Book Description
The incredible intersection of textiles, design, and technology and how it influences our twenty-first-century way of life.
Following on the success of the first edition of Techno Textiles, the updated Techno Textiles 2 is completely revised and incorporates over 200 new illustrations, all in color. Textile technology has radically evolved in recent years, and many of the ideas mentioned in the first edition have now become reality, while countless new ones have been conceived.
Techno Textiles 2 highlights advanced textiles in production and available to the designer, artist, architect, and consumer today. Here are textiles for a new world: fabrics that shrink or expand to the desired size; textiles developed from carbon, steel, glass, and ceramics; materials that protect the wearer from environmental extremes on earth and in space.
The book is divided into three sections: "Innovations" (how the newest textiles are imagined and made); "Applications" (from fashion and design to architecture and art); and "Reference" (a full reference guide, including glossary, biographies, directory of addresses, public collections, and an extensive bibliography). It will become required reading for professionals and for anyone curious about the new environment in which we live. 300 color illustrations.

Not so good...........2007-01-16
This book was not at all what was expected...
It almost has no purpose.
An exciting pick for any designer or artist working in fabrics.......2006-05-22
TECHNO TEXTILES: REVOLUTIONARY FABRICS FOR FASHION AND DESIGN will prove an exciting pick for any designer or artist working in fabrics. Here are features of new textiles developed from carbon, steel and even glass: materials which protect wearers from the environment or offer new versatility traditional fabrics can't match. Accompanying color photos of fabrics in use are discussions of changing trends in fabric construction, design and style - an outstanding display of images in a top-rated title juxtaposing art and functional style. Very highly recommended.

Book Description
From digital-display dresses to remote control couture, this book exposes the revolutionary interface between contemporary fashion and technology. As twenty-first century fashion makes a dramatic departure from traditional methods, designers no longer turn to the past for inspiration, but look to the hi-tech future. The result is techno fashion, the new wave of intelligent clothing that fuses fashion with communication technology, electronic textiles, and sophisticated design innovations that express new ideas about appearance, construction and wearability. Born out of the collaboration between fashion designers, researchers and scientists, this new dialogue could be the most significant design innovation in fashion's history, or indicate its eventual demise. Either way, techno fashion promises to forever disrupt the historical narrative of fashion evolution. Through interviews with designers ranging from innovators such as Hussein Chalayan and Tristan Webber to mavericks like Alexander McQueen, Bradley Quinn examines the impact of this new direction. The fusion of design and technology introduced by Yohji Yamamoto, Rei Kawakubo and Issey Miyake has created another direction for clothing, creating a new breed of designer-cum-scientist who redefines the way we dress, communicate, and even respond to environmental changes. As technology begins to shape fashion's future, it redefines the boundaries between clothing, body and machine, forever transforming the ethics and lifestyles traditionally designated by codes of dress.

Comparing and Contrasting TECHNO FASHION and THE SUPERMODERN WARDROBE.......2006-10-07
I bought this book combined with THE SUPERMODERN WARDROBE, as it was recommended to me this way. These books are very similar in a lot of ways. Both books have almost the same pictures in them and talk about the same things. They are just divided differently.
This book has way more text in it then SUPERMODERN WARDROBE. It is all black and white as well, and the SUPERMODERN WARDROBE is in all color. This book is almost like reading a textbook on the designers who do Techno Fashion and what it is all about. If you want to skim the surface I would recommend THE SUPERMODERN WARDROBE, but definetly order this if you want to go more into detail about the subject. The pictures aren't as good and they are all in black and white, but it is way more detailed then SUPERMODERN.
Book Description
This exuberant collection celebrates the way in which astonishing new textile technology is bringing together fashion, design, engineering, and science. Synthetics are now much more than cheap substitutes for natural fibers: they feel good, perform well, and look out of this world--literally. Smart textiles are no longer a science-fiction fantasy; here are self-cleaning carpets and anti-insomniac microfibers. Engineered textiles combine fabric with glass, ceramics, metal, or carbon to produce lightweight hybrids with incredible properties. Sophisticated finishes, such as silicone coatings and holographic laminates, transform color, texture, and even form. The book is illustrated throughout with the work of leading designers in the USA, Europe, and Japan: Issey Miyake, Donna Karan, Helmut Lang, Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garons, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Alexander McQueen, and many more. A comprehensive reference section includes biographies of artists, makers, and developers; explanations of technical terms; a directory of suppliers; a full bibliography; and information on where to see contemporary textiles.

Techno-riffic.......2000-01-08
This book was a well thought out and planned introduction to the world of technical/synthetic fabrics. The definitions, classifications, and examples of usage make for an interesting read. Equally exciting are the chapters on engineering, synthetics, and coatings. The designs and photos are avant-garde with references to the top designers who of course are the first to try new things. It is well organized and easy to use as a reference manual. Techno would be well situated on the bookshelf of every cutting-edge design and production team. However, based on my 15 years of experience in the fashion-forward streetwear scene, I would have expected to find listed the company Decopap Inc of Montreal Canada, which has been the leading source of Vinyl coated fabrics to the streetwear, fetish, and techno crowd for the last 30 years. This one omission aside, the book is truly a valuable source for the textile industry.
Book Description
Susan Cohn pushes the limits of the definition of jewelry yet preserves its core role of adornment by making objects that can be worn on the body. Her work, with its stark functionalist aesthetic and fastidious detailing, is strongly motivated by pleasure in the play of form, material, and color. Materials are juxtaposed unexpectedly and ideas collide to release humor and irony.
Essays include an examination of Susan Cohn's work and workshop practice, and an appreciation by a long-time admirer. These are set alongside full-color images of her jewelry that invariably surprise.

Book Description
In all its forms from hardcore to trance, Techno has moved from its small underground club beginnings to connect with the pulse of today's youth. Moreover techno has moved beyond the music to create its own distinct cultural identity.
This book charts the development of the Techno movement and celebrates the graphics and fashion that it has given rise to. Works of Peter Saville, The Designers Republic, KM7 and Jaffa, The Unknown are recorded. Accordingly an overall synthesis is presented of a music form, which like Punk in the 70's and Rock in the 60's, has come to mark the age.

I thought this was a really cool book..........1999-02-17
The flyers in this book are so cool... And the pictures of the parties were cool... But they should have taken out the part about fashion, and included more pictures of actual parties...
That guy doesnt know what he's talking about.......1999-02-09
I think if you buy this book for what it is- An art book based around techno, then you will be more than satisfied. It has lots of great design work throughout. I think you would be happy you spent your money on this one.
Disappointing.......1998-10-14
Has a few excellent graphics, but most of it is pretty disappointing and pretty dull. It certainly doesn't showcase much of the best of the genre - you can see better stuff on the table by the door of any dance music store in London, Manchester, New York or San Francisco. Perhaps it's the over-emphasis on the soulless & groove-free German scene that has produced this - hardly surprising if the art's a reflection of that scene's music.

Book Description
Ten-year-old Chihiro finds herself abandoned when her parents are turned into pigs. To survive, she goes to work in a bathhouse catering to bizarre beings. This graphic novel is based on the highest-grossing animated movie in Japanese film history and a collection of its artwork by worldwide famous anime author Hayao Miyazaki.
Customer Reviews:
Poor quality printing........2007-05-10
Just a warning -- these are the flimsiest books you will ever see in your life. We bought them for our library and they fell apart like tissue paper after ONE use by a careful patron. The publisher should be ashamed at putting out such a poor quality product.
Most beautiful book- Spirited Away.......2005-12-06
This book is absolotly gorgeous. It captures the pictures from the actual movie. The story is the same with the movie. I strongly reccomend people watching or reading this book. I was inspired by my best friend, Annie. It shows how an real 10 years old girl react to this kind of situation. Miyazaki creates different texture from all the others.
A wonderful little book.......2004-03-08
Poor 10-year-old Chihiro Ogino is so unhappy that her family is moving to a new home. But, things go from bad to weird, when her father takes a wrong turn, and finds what he believes to be an abandoned theme park. When night falls, Chihiro finds herself in a strange and threatening world of magic and weird creatures. Rescued by a young boy named Haku, he tells Chihiro what she must do to survive and rescue her parents.
This wonderful little book is the work of Hayao Miyazaki, one of Japan's premiere animators. A great thing about this book is that it is printed so as to be read from back-to-front, right-to-left, in the Japanese style, helping to give the reader the feeling of entering another world. I really enjoyed this book, and found the story to be nothing short of wonderful. I highly recommend this book.
English Language Learners Love Miyazaki.......2003-07-19
My ELL students go wild over these books, and the back-to-front reading format doesn't seem to affect their usual English reading lessons. I introduced this set into my classroom library this past year. I imagine having seen the film first was helpful for most of my students, but any enticement to read has to be worth something. It certainly is from my standpoint as a teacher. These books are beautiful to look at and obviously fun to read. They remind me of the old Tintin adventure books which helped teach many overseas students to read English a generation ago.
Beautiful Anime Comic..........2003-06-10
A beautiful adaptation of the anime. Makes a GREAT gift. Too bad there is no box set or something, I think that would sell REALLY well...
Anyway, the color is just beautiful and its a great way to relive the action and emotion of the original anime, or for people who didn't see it to see it for the first time.

Knitting images, including knitted art sculptures, knitting still-life photographs, retro vintage knitting pattern book covers, and humorous vintage paintings of knitters adorn this new calendar.
Customer Reviews:
Colorful, but a little redundant........2006-02-25
I bought this calendar because I am a knitter, and enjoy knitterly things. Over all, the images in this calendar are nice, but they seem to rely heavily on vintage advertisements for one brand of needle. It would be nice to find a calendar that showcases extraordinary knitted work.
