Right on.......2006-07-17
I had the opportunity to take a class taught by Shannon Ethridge, using this book as the main curriculum. This book is excellent. It really touches on the heart issues of love, intimacy, and sexual desires. It a perfect book to read if you have a lot of "baggage" from your past, but is also great to help you to guard your heart and body if you feel you have not given in in these areas.
Well worth it.........2003-11-16
I had the opportunity to take a class by Mrs. Ethridge and I can tell you that this book is very, very worth while! Very honest writing, it gets right to the point of matters and it exploits the lies of the Devil that may be at work in your life. Based on the Bible story of the woman at the well.

Desirous.......2005-09-12
Although this is not one of the best novels of Mishima, I think is quite a good book. The author denudes one of the most painful realities of human condition, the unattainment of love. All the characters are frustrated in their thirst for love, nobody is loved by their beloveds and the weak one has the worst part. Also on this novel (the passage of the night party)you can find one of the most erotic writings in literature. This is a good book about desire and its wicked ways.
Thirst for Tradition.......2004-10-21
Mishima's _Thirst for Love_ is most readily understood in the context of his other writings and thematic concerns. Throughout his literary career, Mishima was deeply troubled by changes in Japanese culture during modernity (starting around the 19th century) and beyond, particularly after the Asia-Pacific War (1931-1945). He viewed the loss of tradition as devastating to any culture, leaving them without an initial way to healthily exist and understand the processes of life and death. Japan, with its slow accretion of Western culture, was merely one macrocosmic example of this historical trend.
_Thirst for Love_ is in part a fictional presentation of this cultural decline: examples of decay are present throughout the novel, such as Miyo's rejection of traditional dress and customs, Etsuko's obsession with the lower-class farmhand, Kensuke's pathetic pseudo-intellectualism, Saburo's physical transgressions against Etsuko, and numerous others. It is imperative, then, that each of these chracters be frustrated with their actions in life and ultimately reach a sort of destruction, for they are all encapsulations of Mishima's "fallen man," the one without guidance from tradition and sane, known ways of living.
A psychological reading of the book would prove fascinating, particularly of Etsuko, Saburo, Takichi, and Kensuke.
Mishima's characterization in this work is admittedly rather weak, relative to his other novel-length works. Perhaps this is because adding satisfactory details and back history to each of the many characters introduced throughout the book would have proven difficult, if not impossible. Another interpretation offers the possibility of using this character shortcoming as a depiction of what Mishima felt towards each of these characters; to him, there is not much behind these people that is interesting or worth delving in to psychologically. They are his "fallen men," and as such a long, descriptive background and intimate storytelling would seem out of place, casting them into greater heights of worth - in the artist's mind - than warranted.
The beauty of Mishima's prose (and the translation of that prose) is, as usual, quite good. Passages evoking Osaka in the rain, evening in the country, and the throng of crowds and jubilation at the seasonal festival are all excellently composed.
My major faults with the novel derive from its relatively unengaging plot (compared to other works by the author) and the fact that its message has been told and retold numerous times by other authors, psychologists, and philosophers, including the author himself (though at a later point in his career).
dissapointing.......2004-08-20
Not long ago I was astounded by the brutality, truth, and beauty in my first taste of Yukio Mishima -- The Sailor Who Fell From Grace with the Sea. Randomly picking out his work, the next book I stumbled upon was the Sound of Waves. And eventhough from a critical point of view, the Sound of Waves has its obvious flaws. From a readers point of view, it was a great novel. Next I picked up Thirst For Love, and I was surprisingly dissapointed.
First off, I found ALL the characters in this book dull and unlikeable. With the exception of Etsuko, who is generally unappealing; None of the other characters are really developed. As another reviewer pointed out, it almost seems like important parts of the plot had been taken out of the book. The story itself aimlessly drags along going nowhere, occasionally making similarly aimless detours. But regardless of all of that, it simply isn't an interesting read. There is no outrage, no excitement, no point. Maybe to really understand this story you had to be in Japan at the time, that cultural wall is always present in Japanese literature. However, I found this wall to be too high to climb.

Unsatisfying early effort from Mishima........2002-08-15
Thirst For Love was only Mishima's second novel, and it shows. It could probably have been made into something great, but the author was either too hasty to finish it or simply didn't know what to do. Despite its great title, it's somewhat of a disappointment. I figure it was an attempt at writing an anti-romance, some kind of complete inversion of the concept of the love story. Well, it wasn't a success. The first half of the book is mired in scenes that don't go anywhere (such as the grotesque flashback where Etsuko's husband dies - did we really need that? why was it included?), and this makes the developments of the second half a bit of a shock. It seemed rather sudden how Etsuko's mild interest in the gardener Saburo turned into complete obsession. Certain aspects of the book sorely needed more attention from the author - Yakichi's attitude toward Etsuko could have been turned into something involving, but ends up being a mere tangent, a check mark on the laundry list of plot points. Had Mishima further developed the backstory of the family, we might have understood what lay behind the enmity between its various members, but it went almost completely unexplained, and said members end up coming across as spiteful for no reason. On the other hand, there are plot lines that are completely pointless and blatantly fabricated and yet are for some reason drawn out to great length - namely, the utterly inane subplot with the socks Etsuko buys.
Admittedly, the bit about the festival conveys the appropriate feeling of frenzy. Also, Mishima does a fine job of showing the dichotomy between the overly sensitive, wounded Etsuko and the utterly uncaring, "light man" Saburo. But these are small parts; the whole just isn't all that good. And let's not even get started on the deliberately "shocking" ending, which goes completely against what little character development Mishima bothered to put in. I got the feeling that he simply didn't know how to end the story, and so took the first way out that occurred to him; it would have been better if he had given it a little more thought. In fact, that can be said of just about everything in this book apart from the title. Feel free to skip it and go straight to the masterpiece The Sound Of Waves.

Wonderful start to a series.......2007-09-28
I'm not a vamp fan, but something about the premise grabbed me - that, and the discounted price! gggg I'm glad I purchased this book. It moves swiftly, and keeps you interested through great writing and wonderful characterization. I didn't mind the heroine's obsession with inter-racial differences. Having dated a black man, who showed similar behavior, I know that the author was portraying a realistic reaction by someone who was brought up understanding that inter-racial intermingling wasn't a good thing.
Although I must agree that Brandon's sexual prowess his first time is a bit unrealistic, the rest of the story was well-thought out and very enjoyable. I will definitely buy this author's sequel.
I'm in Love with a Vampire.......2007-09-03
I'm not a big fan of vampire novels, but must say I really enjoyed this one. Brandon, the protagonist, is not your run of the mill everyday vampire. He's not busting at the seams with male testosterone (no alpha male here, folks). Instead, he's a sensitive and compassionate soul. So much so in fact, that he tries to put off feeding as long as possible because he doesn't like the idea of having to kill. He's fairly young, which may explain why he's so much different from the type of vamps to which we're accustomed. And oh yeah, did I mention he's deaf? Imagine that, a vamp with a disability.
Because Brandon has so many qualities that vamps abhor, his family as a whole is not very receptive of him, his evil older brother and oh so powerful grandfather especially. He decides to leave and strike out on his own just to get away from them. In doing so, Brandon makes himself an enemy and must stay on guard to keep alive.
In the meanwhile, he stumbles upon Angelina, the sister of his former tutor. Because of his decision to escape, his taking up with a woman who is not only a filthy mortal, but also black, and her involvement in an incident that makes her an enemy who must die, they are forced to combat his fellow vampires, and run for their lives.
A lot of people may not like the protagonist because he's not really an alpha male, but that's what I found most endearing about him. As previously mentioned, Brandon is rather young (around 21), so I'm sure that will change as he matures (I, for one, hope not). The two lovers forge a bond and work to keep themselves alive. I can easily see how Angelina fail for him because Brandon, in my opinion, is a loveable vamp.
By the way, don't let the loveability factor fool you. This book is pretty scary at times. I sure hope there's a sequel in the very, very near future. It's bound to be a page turner.
Great Book!!.......2007-08-31
I think this book is a great page turner, addictive, keep you up all night type!! I think the author did a great job with not making the main character an alpha male. She was being realistic by building him up to be a better hero. As far as Angelina goes with making all the distinctions about race, let's be real, America & people always make it a race issue. Secondly, all this talk about the guy being a jailbait and it's not realistic about his first time being mindblowing...First of all it's a fictional book!! Secondly, if the roles were reversed and the woman was younger no one would have said a thing!! So get off the double standard horse please!! So I think the author hit the nail on the head with that aspect. Also, the descriptive natture of the vampires was exciting and startling at the same time. She did a wonderful job illustrating this to the reader. Like I said earlier, I loved the book all together and can not wait for the next book to come out. Great Job Sara Reinke...you're on your way to being a bestseller!!
It was okay..........2007-08-20
I liked the premise of this book, however the herione really got on my nerves. I felt that she put way too much emphasis on the fact that she was black and he was white. She wouldn't take him to her hairdresser because she was afraid of being made fun of for having "jungle fever". Yet she bemoaned that her boyfriend left her for a white woman. I was really feeling bad for Brandon. I thought he deserved someone who had a little bit more respect for him. I've read other interracial romances and I didn't have to be told every chapter about the race diffrences. Brandon was a sweet boy, and I say boy because he was only 21. He was more beta and alpha. Another thing that bugged me was he was a virgin and his first time he was just fabulous at it even with no experience. I didn't buy it. I don't know if I'll bother with this author again.
Uncomfortable characteristics.......2007-08-15
This is my first book by this author, and I'm not quite sure if I liked it even though it was well written. It certainly wasn't a comfortable read. Being Asian myself, the interracial romance didn't bother me. What bothered me was the constant division of white and black. Angelina, the heroine, is a black cop perhaps in late 20s or early 30s. Brandon, the hero, is a white, mute, deaf, virgin and 21 year old run away. Throughout the book, Angelina makes distinction between skin color, referring Brandon as the white kid or her ex-boyfriend's new girl as the "Albino." Caine, Brandon's villain of a brother also uses the "N" word.
The plot is as follows. Brandon interrupted a midnight burglary at his home when he was a child. As he was being beaten severely on the head and shot, he watched his father and uncle change into vampires and rip out the burglars' necks. After that incident, Brandon is both deaf and mute. His grandfather has also forbidden anyone to telepathically mind speak to him or learn sign language. Still feeling guilty when Brandon is teenager, his father hires a tutor for Brandon. Because the Brethren plan on feeding off of Jackson, the tutor and his sister, Brandon helps them run away. When Brandon's grandfather learns of Brandon's acceptance into a college for the mute and deaf, Brandon's hands are crushed in punishment because all of the Brethren are born, married, and die at their Kentucky compound. No one is allowed to leave and interact w/ humans other than for bloodlust where the Brethren feed and kill their victims. Since the night of burglary, Brandon lives in fear of the bloodlust and refuses all blood. The story begins when Brandon waits for his hands to heal so he can runaway, where he meets up w/ Angelina his teenaged crush from 5 years ago. Since he did not have permission to leave, it's just a matter of time when the Brethren will track down the runaway.
Although the main villain is dealt w/ in the end, the storyline did not wrap up so I'm curious whether the next book will be about Brandon & Angelina again, or about Brandon's pregnant twin sister, Tessa, and Rafe, Angelina's ex-partner.
I also agree w/ a previous reviewer about the lack of Alpha male. The hero is a 21 year old virgin w/ a ton of insecurities and dependencies. He grew up being bullied by his older brother and taught that he's deficient in every way. His immaturity does make the romance in the story lackluster and uncomfortable because he's barely jailbait.
I did like the story, but the plot appeared more paranormal fiction then romance. A lot was written about the Brandon's past, but there really wasn't much written about the Brandon and Angelina together or why they fell in love. They are briefly together in the beginning and at the end.
I am still curious about how the main plot line of the Brethren elders coming after Brandon & Tessa will wrap up and how the vampires came to be I will likely pick up the next sequel. Hopefully, the book will be a little bit more in my comfort zone the next time. I would recommend the book if the interracial romance, the age difference, and the beta male hero do not bother you. Overall, I thought the plot was good, but not really worth a re-read or a keeper.
I just wanted to mention, that I've practiced Aikido 20 years, while some of the movement descriptions were vague, at least the author didn't describe all the kicking and punching as Aikido because there are none.

Very highly recommended.......2002-12-31
The women call their clients horses, riding them to provide satisfaction. But Changmi is different, riding the horses for her own pleasure, often chastised for taking too long with men who are already hooked on her. When Ainsley Revere comes to her, he proves himself to be different than the rest of the horses, seeking to know the elusive woman behind the façade. But his interest threatens the careful barriers that protect a prostitute.
Ainsley is a cat whisperer, able to understand the big cats of the jungle. He wears the scars of Rose, a jaguar, on his back. Raised by his Native American grandfather, time slows for him on occasion, allowing him to embrace the movement of leaves or the meaning of sunlight on a pond. He cannot control the gift, but embraces it when it is offered. Once, in that twilight world where time stops, Ainsley rescues a child who falls into the cat pit, but the jaguar Bella Donna watches and promises to exact her toll.
Like the child that he rescues, Ainsley braves the world in which Changmi lives, attempting to extract her from it before it devours her. Like the cats he treasures, Changmi does not trust his intentions, viewing his intrusion with caution. She is nicknamed Rose, like the cat that marked Ainsley, and the scars she can leave are just as deadly. But their lives are tightly bound by destiny and promise.
Author Julian Winter weaves a mystical, mesmerizing text in T'ONGIL. T'ongil is a Korean world meaning to connect and unify. T'ONGIL brings together Native American and Korean cultures in a rich tapestry of heart-rending sacrifice and secrets. As the novel progresses, the delicate connections of its weave lead to a lyrical world of magic and love. As readers savor the carefully revealed bits and pieces that comprise complex characterization and sophisticated narrative choices, T'ONGIL becomes a tale of profound, mystical beauty. T'ONGIL comes very highly recommended.
intriguing relationship drama.......2002-12-16
His grandfather taught him the ways of his Native American heritage. Thus, Ainsley Revere is proud of his blood, but also feels out of place in the white civilization where he works. In fact it is his job at the zoo that keeps him anchored, as he loves the big cats. He especially feels connected to Nicte the tiger he shares a special bond with. Oonce the Big Cat's helped in rescuing a girl trapped in a cage with other tigers ready to dine.
At a brothel Ainsley meets hooker Changmi, sold from an orphanage into prostitution slavery. He surprises her as he behaves respectfully towards her unlike most of her clients. Strange to the woman, he seeks to know the real Changmi, not the pleasures of Rose as she is known amidst the trade. She cannot comprehend his motives nor does she trust any patron. Ainsley cannot understand why he cares what happens to Changmi, but since he does he knows he must act on it. However, what to do?
T'ONGIL: THE THIRST FOR LOVE is an intriguing relationship drama that is quite different than the norm due to the setting, the lead couple, and the big cats. The story line grips the audience as readers see inside Ainsley, Changmi, and even several animals as to what makes them what they are. The t'ongil (Korean word for connection) between Ainsley and Changmi, and between Ainsley and three particular cats slowly develop so that readers receive a weird, well written yet complex charmer that character study fans and romance aficionados will want to peruse.

Mystical Romance.......2002-12-07
"The sun was wounded and falling slowly from the sky, victim of an arrow shot by the night. Its blood spilled in red luminescence onto the stark blue of the sky, creating pools of glistening crimson. The clouds raced to stanch the flow, but only succeeded in turning their white loveliness a pale pink. The streaks of their tears formed a rainbow against the sky..."
J. Winter is a master of the metaphor. He makes love to each page with visions that could only come from a keen sense of observation and extended contemplation. Personification also moves to an entirely new magical level and the simile is unabashed in its beauty as it lays open on the page.
There is such intense beauty in the writing style it becomes a perfume that drifts through the pages never letting you escape its pure scent. The rhythm of the words entice you into poetry and spiritual elements so rare, the writing at times becomes art.
The basic plot is one of a tragic love story that lays bare the pain of separation, the loneliness of the human heart, true love and ultimate sacrifice. These elements blend into a unity and here and there a tiny droplet of horror emerges to balance the romance.
The love between a Korean woman (Changmi) and a Native American man (Ainsley) flesh out the story with sensual images painted in lyrical language. The long flowing sentence mingle with warm conversation and all have the undercurrent of emotion needed to connect the feelings of the characters with the readers own deep and perhaps even hidden emotions.
Changmi/Rose is untouched by love until she meets Ainsley. She is working at a cat house while he is an animal trainer working with Tigers, Lions and Jaguars. He has never been scarred by love, but carries a physical scar inflicted by a jaguar. Rose and Ainsley almost seem to stalk around one another, only getting close enough to let their wild natures show for moments in time.
Ainsley is lonely and seeks comfort in the arms of Rose who refuses to become emotionally involved due to the nature of her employment. They never realize that their relationship will turn into a mystical journey into the depths of loneliness and sacrifice.
The story begins with Ainsley saving a girls life after she falls into a Tiger exhibit. He risks his life and is willing to die. He seems to be one with the animals in a spiritual way and is unafraid of dying. This fearless spirit is heroic and yet is his dangerous rebellious spirit that haunts him.
I found the theme of cats and flowers fascinating throughout the novel. The entire story resembles two roses tangled together and growing towards the sun or the warmth of love. Changmi's story weaves around Ainsley's life in such a way as to take hold of him and bring them both beauty and pain. This story unravels at its own pace if you let it flow through you.
T'ongil is completely satisfying, unpredictable, unique and stunningly sexy. This is a story you could read repeatedly just to drown in the decadent descriptions! This novel will leave you purring in anticipation for a second reading experience.
A strange & wonder-filled love story.......2002-11-14
A compelling drama of loss & self-discovery, in which cultures mingle, time & space are elastic & ordinary life is infused with extraordinarily lyrical language.
Intermingled with the human love story, is another, far more fierce & fascinating.
While not my usual cup of tea, this is a strange & wonder-filled read, occasionally awkward, often elegant, which literally sings.
A Very Impressive Debut.......2002-10-28
Eastern mysticism meets Western spirituality in Julian Winter's debut novel, T'ongil (pronounced "tong eel"), the Thirst for Love. There's much here to satisfy the spiritual palate, but above all, T'ongil is a well-crafted love story about two mysterious people who discover in each other an ancient and other worldly connection. Spirituality is more than a backdrop here. It is an inseparable element that makes the main characters, Ainsley and Changmi (Rose), who and what they are.
Ainsley (the Tiger Whisperer as his peers know him) meets Changmi in an unlikely place in modern-day times. Each is deeply familiar to the other, but they aren't sure why. Both are apprehensive because of past wounds. Still, they cannot leave one another alone and are inevitably drawn to each other in spite of fears and, in Changmi's case, occupational barriers. There's something between these two that transcends the present and evokes primal memories of another existence.
Winter's skill as a poet shines throughout in his stunning descriptions of the southwestern landscape of America. Having lived in the southwest for many years, I know his descriptions of land and sky are dead on accurate. He obviously has experience with the topics his book explores. Perhaps he's spent time in the Far East or the South Pacific and the American Southwest. Or he has an understanding of Native American spirituality. One could easily get bogged down trying to cover far too much ground with so many subjects, but Winter holds all of these elements in perfect balance to create an intriguing and very readable debut novel. T'ongil is a hybrid love story that is fundamentally about the longing for love and the search for one's soul mate. Ainsley and Changmi have found that love in one another, but how will it culminate? Finding out is a satisfying read. Don't miss T'ongil.

Diana Metz Once Again Spins A Masterful Tale!.......2004-12-06
Absolutely astounding! This expertly crafted book is more dazzling than the first! A page turning fantasy that will keep you up till the wee hours of the night dying to know what happens next! If Diana Doesn't write a third I just might have to file a potition!:)
Brinn is even better.......2004-05-04
As a sequel to Talon's great adventure, I didn't think it could top its predeceasor. Well, I was wrong. It not only matches it, it surpasses it. Diana has found her niche in her woven tale of dragons and humans. Brinn is outstanding, strong and compassionate, definitely a character I can relate to, and the story is more passionate than ever. I don't want to give anything away, but it is a must read.
The Magic Continues.......2004-03-11
Diana, you've done it again!! What a wonderful book! The world of dragons and wizards seems so real. I loved the relationship with Brinn and the dragons in the cave!
If you like Harry Potter or Artemis Fowl, you will love the Dragon books by Diana Metz.
I am eagerly anticipating the third one!
Even better than the original.......2004-02-20
What a wonderful story. You don't find many fantasy/wizard books about a female character - maybe that's why I felt closer to the character than in Talon (which was wonderful to begin with). You felt as if you were actually seeing through Brinn's eyes. Fantastic job (again!), Diana!
Waiting for the next one!.......2004-01-21
Right from the beginning, even though it's a fantasy, It is very realistically described, and has characters that you can relate to. This is much better than the first book, and I can't wait for a third!

This is second of Shatner's original series of cops and robbers, or cops and drug dealers, in the future.
Jake Cardigan is back on the case, and as a good tough guy detective, he now has a girl, and some more bad guys to deal with. In this case, the druglords involved with dealing the dangerous substance Tek. Not as good as the first book.
Retread of "Tekwar", worth reading but not by much.......2005-01-26
This book, the sequel to "Tekwar", was a disappointment. Some of the plot devices that I found unique and interesting in "Tekwar" were repeated and were very dull the second time around. Furthermore, the ending was much too low-key for a book of this type. Jake Cardigan and his partner Sid Gomez spend over 200 pages chasing the principals of a major criminal syndicate and it all ends with some simplistic and obvious events.
There was also no further development of the characters; each behaves exactly as they did in the previous book. I don't know whether it was due to it being the second time around or if the dialog in this book was weaker than the first, but it seemed wooden and predictable. At times, comments appeared to have been meant to be a joke, I don't know whether that was the case or the statements were just poorly constructed.
Nevertheless, I did read it through and was at times interested in what was going on. Therefore, despite the many weaknesses, I still give it three stars. It is worth reading, although I would never put out the money to buy it.
Tekwar II, the adventure continues.......2004-06-28
In the second novel of Shatner's "Tek" series, future sleuth Jake Cardigan is back and trying to rebuild a life with his new girlfriend Beth. The Tek lords have been busy though, and have created a new and deadly weapon,a synthetic plague, in order to blackmail world leaders into permitting Tek. Jake's search for the cause, and cure of the plague lead him through the usual deadly adventures to a climactic battle with an unexpected enemy in Japan.
Much like the first "Tek" novel, this is a fast paced sci-fi/mystery that doesn't go overboard on the plot development. Which is A-ok, becuase it's not meant to be a deep or meaningful novel in any way, shape, or form. It's got a lot to enjoy though, with non-stop adventure, a budding romance, and an edge of mystery that will keep the pages turning. If you enjoyed 'Tekwar', than you won't be disappointed with 'Teklords'.
Fun to read sequel to Tekwar........2003-06-29
Shatner does it again. I enjoyed TEKWAR so much that I thought I see is Shatner and friends could do it 2 in a row. They (he?) did! I don't know if Shatner really wrote these or not. All I care is that the final product is excellent.
Jake, Gomez and Beth investigate a virus that is related to Tek and Jake naturally suspects the Tek Lords. This is episode 2 of 9, that I know of. The first 5 have been read and they are fast paced, humorous and fun.
Wow. The other reviews here are tough. As far as cardboard character comments are concerned, they may be for some. But I liked the movie TWISTER, and the critics said this was a bad movie because of its cardboard characters. Did you like Twister? then maybe cardboard does bother you when everything is good. Do you like fast paced mysteries set in a futuristic world? You may find this shocking but I also like Star Wars. A lot of critics don't think much of SW books either.
Read tek war first. If you like it, try Tek Lords.
Teklords.......2001-04-30
Teklords, written by William Shattner, takes place in the year 2120 in San Francisco as private investigator Jake Cardigan tries to battle the international gang of drug dealers selling the highly addictive electronic drug tek. This novel was the sequel to Shattner's first book, Tekwar. The book gives an interesting insight on how drugs are a part of everyday life and how much we use some drugs. Shattner expresses the positive and negative effects of drugs in our society and explains the drugs of the future may be very dangerous. Jake Cardigan was called in to investigate the murder of a top drug-control agent by a reprogrammed human zombie assassin. Jake uncovers a connection with the release of an artificial virus that is threatening San Francisco and many victims including Jake's ex-wife. Jake and his partners, Sid Gomez and his girlfriend Beth, to track down the source of the virus and deal with the teklords. All the suspense and action in this novel lead up to a great ending. I recommend this book to anyone who likes science fiction and suspense filled novels.

BLOOD PUMPING ACTION.......2001-03-17
Jake Cardigan is back to take on the Tek drug lords again. A synthetic plague is sweeping over San Francisco and Jake, Beth and his partner Gomez have to travel the world to find the person or persons responsible for the chaos and find a cure to save those already afflicted. To accomplish this Jake will have to face human zombies programmed to kill, thugs and Tek lords determined to erase Jake from the living.
Another fast paced gem by William Shatner.

Belongs in every "Mexican" cooking kitchen!.......2007-09-17
As a fan of Chevy's Fresh Mex restaurants, I was surprised to see they'd give away their secret recipes to the public. But it probably increased patronage of the restaurants. A smart move. A great little cookbook. To me, worth it for just three recipes alone -- the "master sauce" Chipotle Puree (that I always make with canned chipotles in adobo, by the way, not dried chilies), the Sweet Chipotle dressing, and the fish tacos. I always keep a jar of that chipotle puree in my frig. Just a tablespoon seasons so many recipes and it keeps for weeks. As expected for most restaurant cookbooks, many recipes are not simple, but require other recipes as "ingredients". The fish tacos is one, but is well worth the effort. As a local cooking teacher where I live, I've taught several classes based on the recipes in this book -- all to raves!
Good recipes - nice glossy pages. . . different cover than pictured.......2007-07-03
My only complaint with this book has more to do with amazon than this book. The book I received was an earlier edition, not the updated version as shown in the pictures. The recipes are wonderful with beautiful pictures and explanations. It also gives unique ideas for hosting your own Mexican theme celebration.
missing the most important recipe.......2007-01-17
We bought this primarily because we had read that it had the recipe for tortilla soup and also because we hoped that it would have a recipe for their salsa. Unfortunately, it has neither. That being said, it's still a half way decent cookbook, and was pretty cheap.
What I Expected from Chevy's.......2005-09-23
Everything you would want from this very good Tex Mex chain is in this book - including their famous salsa. A good buy, if you're as big a fan as I am.
Good, but much prep........2005-09-04
This is a very good cookbook, but it requires building a pantry full of intersecting recipes/prepared bases vitally important to creating end result dishes in this book. To attempt to do it all from the ground up, virtually at ground zero would take you days to complete an entire/full meal setting. (Something to consider when purchasing this book.)
Conceptually the book is great, the concept being fresh ingredients prepared in a traditional way--but overall preparation is very time consuming, indeed.
