The title of fashion designer Gianni Versace's new book references his diverse clientele, who not only wear his clothing but also impact his designs: rock & roll queens Tina Turner and Madonna, fashion princesses Kate and Naomi, design lords Lagerfeld and Armani, and even the real deal, Diana, Princess of Wales. Photos of these and other fashion mavens, both in and out of Versace clothing, are interspersed with images of royalty throughout history, such as Queen Victoria, Empress Catherine of Russia, and a young Queen Elizabeth. The aesthetic juxtaposition of history and modernity, depicted in black-and-white photographs and colorful artwork, echoes the energy of the fashion world and captures the influential style of its inhabitants. The royalties from the sale of Rock and Royalty will benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
Customer Reviews:
Gianni Versace, a Fashion Genuis.......2002-06-11
Gianni Versace was a designer who loved to push the envelope. His clothes were a mixture of extremes: sexy, sleazy, colorful, tacky, and elegant. One adjective you'd never find in a sentence with the word Versace is "boring." His clothes commanded--and often got--attention, which is why he was such a favorite among celebrities such as Madonna, Elton John, Liz Hurley, Courtney Love, Prince, Jon Bon Jovi and even Princess Diana. This book is a fabulous, eye-opening collection of vivid photographs of models and rock stars in Versace: from Prince to the members of British boy band Take That. Some outfits are more releaving than others, but they're all unmistakably Versace. Diana herself is also included in the book, along with a few words of praise for the designer. Tragically, Versace was murdered in the summer of 1997, but his spirit and influence live on. This book comes highly recommended. Drop it on your coffeetable, and your guests won't want to put it down.
excellent!.......2001-11-12
A must have book for all Versace fans.
A note from Maureen Farquhar.......2000-03-10
Fantastic photography in another large book from Versace. This book captures the 'rock chic' glamourama which the late Versace excelled at creating. The association between 'Rock and Roll', and art is full indulged here creating a empirical illusion to the Versace dynasty. The glossy presentation of the images also adds to an overall feeling of luxury. The only reason I have not given this book the top rating is for its inclusion of Elton John - who makes me sick. So what if its expensive, luxuries like this don't come cheap. ciao,
Maureen Farquhar (maureenfarquhar@yahoo.com)
Rock and Royality - Versace.......1999-09-19
This book gives a look into the classic, Calabrian influenced, luxury of Versace. This volume serves as a record of the pure decadant genius of this mega Italian talent.
Great, glamourous book!.......1999-08-22
For all of you who loves Gianni Versace clothes and really admire what he had done to the world of fashion I recommend you to have this incredible book.

Good For What It's Good For.......2000-07-07
This book will not change your life, but if you like to look at pictures of Diana in her lovely clothes looking lovely herself, this is a pretty volume, well designed and pleasant to browse through. The text will not set the standard for the industry, however, so if you are looking for more in depth reviews of her fashions or her biography, you could make a better choice.
Bottom Line: It's a lovely treat to spend an afternoon with this book if you're not interested in anything new or innovative. Enjoy it for what it is, an attractive book about an attractive woman.
This is a great book/.......1999-03-25
Prince Charles has said that he likes to see a lady well dressed; however, I don't think he was ever able to cope with his late ex-wife's beauty, charisma, elegance, poise, and humor. He could not accept the fact that people would rather see his radiant wife who was royal by marriage, but a far cry from the traditional, stuffy royal. I think his envy was one reason for the breakup of their marraige. This book covers every phase of Diana's multifaceted life.
Even as a Sloane Ranger, Diana had outstanding tast in the style of clothes she wore and in the accessaries she chose to wear with each outfit. This book contains many beautiful pictures of Diana which have never been seen before.
It's difficult to believe this beautiful, young princess is no longer alive because each picture of her radiates such warmth. Diana often recycled many of her dresses by having different little touches added or by having something deleted. Diana possessed the ability to combine the most expensive jewelry with costume jewelry. She, also, liked color and chose to wear colors which no royal before her had done. Diana like to shop and what modern lady doesn't? Again, something royals didn't do.
Truly, Diana is "Queen of Style." This book is well written and shows that Diana could wear many varieties of color, dresses, jewelry, etc. with which no one before her dared to experiement. All pictures are in color except for a couple. This book is a must for anyone who collects books on Diana, Princess of Wales.
Good but not the best on this topic........1998-10-28
This book is good but not the best on this particular topic--Diana and her fashions. It makes many mistakes, such as identifying a Valentino dress as a Catherine Walker design. The text is mostly adulatory and simply describes things you could see for yourself by looking at the pictures (of which there are many). Topics such as her weight loss are touched upon, then dropped. The text needed an editor.
The photos, however, are lovely.
Interesting and informative with excellent photos........1998-09-15
Both interesting and informative, this book chronicles the late Princess Diana's fashion history from her engagement days through her last year. With details gathered from her favorite designers, photos describing each period show how Diana emerges from her look as a trendy Sloane Ranger to the style icon she became. This book is a 'must' for any collector.

"There is a certain glee in my work," says Joe R. Lansdale. "But for me, it heightens the horror." The Drive-In: A B-Movie with Blood and Popcorn and its sequel (The Drive-In 2)--both well known to Lansdale fans--are back in this welcome omnibus edition. The story is about a bunch of affectionately described characters in small-town Texas who go to a horror-movie marathon at the local drive-in. While they're watching The Toolbox Murders, a bright red meteor with a toothy smile swoops down and traps them in the drive-in for all time. Then the fun begins: endless re-runs of the same movies and fights over concession food, followed by anarchy, religion, cannibalism, bodily transformation, crucifixion, mad bikers, and a supernatural Popcorn King. It's not just silly, though; it's social commentary. The lesser (but equally surreal) sequel further explores the end-of-the-world scenario. As Lansdale himself says, "The Drive-In is quirky as hell. It's kind of a cult book, and it's not for everybody." The Drive-In was nominated for a 1989 World Fantasy Award for Best Novel.

Trapped In The Drive In Theatre? That Sounds Pretty Cool!!!.......2005-05-01
Ths book introduces the reader to a group of four teenage boys who spend their Friday nights at the Orbit Drive In Movie Theatre. A meteor passes overhad and allcontact with the outside world is ceased. What happens next is a study of the "Group Dymnamics" of people who are thrown togther in a situation with no escape. My Socology Professor at Univesity would have loved this book!!! This book takes me back to my wild, misspentyouth at the Drive In Movie Threate where for $3.50 you could see two movies (that used to be called a "Double Feature" for all you youngpeople readingthis) and at Intermission you could risk food poisining by eating a soggy hamburgr from the Concession Stand. "Cold beer and hot nights" as Billy Joel once sang!!!
I just wanted.......2004-03-14
I just wanted to jump on the bandwagon of clapping this book on the back. Six stars!
Doesn't get much weirder.......2003-10-29
The quintessetial B-movie in fiction form. This novel is so out there, at first i didn't think i could suspend my disbelief enough to enjoy it, but once i did, what a ride. Imagine if you asked your ten year old nephew to come up with a scary story, that's about what this book boils down to, sheer nonsense, but it works beacuse Lansdale's writing is superbly funny and entertaining. ... I long for another installment in the drive in series, but for now we'll have to settle with the comic book adaptation.
Great pulpy stuff from the Texan master..........2003-04-21
Joe Lansdale often writes tales that requires the reader to be able to suspend disbelief and this one is a prime example. The tale follows 4 teenagers who become trapped in a drive-in by a mysterious force-field. From then on things become more and more chaotic; biker-gangs, cannibalism, religious fanatics, hippies, the popcorn king are but a few of the things you will encounter while reading this. The second novel is just as good although radically different. I don't think I will ever be able to forget the character of poppalong cassidy. It says a lot that such a wild and unconventiional book as this one is still in print after all these years. Don't miss this one; very entertaining and you'll laugh your pants off.
You'll laugh your behind off!.......2003-03-03
Really wunnerful, cheesey pulp stuff. You will laugh your behind off. Has the really outrageous Lansdale humor but some genuine scares as well. Like Shannon's novel 'Night of Beast' it is a tribute to the gory glory days of horror fiction the 70 and 80's
Book Description
When a group of friends decided to spend a day at the world's largest Drive-In theater horror fest, they expected to see tons of bloody murders, rampaging madmen, and mayhem - but only on the screen. As a mysterious force traps all the patrons inside the Drive-In, the worst in humanity comes out. Filled with Lansdale's razor whit and black humor, The Drive-In is a darkly humorous masterpiece! Collected here is the complete four issue series with bonus material including a new interview with Lansdale himself about the writing of The Drive-In.
Customer Reviews:
TRUE DRIVE-IN HORROR.......2006-05-08
The Adaptation of Joe Lansdale's "The Drive-In" is as much about humanistic horror as it is supernatural. A devious, and visceral lab experiment with humans as the test subjects. A group of young friends in Texas decide to spend an evening at the Orbit drive-in movie theater to see an all night long horror film festival with movies like "Evil Dead", "Dawn of the Dead", "Texas Chainsaw Massacre", and more, but the terror will soon turn all too real. Best friends Jack and Bob, along with sheepish Randy, and tough biker Willard think they're in for a long evening of horror classics and beer when the appearance of a meteor changes everything. Suddenly the four friends find themselves trapped in the drive-in with hundreds of other customers by an otherworldly force. They are virtually cut off from the rest of the world by a darkened sky and an impenetrable wall which virtually melts anyone who tries to leave.
Without any means of calling for help, and dwindling food supplies from the concession stand, it is the reactions of the captives that provide the true horror. Some rage forth to try and takeover the concession stand for themselves, others decide that end of the world sex is the way to go, while a fundamentalist Christian movement starts up preaching the way of God. Jack retreats into a shell and has to be pulled out of his self-imposed isolation by Bob who has a hidden stash of food in his car. Meanwhile Willard and Randy's relationship soon turns grossly symbiotic. The pair takes over the concession stand and are struck by a bolt of lightening which should have killed them both. Instead, the pair's bodies have become virtually fused together in a twisted, corroded form that now calls itself the Popcorn King. This demonic dark lord soon has most of the residents worshipping him as a God, even as he feasts upon their bodies. Bob & Jack soon realize that they may be the only hope of salvation for the survivors as they hatch a plot to destroy the Popcorn King.
Lansdale's original story is adapted by Christopher Golden who is probably best known for his Buffy the Vampire Slayer novels as well as writer of the Buffy comic for Dark Horse. He is aided greatly by the beautifully chaotic artwork of Andres Guinaldo who captures the drive-in in all its animalistic glory. The true horror isn't the demonic Popcorn King but seeing how humanity quickly degrades in the face of adversity. Typical, and outstanding Lansdale and a fine job by Golden and Guinaldo. The graphic novel also includes an interview with Landsdale.

LOVE HORROR, HATED THIS BOOK.......2007-02-12
People are trapped in a drive-in while attending a horror marathon. As times passes the people become more and more crazy. There's also a monster that has taken over and all this is supposedly the result of aliens trying to make their own low-budget horror film. Sounds great! There's no way one could go wrong with this. Ah but wrong I was indeed. This thing is horrible and by the end I was sick at the thought that I actually paid money for this book and took the time to read it. Its just people doing random weird and violent things at a drive-in. Even the "creature" mentioned on the back of the book is a disappointment since all it is is 2 people that got melded together (not a spoiler since you're there for its creation) . As for the aliens, they only make an appearance in a very brief dream sequence. The whole part about them trapping these people to make a movie really just seems like an afterthought thrown in to make the story (or lack thereof) somewhat understandable. Even the climax is one of the most disappointing I have ever had the displeasure of reading. As tempting as this book may seem to be, avoid it. Plus, keep in mind I actually like the movie "Dead End Drive-In" a lot so this book is REALLY awful.
All hail the popcorn king!.......2000-03-30
This has got to be one of Lansdale's strangest stories. One Friday night at a drive-in in Texas something comes out of the sky and nothing is going to be the same. Everything beyond the fences of the drive-in disappear and as the popcorn and candy run out strange things start to happen. A new god is born and his name is the popcorn king.
This story is extremely original, fast-paced, full of interesting characters and great dialog. It has everything; bad movies, cannibalism, monsters, aliens, and a few other surprises.
Customer Reviews:
It just keeps getting better.......2000-03-30
If you read The Drive-In and thought Lansdale couldn't get any stranger, be prepared to change your mind.
The inhabitants of the drive-in are finally freed (what's left of them anyway) and the world they discover beyond the walls has changed quite a bit! This novel has it all. There are dinosaurs, monsters, aliens, true love, murder, horror movies, and lots and lots of popcorn.
Once again Lansdale writes an amazingly inventive story with lush scenery, well-thought out characters, an extremely fast-paced story, and of course, the popcorn king.

Book Description
Marilyn Meberg has found a wonderful formula for living: "Cheer up, for Christ has overcome the world." One of the featured speakers on the wildly popular Women of Faith tour, Marilyn uses her own life events to show how we can maintain joy in the midst of difficult heartbreaking experiences.
Customer Reviews:
Delightful Reading!.......1999-03-31
Marilyn's humor is wonderful. She gives day-to-day events a new look...like how her washing machine when on spin cycle threaten to march thru the laundry doors out into the neighborhood. A very fun, easy book to read. Inpiration as well, gives the lighter side of losing someone close.
Choosing joy in moments of sorrow..........1998-11-09
If anyone had a reason to curl up into a corner and cry, it would be Marilyn Meberg. She has experienced things in her life that many of us will NEVER go through nor understand. Instead of hiding under the banner of "I have a right to my pity party", she chose to rise above it all and find laughter and joy in the most desparate of circumstances. Her anecdotes had me nearly rolling on the floor with laughter and tears in my eyes. Everyone needs to learn how to laugh. It is a necessary skill in life. The Lord provided this means for stress relief and we should embrace and learn to use it.
Product Description
With warm encouragement, contagious enthusiasm, and a dash of mischievous humor, she shares the powerful medicine of God's Word. As the light of His love courses through your heart, you'll soon find yourself agreeing: "I'd rather be laughing!"
