Book Description
Saramago tells the story of a history professor that, by chance, discovers in a rented movie a man identical to him, and decides to go in search of him. This novel poses the essential questions of life and the search of one's own identity: What defines us as unique people? Can we assume that our voice, our characteristics, or even the smallest distinctive mark are not repeated in another person? In this book, Saramago once again explores the depths of the soul.

I didn't laugh.......2007-09-04
I kept waiting for this novel to become good, or least make me laugh. Characterization is abysmal and one dimensional. Plotting is haphazard. Setting is not well described. Pacing is slow (new characters are introduced, followed, and then abandoned). I kept telling myself 'this book is supposed to be funny, give it a chance.'
The first 125 pages rehashed Robin Hood. The second 125 pages rehashed Shakesperean Italy, heavy on the pointless duels over offended pride and accented language. The climactic battle was ok. The end wasn't an end; the quest was nowhere near finished. I think the author was trying to write a play instead of a novel, he evens ends with the word 'Intermezio'.
If you read the first one, you might remember Kraki the Barbarian, who could basically take anything out. In the sequel, Kraki serves the role of soccer ball (suddenly all the monsters kick him around). He doesn't shine. He is not a hero. No one is the party is. They are just there, warm bodies in a confused party of adventurers meandering from one situation to the next, blindly chasing after the statue.
As far as fantasy novels go, worst I've read in a long time.
Even better than the first!.......2001-09-04
Just when things had begun to take on a normal shade of boredom, Timaeus d'Asperge, and his companions are propelled on another quest. This time, they must accompany Cincianus Polymage, a man of seemingly limitless power but limited sanity, to undo the magic of the statue. However, there are still many (many, many) who want the statue; can our heroes keep the statue and take it all the way to foul Arst-Kara-Morn?
This book is great, even better than the first one (Another Day, Another Dungeon)! At times I found myself laughing out loud. Mr. Costikyan somehow succeeds in making a wonderful admixture of action and comedy. I highly recommend this book, and hope that there will be yet another sequal.
By the way, I'm still a little unclear on the whole "greep" thing, but would like to try some, myself!
A Must-Read for any Fantasy or Comedy lovers!.......1999-06-16
This book is great! Timeaus and his friends ( minus Gimli who wet to visit his family ) try to get the magic statue to Statius's Scepter, and have the statue stolen! Non-stop fun! Watch for Vic!

Windows for the Crown Prince -- Akihito of Japan.......2000-06-13
Windows for the Crown Prince - Akihito of Japan by Elizabeth Gray Vining 1952, 1989.
How much influence can one person have? The author is asked to serve as the private tutor of English for the Crown Prince by the Emperor of Japan in the post WWII era. He lives a life very isolated from the rest of the real world. Her Quaker background and her desire to help him see the "outside" world beyond palace walls helped shape the man who is the figurehead leader of Japan today. Her inside look at the life of the young future leader gives an interesting and informative look at Japan and its people at this time period. A delightful book for people who enjoy history, culture studies, memoirs and Japanese society. Easy to read and enjoy.

Julia is exquisite and brilliant, and Irwin adores her, but she only has eyes for the greatest hero of all. Can the young salesman discover his inner hero in time to win her heart?

Great fun !.......2007-05-30
Given the popularity of Shrek, this book deserves a wider audience. The author pokes fun at traditional fairy tales while advocating true virtues in a way kids will appreciate. Almost every line is laugh-out-loud hilarious. Great fun for adults to read to kids! A big hit in my daughter's second grade class. Buy a copy-your child will want to read this more than once!
The hillarious prequel to The Ugly Princess & The Wise Fool.......2005-02-25
This is the second book in Margaret Gray's delightful fairy tale series about the Kingdom of Couscous. Like the first book in the series (The Ugly Pincess and The Wise Fool), the storytelling here is fresh and funny, there are all sorts of silly and playful plot twists and turns, and, along the way, Gray manages to teach a valuable lesson without every being preachy. One of the great things about Gray's books is that they appeal strongly to younger readers and older readers alike. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Excellent book written by a Prince Hall Mason.......2007-07-02
This truly is an excellent book written by a Prince Hall Mason. It gives aan amazing account of Prince Hall Masonic history, perpective, and current state of affairs. Up until this point, most previous attempts were written by men with motives or agengas that attempts to discredit this great portion of Masonic tradition.

Customer Reviews:
Hilarious, wise, and wonderful book........2007-08-09
I just finished reading this to my 7-year-old, and was horribly frustrated each night that he would doze off or simply state that he had to sleep, and I had to stop reading. (I did cheat and read one chapter ahead once, and giggled and teased him that I knew what was going to happen.)
What can you say about a book in which a wise man has to masquerade as a fool to make a living, skilfully hiding the fact that he is anything other than a complete idiot... a third princess (who is supposed to be more beautiful than her gorgeous elder sisters, who are then expected to become witches and fly off on broomsticks, and were thus named Asphalt and Concrete to inure them to their fate) is actually born stunningly ugly...
This book is a solidly entertaining read, contains much gentle but pointed absurdity, and I am buying a copy of her other book as soon as I finish this review. You _must_ read this, if for no reason other than to learn what a "chest protector" is. Enjoy!
The Third Princess.......2007-07-29
I think it is a great book. It recieved the Christopher Award. The book is about a third princess being born. Third princesses are always the most beautifull of the three. This little Rose isn't anything like that. At first she doesn't see anything of her self not being pretty until a prince comes riding by on a noble steed, she thinks back to her beauty. All princesses have fairy godmothers so all she wanted was beauty. Will she marry the prince or descover beauty is not the way to go?
*The ugly Princess and the wise fool*.......2007-02-17
Once upon a time, a very long time ago there lived a King and a
Queen. They already had two beautiful daughters but then had a third. The third princess was born who was not beautiful. Once the whole kingdom found out, they were all in shock. Back in those days if you were a princess you had to be beautiful. When Rose was older, she heard that the Prince Parsely was coming to look for a bride, so she asked her fairy Godmother for a wish. The wish was to be beautiful. As the fairy Godmother did as Rose said, Rose was beautiful. When Rose showed up to the ball the Prince notice Rose very quickly. The Prince got down on his knee and asked Rose for a dance. They dance and dance till midnight. As soon as the dancing was over. The prince ask Rose, "Will you marry me?", And Rose said "I do". But then Rose starts realizing that she doesn't want to marry the prince, but instead her old friend Jasper. To find out what Rose decides, read this book!
a charming romp.......2007-01-03
This is one of those books about which very little bad can be said. I picked this up and was thorougly entertained from the title (how can you deny yourself such a practical title?) to the final page. The wit and personality of the writing never stops, and quirkniness reigns throughout. The writing is so matter-of-fact it's hilarious, and one is left wondering what it is these characters see in themselves!
This is a clever, funny story that gets its message across as sweetly as possible. Light and fluffy, but then again, I never had a problem with that sort of thing.
Surprisingly Very Good and Fun to Read!.......2006-09-17
I wasn't sure that I would like this story, but I gave it a try, and I loved it! I really enjoyed the humor and liked the message it had to offer with out being preachy. It was a great spoof of the way fairy tale type stories are to be. Anyway, it was fun to read and I found it quite amusing.
Book Description
Her father is determined to make her pay. It was just over a year ago that Princess Ettarde-her hand promised in marriage by her father to the power-hungry Lord Basil-escaped to the shroud of Sherwood Forest. There, Ettarde joined up with Rowan Hood's band of misfit teens, an outlaw-in-the-making and a princess no more. But now her father is determined to recapture her. He will do anything, even use his own wife-Ettarde's mother-as bait. In a cage. In the middle of Sherwood Forest. Ettarde will not stand for it, and neither will Rowan Hood.
Nancy Springer delivers a stirring battle of wit and courage in this, the third in her Tales of Rowan Hood.
Customer Reviews:
A nice little book.......2006-09-30
Book # 1 of this series is Rowan Hood, about Rowan and her ancillary band to Robin's in the Sherwood Forest. Book # 2 is Lionclaw. Book # 3 is this one about Princess Ettard, a 13 year old who is rescued by Rowan and friends from a marraige to a wealthy landowner. In this, there is more backstory to Etty, we find out more about her parents and why her father is the tyrant king he is. I haven't read Lionclaw, the book about Lionel, yet, but I don't *think* this novel would stand well on its own.
this book is a HORROR(burns eyes do not read).......2006-03-20
I give this book 2 stars. it started with a princess who wanted to be in an outlaw group. but the king is tring to stop her. overall th book was.......BAD! I wish there was more fighting in it. I think the book should have been more interesting. I would not recommend this book to other people. I hope I helped your with your decision.
(do not read it was horrible)(get a life)
Outlaw Princess Of Sherwood.......2006-03-20
The Outlaw Princess Of Sherwood was a great book. There were some parts that were awesome. It really reeled the reader in, but some parts were kind of boring.I would give it a 3 on a scale of 1-5. If you like adventurous books or if you like books with a lot of action, then this is the book for you. It was exciting and fun to read. I didn't know what was going to happen next.
outlaw princess.......2006-03-20
I thought that the book was good and everything but I really did'nt get it.I would recommend the book to people and friends. The book was a little messed up at the beginning but I finished the book. I think the book had alot of description of the characters.
I gave the book 3 stars becouse the book was o.k. and everything but the book was not that intresting and I didn't like when the princess was going to kill her father and she liked the mother better then her father.
The Outlaw Princess of Sherwood.......2006-03-20
I gave this book three stars because it had too much detail in some parts and that made it long and boring. In other parts it wasn't long enough. Some parts gave me a headache and made me not want to continue. I do not recommend this book

The book is a facsimile reproduction of a 1920's edition. The reproduction is so poor that the musical examples are virtually illegible. The illustrations are also of very poor quality.

Bill's Books.......2007-03-23
Fabulous recipes - light, simple and tasty. If you can get the ingredients they all look delicios and Bill's methods are simple and easy to follow.
Enjoy !
The Lemon-Lime Tart Should Stay in the Land Down Under.......2006-04-11
I made the Lemon-Lime Tart this evening. Bill's measurements, oven temperatures, and cooking times were all slightly off. The shortbread crust was pale, bland, and mushy. His instructions left out key details like placing a jellyroll pan underneath the tart while it baked. (Lucky for me I remembered, or my oven would have been a total disaster.)
Overall this book is pretty, has unoriginal but alluring content, and the recipes fall short. Would I recommend this to a serious cook? No. Would I recommend this book to a new cook? No. Perhaps some famous chefs should focus on their restaurants instead of writing cookbooks like all of their peers.
Great Recipes.......2006-02-21
Though I have only tried a couple of them so far, they were both excellent and easy to prepare.
Simple is good!.......2005-11-26
Not quite the book I expected, but very nice anyway. Most recipes are extremely easy and require few ingredients. Book is well laid out and beautifully illustrated. Nothing really ground breaking or original, but well designed simplicity is always a good thing. Would have gone 5 stars, but was hoping for something more challenging.
Healthy, Easy, Tasty.......2005-07-02
Buy this. You will love it.
It's near impossible to find a cookbook that isn't packed with recipies calling for butter, bacon, and heavy cream. Many of the options in Bill's Open Kitchen are delicious, diet friendly, and quick. What's more, -every single- recipe comes with a lovely photo of the finished product, so you know in advance what looks appealing.
Hooray for food!
