From Skeptical To Supporter.......2007-08-02
I have to admit that I was skeptical of Rick Joyner. I have visited Morningstar in Charlotte, NC several times and at times felt it was shallow and not biblically balanced. However, my views have changed. This is not to say that I don't disagree with Joyner or Morningstar International because I do but that seems to be part of being human. None of us have perfect knowledge (1 Corinthians 13:8-13).
Therefore, when I was given this book I at first read it with a skeptical eye. I was looking for error. The irony is that this is a good book. Joyner, contrary to some of the other views given, does not promote mystical Christianity at all in this book. In fact, I found that Joyner does a good job of wrestling with the Scriptures. The book's focus is on Jesus and Joyner wants the reader not to simply have a head knowledge of Jesus but a living, vital relationship with Jesus. If that is mysticism then count me in. Joyner attacks denominations and doctrines that divide but he balances this with an emphasis on loving Jesus and sharing unity in Him. He is not pushing for blind obedience without sound doctrine but he does desire for the Church to love each other more and that is a lesson we all need to hear and obey (John 13:34-35).
Overall this is a solid book. For those skeptical of Rick Joyner and his ministry I believe you will realise that Joyner is not as far out there as you might think. In fact, you might just become a supporter as I am.
Real Insight.......2007-05-14
Joyner has received revelation not common to the "big names". He is not afraid to relate the uncomfortable reality that the way up is down
Revelations.......2007-01-19
Occasionally you read a book that opens the door to your heart for an amazing revelation from God. This is one of those. The author begins by showing that there is just as much death in the knowledge of good as there is in the knowledge of evil. It sounds simplistic, but this book helped me shift my focus from trying harder to growing more in love with Jesus getting to know more of him. The change is amazing. I highly recommend the book.
Enlightening .......2006-07-17
The author opened my eyes to a truth that I had never realized. Glory to God.
Foundational insight.......2006-07-07
This book presents a foundational insight based on the Garden of Eden experience of Adam and Eve: Are we interested in knowledge, or life? This principle applies to so many of the moral choices that we face.
Reading this book was a life-changing experience for me.

A Must for Your Family!.......2000-10-15
This is the first review I have ever written. My 7 year old daughter and I found this book to be outstanding. The illustrations and text are dynamic. We read this chapter book every evening for a week. My daughter could not wait to go to bed so that we could read the next chapter. Today I am looking for other "Treasure Tree Adventure's" by Dr. Trent. Please read this story, it also makes a great gift for any child.
Book Description
As recently as 1924, a lone Algonquin Indian lived quietly in Pelham Bay Park, a wild and isolated corner of New York City. Joe Two Trees was the last of his people, and this is the gripping story of his bitter struggle, remarkable courage, and constant quest for dignity and peace.
By the 1840s, most of the members of Joe’s Turtle Clan had either been killed or sold into slavery, and by the age of thirteen he was alone in the world. He made his way into Manhattan, but was forced to flee after killing a robber in self defense; from there, he found backbreaking work in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Finally, around the time of the Civil War, Joe realized there was no place for him in the White world, and he returned to his birthplace to live out his life alone—suspended between a lost culture and an alien one. Many years later, as an old man, he entrusted his legacy to the young Boy Scout who became his only friend, and here that young boy’s son passes it on to us.
Theodore Kazimiroff, the son of Joe Two Trees’s young confidant, writes historical, environmental, and natural history articles for several magazines. He lives in Bayville, New York.

One Indian's story.......2007-09-10
I first read this book many years ago and bring it out every so often to refresh Two Trees' persona in my mind. This book is full of the author's love for his subject and he passes this on to the reader with great art. The story is in some ways so terribly sad that it is almost unbearable, but Two Trees and his love for nature and his dog can really only ultimately express joy and wonder. I just love this book and hope everyone who reads it follows Two Trees' wish to pass this extraordinary story along.
A beautiful story..........2003-05-22
Joe Two Trees is the last of his tribe. New York in the early twentieth century is not for him. Or is it? As a native New Yorker with a passion for the past, I loved this beautiful story. Whenever I return home, I can no longer visit the Bronx (especially Pelham Bay) without thinking of Joe and his relationship with Theodore Kazimoroff's father. The writing is lovely, and the story evokes all sorts of feelings at so many levels. It was my Aunt, a former teacher, who told me that I should read this book. It has become one of those novels that I recommend to others regularly.
Sublime.......2003-05-14
Some people talk about spirit like it is taught in "Indian 101", but you can experience something very soulful and ancient in the words and earth here.
A sad and touching tale.......2002-11-22
The Last Algonquin is a sad but heartwarming story about a man and his attempts to come to grips with his place in the world. The fact that this man, Joe Two Trees, is the last of his tribe of the Algonquin's makes his journey that much harder and more interesting. If you are looking for an official history of the American Indians, this isn't the book for you. However, if you are looking for a deep and touching story of one American Indian, and what we as a nation have lost by ignoring the heritage of American Indians, then you will enjoy this book. Mr. Kazimiroff has done an excellent job of preserving the story given to him by his father and keeping the memory of Joe Two Trees and the Algonquin Indians alive.
An Insightful & Fascinating "Hand-Me Down" Story.......2002-04-21
This is a must read, especially for those of us raised in the Pelham Bay section of Bronx. The tale of The Last Algonquin is inspiring and heartwarming. And, I hope that Mr. Kazimiroff realizes that he has given The Bronx, the Algonquin Indians and his father the immortality they truly deserve.
Remember as long as someone tells( hears or reads) this tale, the story of Joe Two Trees will continue to live on among the rocks and trees of Pelham Bay Park.

Book Description
Two young brothers born in Germany were deported with their family to France and held in a detention camp. Their parents were transferred to Rivesaltes. Two years later they were sent to Drancy and from there they were deported to their final destination - Auschwitz. Meanwhile the two brothers were rescued from the detention camp by the OSE (a Jewish organization) and the Quakers. They were shuffled between orphanages in France and Switzerland. Eventually they were separated. After the war Fred, the older brother, made his way to the United States, where he became a rocket scientist. His work brought him in contact with Werner von Braun. The younger brother, Menachem, came to Israel, where he took part in Israel's wars. He raised a family and devoted himself to a career in education.
For many years there was almost no contact between the brothers, but recently they felt a need to talk about their experiences, especially with their grandchildren. They renewed their connection with each other and together they wrote the gripping story of their childhood.
This is one of the most touching memoirs to come to light in recent years. The unusual narrative style, the conversations between the brothers as they attempt to bridge the missing years, their appeal to their grandchildren and in fact to all our grandchildren, cannot fail to move the reader.

A wonderful deck that most may overlook................2006-09-26
Last year when I saw this deck online, something about it called to me. The artwork was somehow comforting. I was going to get it several times and didn't for various reasons. I also adore trees and all the lore, magic and mystery about them. Well I finally got it a few weeks ago and I wish I had listened to my instincts the 1st time!
This deck is gorgeously illustrated, the artwork really jumps out at you. The words on the cards are beautiful and I find with rereading them they are deeply layered and complex and you get more from them each time. The book is small, but packed with wonderful info and spreads....10 in all. I have used about 4 of them so far, and they really give a great reading...true but yet very complex. In the book each card is explained in more detail. They are about the size of tarot cards and are of heavy cardstock so they will stand the test of time, but not too thick so they are unwieldy.
Using this deck has brought me much peace, insights, ideas, comfort and so much more. If you are drawn to this deck do not hesitate to get it, you will love it!
Loved The Concept!!!.......2006-03-31
I love this little book and deck of cards. I can't say enough about the wonderful artwork, the detail about trees, the magic that trees hold and how pleasant the cards are to read.
If you like Tarot cards and are looking for a unique deck to add to your collection, buy these now!

Customer Reviews:
Anti Christian .......2007-10-11
While I admit that Pullman has considerable skill as a writer, I'd like to warn others that these books are blatantly anti-Christian. Do a simple Google search of the authors name or the book titles and you'll find plenty to concern you IF you are Christian.
Be aware of what you are indoctrinating your kids with!.......2007-10-10
Parents, before you offer these "fantasy" reads for your kids be aware that this author is promoting atheism and these books are anti-christian, anti-church and anti-God. Be Careful, and be sure that this is what you intend to teach and encourage in your children. I have to give all of these books a thumbs down based on my personal values and beliefs.
Wonderful for young and old alike.......2007-10-08
I am not at all ashamed to admitt that I am a 27 year old person, and I absolutly LOVED all of these books. The author, Pullman, gives such colorful and imaginative explinations that I would actually find it HARD not to fall in love with the main character, Lyra, and her friend, Will. Not to mention the scores of other colorful characters that fit into Lyra and Wills' adventures. I found myself so atatched to Lyra and the other characters in this book that I actually shed a tear MORE THAN ONCE during my readings. I highly recommend this seris of books not only for familys or the newly independent readers, but also for adults who like fantasy fiction books. I have found myself thinking about these books and these characters long after I retired them to my library.
Not good.......2007-10-06
Do all of you realize that the author of these books is an Atheist? He is AGAINST any Christian whether Catholic or non-Catholic. This is NOT a set of books that you want your kids to read. And I really believe that no adult should read these books either. This man Pullman does not like C.S. Lewis or any Christian for that matter. I don't see why any Christian would buy and read these books.
The author is going to use the movie to pull your children in to read these anti-Christian books. I've read that the movie is not as bad as the first book is. This is to lure you in and then to buy the books and then to see the other movies if this man gets that far with the other two movies. We Christians have to stand together and boycott these books.
his dark materials.......2007-10-05
I enjoyed the entire harry potter series very much, but phillip pullman's his dark materials is even better!

Book Description
cott Westerfeld, acclaimed author of Fine Prey, Poly-morph, and Evolution's Darling, reached new heights of excitement in last spring's The Risen Empire and left readers begging for more. He delivers the dazzling payoff in Book Two of Succession, The Killing of Worlds. The immortal Emperor can grant a form of eternal life-after-death, creating an elite known as the Risen, and so has ruled the eighty worlds unchallenged for sixteen hundred years. The only thing he fears are the Rix, machine-augmented humans who worship AI compound minds. They are dedicated to replacing his prolonged rule with an eternal cybernetic dynasty of their own. Having failed the emperor once (through no fault of his own) and shocking everyone by declining ritual suicide, brilliant tactician Captain Laurent Zai of the Imperial Frigate Lynx now faces a suicide mission instead: stopping the next thrust of the Rix invasion with just his own ship. While ship-to-ship combat rages among the stars, Zai's lover, Senator Nara Oxham, is caught in a deadly political fencing match with the Emperor himself. The Emperor has a terrible secret, a secret Nara is in danger of finding out, a secret for which he would countenance the killing of worlds.
Customer Reviews:
Blame a "certain large bookstore chain" for the chop-job.......2004-10-05
Westerfeld's website mentions that both books were intended as one, but a book chain balked at the 700-page length and demanded that it be cut in half (same thing that happened to Behemoth), to answer those criticizing the shortness of the two books.
Anyway, this is truly smart and savvy space-opera, and without any aliens peeking their tendrils around any airlocks, and recently this has been one of my favourite types of SF book - the kind that skips over aliens entirely, which is good because most writers do an awful job of making them into more than stereotypes of some aspect of human behaviour (i.e can't make them alien enough). Westerfled would probably do a good job if he tried, but the Rix are sufficiently removed from modern humanity to qualify, and the other tribe of humanity we get a glimpse of (the Plague Axis) are also very original and a concept that does make a certain amount of sense.
Having read Evolution's Darling first, I was surprised by the difference in these two books - a bit lighter but also much more fun and enjoyable, yet still with very dark elements. Definitely more mainstream than Evolution's Darling, and a better pair of books overall.
Westerfeld also knows how to write-up a good rip-roaring space battle between only two ships, and give some of the terminology used in the book (Spinward Reaches? Sandcasters?) I think he may have been a Traveler player in a previous life...
Overall, nothing bad to say about these books, other than the need to read them consecutively to really enjoy them. Here's hoping for a third.
Incredibly well written.......2004-08-01
Many of the other reviews of this book (The Risen Empire and The Killing of Worlds are effectively one book) rightly praise its exciting plot, imaginative science fiction, and well-developed characters. I wanted to highlight my favorite aspect of the book: how extraordinary the language is.
It has an incredibly spare - at times even poetic - quality. Without spoiling the plot, let me mention in particular the poignant scenes between H_rd and Rana, as well as Nara Oxham's climactic speech. I am hard pressed to name a science fiction writer whose prose comes close. Even the typography and page layout contribute to this aesthetic.
In fairness, a less ardent fan would probably feel that the same devices get over-used, and that The Killing of Worlds is noticeably stronger than The Risen Empire. Nevertheless, Westerfeld has definitely produced some memorable writing within an already great science fiction novel.
Amazing Space Opera, Few Flaws.......2004-07-26
If you are looking for a great space opera (and like me you are a big Dune Fan) this is the series for you. As you may have read from other reviews book 1 and 2 are really one book and many people who bought book 1 felt a little ripped off for having to buy book two but since i got both of them out from my library, I didn't care and was just overjoyed that book 2 was already out. What made this book unique was that every chapter was short, fast paced, and told from a different characters perspective. Laurent Zia's endless cliffhanger space battles got a little tiring and the emporers secret was built up so much you are bound to get let down a little but those are really my only criticims of the book. The ideas in the book are real brain teasers and i felt a sense of conclusion and anticipation of a possible third book. Awesome read!!!!
First Rate Space Opera, about Immortality and AIs.......2004-02-01
This is the sequel to Westerfeld's earlier novel The Risen Empire, and it completes the story. They are really one long novel, and should be considered together.
I enjoyed the books a great deal. They are exciting, intelligent, and thought-provoking, with a pretty interesting political setup. As the book opens, the sister of the Emperor of the Eighty Worlds is being attacked, on a provincial world called Legis, by missiles from the Rix, and a team has been sent by the new Imperial warship Lynx to try to save her. The opening sequence, then, is a long and exciting battle scene, featuring some cool weaponry (such as the teleoperated, gnat-size, scout ships).
Some explanation seems needed, and is slowly given us. The Eighty Worlds are one subset of the human-colonized Galaxy. They are ruled by the Emperor, who is immortal. The secret of immortality is controlled by the Emperor, who doles it out as a favor to political favorites, rich people, war heroes, and the like. The Emperor's sister is also called "the Reason", as it was apparently her illness that drove the Emperor to develop the immortality process, some 1600 years previously. The power of the immortal aristocracy means that the Eighty Worlds are somewhat technologically conservative, and for one thing they resist the development of AI's, which tend to form spontaneously once a planetwide network becomes big enough. The Rix are a fanatical cult of women, cyborgically enhanced, who believe the only purpose of humanity is to foster the development of these AIs, whom they worship as gods, more or less. The Rix resent the Eighty Worlds' position re AIs, and 80 years previously they fought a war, attempting to take over Imperial worlds to allow their networks to grow and form AIs. This new strike at the Emperor's sister seems an attempt at restarting the war, and indeed the Rix manage to push the Legis network to become self-aware, and it names itself Alexander.
Any attempt to further explain the political and naval machinations that follow (and I started one) grows very complicated: better to read the book, I think. The story follows several characters. The main ones are Laurent Zai, a damaged war hero and the Captain of the Lynx; and his secret lover, Senator Nara Oxham, leader of the "pink" faction that opposes the rule of the immortals and the consequent social stagnation. Various other characters include a Rix commando who escapes the original battle and is recruited by Alexander to try to help him propagate; several other crewmembers of the Lynx, especially including the beautiful executive officer, Katherie Hobbes, who has fallen for Zai, having no idea that he is committed to Oxham; Jocim Marx, the Lynx's Master Pilot, who controls the teleoperated scouts in the various battles; Oxham's House, which shows signs of becoming an AI itself; and Rana Harter, a brain-damaged savant on Legis who is kidnapped by the Rix commando and falls in love with her. The action ends up concerning a dangerous Imperial Secret that the Emperor wants concealed especially from his own people, political maneuvering on the Imperial capitol world that might destroy Oxham's career -- or break apart the Empire; some desperate actions by the Rix commando to try to reconnect the planetary network to allow Alexander offplanet communication; and some exciting and intriguingly designed space battles, as Zai must fight off the Rix warship while trying to avoid the potentiality of orders to destroy Legis. And there are of course a few surprising developments.
As I said, I really liked thse books. The tech is fascinating and well-imagined. The ideas, especially concerning immortality but also some other human modifications, are both SFnally cool and thematically engaging. I will say that the final revelation of the Emperor's Secret was a mild letdown, and it made some of what went before seem a little less important -- but perhaps I was simply asking too much. I still think this first-rate Space Opera, and considered as a unit, one of the best SF novels of 2003.
Well, I tried to read it........2004-01-06
I was sorely disappointed by the first book--it just ended almost (but not quite) mid-sentence, as though the editor at TOR divided the original manuscript half-way and said, "Viola! We now have two books instead of one!" What a writer cannot deliver, an editor surely can.
That said, this book fails in its beginning--as the other failed in its ending. I just couldn't pick up the story as though this were a two-part television show or miniseries.
Don't get me wrong. I am not criticizing the writer or the writing. The only way I could recommend reading this is if the reader were to purchase both the first book and this one, and read them both right after the other (as they were clearly intended to be). Unfortunately, that's a rather expensive proposition, and there are books a'plenty out there where a reader only has to pay once, instead of twice, for a beginning, a middle, and an end.
As for the writer, I recommend that he find another publisher who will treat his work with respect and professionalism. Perhaps he will get lucky and many of us will forget his name is associated with this marketing travesty. As for the editor...well, publishers don't generally put the editor's name on a book, do they? In this case that's a shame, because it would better highlight who is to blame for ruining what would otherwise be a good book.

I have found this book to have tremendous recipes, and most are low fat. Everything I have tried works to perfection. My only complaint, is the pan sizes are not real. Like many recipes call for an 81/2x81/2x4 one quart dish. There is no such dish.
