A Tale of Three Kings: A Study in Brokenness.......2007-09-05
After living life for many years this book even makes more sense about the necessity of self being broken in order to be the obedient instrument God uses to accomplish His will. We pray "in Jesus name". If we believe this is proper, then the pecking order about all things belonging to the Father show we are only renters here which can easily be recognized from the attitudes of God's anointed that Edwards describes. A valuable plus by growing this insight can impact your own life with a deeper understanding of the acceptable approach to God. After reading this study it can make you more cognizant how to be a better follower of Christ, releasing us of perceived obligations that actually belongs to God alone. Our only job is to love God and do His will, anything else is vanity.
Been thorugh at lot a church.......2007-08-05
This book is an excellent book for any one that has ever been hurt through a church experience. If you have been involved in a church break up, youth pastor or asst pastor leaving, or have set under a "spear throwing " Pastor ( if you read the book you will understand). Get this book. If you work closely, to the Pastor get the book. if you will ever become a Pastor get the book. I read the entire book in one day. It is a real easy read.
Must-read for anyone who wants to understand leadership and authority better.......2007-07-26
This book is a revelation: very insightful and challenging, but incredibly easy to read. You'll be amazed at how easily Edwards can rock your world. I particularly recommend it to anyone who aspires to Christian leadership and, even more so, to anyone who has been burned by Christian leaders before. I first read this book coming out of a difficult situation on the mission field and this book really helped me to understand God's perspective on spiritual authority, service, humility and his own will. Actually, I wish every Christian would read it. It'll take you a few hours at most I'd guess.
very healing and touching book.......2007-07-05
I read this book when a friend gave it to me as a gift. The insight through the three kings' lives was very new for me. And every page takes you step by step to the healing process, helps you see the healing throughout the scars of Biblical characters... If you know someone hurt, offer this book to that person...
Elucidating truths about King David's life.......2007-04-08
A Tale of Three Kings contains helpful information about how we can thrive in spite of being under the leadership of someone who abuses authority. Succinct and easy to read. Powerful.

Book Description
King Solomon's Mines, which dates to the 1890s, was probably the basis for the Indiana Jones movies. It begins with a quest for the brother of Sir Henry Curtis -- who disappeared in Kukuanaland searching for King Solomon's mines. Curtis, Allan Quatermain, and Captain John Good nearly die of thirst in the desert, nearly freeze to death on the mountains, and nearly get killed in a massive civil war in Kukuanaland -- and finally make it to King Solomon's mine, where Gagool, the evil witch doctor seals them in. . . . Don't miss this book, or our heroes may never escape!
Customer Reviews:
If you are thinking Debra Kerr you will be shocked........2007-02-21
I grew up on the movie so it was quit a shocker to read the book. As stated in the beginning there are no petticoated women in this book. It is a men's adventure written by a man for men. You can not miss the hand of H. Rider Haggard as he has a unique sense of humor that pops up at the strangest times. He may be a little verbose but every word has a use. And as with written stories this one is much more intricate than the movie adaptations. You will find many assumptions of the time such as any complex construction must have been built by white people and natives on their own may turn savage.
The story is told first person by Allan Quartermain. Nevil is off to make his fortune by finding King Solomon's lost diamond mines. Allan sends him a 300 year old map to help. This is the last anyone heard from Nevil. Turns out that Nevil is really the estranged brother of Henry Curtis. Sir Henry Curtis now wants to make amends and he with his friend Captain John Good, bribe Allan Quartermain to take them across an endless desert and trough impassible mountains to an adventure that will hold you to the very end. Along with them is their self imposed helper Umbopa who carries a secret of his own.
If you get a chance to also hear the recording, an added plus is narration by John Richmond; He brings the characters to life and adds to the mystique that this story has been passed down.

The Two Brothers is a quiet tale of sibling love that accounts for the origins of Jerusalem. The titular two brothers live on opposite sides of a hill, and each worries that his own life is more bountiful than that of his kin. Wanting to share the wealth, but without offense or condescension, the brothers take turns sneaking sheaves of wheat to each other in the darkness. King Solomon watches with amusement as the brothers' mutual generosity leads to confusion. Finally, their philanthropic paths cross one night, and the love they feel for each other causes a miracle to occur. Solomon is inspired to build a temple on the very spot, and the city of Jerusalem springs up soon after. Waldman's drawings are simple but lovely; the soft, muted tones lend a warm, dreamlike quality to the legend. His story is equally lucid, reminding readers of the marvelous power of familial love. (Ages 4 to 8)

Brotherly Love Beautifully Portrayed.......2005-07-19
This is one of those picture books that leaves you warm all over. No need to review the plot as that is given above. My favorite page is where the brothers realize that they have been secretly sharing their grain with each other - they laugh, kiss cheeks and hug. The illustration is wonderful - two brothers embracing each other. Such a simple, evocative painting.
It is my heart's desire that my children will love each other selflessly as they grow older and this is just the kind of book to inspire these sorts of ideals.
One note - the Amazon title is in error stating "The Lawman/The Gunslinger" Those words appear nowhere in this book and have absolutely nothing to do with the story. It's just a listing error.

A Wonderful Learning Experience.......2001-05-13
THE WISDOM BIRD is the story of the meeting of two cultures.....Black African and Jewish, told through the legendary meeting of Solomon and Sheba. It also presents parents and teachers with a wonderful opportunity to teach children respect for other cultures, and the creatures of the earth. In the story, a small bird uses its wisdom to convince a king and queen that they are acting in an immoral way. The bird's ingenious tactics can lead children to understandings about human nature, and the book is a wonderful jumping off point for discussions with kids. The artwork is beautiful. I give this one an A plus!
Disturbing.......2001-03-10
The illustrations in this book greatly disturb me. Because, from my understanding King Solomon was a black man. I think it is a great insult to the original people of this planet that you make the man proclaimed to be the wisest leader ever out to be a caucasian. You do a disservice to white society by elevating the notion of white supremacy and a disservice to the black man by falsifying his past.
The illustrations in this book need to be redone or the book pulled from publication.
We Heard the Story Live.......2001-01-04
The author Mr. Oberman came to our school and told the story and it was really great. It was great story and I learned about Jewish people and African people and how everyone can learn something froim somebody, even from a little bird. The pictures are also really terrific

Customer Reviews:
Another great series by Peter David?.......2000-10-09
I was very surprised when I stumbled upon this series at the book store over the summer. I picked it up quickly as I am quite a fan of Peter David. Needless to say I was very happy with my purchase. Not only was the book fast paced, but it was surprisingly amusing. There a great moments in the book just after an exciting fight seen where you will find your self laughing out loud. There are few books where I find myself doing so. The rest of the series has been equally entertaining. The only shotcomming is the length of the books. If they weren't so great I don't think I would try and convice anyone to pick up such a small book for what is becoming an increasingly unreasonable price for books.
A nice leasure read........2000-09-18
I like Peter David (David Peters) books as they are a nice leasure read. The plots are never so intense that you can't put the book down and pick it up again in a week and have to reread. I'm not saying there is no plot...he comes up with great plots but they are easy to follow. I actually bought this book by accident. (picked up the book in front of it and it was torn so I just grabed the book behind and tossed it in my basket). I am now getting read to oder 2 or 3 of the others in this series.
A pleasant pot-boiler.......2000-04-17
Originally published under PAD's "David Peters" pseudonym, there's nothing wildly exciting about this series. Still, they are pleasant Peter David fare, with standard David themes of the importance of personal freedom and the dangers of corrupting power, interspersed with the usually welcome David humor. There are some interesting bits about growing up in a world changed so much by pollution, but no new ground is broken here, either for fiction in general or for Peter David works. Quick reads, I'd recommend them for PAD completists, esp. if you can get them second-hand.
psi man review.......2000-02-28
It was good
I was suprised by the theme, it was not what I expected.
I was annoyed by the fact that the story kept switching time between past and present.
However, the story itself was excellant, and was good enough to overlook the jumps in time.
I have always enjoyed Peter David's books, and was looking forward to the next in the series.
I was disappointed when I realised that there aren't any other books listed in the series.
It is certainly worth reading and you will enjoy it.

"IT'LL MAKE FOR SOME MIGHTY FINE EATING."
--Fort Worth Star Telegram
After the tremendous success of her novel, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe, and the beloved movie that followed, author Fannie Flagg received thousands of requests from all over the world asking for recipes from the little cafe of her Alabama childhood that was the model for the cafe in her novel. Now, she joyfully shares those recipes, in what may well be the first cookbook ever written by a satisfied customer rather than a cook! Inside you'll find wonderful recipes for:
* Skinless Fried Chicken * Pork Chops with Apples and Sweet Potatoes * Baked Ham and Pineapple Rings * Baked Turkey with Traditional Cornbread Dressing * Black-eyed Peas * Fried Okra * Creamed Onions * Broccoli Casserole * Southern Cream Gravy * Fried Catfish * Scalloped Oysters * Down Home Crab Cakes * Beaten Biscuits * Corn Pones * Lemon Ice Box Pie * Kentucky Bourbon Chocolate Pecan Pie * And much more!
The recipes in Fannie Flagg's Original Whistle Stop Cafe Cookbook are all for delicious hearty happy food that comes with all sorts of things, from gravies to hot sauces (very often the secret's in the sauce). But most of all this food, and this book, comes with love.
"If you liked her novel, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe, and if you liked the movie they made from that novel, you'll like this cookbook....It's funny, just like Flagg."
--Richmond Times-Dispatch
"Recommended...All the traditional dishes are here, along with the author's irreverent, irresistible commentary on Southern cooking and culture."
--Library Journal

thumb's up for Fannie Flagg.......2007-03-23
She has captured the flavor of many dishes from my childhood!!
Down-to-earth recipes.......2007-01-23
Down-to-earth recipes, with easy to follow directions, have made this cookbook one of my favorites. No fancy names or haute cusine -- just good home cooking. Perfect for those who have a "meat and potatoes" family like mine.
Fun to read and fun to cook from.......2007-01-03
The stories are great and the recipes are down home and delicious.
Bull.......2006-08-01
Anyone who thinks southerners eat this stuff is another one. They eat fast food, macaroniandcheese and other prepared stuff. Also and extrawise, I gather from some of the reviewers that this food, contrarytofactwise if they DID eat it, is better than Yankee food. No. Food has gotten better in this country, to be positive for once. Except DownSouth.
DownSouth, you eat in ethnic restaurants. Just like in England.
This is 'THE' Down Home Cooking Companion.......2006-07-13
I have bought a ton of cookbooks and this one has got to be my favorite. When you want comfort food, this is the book. I have now made a lot of the recipies and they are all perfect. Their smothered hamburger steak with gravy and onions is our favorite at the moment. It is better than any restaurant I have been to. The stove top cooked pot roast melts in your mouth. The banana pudding was the favorite of a family reunion. I now have to make it and take it to every occasion. It makes a huge pan though so beware. You also no longer have to 'guess' on the amount of flour to use to make gravy. I grew up making buttermilk biscuits and cream gravy. This book has it it all. The pancakes are better than IHOP. I am also buying this book for friends and newlyweds. Oh, just one more thing. This is not a low fat, low calorie book. But who cares? When you want comfort food, you want the good stuff!
