Book Description
The onetree project began in November 1998 with the felling of an ailing 170-year-old oak tree from the National Trust's Tatton Estate in Cheshire, England. In order to demonstrate the economic and cultural value of British woodlands, every last part of the tree-down to the bark, leaves, and twigs-was distributed to over seventy of the leading designers, artists, and makers in Britain. The work the makers have produced-including furniture, sculpture, bookbinding, jewelry, toys, automata, even poetry-has been reunited to form onetree, and every piece is beautifully illustrated here. Each stage of the process has been recorded by photographer Robert Walker, including the felling of the oak and the replanting of the Tatton Estate with acorns from the tree by local schoolchildren. The powerful simplicity of the onetree concept makes this one of the most original and inspiring creative projects to have been instigated in many years-a practical demonstration of the endless renewal of our natural resources, and of new life springing from old.

Not the best, but not much out there.......2004-02-15
I am a WWII British sweetheart collector. This book is known as "The Black Book". He also wrote another, which I reccomend, called "Antique Sweetheart Jewelry" (the red book). Both are good additions to any sweetheart collectors library. Now to the book. It has great photos. They are probably the books most valuable asset. You will be able to find things more by the photos than the descriptions or the sections. The problems with this book are numerous. At least one color plate is mirrored. Several pins were photographed upside down. The prices are not even close to accurate. If they were I would be a millionare. (but this is a commomn problemn with any antique price guide book, if you want to find out the current price of things, go to eBay or a militaria fair) He also has many, many pins in the wrong category. British war relief are misidentified and put in with international sweethearts. Some WWI are in mixed in with WWII. The book, while an excellent tool, is far from perfect and should not be taken as the difinitive voice in sweetheart collecting. I would love to see Mr. Snider do another book and focus *only* on sweetheart jewelry. Leave out the ephemera, compacts, hankies and all the other bits and bobs he tries to jam in this book. This is a complicated type of jewelry to collect. Anyone with the brains and money enough to put a new book on the market, that is accurate will have the collectors standing in line for it. If you are considering it, buy it. You will benefit from the good parts of it and just take the rest with a grain of salt.
Not the Definitive Guide We were Promised.......2001-04-02
Nick Snider's book has been credited with bringing hundreds of new collectors to the field of sweetheart jewelry. As an avid homefront jewelry collector, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. I was disappointed to find page after page of photographs with hardly any description or even identification! World War I jewelry was mixed together in the same photo with jewelry from World War II. Pins from American war relief organizations were listed under "foreign". Short essays at the beginning of each chapter were informative, but hard to relate to the pieces displayed with them. In my judgement, homefront and sweetheart jewelry collectors will still be looking for that "definitive guide" to our avocation.

Customer Reviews:
Sweetheart Collector Must Have!.......2000-10-30
The book is a great source of information for all aspects of Sweetheart collecting! It covers WWI and WWII mostly. American is the main focus with a little British and Homefront thrown in. It is an invaluable source for those just starting out or a serious collector but there are some problems. The pictures are prolific BUT some so small you can hardly tell what is what. Some pins are misidentified or put into the wrong category. That does not detract from the help it will give you, mostly because there are only three guide books on the market that deal with sweetheart jewelry. The price guide is way, way off and some of the information must be taken with a grain of salt. I would say buy it if you collect but if you want to know prices, go to eBay or a militaria fair and talk to the real experts. Mr. Snider needs to research better, proof his books better and really focus on sweethearts. If this is supposed to be a book on sweetheart jewelry, leave out the playing cards, posters, stickers, banners, pillow covers and all the other junk he jams in this book. If that stuff was not there, the photos would be better and so would the help the book offers.
A Different Way to look at WWI & WWII.......2000-04-24
This wonderful, comprehensive book, is a true joy to not only read but have in your collection. It affords easy access to a wide variety of sweetheart jewelry - the homefront equivilant of medals and patches - with concise, easy to read explanations of each piece. The pricing guide at the end of the book is especially useful when buying - or selling - a piece of history. A MUST read and own book for any sweetheart jewelry collector!

I love Bebop but um...........2005-05-11
I love Cowboy Bebop and I've enjoyed reading the manga so far (a must for any Bebop fan as I really think that it captures the spirit of the show) but um...when I got my copy of volume three part of the first chapter was reprinted twice and I missed out on half of the Ed story. Did this happen to anyone else?
This should actually be 3.5 stars..........2004-02-26
I enjoyed this book but I still have a few complaints...
There were only 2 stories within, but they were both kinda long so I guess that's OK. But my real complaint is that if this is the '3rd and last' book of Cowboy Bebop, then why doesnt it have a proper ending? That kinda annoys me...oh well.
Now on to the good points. Although the second story 'Fight for your RIght' didnt interest me that much, the first, 'What's your number', was so beautiful it touched me in a way I never felt again until reading book 4 of Chobits when Manager Ueda tells his story about his persocom.
This sweet little story is about Ed being reunited with 'Tomato', (and you thought that was just her COMPUTER'S name, huh?) and all the trouble they go through to outsmart a government conspiracy to block the earth from the net using a virus that they created themselves 3 years ago.
I just wish that happened in the anime...
The third and last Cowboy Bebop manga.......2003-08-24
Cowboy Bebop has been no doubt one of the biggest anime titles ever, and it still is. And the graphic novels by Tokyopop, are no exception. Despite the fact that some people are a little disappointed in these Bebop novels, I actually think all three of them are pretty awesome. They added some traditional anime humor in these novels, including extreme adult content. Basically something you don't normally see in the original anime series. But anyway, on with the review on Volume 3 !
This is the third and the last of the Bebop manga (I already know about Cain Kuga's two volumed "Shooting Stars") by Yutaka Nanten. I love reading this one the most for some odd reason, but sadly it includes 2 stories. I was really expecting four or five chapters like on the first two volumes. Instead there are only two long chapters. But at least both chapters proved to be impressive, nonetheless. The art on each page is beautifully drawn (even if they don't look too identical to their anime counterparts) and the storylines on each chapter are pretty amazing. Normally I would tell you guys about the stories, but when it comes to reviewing books, I can't spoil any surprises, so you're on your own.
So in the end, Volume 3 is a good book to pick up and read over and over again, but it would've been nice if they had more chapters in it. That way it would last longer. But it was a good thing that each chapter is long. Anyway, starting your collection on the Cowboy Bebop graphic novels is not hard. Three volumes on the first novels by Yutaka Nanten and two volumes on Cain Kuga's "Shooting Stars". If you want a manga that would keep you entertained for hours, look no further than the Cowboy Bebop graphic novels.
The best book out of the 3.......2003-07-19
I got this book with the other two (on the same day) and read them in order. This is the third and last book out of the series (not including Shooting Star) and my favorite one. Instead of several short stories, this consists of 2 really long ones. You get a feel for the story more because they're longer. The first story is What's Your Number and the main character's Ed! She has a big bounty on her head by the Earth's government for being part of a terrorist hacking group, and the crew of the Bebop don't know where she is! This one was fun to read because you learn more about Ed's past and meet an old 'friend' of hers (who happens to have a crush on her!) The real jem of this book is the second story, Fight For Your Right. It starts when a man hires a trucker to take him to Venus. He tells the trucker to go in the middle of nowhere, but it happens to be a secret hyperspace gate! The man forgets something on the ship and thinks that the trucker stole it. Later, Spike hires the same trucker to take him to Mars to turn in a bounty. Spike finds the thing that the man lost in the trucker's ship, and is confronted with him in the secret hyperspace gate. The man fires at him, but he's still on the trucker's ship with no weapons! I loved this story from start to finish. It reminded me of an episode of Bebop, and made me with they thought of it sooner so it could have been! There was plenty of action and suspense to please any Bebop fan. If you're going to get one Cowboy Bebop book, get this one. It's rated 13+ for violence, language, and brief nudity. See you space cowboy...

A little miffed.......2003-08-20
I love Cowboy Bebop, and I'm very happy to have the book, but I would have been far more pleased if the poster contained inside hadn't been ripped in half. Shippers? Please be a little more careful when you box the merchandise, huh?
Not impressed, if this was half the price, then its worth it.......2003-06-22
I'm a huge Cowboy Bebop fan, I own the series on DVD and preordered the movie a long time ago. I bought this book thinking that it would be full of cool facts and info that you wouldn't pick up from the actual DVD, but it's really just a synopsis of each episodes with a bunch of pictures from each episode. There are a few pages of extras, but they are mostly some rough sketches and short bios, nothing really worth the price of this book.
If this was half the price, it might be worth it, but even then I would only suggest this for the absolute collector that must have every Cowboy Bebop related piece of merchandise out there, regardless of quality. For the casual fan, or even the more fanatic, it's simply not worth the money.
Great source for information..........2003-04-29
The 'cowboy Bebeop Anime Guide 1' -the first out of six volumes- starts off with a few character bios, then gives summaries and information on the first six episodes of the series. The last few chapters deal with the setting of Cowboy Bebop universe, with a chapter explaining about bounty hunters along with files on the items used by the characters and lots of sketches on everything from the types of spacesuits used to the character of Vicious.
The information is interesting, but most of it can be found if you have the DVDs. This book would make a good gift for Cowboy Bebop fans who have everything else or for people who need the information at their fingertips, like fan fiction writers. Lots of color pictures right from the anime help fill out the work but it still feels kind of weak.
Insider's Guide to a Space Cowboy's Life..........2002-09-10
When I snatched (actually purchased) this book, I was instantly drawn in. I mean drawn in. The images are clear and crisp, and I enjoyed reading the play-by-play mode of the episode summaries. While the book doesn't contain my favorite session, I absolutely loved viewing the screencaps of Spike's life courtesy of Session 5: Ballad of Fallen Angels. In the back is an art file filled with black & white drawings of the characters. Interesting and filled with information for any die-hard Bebop fan, the Cowboy Bebop Anime Guide is a definitive must.
Good but there is a light........2002-07-12
This is a good book that i enjoyed reading over and over again but you can get the same books at barnesandnoble for 1 dollar cheaper and if you bye two there is no shipping fee.

Me and a bunch of my friends sat outside and laughed at this book. We would answer the questions and see how we compared. We learned alot about each other and had a great time. We would get funny looks we were laughing so hard but hey we had a great time with this one. It is a good book and recommended as a party book. Don't worry too much if your answers don't match the books though, some of mine didn't.

I laughed the whole way through this treasure trove...and picked up lots of useful information along the rioutous way.
Book Description
With more Americans than ever investing in the stock market, has money become more important than sex? Is money the real obsession of our time?
This book offers a charming and whimsical look at how we think about and behave with money -- our attitudes and idiosyncrasies about every aspect of our finances, from the way we organize money to how we save it, invest it, spend it, agonize over it, cheat for it, and use it as a badge. Kanner pulls together a myriad of surveys, statistics, and factoids to reveal our very personal relationship to money. Sometimes surprising, sometimes hilarious, the results are riveting.
Did you know that 25 percent of us would abandon all our friends for $10 million? If you're like most people, you store your paper currency in rigid order -- from singles to larger denominations. More than half of us would rather talk about a friend's marital problems than his or her shaky finances.
This book also reveals our approach to the fiscal fundamentals -- when we first start handling money (by age 16 most people have a checking account), whether we pay our credit card balances in full (49 percent do), and whether we pay our taxes voluntarily (83 percent do, according to the IRS).
But the most intriguing revelations are those we say under our breath -- how we really feel and act and what money means to us.

The crazy things people do with their hard earned money........2004-04-20
For the past 13 years, my work as a financial consultant has given me the good fortune to work with so many inspired and curious individual investors and their families. I'm constantly amazed by what people admit they've done with their important money decisions.
In this book, people will find comfort in the fact that they are not alone in the confusing world of personal finance. I read this book with a huge grin on my face as I was reminded of countless interactions with clients at one of the nations busiest financial service firms. At times however, I couldn't help focusing, not on the question posed by the title, "Are you normal about money?", but by the survey's findings about people who are considered in the minority about their decisions.
What do the few know that the masses do not? For example, the writer posed the question to those surveyed: "Do you plan on working after retirement?" Sixty-four percent say "yes". Work after retirement? Is that right? Well, I guess that is a good thing, because according to the book, only 23% have individual retirement accounts. And of those who do have them, seven times as many favor regular IRAs over Roth IRA's. With the current projections on the Social Security system, it would certainly pay to be ab-normal here, and in other instances throughout the book. Most experts and the overwhelming number of my clients who have significant IRA's, Roth IRA's especially, will admit that they feel much better prepared than the have-not's in this area.
Unfortunately, a majority of the US population that is without retirement savings. I guess it is no wonder that 21% of Americans, according to this book, would swallow a worm for $200. Would you?
A simply fascinating read for its quintessential insights.......2003-04-19
Are You Normal About Money? by Bernice Kanner is an amusing quiz book drawn from bloomberg.com surveys, and Madison Avenue industry sources, about the general population's views (on average) toward a variety of money matters. Presenting a host of ethical and philosophical money-related questions alongside statistics reflecting how people have answered, from "Would you have sex for money?" (60% no, 6.7% yes, 20.4% it depends on who with) to "Ever contribute to political campaigns?" (two-thirds of us never do), Are You Normal About Money? is a simply fascinating read for its quintessential insights about average human nature when confronting money and money management issues.
Hurray! I'm normal!.......2001-11-11
Hurray! I'm normal! Just when I thought some of my spending habits and monetary practices were unique to me alone, I find myself right up there with the other 43%, or 72%, or 80% of the country. Bernice Kanner has written a fascinating, funny, and may I add highly informative guide to how people spend and consider their money. It is fun to read, and I'll probably give it as a gift to those who appreciate the facts behind the myths about money -starting with my daughter who, at 13, is already lobbying for her own charge account.
