Book Description
RASSELAS is a provocative fable about "the choice of life." Bored by the endless contentment of "the happy valley" in which he has been brought up, Prince Rasselas escapes with his sister. The rove the world searching for the secret of happiness and striving to find the ideal way to live. Repeatedly the pleasures they glimpse dissolve on closer acquaintance, and the great men they admire prove to be flawed. Where, then, are happiness and purpose to be found?
These questions, of course, remain open for every generation; but perhaps no one has dicussed them with more wisdom and humanity than Dr. Samuel Johnson. RASSELAS is a searching and often darkly humorous commentary on the human condition as well as a classic of English prose.

About 5 Complete Novels.......2007-05-11
I love the characters of Troy and Rory Allyn. Three of the 5 novels were very well written with a great deal of intrigue; however, two of the novels were so far off the wall for me I found them burdensome. On the whole, I thought the author gave too much unnecessary background to hold my interest easily without prodding myself to keep reading.

Book Description
This is the new Fourth Edition of Royalty for Commoners, the first book ever to document the complete known genealogy of John of Gaunt, son of King Edward III and Queen Philippa. The importance of this documentation is that any commoner who can connect his or her own family lineage to that of John of Gaunt can now be shown to share the same basic royal heritage as the most noble knight--the complete heritage, not just the Plantagenet ascent. This is the usual lineage through which a commoner can enter the domain of European royalty, though one might enter the lineage at any number of points.
This new Fourth Edition is a nearly completely reworking of previous editions and includes the following changes:
*Two dozen lines have been lengthened
*Sources now include dates of publication
*There are two indexes rather than one, an every-name index and an index of royal titles
*Research now ventures into the years before Christ
*The Bibliography has been significantly refined and expanded
Customer Reviews:
Royalty for Commoners.......2006-11-25
I also own this book and use it extensively, not quite as useful to me as Turton's Plantagenet Ancestry or G. Andrews Moriarity, if you can find it, but what could be. I always research a line several times before accepting it, as one must do if building an accurate family tree. I did not find it "riddled with errors" although my second edition had a number of typos, problems etc. It is easy to sit back and trash someone else's life work, it seems. Many of the very obscure, ancient lines included will probably never be fully verified and remain speculative. One thing I did find maddening however, was the the index, which listed everyone by their FIRST NAME, especially difficult in an age when there were about 13 personal names for nearly everybody. I would recommend the latest editions as a helpful tool, along with the other resources mentioned above.
Full of mistakes and a lot of lines not reliable.......2004-05-09
This book must be avoided! It is full of mistakes, some big mistakes that could let you dream about some ancestors who are not in fact.
Biggest errors are for example Makhir/Theuderic and Zaida cases.
The bibliography is bad, it looks like he added works he never saw!
Don't waste your money with this book! This is bad genealogy and you cannot be sure of anything from this book.
A great bargain.......2002-10-12
This book is a great bargain for anyone interested in early and middle medieval history and genealogy. Accumulating this data by acquiring other books would cost at least 10 times as much. A caution: legendary, mythical and even fictional lineages are mixed in with the historical lineages, so care should be taken when using the book. Applicable references are given with most of the lineages, so the list of references can be checked for the known scholarly sources (Schwennicke etc), especially on anything before AD 1000. There are also silly errors (I'm my own grandpa type stuff), but most can be spotted by careful reading.
Don't waste your money.......2002-04-29
This book has reasonably valid information in it (checked against more reliable sources), but the author makes no attempt to differentiate the reliable from the unreliable, and far too much of it is unreliable. I suspect the author doesn't even keep his database in a computer genealogical program because there are many internal inconsistencies (I'm my own grandpa kinds of inconsistencies) that all the respectable genealogical software would catch.
Avoid this book.......2002-03-20
No genealogical researcher should touch this book. All editions have been riddled with errors, and the latest is no exception. The spellings are frequently wrong, the lines are often inaccurate, mythical lines are not distinguished from historical ones, highly conjectural lines are not distinguished from proven ones, and most of the books and articles associated with many of the lines are completely unrelated to the material they allegedly cover. No statement in the book can be trusted at face value. Even if you want to use it just as a finding aid, double check everything.

Roderick is a robot and this is his autobiography. Sladek conveys, with great sensitivity and insight the innocence of an artificial intelligence and asks profound questions about mankind's right to manipulate others. It also portrays how a numerological mind might structure a narrative.
Inventive, funny yet melancholy this is one of SF's greatest creative geniuses writing at his thought-provoking best.

Book Description
Including a representative range of ceramics from the fifth to the twentieth century and items in various other materials, the collection of Korean art in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, is one of the finest outside of the Far East. Although Korea's ceramics equal China's in quality and technique, they are far less known. Compiled by Yun Yong-i and edited by Regina Krahl, this richly illustrated catalog provides detailed information on each object, as well as background studies on Korean culture and ceramic technology.
Customer Reviews:
unfortunately, mediocre text, pictures, and selection.......2006-11-03
I was disappointed by this book because Gompertz's own book on Korean celadon and Yi ceramic was (and still is) standard english reference book to study Korean ceramics. Gompertz studied many Japanese scholars at that time, and made his own perception on the beauty of Korean ceramics.
In this new book, there was no further improvement of Gompertz legacy. His ceramics are not compared to other masterpieces, and there are not enough detail analysis of the various colors, firing, and techniques. The picture quality is mediocre, and when you want to show the subtle celadon glaze, picture quality is very important. There is no new information on the text. The scholars should have tried to compare Chinese Song celadon and Korean celadon since we now have enough information about the influence between Song and Koryo period unlike the time when Gompertz was doing his research.
So far, the best books on Korean celadon/Yi ceramics are published by Japanese publishers (even better than Korean) so I recommend those books even if you cannot read Japanese, and buy the original Gompertz book for text. And price of $200..this is hard to justify.

Very old fake-scientific garbage.......2007-01-26
The guy uses his blender to break molecules and free the juice! See? One's tempted to quote forever from this laughable treatise, so funny it is, but... verbum sat sapienti. Idiots will buy anything, but you've been warned.
-------------------------------------------------
PS. OK, I can't resist -- a few quotes (capitalization preserved; in no particular order, just read the bits -- this must be enough):
"It has only been within the past two Centuries that people generally awakened to the realization ... the manner in which the body utilises the minerals and Vitamins comprising such food. ... The results ... have been almost phenomenal the World over, particularly in the area of Juice Therapy. ... Even though such fibers reach the Colon in microscopic ... take the best of what IS available and Praise the Lord for what you CAN get. ... be sure to pick the freshest ... buying your vegetables for Salads or making your Juices."
"Life as LIFE cannot be explained, so we describe enzymes as a Cosmic Energy Principle or vibration which promotes a chemical action ... cooked foods ... [do not] have the power to regenerate the atoms which furnish the life force to our body. ... surprisingly large percentage of the atoms making up the nourishment ... triturate the vegetables ... thereby splitting open the interstices of the cells of the fibers, liberating the atoms and molecules."
"I have found that the toxic sprays are retianed in the fibers ... and are not present in the fiber-free juices. ... Our Creator gave food both as nourishment and as medicine. ... just consider how much more concetnrated than the juices are the following items used as food: soy bean and soy bean flour are 870% more concentrated that carrot juice and 940% more than celery juice. Popcorn is 2100% more concentrated than carrot juice and 2300% more than celery juice. White sugar in 4200% more concentrated that carrot juice and 4600% more than celery juice. "
"When the juice is incompletely extracted from the vegetable or fruit, they are in the form of vital organic water ... their effective power is ... diminished due to the absence of the vitamins and enzymes which are left behind in the fiber and the pulp. ... pesticides and sprays ... it is FIBERS that collect these toxins. The enzymes, atoms and molecules are allergic to them. ... our Blessings have been multiplied beyond what we think we deserve, besides having the vibrations of our food raised to their highest nutritional point. It is the Hand of the Almighty God that guides us in our discoveries. We pass them on to you."
-----
I could simply retype the whole book here, but the small portions above should suffice to show you what goes one in this book. It was originally published in 1938 -- a while ago, but still, 1938 isn't 1638. The author signs his name as D. Sc., which I take to mean "doctor of science". What efin science was this half-literate impostor a doctor of? Nothing comes to mind. Anyway, it's 2007 now. There are mountains of real scientifically based health and nutrition books; written by real scientists; in standard English; based on real, verifiable, current scientific research. In other words, there is no reason whatsoever to pollute your mind with Mr Walker's rubbish. And there's never been, come to think of it.
Otoh, collectors of pseudo-scientific garbage may want to get this book for its historic and curio values. I have never seen anything quite like it; it reads like a 16-century alchemy manual.
Pure & Simple.......2006-07-02
It was suggest to me to buy this book when I purchased my first juicer. I love this book. I have read it over and over and enjoy the carrots with 1 stalk of celery juiced daily. I wish I could enjoy fresh juice during the day, but you can't juice at work! My skin, hair and overall health has improved since I started juicing. I took this one step further and bought his other book, Pure & Simple Natural Weight Control, which talks about juicing and raw foods. It give such insight of how the body digests food, and make you want to eat for nurishment. I recently read a article on raw food diet that names Mr. Walker and said he died at 118 from a accident. You won't be dissapointed with anything Mr. Walker has written.
You can be your own Doctor.......2005-05-06
This book has turned into my health bible. I have given this as a gift to many friends and family members. Use this as your guide to curing and fighting desease. You can feed your body the nutrients it needs to heal itself. I teach juicing and raw food preparation classes, this is one of the books that inspired me and I recomend it to all that attend my classes.
Fruit juices?.......2004-09-27
The title says fruit juices, but he hardly mentions them in this book! Well, i guess he preferred to eat them since they digest easier than veggies. He says enzymes can be preserved at any desired low temperature without loss, which i didn't know. He also says that the sprays and pesticides are retained in the fiber, not the juice! He says a lot of good things about raw goats milk, and apple cider vinegar. Also says that the sea & ocean are full of minerals, so you should take sea-salt, kelp, and dulse. And if you wanna eat flesh, choose fish! And take a look in the ailments list, he lists nymphomania! Great book.
Can't go Wrong..........2004-03-28
I came across this book at GNC many years ago, and it turned me onto juicing, and trying to take better care of myself.
Unlike other books that deal with juicing and raw foodism, it isn't sensational, it is basic, and the juicing recipes can be used with items at your grocery store, not at a specialty health food store.
I recommend all of Dr. Walker's books.
