely included in black and white photographs throughout the book. The photographs are of fair quality and I assume that higher quality photos would result in higher price (duh).
Overall, I found it interesting, useful, and satisfyingly broad in subject coverage. Nickell's writing style is accessible and clear. The ubiquitous use of anecdotes is essential and entertaining. E.g., "Of course, one approach to duplicating security watermarks -- like those placed in prescription blanks for alchohol during Prohibition ... -- was simply to dupe a legitimate paper company intor producing paper bearing watermarks." -pg 85. I want to know more about alcohol prescriptions during Prohibition!

Old rice sacks as clothing.......2006-11-29
Like the food they eat, the clothes they wear help express a people's relationship to the rest of the world. But the clothing used by Japanese immigrants to Hawaii is now surprisingly scarce.
Work clothes were used until they wore out. Clothes for special occasions, usually hand-woven and sometimes made from rare fabrics like bashofu (an Okinawan specialty made from plantain fiber), were carefully preserved, but after World War II, AJAs (Americans of Japanese Ancestry) sent much of this back to relatives left destitute by firebombing.
Thus Barbara Kawakami, who grew up in a plantation camp on Oahu, had to search many years to find even a single example of once-common items like the kappa, a raincoat sealed with a mixture of linseed oil, turpentine and a fire-retardant.
But she persisted, interviewing some 250 old-timers, many of whom generously presented her with old clothes that allow one to actually feel part of what it was like to leave home -- usually an impoverished farm -- for a strange new land that was often equally impoverished, at least in the early years.
Many of the garments illustrated in 'Japanese Immigrant Clothing' have a story attached, sad, joyous, tragic or triumphant. Kawakami sometimes unwraps her mother's black montsuki, the garment worn at weddings and other most important events. 'Now, as I look at that faded montsuki,' she writes, 'with the hand-drawn design of pine, bamboo and plum on the hemline, I am grateful for the valuable lessons my mother passed on to me, which are literally "bearing fruit" in my lifetime. Yes, to receive a katami (Buddhist keepsake, personal belongings of a dead person, often clothing), no matter what it is, brings back fond memories of loved ones and how they taught us to live.'
For those who have no such memories, this book is also interesting for the sense of immediacy it gives to the little stories of the pioneers. Thus the bleached rice bags, which provided cloth for bento bags (the covers of the tin lunchbuckets the cane and pineapple workers carried into the fields) and school clothes, tell of poverty. But the elaborate traditional style wedding clothes, to which nisei daughters increasingly turned in the 1930s, tell of the growing success of the AJAs.
'The issei (first generation immigrant) parents, especially mothers, sacrificed much to dress their daughters in traditional bridal clothing,' writes Kawakami. 'Others took in washing -- sometimes after working 10 hours in the fields -- to make extra money . . . . A proper wedding gave issei parents a great deal of satisfaction: It linked their lives in the new land to their lives in the villages they had left behind in their youth.'
It is perhaps unfortunate that this book is called simply 'Japanese Immigrant Clothing,' because that does not tip the potential reader to the treasure trove of trivia about daily life and the simple but powerful human stories that Kawakami has assembled.

THE BEST SIMPSONS BOOK EVER MADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2005-04-17
This book is the best although it has only 6 comics (ten dollars for this book is cheaper than buying six comics!!!)the six comics which are in it are the craziest, wackiest, looniest and the greatest of all simpsons comics yet!!!!THIS IS A MUST BUY for simpsons lovers but BE WARNED this is the hardest simpsons book to find!!!
YES YES YES THIS ROCKS.......2003-09-04
this book rules the first story is a bit annoying carzy game shows, escaped criminals, famous pets, substitute teachers and find out which 2 students replace the teachers and find out who marrys maggie in the future(its Gerald the one eyebrowed baby) oh yeah u should buy this book NOW!!!
"Yeah! Another Look at the Simpsons' Future!".......2003-08-07
Seeing the cool cover artwork for this comic book (the Simpsons in straight jackets) I had high expectations for this book. At first, I thought I was going to be completely disappointed. The first comics are not very funny and almost as silly as the "Big Book of Bart" books. The first comic, "Journey to the Cellar of the Kwik-E-Mart" is annoying. It starts with a strange photo featuring such things as Lisa wearing a Squishzilla cup and a guy in a chicken outfit tied to the hood of a car and then takes the reader back in certain increments of time to explain the ending. I kept forgetting what the comic was about while reading it. The ending to "Tic Tac D'oh" is farfetched even by Simpsons' standards. In "The Prime of Miss Lisa Simpson," Bart has the teachers deported and the top students have to take over their classes (this one has some pretty funny moments). In "Hamburger's Little Helper," the Simpson dog gains stardom after biting Krusty the Klown in the butt. Sideshow Bob is released from prison only to start a crime school in "Angels with Yellow Faces." The true gem, however, is "The Rise and Fall of Bartholomew J. Simpson." If you enjoyed the episode "Lisa's Wedding" where Lisa gets a glimpse of her future, this comic is for you. Lisa visits Bart in the hospital and hears him utter two words. She then researches the past to find out what they mean and why an anonymous person donated a digestive tract to her ailing brother. This comic is hilarious and you will never guess who Maggie ended up marrying!! Another fun addition is John's (the gay guy in "Homer's Phobia") Cockamamies Collectible catalog which includes references to many past Simpsons episodes. The shorts feature Bartman, Poochie, and Mr. Sparkle (the latter being as odd as the character). The look at the Simpsons' future makes this comic book worthwhile.

The Day I Turned Uncool: Confessions of a Reluctant Grown-up
ASIN: 0380975556 |
Amazon.com
Humorist Dan Zevin--who adamantly insists that he "in no way" modeled his characters "Stan" and "Peg" after himself and his wife Meg--has compiled a belly-busting guide to the potential horrors of matrimonial planning. It's the perfect antidote for any engaged couple who has come to blows over the numerous and annoying details of planning their so-called perfect day.
Zevin offers much in the way of words of wisdom. He suggests an apt nickname for those stuck-up gift registry attendants: "cyborgs." He advises that for the benefit of the impending marriage, the groom's bachelor party should not include dalliances with women with names like Chestitty. He claims that if things progress the way they did for his "Peg," then each bride needs to allow for at least one gown fitting per pound of body weight. He also concedes that it's the bride who ultimately gets to pick where the reception will take place, so grooms should abandon all hope of influencing this decision.
Zevin's most ominous warning is that how no matter how career-oriented an engaged woman may be--even if she owns "four (4) briefcases" like Peg--she will be overcome by a giant force: her Inner Bride. This means she will suddenly and surreptitiously procure and pore through every 8,000-page issue of every bridal magazine possible. She'll make appointments at places like Madam Snootella's Bridal Boutique, where there's a 14-week wait for appointments, where the sales help reads Town and Country, and where the dresses all make her look like a giant piñata. Ladies, if you couldn't understand what exactly was happening to you, well, Zevin's demystified this scientific phenomenon that's worthy of being featured in an episode of In Search Of. And gentlemen, consider yourselves warned.
Beneath its humor, Zevin's book has a real message that should be well heeded by all Nearly-Weds: there's a difference between getting married ("You want to spend each and every moment together") and getting weddinged ("You spend each and every moment together trying to figure out which table senile Uncle Abe should sit at"). And remember, you can always elope. --Erica Jorgensen
Book Description
From the very beginning, you knew something was weird. On the first date, there were no awkward silences. No early warning signs of psychopathology on the second. By the third date, you were struck with a revelation: "We are actually having a third date!"
And now you're engaged! Together you've entered a strange new world of deranged caterers, militant photographers, and prima donna floristes. You lie awake each night pondering the Big Questions: "Sit-down or buffet?" "Band or DJ?" "Cash bar or open bar?" You find yourselves incapable of discussing anything non-nuptial, and you won't rest until you've registered for those perfect pewter grape scissors...
Are the two of you going nuts? No, you're just planning a wedding! And as you begin your new lives as Nearly-weds, keep one thing in mind: To have a successful marriage, all you need is trust, respect, and undying love. But to have a successful wedding, you'll need something a whole lot harder to sustain: a sense of humor. The Nearly-Wed Handbook will keep you laughing all the way down the aisle.

Worth reading one more time!.......2001-12-12
I finished reading the book in one day, and I felt ... enlightened and some what relaxed towards my wedding planning. (I was doing 99% of the planning!) But this was 6 months before my wedding, and I read it again just one month before. Again, the book has helped me to relieve some of the stress. Now, 8 months later, I looked back and I knew that day was wonderful. My friend is getting married next March, and I am recommending this book to them.
A PERFECT Shower Gift!.......2001-11-25
This hilarious book makes for THE perfect wedding shower gift! I should know having been to 13 showers in the past 13 months! It is a fun and unusual gift that both bride and groom will enjoy.
Put Wedding Planning in Perspective, Humorously.......2001-08-01
Thank you Dan Zevin! Not only has Zevin helped me find the humor in planning my own wedding, but he's also helped me find a little more sanity in my life. After all, you can't take wedding planning to seriously when it's just one big circus.
This book is a MUST READ for any bride- and groom-to-be.
I would have prefered that this book was a requirement during our "Engaged Encounter" weekend, rather than listen to hokey married couples that have been married soo long, that they're soo far removed from the perils of today's modern wedding planning. I could relate to soo much of what Zevin talked about, it was hilarious!
My Fiance was a bit put-off by my urging him to read this book until I started reading portions of it out-loud to him (the announcement to the parents and the choosing the reception site portions), only then did he relate to Zevin's sarcastic humor and experiences which "were no way related to him and his lovely wife Meg." He couldn't stop laughing.
I have lots of friends that are getting married, and I'm going to urge that they get this book (it's a quick, easy and pleasurable read)...if they don't, I'll buy it for them.
Hilarious engagement gift.......2000-12-14
This is a great gift for any couple contemplating the plunge -- assuming they still have a sense of humor after the first trip to the wedding planner. I especially appreciated the budgeting worksheets!
Not what I expected!.......2000-06-22
I guess from what I had read about the book I expected a light hearted
but helpful guide for couples trying to plan a "sensible"
wedding. The book is actually "Erma Bombeck" type humour,
not all that funny. ....
