Not Free SF Reader.......2007-09-03
Less spaceships blowing up, more political infighting. Honor has an enemy who is now in disgrace. Her society, with all its advanced
technology and space fleets, has duelling. Said enemy manoeuvres Harrington's bed warmer into such an event, to get back at her. This is where I started to lose interest in the serious. Definitely more on the melodramatic side, with dastardly villainous types and whatnot.
No. 4 in the Honor Harrington series - Court Martial and Duels.......2007-07-22
"Field of Dishonour" is the fourth book in a wonderful space opera series set some three thousand years in the future and featuring David Weber's best fictional heroine, "Honor Harrington." In this book the action moves from space battles to a court martial and then to a series of duels.
These books are best read in sequence and I strongly recommend that you start with "On Basilisk Station" which is the first one.
The Honor Harrington stories are replete with parallels to the time of the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars. In particular, the Royal Manticoran Navy in which the heroine serves is clearly based on the Royal Navy at the time of Nelson.
The technology of space travel and naval warfare in the Honor Harrington stories has been written so as to impose tactical and strategic constraints on space navy officers similar to those which the technology of fighting sail imposed on wet navy officers two hundred years ago. Similarly the galactic situation in the novels contains many similarities to the strategic and political situation in European history in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
This seems to be quite deliberate: many thinly veiled (and amusing) hints in the books indicate that they are to some extent a tribute to C.S. Forester, while the main heroine of the books, Honor Harrington, appears to owe more than just her initials to C.S. Forester's character "Horatio Hornblower."
In the previous book, "The Short Victorious War", Honor's home nation of Manticore, and their allies, were attacked by the People's Republic of Haven or "Peeps" - an agressive superpower which has been gradually conquering the small nations on its borders in bitesize chunks.
Following a coup in the People's Republic after their first round of attacks were not successful, Haven is now run by a "Committee of Public Safety" headed by one Rob S. Pierre, but the new Peep government is just as committed to the war as the old one was.
Weber clearly means the reader to understand that Haven represents Revolutionary France, and that Manricore and her allies face a war to the death against Haven, which may go on for a long time.
At the start of book four Lord Pavel Young, who tried to rape Honor Harrington when they were both cadets at the naval academy, left her unsupported "On Basilisk Station" in book one, and left her ships unguarded by running away in battle in book three, is facing a court martial. Meanwhile Captain Honor Harrington has brought her ship, the battlecruiser HMS Nike, home for repairs, and is enjoying an all-too brief period of happiness with her lover, captain Paul Tankersley.
Young and his powerful family are willing to pull every political truck in the book to try to get him off and discredit Honor, who they regards as being to blame for his disgrace. They will stop at nothing, including killing, to gain revenge. They realise too late that their attacks on Honor and on people she loves have been the worst possible thing they could have done: they've made her angry.
Many people read Weber for the space battles. They may want to give this book a miss - it's the only Honorverse book which doesn't have a single space battle. Instead there is a great deal of political manouvering, and various successful and unsuccessful attempts to kill people through duels and assassinations. However, it plays an important part in character and plot development in the series, and some of the scenes are very exciting. In particular, Honor's relationship with the people of Grayson develops in new and unexpected directions.
At the time of writing there are thirteen full length novels and four short story collections in the "Honorverse" as the fictional galaxy in which these stories are set is sometimes known. The main series which tells the story of Honor Harrington herself currently runs to eleven novels; in order these are
On Basilisk Station
The Honor of the Queen
The Short Victorious War
Field of Dishonor
Flag in Exile
Honor among Enemies
In Enemy Hands
Echoes of Honor
Ashes of Victory
War of Honor
At All Costs
The four collections of short stories set in the same universe, not all of which feature Honor Harrington herself, are
More Than Honor
Worlds of Honor
Worlds of Honor III: Changer of Worlds
Worlds of Honor IV: The Service of the Sword
The two spin-off novels are "Crown of Slaves" (with Eric Flint) which is a story of espionage and intrigue featuring a number of characters, including Anton and Helen Zilwicki, first introduced in earlier Honor Harrington books such as this one, and "The Shadow of Saganami" which is a kind of "next generation" novel featuring a number of younger officers in the navies of Manticore and her ally Grayson.
For amusement, if you want to try to look for the parallels to nations and individuals from the French revolutionary period and the Hornblower books, one possible translation would be:
People's Republic of Haven = France
Star Kingdom of Manticore = Great Britain
Gryphon = Scotland
Grayson = Portugal
Prime Minister Alan Summervale = Pitt the Younger
Hamish Alexander, later Earl White Haven = Admiral Edward Pellew
Honor Harrington = Horatio Hornblower
Alistair McKeon = William Bush
Crown loyalists and Centrists = Tory supporters of Pitt
Conservative Association = isolationist/hardline High Tories
New Kiev Liberals = Whig Oligarchists
Progressives and traditional liberals = Whig radicals
Legislaturist rulers of Haven = Bourbon monarchy and nobles in France
Rob S. Pierre = Robespierre
Committee of Public Safety = Committee of Public Safety
Anderman Empire = Kingdom of Prussia
Silesia = Poland
Solarian republic = United States of America
Colonel of Marines = Colonel of Marines (A nominal office awarded as a mark of Royal Favour to Horatio Horblower in "Flying Colours" and to Honor Harrington at the start of "Field of Dishonor".)
Wall of Battle = Line of Battle
Ship of the Wall = Ship of the Line
Battleship = "4th rate" sailing warship (in each case too small to form part of the main force in a fleet action, but powerful enough to defeat anything else smaller than a ship of the line/wall.)
Battlecruiser = frigate (5th rate)
Cruisers and destroyers = 6th rate and smaller warships
Field of Dishonor.......2007-01-29
I was disheartened about this book before even picking it up. My first port of call was Amazon to read the reviews on the book. Numerous reviews made mention of the lack of Space Battles in the forth of the Honor Harrington saga. I'm reading these books for a Sci Fi, lasers flash'n, ships exploding, the good guys always win, fix.
I knew I wasn't going to get it with this installment.
This was the first book in 15 years that I read in a day. I couldn't put it down (having to surrender myself to the wrath of my disgruntled ignored wife afterwards).
This book starts to really show how much the characters are developing in the series, and how much the reader starts to care for the main players.
Might have to read the thing again whilst I wait for the 5th book to arrive from the States :)
Arguably the worst of the Honor novels.......2006-07-07
The Honor series is fun to read... if unoriginal in character (see Hornblower or Aubrey), and a bit heavy handed in the writing style.
This book, however, lacked the flow and purpose of the other books. It seems out of place, as are the motivations of the characters. Perhaps Weber needed a "transition" novel to provide a "break" in the storyline. Regardless, compared to the other books in the series, I found this entry lacking.
(NOTE: unlike most, I grade on a bell curve, with 3 stars gathering the majority of votes. 1 and 5 star books are extemely rare.)
Exceptional!.......2006-07-07
Another exception book by David Weber in the Honor Harrington series. I love the female heroine, which is not common in the sci-fi genre of this type, and she is totally believable, totally relatable, and simply amazing! I have read each and every book of this series, I found them all to be equally compelling. I must say though, that this novel in the series was probably my least favorite of them all. Now, I want one of those cats! (read the book to find out what I mean!)
Book Description
Few historians have ever captured the drama, excitement, and tragedy of the War Between the States quite like Edwin Bearss. The acclaimed "Homer of the Civil War," has won a huge, devoted following with his extraordinary battlefield tours and eloquent soliloquies about the heroes, scoundrels, and little-known moments of a conflict that still fascinates America. Antietam, Shiloh, Chickamauga, Gettysburg: these hallowed battles and more than a dozen more come alive as never before, rich with human interest and colorful detail culled from a lifetime of study.
Illustrated with detailed maps and archival images, this 448-page volume commemorates the 140th anniversary of the war's end with a unique narrative of its most critical battles, translating Bearss' inimitable delivery into print. As he guides readers from the first shots at Fort Sumter to Gettysburg's bloody fields to the dignified surrender at Appomattox, his engagingly plainspoken but expert account demonstrates why he stands beside Shelby Foote, James McPherson, and Ken Burns in the front rank of modern chroniclers of the Civil War, as the Pulitzer Prize-winning McPherson himself points out in his admiring introduction.
A must for every one of America's countless Civil War and history buffs alike, this major work will stand as an important reference and enduring legacy of a great historian for generations to come.

A Must Read for Civil War Enthusiasts.......2007-08-23
I enjoyed this book. It is clear and easy to understand. A very interesting read.
A "taste" of Ed.......2007-07-30
Have been a huge fan of Ed since my first tour w/Chicago CW R/T to Vicksburg w/Ed as guide in either 1963 or 64...unbeliveable presentations on the trip.
This current volume is an "adequate" attempt to provide a flavor of Ed's dynamic style, but his expertise in limited by the volume's production standards. First, the font size used for the index is too small for the average reader, Secondly, more detailed maps should have been prepared for the individual battles, i.e. especially the three/days at Gettysburg. The overview maps are nice, but the one for the final days covering the abandonment of Richmond to Appomattox is grossly inadequate. Yes, these all cost $$$, but do a proper job and add $2.00 to the cost of the book.
Sadly, there is no coverage of the Atlanta Campaign> Sherman vs. Joe Johnson. I've been with Ed twice on this campaign and he simply does an outstanding presentation of not only the various battles, but the personalities, i.e. Sherman's reluctance to lauch attacks, et al. Despite the production short-comings the volume is an excellent one to take along while visiting a CW battlefield to "taste the flavor" as only can be done by Ed, with one will need some other books, i.e. map atlas, to augment for fullercoverage. An American Treasure.......2007-07-07
Edwin C. Bearss is an American Treasure. His Civil War commentary is "History with Flavor". His ability to understand the complexities of this nation's more difficult time and then bring it to the American people in a succinct and entertaining way is a true delight.
Fields of Honor is Mr. Bearss's insight into 14 of the Civil War's pivotal battles. He brings his unique perspective and understanding of how these battles were fought and why they turned out as they did.
His asides and interesting writing style makes for a fun read.
My only fault of this master is that the review of the individual battles was so short. I would enjoy a more in depth analysis by Mr. Bearss as he is one of the foremost Civil War authorities today.
Side note: This summer, August, I will participate in a 5 day private tour of the Gettysburg battlefield of which 2 of the days will be spent with Mr. Bearss. I eagerly look forward to his commentary and unique insights on this great field of battle. He is indeed an American Treasure.
Recommended as an overview of the Civil War battles covered. Not an in depth analysis but a splendid little review with some interesting insights into these pivotal battles. Civil War history with a dash of Bearss flavor. Very good if one is going to visit the battlefields in question.
A Man of the Battlefields.......2007-06-12
In the Preface to his recent book "Fields of Honor" Ed Bearss describes himself as a "man of the battlefields" and so he is. For over fifty years, Bearss has been introducing Americans to the Civil War on the ground and in the trenches - by offering tours of both the great and the little-known battlefields of the conflict. With his booming voice, charisma, encyclopedic knowledge, love for his subject, and gift for the telling detail, Bearss is an inspiring teacher and historian indeed. Bearss is a former Chief Historian of the National Park Service, and he is familiar to many Americans who have never studied the Civil War or visited a battlefield from his appearances on PBS.
"Fields of Honor" is a collaborative effort between Bearss and the Blue and Gray Education Society, a nonprofit Civil War educational organization which sponsors tours, lectures and other efforts to teach people about the Civil War and its significance. Bearss has frequently led tours for the group. The book was prepared by transcribing tapes of the many tours Bearss has given over the years at key battlefields. The tapes were transcribed, edited, and placed into a coherent narrative, supplemented by many period photographs and maps.
The book begins in 1859, as Bearss guides the reader through John Brown's raid on Harper's Ferry and its aftermath. He then narrates by year the key battles of the Civil War beginning with Fort Sumter and First Bull Run in 1861, proceeding through Shiloh and Antietam in 1862, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Vicksburg, and Chattanooga in 1863, Grant's bloody overland campaign in 1864, and Sherman's march through the Carolinas and Appomattox in 1865.
The concluding chapter of the book details the history of the ironclad "Cairo" which was sunk by a Confederate mine in the Yazoo River in 1862. Bearss discovered the Cairo while working as a historian in Vicksburg in 1956, and, after a great deal of effort, the Cairo was raised in 1965 and finally put on display at Vicksburg in the mid-1980s. Bearss takes a great deal of justifiable pride in his efforts in recovering and restoring the Cairo.
The battlefield narratives are fast-paced, informal, and full of action and story. The individuals who collated Bearss' tapes did an excellent job in keeping the oral and immediate character of Bearss' battlefield presentations. Thus, these tapes do not present a full, detailed account of the battles they describe. There is a voluminous literature on each of the individual battles discussed in this book. Further, Bearss' focus is on military activities. He spends little time on the causes of the war or on its political, social or economic impact. (Bearss does discuss Lee's surrender at Appomattox in the context of an effort towards the reconciliation of North and South. And he also frequently points out the role of African American soldiers in the battles.) Again, there is a vast and accessible literature on these matters available to interested readers.
In reading these narratives, I tried to imagine myself on the battlefields with Bearss leading a group as we moved from place to place with Bearss recounting stories of movements, encounters, and persons. There is a cumulative impact in Bearss' narratives. They convey a feel for combat. More important, Bearss conveys to his readers or listeners a sense of the historical importance of the Civil War. It was a harsh, bitter conflict fought valiantly by soldiers both North and South. The meaning of the conflict for our country remains to be determined and expanded upon by each generation of Americans. Bearss' efforts throughout the years and this book are inspiring beginnings to teach Americans to think about this crucial period in our history.

well short of expectations.......2007-01-06
Mr. Bearss is a wonderful treasure trove of information and many people, myself included, enjoy his battlefield tours. This volume offers an encore of those tours, but little else. I suspect it is aimed at the Civil War book buying audience who purchase most anything with the names Bearss and McPherson attached.
For some reason the text shifts font between historical narrative and Bearss' tour guide transcript. One supposes this is to spread the blame.
Considering Mr. Bearss' emphasis on the 'ground' and that the National Geographic Society is the publisher, the maps are amazingly poor and undetailed.
Similarly, the book makes poor use of photographs: why use an 1850s photo of Lee, retouched to add a beard, when so many others exist?
Another photo of 'Winfield S. Hancock' sure looks an awful lot like Ambrose P. Burnside.
A typical Civil War buff will glean little from this publication and a novice will not have the prerequisites for filling in the narrative's many gaps.
In brief, even though I can 'hear' Mr. Bearss wonderful voice speaking the words, the book itself falls well short of expectations.

Fields of Honor #4, The Soldier's Medal.......2000-11-14
A typical Zlotnik accurate but simplistic fictional account of a Vietnam Veteran's escapades. Unlike other works he has written, finishing the book is a saddening instead of uplifting experience.
Customer Reviews:
Reality Check.......2001-05-15
Zlotnik is one of the best descriptive writers to come out of the Vietnam War. He paints a word picture even the most inexperienced reader can visualize and the most experienced combat veteran will support. His attention to detail is superb and he always weaves in some kind of creature into his story that reappears in a dramatic manner.
He's good.
The best of the series.......2000-03-27
A Vietnam veteran himself, Zlotnik explores the devestating after-effects of war by following the military career of an idealistic and exceptionally talented teen. Exceptionally realistic and detailed prose. This story contains enough twists and sardonic humour to entertain, while revealing the dark horrors of war. A fabulous read!
Customer Reviews:
Great War Writer.......2002-01-09
Zlotnik writes with a smooth flowing style that pulls the reader along through the pages. He always has morals woven into his stories.
Fields of Honor #5, The Bronze Star.......2000-11-14
Zlotnik writes very good fictionistory of various Vietnam escapades. It is as entertaining and action packed as many other books in this genre, but accurate and realistic like the non-fiction accounts by veterans from similar units. The weakpoint is the simplistic way in which the good guys end up on top and the dirtbags always get their due, very unlike reality.

That's how many minutes have been committed to film during the thirty year -- and counting -- history of Star Trek. Since its inception as a groundbreaking show, through its current incarnations on television and as a series of motion pictures, more than 395 hours of Star Trek have been filmed. If you watch it all consecutively, you'd be glued to your television set around the clock for more than 16 days.
Have you ever wondered what it takes to create just one sequence of scenes that can last as little as a minute or two? Minutes may not seem like a lot out of thirty years' worth of science fiction magic, but for the thousands of men and women both in front of and behind the cameras, each and every one of those minutes has been a labor of love, blood, sweat, and tears, all created without a net.
With the author as our guide, we will follow the creation of three separate sequences -- one each from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine®, Star Trek: Voyager®, and the upcoming motion picture Star Trek: Insurrection. From the first meetings of the writers to the preproduction meetings, from the concept sketches to the realized set, from the early morning makeup session to the bleary-eyed midnight shooting the author has been there. Peering over the shoulders of the writers, the filmmakers, the graphic artists, and the visual-effects wizards, the author reports each Herculean task as it is accomplished. Action! takes you there for each moment.
After reading Action!, an utterly unique work, you will never watch Star Trek® quite the same way again. (Oh, and in case you haven't timed this, it took you about two minutes to read this flap copy.)

Lavish "trek" into the making of a television series.......2003-06-08
With print and pictures detailing EVERY inch of the making of three Trek productions, this is a book that is a treasure for any student of filmmaking. One does not have to be an aficionado of the offspring of the original series to appreciate the work that went into the publication of this book.
The book is a fascinating (to use Spock's word) how-to-make-a-television episode (or movie scene) primer.
More pictures than you can point a phaser at!.......2001-06-01
Provides an in-depth and fascinating account into how Star Trek productions are conceived, filmed and produced. The book showsthe transition from initial idea to final product in 3 Star Trek guises - DS9, Voyager and the film Insurrection. The book is jam-packed with pictures throughout and Erdmann's dialogue is very much narrative in style, as the story is told for much of the book in the quotes of various cast and crew. The book particularly highlights how stories are formed and the various inputs from script writers, producers, directors and cast, and it is fascinating to see how a story develops and changes throughout time. An extremely good read.
The ultimate behind-the-scenes experience.......2000-02-28
From the first writers' meeting to the satellite upload, this book describes in detail every step taken by actors, producers, designers, directors and editors to create an episode of Star Trek. Terry J. Erdmann has had unprecedented access to production meetings, film sets and post-production facilities to unveil how various Star Trek incarnations get from idea to (small of big) screen. If you're interested in what's going on behind-the-scenes, I highly recommend this title.
A detailed look at the making of star trek.......2000-01-18
For any star trek fan, or just for those interested in the making of tv series and films, this book outlines, in high detail and many photographs, the process of producing an episode of DS9, Voyager, and a portion of Star Trek: First Contact. A must for any fan's collection.

J.M. Dillard is a veteran of Star Trek novelizations, having written them for the last five films. Her latest, Star Trek: Insurrection, finds her in fine form. The film is much lighter in tone than the last Next Generation offering, First Contact, and Dillard captures this relaxed mood well, transferring the humor from screen to page with a sure touch. The plot moves at a good pace as Picard and crew attempt to protect a group of peaceful Ba'ku villagers from the sinister alien Son'a and Starfleet's Admiral Dougherty, who is being less than candid about his mission. The planet has a rejuvenating effect on everyone who lands there, and this is what the Son'a, a dying race, are after. Dillard deepens the complexity of Dougherty's character, and fills in more of the background of the Ba'ku and Son'a peoples than the film had time for. The book diverges slightly from the screen version in places, presumably because Dillard was working from an earlier version of the script, but at least this means that Picard and Anij get to kiss one another! For those who enjoyed the film, this is a good way of fixing it in the memory, and it works as an exciting novel in its own right. --Elizabeth Sourbut, Amazon.co.uk

i love audiobooks.especially those that take me to another realm.insurrection gets regular rotation in my c.d. player. when i go to sleep i light some incense, put on the audiobook and.voila!..instant calm.
i would like to buy more of these. :)
Another great novelization!.......2002-07-21
J.M. Dillard has with, Star Trek: Insurrection done another great job of novelizing a movie! I always approach novelization's with a little skepticism as far as what's put on page between the scenes on screen. That said, I don't really do that with her work. She captures the spirit of the film perfectly and put's some really good scenes in that we don't see on film. Thank you to the author for another great novelization!
Over-rated and dull.......2000-03-02
The Star Trek books are about in the same shape as the movies are. Poor plots and off characterization is the name of the game here. This autio tape and the film it's based on, brought the series to a new low creative wise and Trek has still shown no signs of visable recovery.
This is the best Star Trek book ever........1999-12-15
I've read all the Star Trek movie books, and "Insurrection" is the one I like the best. The description of the Ba'ku and S'ona homeworld is breathtaking, and the action scenes are well described. Of all, I rate this book very highly and recommend it to everyone I can get my hands on.
Brilliant.......1999-11-03
Well, she's done it again. J.M. Dillard has written another brilliant novelisation, and she really dserves credit for it. The characters were portrayed very well, and she kept to the script for the most part, adding in her own parts about the characters, Anjj, the So'na, and Worf. Although her version of the story deviated somewhat from the movie version, this is probably due to the fact she was working with an earlier script, but it didn't change the book much. Personally, I really liked it, but one part in particular was the part involving Worf. In the movie he didn't play a very big role, just normal Worf with the exception of his .... physical troubles. But in the book Dillard wrote about Worf dreaming, and encountering K'Ehleyer, his former lover. I felt this was one of best insights into his character, with his old flame inslting his relationships after(Deanna Troi, Jadzia Dax). Anyway, I really liked that. The relationship between Riker & Deanna was done very well in film and novel, the novel simply putting thoughts beind their feelings, which I thought was good. Anyway, that's my opinion. On one last note, is anyone else slightly concerned TNG movies haven't found a 'focus' yet. I mean, TOS movies had a focus around Mr. Spock's death and return, but TNG has had none of this. I am deeply concerned about this, if anyone else is feel free to email me.

Customer Reviews:
Nice background material on the movie.......2005-10-18
Star Trek: Insurrection proves to be one of the most lackluster of Star Trek movies and this book which is well written and full of nice photos, tells a good story how this movie came to be and how it was produced. Its a movie promotion book for sure so you can count on all the positive aspects of the film. The book itself was enjoyable although upon reading it, I can understand why the movie failed with both the Star Trek fans and the general public.
Reading how this movie was developed proves to be most interesting in the way they went about it. It pretty obvious that the scriptwriters and its supporters had totally no clue what we Trekkies wanted and no idea how dated the script was. During the time when this movie was being released, Deep Space Nine was pushing the limits of scriptwriting and character development for Star Trek universe. The Dominion War where the Federation was fighting for its dear life was going on while Voyager was dodging the Borgs and other unfriendly species. All that made the script and the movie looking very stale and standing still. The book revealed that no where any of what was going on TV was in consideration. It showed how they wanted to get Picard a girlfriend, get some Gilbert and Sullivan in and all kind of stuff that sounds cute but in actual sense, boring. Exciting things were happening on the TV for Star Trek and this book shows why the movie totally and cluelessly missed the boat.
Overall, an informative movie promotion book where the director, producers and cast slapped each other on their backs while making a not so successful film. You would think that after First Contact, these people will understand what we Trekkies like.
A suitable companion to the film.......1999-10-02
I don't know if it was a problem with a particular print run of this book, but the copy I bought from a local bookstore was very badly bound, and several pages came adrift while I was reading it. This struck me as highly unusual, since most S&S books are excellently bound. However, the book itself is beautfully designed, and has a wealth of information about the film making process. However, it is a little on the small side, and could have been more like John Eaves's "Next Generation Sketchbook". A good book in general, it loses stars because of the poor binding and small size.
The Best!.......1999-03-02
Insurrection is one of the absolute best star trek films there is. Data is the funniest ever in the film. I loved Picard, Worf and Data's musical number. It was really funny
This Book Is Awesome.......1999-02-23
The Pictures, The size everything you need to know about the new blockbuster movie. A must have for any avid Star Trek fan.
One of the best behind the scene books ever!!!!.......1999-01-15
I loved it it was the best one yet! I would also like to see one on voyager. I love the renderings and the concept sketches.

Recipies sound good. But no pixs. I like pixs so good you can almost smell the food.
One Dish Meals.......2007-03-09
Very easy to follow. All the recipes I have tried have been very tasty. Easy cleanup with one pan. Would recommend this book to anyone especially working women with little time to spare.
No Photographs.......2007-02-03
I'm giving this a 4-star because the recipes looked good and easy. However, I returned this book because it didn't contain any photographs. I know it sounds silly, but I find that having a photo of each meal helps to inspire me when meal-planning.
Great cookbook for someone wanting easy recipes.......2006-08-01
For me, this is a perfect cookbook. I don't have a lot of room in my kitchen. I want meals I can cook quickly. The recipes is food that you pretty much throw together in a hurry. Even the more intricate recipes are easy. These are the kind of meals that women cooked in the 50s, '60s and '70s before the Food Network got middle America women (and yes men too) wanting to be gourmet chefs. If I had the time and especially the room, it would be fun to try more elaborate dishes. But for people who want something more than frozen meals, this is a great cookbook.
