PASS.......2007-08-14
This book is written as ugly as Hederick looks on the cover. It ambles along like I imagine Hederick walks, all out of breath and stuggling to make it to the end.
My dog tore up the book the other morning, and I can only imagine that she read it and felt the same way I do about this book.
A very good book!.......2001-10-26
By the end of this book, even though I knew Hederick survived to see the Chronicles, I wanted this guy dead!
The Seekers were evil. Their methods were cruel & their reasons made you want to pull your hair out. Hederick was the worst of them all.
Villain's great, but the hero deserved to be grated.......1999-03-16
This book is a combination of two extremes: on one hand, a detailed, capturing portrait of the nefarious Hederick, no more than three pages in the "Chronicles" Saga. On the other hand... a pathetic group of mismatched "heroes": a seventy year-old ex-Seeker, a misguided but well-meaning mage, a thief who seems to be the only sensible character, and centaurs and kender and slaves for no reason than they could be there. There are some pointless chapters but a lot of good scenes with Hederick. If you can get past the fact there isn't much of a good guy to root for, you can see one of the best examples of villany in this book, in the title character.
The Origion of the Seekers.......1998-03-01
I have read a few other books set in Solace and I heard of the Seekers. Didn't really know what they were 'till now. Hederick starts out in a small village where he worships a false god. Then a Seeker preist comes into town and converts Hederick. Then when his cleric sister comes back tot he town, he is forced to "Clense" it. He then goes on to become the world's most powerful religious leader.

Product Description
The Theocrat takes as its subject one of Arab and Islamic historys most perplexing figures, al-Hakim bi-Amr Illah ("the ruler by order of God"), the Fatimid caliph who ruled Egypt during the tenth century and whose career was a direct reflection of both the tensions within the Islamic dominions as a whole and of the conflicts within his own mind. In this remarkable novel Bensalem Himmich explores these tensions and conflicts and their disastrous consequences on an individual ruler and on his people. Himmich does not spare his readers the full horror and tragedy of al-Hakims reign, but in employing a variety of textual styles - including quotations from some of the best known medieval Arab historians; vivid historical narratives; a series of extraordinary decrees issued by the caliph; and, most remarkably, the inspirational utterances of al-Hakim during his ecstatic visions, recorded by his devotees and subsequently a basis for the foundation of the Druze community - he succeeds brilliantly in painting a portrait of a character whose sheer unpredictability throws into relief the qualities of those who find themselves forced to cajole, confront, or oppose him.

Twists and turns at every corner.......2006-02-27
Welcome to the maze! So much drama you'll have an ulcer! I couldn't finish this series because the main female character was too wishy washy in EVERYTHING. It takes her 10+ books to TRY and take a stand. She doesn't know who to love, and really has too many mixed feelings. Where do they all hide?! The author has more than a love triangle. The relationship triangles are all mixed and mashed. More than necessary and overly complex. Though she still makes it easy to follow. Again, the main character doesn't fall far from the clueless tree as she continues to do everything without really thinking. Which causes slave drivers, adopted brothers, and a childhood love to clash all for her sake.
And though the story has it's twists, it's predictable. As to why it continues baffles me.
For those who are interested in high drama that follows the american day time soap opera...beware because this is MORE than just a soap. If you like that, GOOD LUCK! If you don't, break out the alkaseltzer.
cheers!
Enslave thy neighbor....part 8........2005-10-29
After slapping Hatsumi in front of the entire complex, including her brother, Shinogu, everyone makes a fuss. Mariko, the Tachibana's maid, tends to Hatsumi while Mrs. Tachibana makes excuses for Ryoki. Hatsumi decides it was her fault though and apologizes profusely to Ryoki while Mrs. Tachibana begins to undermine their relationship, by inviting the daughter of a friend to share in Ryoki's study sessions. This begins to work as Hatsumi's issues of inadequacy resurface. Meanwhile, it becomes clear that Shinogu has strong feelings for her, even to Hatsumi, when she and Asahi begin to work with him at a coffee shop. Well, we can actually thank Asahi (Subaru`s older sister), who has been in love with Shinogu for ages, for leaking this information to Hatsumi. Ryoki tries to make Hatsumi forget about the other men in her life, but it is difficult to do when Shinogu passes out at work due to sheer exhaustion, what possesses that boy to work as hard as he does? And why is he so desperate to sever his ties with the Narita family?
This series is still going strong, and it's making me a huge fan of the creator. I must pick up more work by him/her (?). In the meantime I am eagerly awaiting volume ten, but you should catch up and read the previous work, it's delicious I tell you.
Poor Hatsumi, soap opera without the cheese!.......2005-05-25
I'm glad to hear that Hatsumi is gaining more self-esteem. The character development, the drama! This series gets you reading every page. I never thought I'd read a shoujo manga, but this got me wrong. Hatsumi is such a good down-to-earth person, Azusa, a scheming prettyboy, Ryoki a genius in school, but knows nothing about treating a woman right, much less getting some. And Shinogu, I'm rooting for him. This is teenage life, and damn, I feel sorry for how trapped Hatsumi is on every corner of life.
One of the Best in the Series.......2005-05-09
Ryoki just gets better and better with every volume. This time, we see him stand up for Hatsumi when his mother tries to push a relationship with a very rich, but snobby girl, on him.
Also, Hatsumi seems to be learning how to stand up for herself more and more. I was glad to see this development in her character, and I hope that she will continue to become more assertive.
Last, there's a very sweet extra about the gang when they were kids. It's about what really happened when Hatsumi first moved to the complex. There's going to be a continuation on this, I think, and I'm looking forward to it.
Volume 8 was very satisfying. If you're a fan of the series, then you should definitely read it.
The Most Intense Volume Yet!.......2005-03-18
I think Volume 8 is the most suspenseful part yet. In this volume, Hatsumi really expresses herself when Mrs. Tachibana invites a rich, pretty, and very smart girl to study with Ryoki. There's a lot of tension over the adoption papers she found at Shinogu's apartment and he is becoming more and more distant from her.
This volume is a MUST-READ for Hot Gimmick fans and it also shows how Hatsumi's stairs incident happened.

Customer Reviews:
I'm Sure The Quality of this Book will Surprise You.......2005-10-07
Stuart Hopen did not exactly burst onto the scene in 1995 with "Warp Angel". Since then it's unclear what he's been up to. I've managed to track down obscure references to another book called "Daemon Mask", which appears to be out of print. Beyond that, he languishes in obscurity. Which is certainly a shame, because "Warp Angel" is one for the ages. It is the "War and Peace" of crud. It is bad. How bad. This bad:
Peeling off his shirt, he felt waves of dry, oppressive heat on his skin, the ship's climate controls straining against winter. Weighted by his hologrammed belt, Chev's pants hit the ground. Carefully, he unwrapped the tongs of his scrotal shield and flung it aside. It landed near the knife, clattering in the Devil-haunted shadows.
''He told himself, There is no stopping now. If she can see the future, she knows what will happen next. He took her face into his hands. Surrounding her mouth with his own, he took a deep taste.
She choked as she pulled away, wiping crusts of dried blood from her lips.
"I'm sorry," he said. Her underrgarments twisted in his fingers as he jerked them loose.
Ivor nested closer, trying to sample Chev's desire.'' (p. 206)
"Warp Angel" is not a good book. It has been remarked that with a master, you can take just about any passage and finds examples of his or her brilliance. Similarly, most any page of "Warp Angel" coughs up a sample of atrocious prose. Hopen simply has no clue how to write. He bounces around using the wrongs words, wrong sentences, wrong organization. One hardly knows where to begin in cataloguing the blows that the English language suffers here. Names. The world this story occurs here is called Draconian - so much for subtlety - a city is named Dante and is built in circles, ooogh. Nothing is worse than an author with faux pretensions to cleverness.
I could try explaining what this book is about, but if I did you would likely question my sanity. It has something to do with slavery and a women fighting to rescue her husband. Beyond that no one can say, least of all the author. He can't even decide who the main character is. One candidate, Magen, swings back and forth between being a child and an adult. Characters turn on their friends for no reason, betray or simply ignore their supposed ideals. Ideas are dropped, never to be mentioned again. And the books doesn't end. It merely stops in mid-scene, mid-act, mid-conflict.
When treating with a book so utterly incoherent, there's nothing I can say that accurately conveys what's wrong with it. What were they thinking? Did Tor publish this stinker (in hardcover!) without even reading it? Did no one notice that you can't pull the slightest hint of a story out of this thing? What's going on here? I can make one observation about something staying consistent throughout the whole book. Every female character, at every time, wears absurdly skimpy and revealing clothes. I think that's our answer. After all, science fiction is all about sex, right? It just a bunch of pimply twelve-year-old males reading for gratification, no? That's certainly what Tor seems to believe. Uuurgghhh. This is the sort of book that give science fiction a bad name. I hope Hopen enjoys his spot on the shelf next to Jim Theis, Robert Newcomb and Pel Torro, cause he certainly deserves it.
an interesting approach to the future.......1999-05-06
As a rabbi I found this book fascinating because the author brings into this futuristic novel an intimate knowledge of Judaism. To my knowledge this is the first time that an author has done this in a Sci Fi novel. It is an outstanding book for a first time author.
I LOVED IT!!!.......1999-04-29
I loved this book! The creativity, character development, and knowledge of Judaism was so impressive for a first time author. I can't wait to see what this immensely talented author will create in the future. If you are capable of reading this review, you have to read this book. Magen, the books protagonist, practically burst out of the page as she stuggled to do what was right. The fact that it was told in the far future made it a Science Fiction lover's dream. I can, however, tell you that I don't usually enjoy the Science Fiction Genre, but this book truly broke down all bounds. I strongly recommend you read it.
This is the best book!.......1998-04-21
This is such a great book! Stuart Hopen has written a wonderful futuristic science fiction novel that everyone from nine to ninety will love. Well, maybe not for nine year olds, but this is one great book!

good recipes and plenty of them.......2007-03-20
This is the first Cooking Light recipe book I bought and it is excellent. Every recipe I've tried from here has turned out really well and was even approved by picky eaters.
Don't take this book lightly.......2005-08-04
I just recently purchased this book and in addition to using it, I pick it up nightly just to read through the great collection of recipes. I'm not sure I would consider all as "light" cooking, but if you are looking for a variety of ways to prepare foods that appear on the healthy food lists, this is the book to buy.
