Book Description
As this hands-on book demonstrates, anyone with a pencil, a sketchbook and the will to learn can achieve amazing drawings simply by focusing on the fundamentals.
Centered around a range of popular landscape subjects, including trees, seascapes and farmland, 20 practical drawing exercises lead artists through basic techniques while providing simple methods for mastering challenging landscape elements.
Each exercise breaks down a finished drawing into six simple steps that give artists the opportunity to follow the drawing step-by-step from beginning to end.
Exercises feature a range of drawing media, including charcoal, chalk, pastel, colored pencil, pen and ink and watercolor. In addition, artists will find ample tips, suggestions and explanations to help them avoid mistakes and build their skills quickly.
Book Description
Cultural Writing. Art. WHY DRAW A LANDSCAPE talks about the relationship of the self to the real world, and looks at different approaches to landscape by eleven painters and sculptors whose styles ranges from Realist to Conceptual. This book follows Kathan Brown's well-received WHY DRAW A LIVE MODEL? (also available from SPD) about which Artforum's Bookforum commented "The next best thing to being there." And from Contemporary Impressions: "Brown's style feels like a conversation with a friend." Includes 83 color plates.

Words from one who understands.......2005-12-08
Kathan Brown has long been a champion of art, both in writing and in production: her Crown Point Press in San Francisco was founded in 1962 as has served as a resting place where artists can be 'in residence' to work with the outstanding staff of craftsman to create new ideas in etching and monoprint form from their busy careers of painting and drawing. In this excellent book Brown discusses the work of eleven artists whose preoccupation with the landscape provoked conversations with Brown that lead to this penetrating and wise interaction of ideas lightly titled WHY DRAW A LANDSCAPE?
The artists with whom Brown has a working relationship at the Press include Jane Freilicher, Sylvia Plimack Mangold, April Gornik, Pat Steir, Joan Nelson, Anne Appleby, Edward Ruscha, Robert Bechtle, Tom Marioni, Bryan Hunt, and David Nash. And is ever there were more disparate views of observing and drawing the landscape than this group of artists represents, it has not been the subject of writing. Brown writes with skill and wit and a natural warmth. In responding to the works of these artists and their views of the land, Brown states 'Irony may be on the way out as the darling of the art world avant-garde agenda', and few writers can state such a fact with quiet sensitivity better than Kathan Brown. This book is a fine adjunct to those who elect to investigate representational art and landscape art in particular. Grady Harp, December 05

Garfield strikes again.......2005-08-10
Without a doubt, he's the coolest cat out there in comics. With his crazy insane appetite, his total love for Odie (kidding) and attacking the mailman on a regular basis. This is one that wont disappoint, but again this is Garfield so its hard to do that anyways. Love having 3 books together in one pack, it just goes to show. Even after all these years his comics are as funny as ever.
Excellent!.......2005-07-28
The service was excellent! The books were shipped quickly, and the condition was excellent. My son just became interested in Garfield, and he reads and re-reads these books. It keeps us both happy that he is reading, and keeping his skills up, and he enjoys the material. I'll be back again for future purchases!

Book Description
Warning:
This book contains explicit material detailing the on- and off-camera exploits of the cast and crew throughout the production of jackass the movie, including firsthand accounts, photographic documentation, poor grammar, interpretive dance, and one crappy diagram for something that's not even shown in its entirety in the movie.
It also features frank and revealing interviews with Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Chris Pontius, Steve-O, Ryan Dunn, Dave England, Ehren McGhehey, Preston Lacy, Jason "Wee Man" Acuña, and Brandon Dicamillo, pertaining to their absurd world of stunts, pranks, parental abuse, male undergarments, and a bunch of other page-filling nonsense.
MTV strongly advises that neither you nor your dumb little buddies attempt to read any of this material. In fact, they would prefer you used it to point at clouds, rainbows, or any other naturally occurring atmospheric phenomena instead.

Jackass evolution........2003-09-28
Jackass the book? This book is for any Jackass fan or someone that wants a good read for a change. The book goes through everything Jackass. You'll know a whole lot more about Jackass and the crew if you read this book. It has hilarious articles, interviews and pictures. From the show to the movie it tells you everything. It has information and interviews with the whole jackass crew and gang, and information on every scene from the movie. If you are a fan of Jackass & the CKY films, then you'll want this book. I can read it over and over again and laugh.
Absolutely Fabulous.......2003-08-08
This book was an amazing buy. Not only did it give insight into the events that went on during the complete filming of Jackass the Movie, but it gave the reader a look into the lives of the entire Jackass cast as it provided interviews with a plethora of people. Sean Cliver is a very gifted journalist/writer and his account of working on the movie was just a fun read. If you have even the most minute interest in Jackass, I definately urge you to invest in this book. You will surely enjoy.
Best book ever.......2002-12-21
I'm not really into reading but this has caught my attention. It was bought buy a secret santa and I thank her alot she made my christmas alot better and put me in a good mood. I am really exciceted about reading it it looks really intresting. It has stuff that didnt make the movie, color pictures, behind the scenes, intervies and alot more if your a jackass fan or like anyone in the crew or saw the movie and like it then this is a must!
WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!!1.......2002-11-10
This book isn't just pictures(which I thought it was), it is indepth stories, interviews with EVERY cast member, CKY, etc.. A MUST HAVE FOR JACKASS FANS.
Behind the scenes, jackass..........2002-11-04
I was so impressed by this book! Not for the sheer fact that there was a book written about the best TV show/movie in the country, but the fact it was full of pure literary genius. The masses generally think the Jackass crew is chock full of brain-depleted imbeciles who enjoy breaking bones and shreek with joy at the first sight of blood. But what they fail to remember is these guys were writers first (that's "Big Brother" magazine for those who have a hard time keeping up), then jackasses. This book is full of literary analogies. Keep a dictionary handy--you'll need it to look up all those hard words you didn't think the Jackasses knew (and neither do you, for that matter). Buy this book! It's a great behind-the-scenes book for the movie. And if you're like me, you want to know the details.
Customer Reviews:
What every school administrator should know.......2002-11-05
This book makes clear how so many school principals and assistant principals and department heads fail to make use of the talent, intelligence and, most important, good will of their staffs. While Levinson uses a business model, it is most appropriate to schools because traditional school leadership is the most top-down and the top is the federal govenment, followed by the state, followed by the superintendency ... etc. This book guided my career and allowed me to share leadership with my teachers and and to have them invest themselves in their students and in me. It made all the difference!

Enjoyable Read for those of love the Independent Spirit.......2006-05-08
I ran across this book quite accidentally while looking for genealogy information concerning the South Dakota prairies. As it happens, Jean DeHaven is a first cousin of my mother's. In her words after reading this book, "It's like you're right there with the mule team, experiencing the West." This is a book about sometimes forgotten values of independence, having dreams and goals, determination, true friendship, and common decency. All the makings of a novel, but all true experiences taking place in the mid 1960's. A refreshing change from our busy, commercial world, making me proud of my S.D. roots and helping me understand some of what guided family members of the 19th century living in comparable comfort in the East to make the treacherous trip in search of freedom, open skies, and land (lots of it!). A great read.

Book Description
America is out of control. Political correctness rules the world. Irresponsible people make the rules. Government wastes, whining politicians, party line voting, our failed education system, judges making laws, and all we do is keep ignoring the abuse being dealt to us on a daily basis. We are being abused by our own ignorance. There are stupid people and there are those of us who are just ignorant. If you do not know what ignorance means, look it up. Politicians who are dying to turn America into a socialist society, where the government controls every aspect of our lives, are attacking us. Your friends, your neighbors, your bank, your employers, your employees, and everyone else are just waiting for the chance to cheat, steal, or just abuse you. Who is going to get you next? With a no-holds-barred approach, author Bear Brooks shares his thoughts and feelings on the state of America today. His outspoken discussions center around politicians, the rapid rise of lawsuits, environmentalists, dating, and marriage. Candid and bold, Brooks will make you stop and think about issues that affect us all.
Customer Reviews:
I smiled in the first five minutes..........2007-03-21
Perhaps it's just my sense of humor, but I read the first few pages online and laughed out loud in some sections. Good job!
The World is full of Jackasses.......2007-03-07
Reading this book is like getting on the bus departing at midnight from Las Vegas to Chicago. All seats are taken except the one next to a guy who starts his rant before you leave the depot. In Georgia-based Bear Brooks's case it's what jackasses the Democrats are, the Republicans, Corporate CEO's, lawyers, airlines, telemarketers, etc. Just when you think you can't take it anymore he hits upon a topic with which you agree: Why do they keep collecting tolls after the roads are paid for? How come new cars dent like beer cans? Who thinks labels are necessary like the one on an iron that warns you not to iron clothes while wearing them? This book not only raises the question of why we should listen to experts but also why we should listen to someone who says to the reader, "You may be smarter than I am, but I have one thing to say to that: who cares!" For one thing, Bear is an equal-opportunity smart ass. Nothing and no one is off limits, and every once in a while that's refreshing. For another, he forces us to wonder why we believe what we do. How many better books can claim as much?
And finally, he is funny with chapter headings such as "My God Can Beat Up Your God" and "'I Do Not Pay for Sex; I'm Married.' (Yeah, Right)." Who are not jackasses, you ask? Surprise. Brooks identifies radio talk-show hosts as guys with the gonads to say what needs to be said. Nevertheless, after the bus starts to empty you remain in the seat with him, and before long you're saying good-bye. You might not want to invite Bear Brooks's ideas home with you, but the time reading his book goes quickly. Hurray for the common man! Now where's my beer?
