Book Description
"Irish-American billionaire seeks bright, beautiful, independent, but, above all, Irish wife. Please send photo and three-hundred-word essay about yourself to P.D. Box NY 14786. Looking for genuine love. No timewasting money-grabbers please."
Laura has been twenty-five for nearly ten years and it's starting to show. Successful and sassy, she has spent her money on hard living and tough boy-toys. She's hoping this ad might provide her with the chance to pull her Ferrari into the last gas station before the desert.
Gloria is watching her hard-earned business go up the nose of her womanizing ex-husband. Tired of life and not yet thirty, she's determined never to go back to poverty again.Maybe this is the chance she needs to make sure that doesn't happen.
Sandy doesn't have marriage oh her mind -- she's too ambitious for that. But this might be the big story that could make or break her career as a journalist: On the other hand, her curves and long red curls just might win her a husband in the deal.
Three women and one Irish-American billionaire seeking a wild Irish rose of a wife. Out of hundreds of replies, the hopelessly romantic billionaire has whittled down the single women of Ireland to the finalists, and now he's coming over to choose. But he's going to get more than he bargained for from these wild cats and colleens.
Morag Prunty's first novel is a hilarious, electric satire set in contemporary Ireland, where the Celtic tigress is charging through Dublin in a pair of Gucci mules.

A Fun Read with Lots Going On.......2002-08-19
Originally published in the UK as "Dancing with Mules", "Wild Cats and Colleens" is a fun read with a rich and varied cast of characters and a very comical plot line. Xavier Big is an absurdly rich and totally out-of-touch with reality American whose devotion to his dead Irish mammy borders on the psychotic. When he decides (and publicly announces) that he must marry a good Irish girl that mother would be proud of, you can imagine what chaos ensues in every county of Ireland. Married or unmarried, every red-haired Irish lassie thinks she stands a chance. There are lots of well-written characters in this book, some of whom you will like and some of whom will make you grind your teeth! But its a fun read and I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it.
A great giggle!.......2001-11-14
This is one of those perfect beach/train/anytime books.
The characters are really funny - especially the face products obsessed weak willed brother. It captures a sense of giddiness and fun - that has been lacking in books since the Tales of the City series. I loved how the plot escalated and ended on a very satisfying note. A great read - go out and buy it for all your friends!

Customer Reviews:
Highly Entertaining.......2006-11-11
This is one of my favourite fantasy books ever. It might not have the epic scope of 'The Lord Of The Rings', nor the immersive quality of Feist's 'Riftwar Saga', but what it does have going for it it has in spades: it's very clever. This is 'The Hitch Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy' of fantasy novels. Forget Terry Pratchett, Tom Holt, and Robert Rankin. John Moore is far funnier. Plus, his comic syle of writing isn't the only attraction; this book has an exciting, original plot and some very cool characters.
You can read the first few pages here on Amazon to get a good idea of how the book is written. I guess the one potential problem for some readers might be that this book isn't a serious, dramatic story that you can lose yourself in. It's light and entertaining. But with so many serious, dark fantasy novels out there, this aspect in itself in like a breath of fresh air.
How Can There Be an Almost New Genuine Ancient Artifact?.......2006-07-06
Read "Heroics for Beginners" and find out. It really is possible. Of course the whole story is a hilarious spoof. Nothing serious, but highly enjoyable light reading.
Clever, light reading.......2006-04-29
"Heroics for Beginners" is a pleasant, light, and cleverly-written book that will have you laughing out loud. I highly recommend this as a beach or vacation book--it is light enough to be put down and picked up numerous times, and clever enough that it is virtually impossible to read it without laughing. Highly recommended.
How to books can teach just about anything..........2006-01-10
The Kingdom of Deserae is entertaining suitors for the Princess Rebecca. Prince Kevin Timberline is determined to win the princess but there are several other suitors. Kevin thinks he has the inside track until Thunk the Barbarian is killed while on a mission for Deserae. Now the suitors are offered a challenge. Whoever can get the Ancient Artifact Model Seven back from the evil Lord Voltmeter get Rebecca. So Kevin takes a copy of the Handbook for Practical Heroics and set off trying to get to the Fortress of Doom, get the Ancient Artifact and get the girl; if he can get out of the gift shop. The problem is the Princess isn't too pleased with this use of her person so she figures if she gets the Artifact she can pick her own husband.
This is a hilarious, romp using all the tropes of the genre and twisting them on their ear. Some places I laughed until I cried. Yet the story is funny, the characters interesting, and the universe just a bit off-kilter and a wonderfully weird mix of today and medieval kingdom. Don't think just read and enjoy.
How to Beat the Pros.......2005-06-14
Prince Kevin Timberline has a problem. He has worked very hard to win the political approval necessary to win the hand of a princess he loves but a dangerous Ancient Artifact has been stolen from her country. Her hand is offered to the hero who returns the Artifact. Kevin is not a hero but a rival suitor is. A full scale assault will be made on the Evil Overlord but Kevin may have an ace up his sleeve. Kevin is armed with a copy of THE HANDBOOK OF PRACTICAL HEROICS. With this book he hopes to succeed where all others have failed before him.
But Kevin learns that there are things the book does not cover, such as what to do when the Princess insists on accompanying you. Not to mention the alchemist, University positions, and a whole load of other details that keep getting in the way. So how does Kevin manage to continue his mission and keep the rival hero from winning the princess? Well, you will have to read the book to see if he does.
John Moore hit the scene with SLAY AND RESCUE and recently released THE UNHANDSOME PRINCE. While those book specialized in the parody of fairy tales and the application of reality to them, this one takes one heroic fantasy and hits it on the head in the same way. Find out how an Evil Overlord climbs the social ladder to his position. See how benefits can get others to work for you. See how research grants can affect a kingdom. See more reality bump into traditional fantasy concepts in ways guaranteed to crack a smile and cause a few laughs. If you have enjoyed his other books, this one will not disappoint.

A Delightful Light Fantasy for all ages.......2007-01-04
This delightful light fantasy pleases on a couple of levels.
Of course, it is a spoof of the coventions of the fantasy genre, almost a novelization of Peter Anspach's "Evil Overlord list". However, it also works as a light-hearted story of adventure that Joseph Campbell might recognize, for the flawed hero overcomes his shortcomings with a handy how-to book that is more effective than any magic ring.
This is a quick read; if you enjoy Terry Pratchett or Piers Anthony's lighter works, you will probably enjoy this. It is well-written enough as a story that young teens may enjoy it without really caring about all the unsubtle references to classic fantasy literature.

Choose Your Own Adventure.......2007-09-10
These books are fantastic - I have fond memories of them from my childhood. As a school teacher, they are a wonderful read aloud. I let the children vote everytime there is a choice. They think they're great!
Great reading for people of all ages.......2007-09-03
We have read Choose Your Own Adventure 1-6, and our 7 year old son, my husband & I were glued to every book. The books are well written, interesting & intriguing. Not too scary but gripping. We highly reccomend these books to everyone. They can be read & reread, a real plus.
NOT the original books.......2007-04-20
My children have been enjoying some of my old Choose Your Own Adventure books from the 80's, so when I saw this rerelease of several classic books for such a reasonable price, I bought it for them. Well, apparently R.A. Montgomery wasn't able to get the rights on the original illustrations, so he had a bunch of freelance designers from Thailand draw replacement pictures for each of them, and they are AWFUL. Not just 'different,' but shockingly, unignorably BAD -- they look like cartoons drawn carelessly by teenagers, with no sense of proportion, anatomy, lighting, or anything else. The drawings in "Mystery of the Maya" are not bad but most of the others are so terrible they render the books unreadable. Leaving them unillustrated would have been better than this. Find used copies of the originals (most of which are for sale cheap on Amazon) or just pick something else to read.
Paths Too Short.......2007-03-30
You make one or two choices and the book is over. They should only have a few endings and make each path longer.
My 9-year-old LOVES these.......2007-01-10
We bought these books for our son because we remembered how much we loved them at his age. They are much quicker reads than I remember, but he loves them, so they get 5 stars. One book takes him less than 45 minutes to get through. He hasn't gotten to the stage where he goes back and makes different choices yet, but I'm sure he'll become even more fond of them then.

Good Choice for kids!.......2007-09-29
After this box set its only individual books. I'm not sure why there are
no boxes for books 13+, but books 9-12 are here and ready to take their
young readers as far as the furthest corners of the galaxy! What makes
this collection so great is the choices it gives kids. Like the two
previous, all the books have fun art and good writing, but it's the
choices that sell this series. Set a stack in front of a kid and stand
back! Just make sure you don't tell them they are really learning. Bad
news though, like I said, its individual books from here on out.
Book Description
"WHERE HAVE ALL YOUR ZONDO QUEST GROUP MEMBERS GONE? AND WHAT DO THE ANT PEOPLE HAVE TO DO WITH IT?
You have been a research member of the Zondo Quest Group II for three years. Your mission: combat the Evil Power Master, a little-known entity who is attempting to destroy individual planets one by one in his quest to control the universe. New rumors swirl that the Evil Power Master has formed an alliance with the fearsome Ant People. And today, most members of your team are missing. Are they playing a prank? Or have they become prisoners of the Ant People?
Rendoxoll swivels toward you and speaks. "All members of the Rimpoche Team are missing. The Rimpoche Team members entered the research lab at the 000170 appointed phase but have not come out. They are gone." "The Baba Ram Team is also missing. Same conditions. I need volunteers to search for them. I myself will lead. Are you two with me? We will miniaturize and begin an atomic-ray search process."
If you agree to go with Rendoxoll, turn to page 4. If you suggest that you should keep watch in the research chamber while your teammates search, turn to page 13. If you and Flppto decide to form a separate search team, go on to the next page.

Don't Even Try to Guess What Will Happen Next.......2003-08-05
In most of the Choose Your Own Adventure books you can base your decisions somewhat on logic. In this one, everything is backwards. In fact, you are usually better off ignoring the practical advice of your fellow members of the Zondo Quest Team. In a book that involves getting shrunken and encountering giant ants in an attempt to stop the Evil Power Master from destroying the universe, reason seems to falter. You can defeat the old arch-nemesis of the Zondo Quest team, but most likely you will at first get stuck in some colorful death scene or even start an aphid rebellion against ruthless ant taskmasters.
If you want a Choose Your Own Adventure with sheer random fun, this is it. Anything can happen.

Love it!.......2007-09-03
I love this cookbook. I got it 2 wks ago for my b-day. At 34, I have grown up using teflon pans, so cast iron cooking is new to me. I have made a lot of the recipes, and they all have been great! The meatloaf, the roast chicken with rosemary garlic and maple balsamic glaze, the chicken with herbed dumplings. One of my fav's is the garlic spiced prawns - a easy quick meal. My whole family of picky eaters ate the beef brisket. All ready it has notations written in it and a few spill spots - the hallmarks of a favorite cookbook.
Incredile Recipes!.......2007-09-02
This is my favorite cookbook, and I've started getting more copies and giving them as gifts. There are many wonderful, easy recipes to choose from. They call for interesting combinations of ingredients, and the results are mouth-watering with unique flavors. My favorite is Skillet-Roasted Chicken with Rosemary, Garlic and Balsamic Glaze, but there are many other wonderful gems such as Pan-Seared Wild King Salmon with Dill Tartar Sauce, or even just the Moist Cornbread.
Good recipes.......2007-03-21
I just got this book today so I have not had time to cook anything from it yet, but the recipes look great.
What impressed me the most was this is a real cookbook. It does NOT call for canned processed foods, but real food! I can't wait to try my first recipe.
Awesome.......2007-03-18
Bought some enameled cast iron pots (Lodge, and at a steep discount at a superstore) and after cooking some tried and true recipes with them, decided to expand my horizons and buy a cookbook just for the cast iron pots. I read the reviews and looked at some other cast iron cookbooks before I went to Barnes and Nobles to check it out. Loved how the simple and attractive the book was and really liked how they sounded.
Made my first meal from the book tonight and I love it! Going on another reviewer's suggestion, I made the Chicken and Apples and Roasted Rosemary Potatoes. Worked out fabulously, even though I refused to buy the Calvados for the chicken/apple dinner. Instead I used a much cheaper brandy and a quality apple cider as a substitute, mixing them half and half. It was still absolutely delicious. My college age son even said that I had to show him how to make it before he moved out on his own, lol. That alone says a lot. The rosemary potatoes were good and simple to make.
Very happy with it all. I'm planning on trying the pomegranite glazed lamb chops next with the skillet roasted asparagus.
Several great recipes.......2007-03-17
I'd buy this again as a gift for someone. Nice and well detailed recipes.
Good one
