Book Description
What a bargain! At more than 700 puzzle-packed pages, this huge, value-priced collection should keep any solver happy...and busy for a very long time. It contains brain-busting challenges of almost every type: math logic problems for the numerically inclined; absolutely amazing lateral thinking conundrums; really great critical thinking bafflers; and mind-boggling word puzzles.
Here’s just a small sample of what’s inside: The 22nd and 24th presidents of the United States had the same mother and the same father, but were not brothers. How could this be so? Stumped? That’s because it’s one man—Grover Cleveland—who was reelected after skipping a term. And that’s just an easy warm-up!
Customer Reviews:
Disappointing.......2007-08-28
"The World's Biggest Book of Brainteaser and Logic Puzzles" has almost 600 pages of puzzles. The puzzle sections include: "The World's Most Amazing Logic Puzzles"; "The World's Most Challenging Lateral Thinking Puzzles"; "The Word's Most Nearly Impossible Brain Bafflers"; "The World's Most Intense False Logic Puzzles"; "The World's Most Taxing False Logic Puzzles"; "The World's Most Mystifying Logic Puzzles"; "The World's Most Daunting Math Puzzles"; "The World's Greatest Critical Thinking Puzzles"; and "The World's Most Mind-Boggling Word Puzzles". The solutions are in the back of the book directly after the puzzles.
"The World's Biggest Book of Brainteasers and Logic Puzzles" is a mixed bag. For starters, I didn't realize when I ordered it that the book didn't have new puzzles but instead consists of puzzles from previously published books, which was a huge disappointment, especially since I already owned some of the books included. This is also problematic since some of the puzzle sections, like the Lateral Thinking ones, have no explanation on how to solve the puzzles which might confuses solvers not familiar with that type of puzzle. The book contains logic, math, and word puzzles with a heavy emphasis on the logic puzzles. Many of the logic puzzles are the type where you have to decide who is telling the truth and who is lying. My favorite puzzles in the book are the word puzzles, several of which are difficult but far too many of them give away the answer in either the name of the puzzle or the description of the puzzle. While the solution selection gives detailed answers to each puzzle, I found it extremely frustrating that the answers did not list the number of the page the puzzle was on which made it difficult to find the answer if you skip from puzzle to puzzle.
While "The World's Biggest Book of Brainteasers and Logic Puzzles" had some challenging puzzles, I was ultimately disappointed in it.
It was fun.......2007-02-07
Although I just a fan of the critical thinking problems, all of the others were quite interesting. All I know is that I suck at lateral thinking problems.

Fascinating lore and charming style make great browsing!.......1997-08-14
'Ladybugs, Tiger Lilies' was not meant to be a comprehensive book. The tales of how plants got their names sometimes read like 'How the Leopard Got Its Spots' -- but Hendrickson's accounts are concise and punchy. The book can be used as a reference for the probable origin of many names, or as a splendid book to browse for any gardener or plant enthusiast. It is full of trivia of the most charming kind

Book Description
This delightful book explains the principles of Zen gardening through inspirational words and illustrations by Judith Glover.
Book Description
Every day, we are fortunate to witness God's wondrous creation... whether it's a bluebird singing in a tree on a warm summer day, a bouquet of fresh cut flowers standing tall in a vase, or newly picked green beans from a garden. In the fifth book in the Words To Live By series, Mary Engelbreit illustrates for us the beauty of the world that we live in - the world that gardeners embrace with such enthusiasm - with her charming, detailed artwork and heartwarming verse. Flowers, gardens - the simplicity of nature itself - provides for us a sense of peace, security, and beauty,, and even strengthens our belief in God when we take a moment to stop and appreciate our incredible world. The miraculous sight of a red rose blooming, or tiny seeds developing into a garden full of vegetables - even a bird hatching from a tiny egg - keeps us forever in a state of wonder and amazement. Gardeners have a special way of keeping everything around us so lovely with their tender care, patience, and everlasting hard work. Throughout the pages of this keepsake book, they'll appreciate and value these inspirational words from well-known poets, artists, and writers. This book, full of Mary Engelbreit's cheery and colorful artwork, makes the perfect gift for enthusiastic gardeners or for those of us who simply enjoy the wonderment of the outdoors.
Book Description
For those who love the garden, it is not just about planting and growing, but about collecting garden-themed china, painting orchids and violets, visiting botanical gardens, reading and repairing rare horticultural books, competing in shows, and dreaming about the garden all winter long. In a book that celebrates the particular passion—perhaps “obsession” is a more accurate term—of the gardener’s life, Laurence Sheehan (with Carol Sama Sheehan,Kathryn George Precourt, and photographer William Stites) presents a diverse array of treasures that will delight every garden lover. In this select society, everyone understands why a collection of colorful seed packets could grow to fill many rooms, why one species of plant could preoccupy a lifetime, and why those with concrete patios as well as acres of ranch land could share a vision.
In the first section, “Inspired Plantsmen,” The Gardener’s Life introduces a group of people whose passion focuses on the plants themselves—growers of herbs and roses from Connecticut to California who have spent lifetimes devoted to their favorite plants. “Passionate Collectors” presents aficionados of garden books, garden watercolors, garden ornaments, and even well-worn, much-used, and lovingly restored antique lawn mowers. Finally, whether they possess a desire to throw the perfect flowerpot or to create a miniature yard on a city terrace, the free spirits in “Singular Visions” offer new ways of looking at, and loving, the garden—demonstrating that each garden and each gardener who tends it is unique. Mixed among the stories of these individuals are photographic “excursions”—visits to flower shows and wildflower gardens that illustrate how vast and varied the gardener’s world truly is.
More than a how-to gardening book, The Gardener’s Life works its way to the heart of why gardeners have unlimited fascination with their pastime, and why the garden is a place where art and nature, technique and toil—not to mention joie de vivre—meet to create paradise.

pretty pictures and pleasant anecdotes but not much else. if you are looking for something of substance you can do a lot better. a nice coffee table book but somewhat overpriced.
A New York Times Gift Book of the Year Selection.......2004-12-12
"The Gardener's Life is more frankly decorative, but it, too, offers variety and charm. Without the overkill of a shelter magazine, this book integrates its floral pinups with nice old lawn-mower and picket-fence pictures, the better to dream up a well-rounded rustic fantasy."

Book Description
Fashion Sourcebooks is a series of beautifully illustrated paperbacks presenting the costume drawings of John Peacock. The series charts the development of women's and men's clothing from 1900 onwards, with a volume devoted to the fashions of each decade. Fashion of the 1940s divides into two parts: pre-New Look and post-New Look. The first period was dominated by the Second World War, when rationing and shortages affected the design of clothes. Women's garments had a somewhat military, functional appearance, with wide shoulders, straight below-the-knee skirts, and a minimum of decoration. In 1947 Christian Dior's New Look brought a romantic revival: Narrow, rounded shoulders, lightly padded hips, and voluminous, billowing skirts introduced a new era of femininity and extravagance.
Customer Reviews:
Can this book really cost $919.13?.......2006-05-03
Please change the price as I would like to buy it.
The 1940's - Just a sneak peak.......2002-04-08
I found this book to be a great starter book. The drawings are done well enoungh so that you get a general idea of what clothing looked like back then, but not detailed enough to help you find those sort of fashions in thrift stores or on line.(They never show the backs of the clothes). I did like the drawings of the shoes and hats. I found those to be done well enough as to help in finding those actual items. If you are looking for 1940's fashions this book will help somewhat, but I wish the was more detail.
Great inspirations for retro fashion.......2001-07-13
I really like the two fashion sourcebooks I have. I bought them for inspiration in designing some clothing that will have a retro flair to it. While certainly not all the illustrations are of things that I like, overall I think the book is a good value and very interesting. Certainly the sketches are not very detailed, and if you're looking for a book of patterns, this isn't it, at all. Also be aware that the sketches are black and white.
Mostly women's fashions........2001-06-30
Great women's clothing, but if you're looking for men's styles -- don't blink. Looks like 1 men's for every 8 women's drawings.
This book only features rough sketches..........1999-12-21
Look closely at the cover of this book. It is filled only with such rough sketches of the day, evening, and sports wear from the decade. This is not a detailed, pattern-oriented fashion book. Rather, it would serve better as a reference guide for a designer looking for inspiration from classic styles.

Customer Reviews:
The continuation of Dragon Ball !!!.......2006-02-07
The first volume of DBZ is actually the continuation(not sequel) to the humorous dragonball series(vol.1-16)This one is really volume 17 in the overall story. The manga is vastly superior to the anime since it doesn't drag for too long the battles.Toriyama's original work let's you follow the plot, character development, and fights all in one package.I give this one four, because it only contains the first 10 chapters of DBZ and not twelve which is the average chapters per volume. The first two are in dragonball vol.16 since it closes that anime final arc.
A unique and compelling action series.......2005-01-28
Over the past few years, manga has been exploding into popularity. 'Main-stream' series, such as Pokemon, Yu-gi-oh, and Dragon Ball Z, are becoming scorned by more widely-read fans due to their overly-hyped status. Nevertheless, Dragon Ball Z still stands to be one of the most unique and fascinating action series in the shonen genre. If you aren't too tired of the anime, and have a taste for epic action, neat and yet detailed artwork, a suspenseful storyline, and villains who just won't die, then this series is for you. Dragon Ball Z was one of my first manga series, and later introduced me to the rest of the shonen genre.
While the anime has poor quality animation, a sluggish yet exhaustingly action-driven plot, and very little in the way of plot twists, the original manga more than makes up for this. There is much more evidence of a -storyline- (gasp! DBZ has a storyline??!) it is much more humorous, and the plot moves quickly without losing its pacing and flow. I have read the entire Dragon Ball series (the precursor to Dragon Ball Z) and have to say that I much prefer DB for its emphasis on character and humor, but still DBZ is a great series. Don't let the hype fool you: this is a series that deserves every bit of it!
this is a masterpeice.......2004-09-20
The Dragon Ball Z manga is a piece of art and should be in every collector's hands. This DBZ #1 is actually Dragon Ball #17 of 42, but this part of the story is fine to begin with; backstory is not a problem, since DBZ is a different stage of the lives of the characters. It is 160 pages of fun and wonder. Besides, for only $8 why would anyone pass up this opportunity? I guarantee this story will have you hooked. To buy more for less expensive prices buy used versions on Amazon, or buy new at ShonenJump.com
Dragon Ball Great!.......2004-04-25
Now I know alot of people are thinkin Dragon ball z is so boring. But if you read the graphic novel that just may change. You see since cartoon network doesn't play DBZ on tv anymore, its hard to see the first episode. But when I bought this book that changed and thinking it boring changed too.
I came to like it alot! its a perfect starting manga for any new manga fan. Since I just got into manga it was perfect for me. Now before you buy this book I should warn you there is some bad language in this book. So I would really recomend this book for any child 10 and up. Funny, action cool, martial arts, its got it all Dragon Ball z VOL.1 BUY IT NOW!
The best Manga... EVER!!!!!!.......2003-10-31
This was the first manga I had ever bought, now I'm hooked! I never really got into the TV series because I didn't watch any of the first episodes, and you can't just jump into the show in the middle, because nothing is really explained. That's why I dicided to get the manga when I found it in a book store.
Dragon Ball Z is a continuation of Dragon Ball, in which Son Goku learns that he is in fact a Sayian, a warrior-like alien race who destroy the inhabitance of planets for profiet, and Goku was to destroy all the humans on Earth. But when he got here he hit his head and lost his memory. Now he must defend his friends and the planet Earth from the 3 remaining Sayians.
I like Dragon Ball Z for its great characters and compeling storyline. And, of course, the ACTION!!! I believe the manga is better than the TV show, because it isn't that slow-paced. In my opinion, this is the best manga and the the best manga for newbie-otakus. If you want the story from the very beginning, I suggest the manga Dargon Ball Vol. 1. That one is more comedy than action, but still very good. Just buy it, you wont regret it. Siutable for ages 9 and up, for mild violence and language (not very much language, mind you).

Shonen Jump Series 1 Books.......2007-01-04
This was a gift for our son for Christmas! It was great he has read most all of them and now wants most of the series.
Shonen Jump Manga Magic.......2005-11-09
This is easily the best collection of Americanized manga out. As most know, Shonen Jump was at one time a Japanese exclusive magazine that made its hop across the Pacific in 2003 for American fans to enjoy. Since that moment, it's become the best in manga and now contains a majority of the manga juggernauts.
This collection is a great start for those of you who are interested in reading manga, or for those of you who missed out on some of the earlier issues of Shonen Jump and want to catch up on what's going on. It also has the beginnings to the Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z mangas, which can't be found in Shonen Jump.
Below is a listing of the manga in this box, as well as a small description of each:
(1) Dragon Ball: This is the start of the Dragon Ball world. It explains the origins of Goku and his relationship with the Dragon Balls.
(2) Dragon Ball Z: The beginning of one of the greatest animes ever in its purest form. Unpolluted with minutes-long shouting and infested with excellent action and story, this details the story of Goku as a father and a husband, as well as following some of the other favorites of the Dragon Ball world.
(3) Naruto: Probably the best in Shonen Jump, Naruto is a tale of a boy fox-demon who wants nothing more than to earn his place in the world, and does so by training to become a ninja, despite the mistrust directed at him by some of his teacher and the hatred he receives from his fellow students.
(4) One Piece: A boy eats the mysterious Devil Fruit at a young age, making his body into rubber and also cursing his body: should he ever fall into water, he would sink instantly to the bottom. Despite that, he wants nothing more than to be the pirate king of a world of oceans.
(5) Shaman King: Yoh, a boy who can not only see ghosts but control them, comes to Tokyo to train to become a powerful shaman in the hopes that one day he'll win the title of Shaman King.
(6) Yu-Gi-Oh!: A story of constant morals and themes, it details a young, pint-sized, pointy-haired boy's struggles with a mysterious puzzle/necklace that grants him dark super powers as well as an alter-ego.
(7) YuYu Hakusho: A juvenile delinquent dies saving a child and finds out that his next was entirely unexpected and therefore gains a chance to come back to life. What he later finds out is coming back to life also makes him a spirit detective.

Customer Reviews:
Dragon Ball - The King of Manga.......2007-06-05
Okay, while Dragon Ball isn't my favorite manga, it is probable the most well-known and most celebrated manga to date. And for good reason.
Volume 1 tells the story of when Bulma first met Goku, and they decide to hunt down the dragon balls. Goku's grandfather has died, and he is living alone in the wilderness, so he really has nothing to lose. The stories in this volume leave you wondering about Goku's origin (Bulma is constantly suprised by his mysterious monkey-tail), laughing at Goku's innocence, Oolong the pigs diarrhea, and Yamcha's shy perversion. Dragon Ball is a great manga. It will have you laughing and marveling at Akira Toriyama's unique artwork. If you're a fan of shonen manga but have not read Dragon Ball, do yourself a favor and try it out.
On a side note, Dragon Ball: Volume 1 is rated T for teen (ages 13 and over). I have heard that there are censored versions of the book as well as uncensored ones, and I'm not sure if this is true, but I know that I own an uncensored book. Uncensored, Dragon Ball contains some mild language, some mild violence (a cartoonish monster is decapitated),many sexual jokes (Goku is often "patting" strangers out of curiosity to whether they are male or female), and a generous amount of nudity (Son Goku is seen completely nude, Bulma has a shower scene where breasts and bottom are exposed, etc.) I'd recommend Dragon Ball for those ages 16 and over, despite the teen rating it received.
Dragonball 1 Review.......2007-04-29
Akira Toriyama's 1984 manga series "Dragonball" has got to be one of my favorites. While a lot of people in America think (negatively) of Dragonball as Dragonball Z or GT (manga/anime), I think of the classic Dragonball that has entertained me for the last couple years.
I first found Dragonball when browsing through manga at my local bookstore. The dragon on the cover was just one of the things that caught my eye. Inside, there was a whole world to be explored! I fell in love with Toriyama's detailed art, the ironic and entertaining storyline, the characters, the jokes...everything has made it a wonderful manga for me.
While it has its good things, it also has its bad. I would not reccomend Dragonball for people younger than 14, or to people who don't like manga, or even can't take a joke. Dragonball contains some violence (but no blood), crude humor, and sexual references.
In conclusion, Dragonball is just one of my favorite manga series, but perhaps my most valued. I hope you will like Dragonball, too!
A pleasant surprise.......2006-04-06
I've been a long time manga fan, but Dragonball Z was the one series I never could get into. There was just too much testosterone and muscles and screaming for my liking, and it tainted my view on Akira Toriyama himself.
Little did i know the Dragon Ball, the prequel to DragonBallZ, is in fact very different. I read it at my school library and was very pleasantly surprised, what I found was a fun adventure series that is often very racey but always hilarious.
Akira Toriyama has a fabulous gift for characterisation, and the ones he presents in this manga are extremely fun. Goku is a little monkey-tailed, uncivilized kid who has never seen other people before, and is somewhat shameless, Bulma is rather superficial and full of herself but tries to keep Goku in check, and Oolong the shape shifting pig is comedy gold.
As the other reviews can probably tell you, this isnt for the kiddies, but I myself was laughing my head off at some of the 'inappropriate' humour, such as Goku asking Bulma why she has 'a butt on her chest', and his horror-struck realistation that girls are different from boys as they have...'parts missing'.
The reason I give this book 3 stars however, is because of VIZ's english release. I do not like their habit of replacing the original japanese SFX with english, I feel it ruins the art. Aside from that, some of the speech was a little iffy, characters like Goku and Chi-chi were given oddly accented voices which didnt sound right to me. I am glad that for once VIZ DIDNT tone down any sexual jokes or censored any nudity as they have done in other Shonen Jump titles.
A must have!!!!.......2006-02-06
I got my copy four years ago, first printing, cause I wanted to read Goku's childhood since I always missed the show on cartoon network.I was thinking, okay I'll buy all 16 volumes of dragonball since shonen jump was publishing the later half better known in the US as DBZ.Boy, was I wrong, after half way reading the first chapter I was hooked and sayed to myself I'll buy all the volumes 1 through 42.Right now I am in volume 27(DBZ vol. 11)
The best manga ever!.......2006-02-06

Children's Letters to God

Book Description
Out of the mouths of pets comes the same universal questions that humans have grappled with for all eternity: Do hamsters reproduce in heaven? Is thunder absolutely necessary? Does heaven have a scent? Is it a sin to escape from your cage? Author Mark Bricklin has interviewed pets nationwide to find out the deepest questions that plague their souls.
Pets' Letters to God is an engaging, lavishly illustrated collection of the questions, complaints, and praises pets send to the Almightly.
In nearly 100 letters pets comment and wonder about everything from food to mailmen, from dog shows to salvation. With the charming wit of the bestselling French for Cats and the endearing optimism of Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul, Pets' Letters to God transcends the usual, embracing the idea that pets have an intelligence that, though different, is no less than ours.

A MUST FOR ANY PET LOVER!!!.......2004-11-14
I read this book in my vet's office while waiting for our scheduled appointment and as I turned each page I laughed out loud more and more. I am buying it for all of my pet loving friends for Christmas!
This is one LOUSY read!.......2004-06-08
A thoughtful person gave me a copy of Bricklin's poor excuse for humor. Of all pet "letters" pitifully few were even mildly amusing. My disappointment turned to anger when, near the books end, Bricklin throws a barb at the already hopelessly beleaguered pit bull breed. While breed is noted in only a tiny minority of "letters," pit bulls are specified in a less than complimentary reference. This is either misplaced spite or profound ignorance. As a person involved in pit bull rescue I deal with the helpless victims of Bricklin's style of thinking. One in five hundred pit bulls find a home, the rest are put to death. Shame on Bricklin and shame on Hallmark. I'll be passing this information along the rescue network to alert conscientious animal supporters to avoid this and other Hallmark products. For much higher quality humor read Mondo Canine by Jon Winokur.
The FUNNIEST and BEST Book for Animal Lovers!!!.......2004-04-14
This is the FUNNIEST and CUTEST book for ANYONE who likes animals. Men will enjoy it as much, if not more, than women. It is NOT a "religious" book, but a hilarious "translation" by Mark Bricklin of the various "messages" that he is sure various pets are sending up to God.
I have 3 copies of this book at home now and have given at least 7 books to friends, vets, my hairdresser, and family. It is a DELIGHTFUL little addition in a gift basket for someone you know that has a dog, cat, bird, fish, hampster; (you get the idea...)
Examples of Bricklins' humor, which are included:
" Dear God,
Is thunder absolutely necessary?"
McGwire Dog
"Dear God,
How do I get rid of dog breath?"
Delilah Dog
"Dear God,
Are humans on uppers or are we on tranquilers?"
Buddy Box Turtle
"Dear God,
Please Pass this message along to my so-called master:
Why are you trying to teach me to roll over and play dead? Do you find that funny? Funny how?"
Joe Dog
These are just a FEW of the terrific messages to God from a vast menagerie of pets. Most are just really funny, but a few are rather touching.
You cannot go wrong with this book. It is great to bring cheer to anyone's day!
--A treat for people who love animals--.......2003-09-25
PETS' LETTERS TO GOD has over sixty-five letters from dogs, birds, cats and various other animals asking God the tough questions.
For instance, Butch the Boxer asks, "Dear God, If a dog barks his head off in the forest, and no human hears him, is he still a bad dog?"
Another dog named Max asks, " Dear God, Are there dogs on other planets, or are we alone? I have been howling at the moon and stars for a long time, but all I ever hear back is the beagle across the street!"
Roddy, who I think is a hamster asks God, " Is it a sin to escape from your cage?"
This is a great gift for anyone who loves their pet or for a pet to gift to a favorite friend. In fact, I learned about this book because Abigail, a beautiful Bichon, recently gave this book to her dear friend who sometimes takes care of her.
A Wonderful Gift!.......2001-11-13
Pets' Letters to God is delightfully funny and insightful. This little book makes a great gift for animal lovers of all ages. You can't read a page without a smile!
