Customer Reviews:
A Great Reference.......1998-11-17
This book is a Great value! Beats out most of the $20+ art anatomy books you see. Uses classical plates, photos, as well as well-rendered diagrams.
Book Description
Designed for your two-semester combined course, the new edition of anatomy and physiology is written to allow instructors the ability to accomplish one goal: to teach anatomy and physiology while fostering the skill of problem solving. Through learning how to solve problems and think critically, students learn A&P based on two themes: the relationship between structure and function, and homeostasis. An effective anatomy and physiology text should involve your students. It should invite them into the subject matter with a clear and interesting foundation, not intimidate or overwhelm. It should stimulate curiosity, promote critical thinking, and perhaps most importantly, it should teach students how to apply their knowledge throughout their professional careers. The fifth edition of Anatomy & Physiology accomplishes all of this and more.
Customer Reviews:
A&P.......2007-10-03
Unfortunately the class that I bought this text for is only for the Physiology side and I don't use the Anatomy content at all. As for the Physiology content I think that they do a very good job of explaining complex concepts in a simple student-friendly way.
it was required for me so i bought it.......2007-03-10
goood book, well organized, but guys its A&P. freaking hard
great product!.......2006-11-10
i recieved this book in brand new conditions just as promised! i am completly satisfied with the book!! i also recieved it in a timely matter.
Professor thought all wrong!.......2006-06-15
Although my professor thought most of the information in the textbook was wrong, it was a great guide to use both online and in class. Great illustrations!
Not Recommended.......2006-05-21
I bought this book for my Anatomy and Physiology 1 class in college. It was the required book for the class and the first semester we were using it. Upon going through we found numerous problems with information in the book. For example, there is an illustration of a reflex on page 419 and the foot is on backwards (according to the direction of the spinal cord). This is only one of many, many small problems with the book.
I do however give it two stars because the website accompanying the book gives a lot of explanations for each chapter with videos to better see what the chapter talks about.
If you're getting this book for independent study I recommend something else because this book has a lot of information that is wrong and you won't know to correct it. If you have a teacher who can point out the little qualms with this book, go for it but buy at your own risk.
Book Description
Skeletal structure, muscles, heads, special features. Exhaustive text, anatomical figures, undraped photos. Male and female. 337 illus.

fascinating and useful relic.......2006-01-17
this is an intriguing book for several reasons--first, it must pointed out that it contains some shocking statements about race that seem to be based on an odd hybrid of neoclassicism and social darwinism. skulls of different races (highly caricatured)are compared to greek ideals using arcane measurements, and this becomes a springboard for a twisted argument about racial superiority that was, alas, probably quite maintstream during the 1920's. additionally, many photographs of live models have been strangely doctored; the faces appear to have been painted over to resemble greek classical sculpture, which, instead of looking beautiful, is rather grotesque... equally hideous (although understandable for the time) is the rubbing out of the models' genitals.
that being said, the anatomical plates are beautifully drawn and numerous, with a great deal of useful information. unlike many other books, photographs of models in bended and tensed poses are compared with diagrams that show the muscles in those same positions, depicting their contracted and expanded states.
finally, this is the ONLY anatomy book I've ever seen that compares male and female antatomy in any depth, showing differences in proportion and skeletal structure (with particular attention to the pelvis). this is something that elliot goldfinger's book completely missed the boat on unfortunately. for that reason alone it is a key book for any serious figurative artist.
Old book in a new cover.......2005-02-17
This is more like a text book with very few poor quality older drawings and photos of models. Nothing is more disturbing than blurred areas of the anatomy in a photo, looks more like mutilation than modesty. Essentially, this is an old book with a new cover, and it is not a handbook.

a MUST-HAVE for all artists.......2006-11-26
This is the most classical, most essential anatomy book for artists that has ever been created. And yet nobody can compete with BAMMES.If you have that book feel secure-you have the tools-practice is the rest.
AN EXCELLENT ANATOMICAL BOOK FOR FINE ARTS.......2000-01-29
I'm teacher of Artistic Anatomy in Seville (Spain), and I would like to found an Spanish or English translatión of this book, because I have a germany edition (And I don't Know a word in this language). It seems a complete book, both text and images. So if you may give me some information about how I can get it in Spanish (I believe that not exist), or in English (in second place more easy for me), I would thanks you send me the way.
An essential reference for beginners to experts........1997-10-01
Bammes has put together one of the greatest collections of figure drawings in this book. Whether you're just beginning to tackle the problems of life drawing or you're an expert at translating the human anatomy to paper, this book should be positioned next to your sketching pads at all times. Not only does Bammes explain how artists might attack a problem, he uses illustrations from variety of sources. This is especially valuable because while readers see the artists solutions, many varieties of styles and mediums are represented. Drawings include simple gestural figure composed of a few graphite marks to complex figures with shadings and highlights. Because this is such a big thick book, readers can be sure that the human figure is explored from almost every angles. The variety of styles may also serve as points of inspiration. The Artist's Guide to Human Anatomy is not quite the artists' bible, but it's just as essential.

Book Description
Upper, middle-level combined anatomy and physiology text for full year course. Learning system is designed to challenge students to think critically and understand relationships between structure, function, and body systems.
Customer Reviews:
an excellent book for premed students.......2001-01-06
For someone who is initially exposed to anatomy and physiology (even basic histology and embryology!), it's quite readable and understable. It even makes this complicated subject much fun. Colorful graphics and diagrams help describe concepts and processes more precisely and interestingly. You'll love physiology after reading it. "No, I don't think so" will probably be your answer when your classmates comment that physiology is too hard and dull. Fairly economical purchase of a combined anatomy and physiology text.
Very practice book............2000-06-19
This book is very practice for students who study medicine (anatomy and physiology)... Students will find detailed information about physiology and anatomy of human body (brain, heart, kidney... and about intracellular transfer, ATP...) really, it's very good book!
Book Description
Fashioning Fabrics considers the work of fashion designers who put textile development at the center of their practice. Taking in both flights of fancy gracing the most exclusive catwalks in the world and emerging designers working on a much smaller scale, this stunning book explores and pays homage to the experimental, the beautiful and the extravagant in textile design. From Issey Miyake's sculptural pleats to Jessica Ogden's salvaged and reworked vintage fabrics, from Pucci prints to conceptual play in the designs of Hussein Chalayan, Fashioning Fabrics concentrates on innovative, challenging approaches to design. Each designer is profiled in detail and their relationship with fabrics and fashion explored. Fashioning Fabrics is beautifully illustrated with detailed images of the textiles discussed and photography illuminating the creative process from studio to catwalk. Whilst it may seem obvious that textiles play a pivotal role in fashion design, the use of fabric is rarely discussed in its own right. Fashioning Fabrics seeks to redress this imbalance. With an introduction by Sandy Black, author of Knitwear in Fashion, and a renowned writer in this field, this book traces a history of innovation and passion for textiles.
Customer Reviews:
get mileage out of your fabrics.......2007-03-27
This book shows us how to take a simple fabric and turn it into something more by manipulating or embellishing it into something else. We see the work of skilled designers who specialise in making something more out of a flat piece of material then transform it into something wearable.

Binky's Guide to Love
ASIN: 0140263101 |
Amazon.com
Matt Groening said that the measure of successful social criticism is "if you can delight half your audience and really annoy the hell out of the other half." Groening's tenth Life in Hell book, The Huge Book of Hell, works in much this way. Having evolved from a cynical, bitter outlook on life, Life in Hell now offers what is most likely the sharpest, most subversive social criticism available in comic strips. (Only Groening seems to be able to write things like "I have a constant craving for Jack Daniels" or "I'm going to tell God to stab you.") And, as such, it sometimes hits, it sometimes misses. What remains consistent is the quality of the insight, whether it be on the creative process, life's little burdens, family life, or the trials of love.
Customer Reviews:
Starts out good, then falls apart........2005-01-29
The first three or so chapters delighted me. At first, I was thinking, "Wow this guy thinks EXACTLY like I do!". Then I hit the rest of the book. The majority of this book is dedicated to who Matt Groaning hates, and it's always an extremely generalized group (and anyone who's read the book will no what I mean). He'll take a strip that starts out with a lot of creative potential, and then slap a very generalized criticism onto it. It wouldn't be so bad if these criticisms were sharp, witty, and made you think (which they sometimes are and do), but they usualy come off dissapointingly arrogant, shallow, and empty. What makes this especialy dissapointing is the fact that there are so many gems spread through out the book. Strips that seemed to speak to my very soul. But the I would envatibly turn the page and read strip that was so "instert word here"-ist that it threatened me to think less of Matt as a human being. This would be forgivable if all of the dissapointing strips were earlier ones, but many of them date all the way up to 1995, which gives plenty of slack for Matt to have grown up. I can't realy say Im glad to have read this book over all, but Im definitely glad that I was able to read a number of particular strips that were in it.
For God's sake, buy it........2001-07-11
Matt Groening, both in his Life In Hell series and the Simpsons TV show, has shown a keen eye for social satire. I constantly find elements of my own personality in his work. This book will keep you laughing cover-to-cover. Will and Abe's sibling rivalry is just hilarious. Akbar and Jef's relationship (romance?) reminds you that yours is not too bad. Binky and Bongo are constantly submitted to humiliation in a way that many of us can relate to. For some of us, Life In Hell is the story of our lives.
Extremely Funny.......2001-05-16
Matt Groening, the creator of one my favorite shows the simpsons, draws a little cartoon called Life In Hell. A strip that goes through lifes little moments like, Sex, Love, School, Hate, Death, Religion and Rabbits, whose conclusion is that we are all ... If you enjoy the simpsons at all, you will love this comic strip. Just open it up and start laughing I gaurentee that this will be funnier than Garfield or Charlie Brown could ever be.
hahahahahaahaaahaaaahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.......1999-04-20
this is a very very very funny book. i have to say i like jeff and akbar more than the stuff with binky, bongo, and sheba. will and abe is funny too. i'm a cartoonist kinda' personan i think matt does really good cartoons, so whoever thinks he draws bad:!@#$ you! and if he's so bad why don't you try drawing binky, or bongo, or sheba, jeff,(akbar's the same looking)will, or abe!!! all you simpson fans; read it!
Groening hilarity!.......1998-11-07
If you like The Simpsons, then you've gotta buy this book and learn about Hell. It's Groening unconstrained. Just like his TV show, Life in Hell is a bunch of poorly drawn characters on the surface and incredibly deep humor on the inside....10 stars!

Book Description
To most out-of-towners New Yorkese is a foreign language, unintelligible without this handy dictionary. To help you get around town, this book contains dozens of words and phrases you won't find in Webster or anywhere else but New York City. New Yorkers say what they think and the way they say it is expressed in New Yorkese. It is blunt, straightforward and spoken at machine-gun speed. It gets New Yorkers what they want and it will do the same for you when you visit the Big Apple. Besides, it is very funny!

Itýll make a New Yorker proud and an outa-towner educated........1998-10-12
This is your ultimate guide to understanding the twisted vocabulary of your native New Yorker. If you are a New Yorker it will make you proud. It is an essential guide for New Yorkers to understand themselves and a necessary survival guide for tourists. It is important to understand that when a New Yorker says, "Good mawnin'. Howawya?", he is being friendly. You'll also find lotsa Catlicks in St. Patricks Cathedral. The illustrations by Frank Marciuliano are hysterical. In fact, they are essential in understanding some of the words. A must have! `How to Speak New Yorkese' will show you that `the only way ta make it through a day in New Yawk is with a sensa yuma'.
