Its a great fun read........2006-10-03
This is a great book. I do not suggest it as a replacement for a translation like NIV, NASB, KJV, etc. But if accepted as just the gospel in a different light, its a great laugh.
I don't think the book is really meant to used a "scripture" but as a comic relief. It only contains the four gospels, so it diffently cannot be a Bible replacement.
I really liked this book and its great to read aloud in a gathering of young adults. I take no offense to the language as I am black, and have said some of the same phrases before in my life.

If the target audience is inner-city black children who have unwittingly picked up Southern California surfer lingo, then this book succeeds on all accounts. That most likely NOT being the case, however, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when faced with this work.
The heart is in the right place, but either the language needs some updating, or we need to change the title to The Gospel According to Jeff Spicoli.
Three stars for an honest effort. Keep up the the ministering.

I sure hope the reader who talked about the "real Bible" has been reading it in the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. The Bible deserves to be translated into whatever language is appropriate for its audience, whether they speak Greek, Latin, English, or BEV (Black English Vernacular, which is a dialect of English whose grammar apparently looks "bad" to the aforementioned other reader.) Implying that blacks are "too dumb" to read the regular Bible is like saying that Americans are "too dumb" to read the Bible in Latin. Intelligence has nothing to do with it; the crucial thing is to read the Word of God in the vernacular that will most allow you to get the Word into your heart. Peace Out.

This book is a really great way to share the gospel with those (especially our youth of today) who might be intimidated by, or resistant to "religious" materials. It is meant to be used as an evangelical tool to lead others deeper into their studies of the bible, and it does!
It's a great intro for someone who thinks of all bibles as KJV and hard to read, or that the bible is not applicable to our world today. This book never pretends to be a study bible with word for word accuracy, but instead reaches out to those for whom this vernacular is familiar, to present the basics in a fun and non-threatening way. This is clearly a seeker's/beginner's guide. If the author's style of writing isn't for you, just pick a more popular translation. This book does exactly what it set out to do, which is to bring the gospel message to the people in a language they can understand. It also makes them feel as if someone really understands where they are coming from and therefore makes for an easier witness! :)

I can appreciate and I am thankful for additional forms of expressing the message. Someone has to do it and like it or not, we live in a society in which this book could be a useful tool. Not to be confused with our "sacred scriptures", but can be used as an additional method. I have utilized the Black Bible Chronicles many times, and I was anxious to see this author's next work. Anyway, I recommend it. It is very easy reading and I appreciate the author's desire to bring more clarity to people who need it. By the way, who says only black kids communicate this way?

Like most of the "Dragonlance" books not authored by Weis and Hickman, this novel gives us characters that we never really warm up to and a storyline that doesn't really fall into place with the rest of the series. A total downer and a waste of good wood pulp.

Being a true DL fan, This book basicly [stunk].
I have a tendency to Compare all DL Books to "The Legend of Huma" and when done so, this book is lacking.
The begining is slow, the write had no idea how to shape a book based on a dwarf. Don't get me wrong, I like Dwarves, they are one of the better races of krynn, but this one was just, bleh.
I continually wanted to find another book. I made myself read it all the way through, and about the middle of the book, it gets pretty good, but the action can't hold this one above water. The rest of the storyline and character descriptions are just way to gone to call it good.
This book [stunk]. If you have nothing else to read, then, by all means this one is for you, but if you can scrape up the $10.00 for a new one, do it! Save this one for when you are ready for bed, because it will put you to sleep!
This blade is dull.......2002-05-08
Blah. Weak. Flat. Boring. These are just a few of the words that describe this book. As with the other Heroes books it's not really part of the Dragonlance canon, so there isn't much to miss if you decide to skip it. There is a bit about the Companions, but it is brief and actually doesn't fit well with the Chronicles (this book takes place between books 1 and 2 of that series). Supposedly the Companions "fought to recover the Hammer of Kharas" but in this book it seems like the fighting was for something else and the Hammer gets found later. I won't dwell on these issues though, let's break the book down a little:
Writing: Its fine, I'm not expecting classical literature in a pulp fantasy novel, and I'm not going to mark a book down for lacking something I didn't hope it would have. The action scenes and dialog were good, but not enough to carry the book.
Story: Except for the fact that it relies on a rather irrational event (A ranger's gifting of a priceless sword to a barmaid he never met before), the rest is borderline. Political events often serve as a good backdrop to stories of love and hate, but this one doesn't really pull it off. The love is contrived, the hate/revenge is simplistic, and the politics are downplayed to be predictable to make room for the action.
Characters: Here is where the book really stumbles. The characters are so predictable and stereotypical (even for fantasy) that you really don't care who lives or dies. The stoic good-hearted elf, the lovesick young human woman, the stubborn honor-bound dwarf, the evil one-eyed henchmen, etc. At the end an important character dies and I really wasn't moved at all.
About halfway through this book I found myself eyeing my shelf for what I wanted to read next, which is not a good sign. Considering how many other (better) Dragonlance books are out there, I would save this one until the end, or just skip it entirely.
Interesting if not good..........2002-01-18
This was the first book I read not directly inovlving the companions. At first, I couldn't get into it, because the setting of the scene was rather mundane. But as the story heats up a bit, it makes a yarn well worth reading. There were a couple of holes (didn't the companions kill Verminaard before they came to Thorbardin?), but they are mainly minor.
The characters are fairly simplistic, without much detail into their personalities, apart from the dwarf Stanach, and that infuriating kender Lavim. Piper's flute and Hauk giving the sword away are a bit ridiculous.
This author's work may not quite compare to the Chronicles and Legends series, but is still worth a quick scan. Stormblade is OK.
Slow at the beginnig, but greater going ahead.......2001-12-05
Thi is a strange book to describe: I've read lots of dragonlance books and several times the first 50-100 pages were a little booring because the writer was setting up the situation.
This is one of those...in the first part (120-150)I spent months...I wasn't cought from the story! But Later on it becomes very dinamic, funny and intriguingand I couldn't stop reading. It has an explosive end, but at the very end it introduces something else: the mith of the "Hammer"...and that's, unfortunally, another story!
A story about relation between Halflings, Half Elves, Uman an Dwarves.
Averall it's good book.

This was one of the worst books I have ever read.
It has a few interesting ideas in it but is largely ruined by his hackneyed view of robots. They seem no different than humans other than that they are cautious and methodical.
Simak also decides to throw a love story in. Hell, why not?
Really bad lines like "Oh, Jason, I've been running, running all my life" had me cringing.
Avoid this piece of trash and read City by the same author. Much more worth your time.
Contemplation & Science Fiction........2004-03-30
Simak is many things, but never typical science fiction. Project Pope is one of his most challenging novels, and also one of the ones that hold up best over time.
A good place to begin with Simak and an introduction to his worlds of speculation, religious questions, and the desire for contact. One of the things that I like best is that Simak understands that in some cases it may be easier to make contact with aliens than to make contact with other humans.
What is a robot to do?.......2003-01-01
What is a robot to do when the world's largest Christian religion refuses to recognize it as a child of God. Start its own religion, of course. And this is what project Pope is all about, robots' search for God. In the end, they succeed beyond their wildest dreams, proving that God does not discriminate, but makes Himself known to all who seek Him...even robots!
A very inspirational novel!
Not exciting, but totally fascinating........2001-11-09
In this book, Simak explores ideas about what it means to be human, mankind's search for knowledge, the need for spiritual fulfillment, and what ultimately brings us happiness. Heavy stuff for a science fiction novel, and this is a great book to handle it.
This was the first of Simak's books I read, and it inspired me to immediately look for more. I think it's a real page-turner for the intellectual set and if you're into books where there isn't a lot of action but there's plenty to think about, you'll love this one.
My one caveat is that the ending is a bit weak - I was left with the feeling that while the most vital elements of the plot had been resolved, the story could easily have gone on for another thousand pages or so. Perhaps Simak didn't do a good job of bringing conclusiveness to the end of the book, or perhaps he just created such an interesting story that I was left craving more, it's hard to say.
Project Pope.......2000-04-22
Very interesting and very clever. Interesting, because Simak presents new insights in the longstanding debate between theology and science, faith and knowledge. Clever, because Simak's characters and their worlds are breathtakingly imaginative. He peoples his planet, the End of Nothing, with a variety of fascinating creatures, from robot cardinals to a computer pope to a sentient cloud of molecules. All have souls and all seek the truth. In many ways, this novel reminds me of C.S. Lewis -- had Lewis not been so sure of himself and his theology.

do robots have souls?.......2007-08-03
I'd read City and was enthralled with the story. I went ahead and purchased a whack of his (Simak) books. As I read the others, i became a lot less enthusiastic. The covers didn't draw me in (Project Pope was no different in that respect). Our Children's Children, Cemetary World, were OK. And Destiny Doll was OK too.
A common thread through his books are a return to a simpler time, living close to the land. no different at "The End of Everything" where robots migrated a thousand yrs ago, copying the human institution of the Vatican, feeding information into the goal of religious community of 'Vatican-17', an infallible computer Pope.
Humans are an adjunct to the project in the Listeners, who travel telepathically to other worlds gathering information and in the townsfolk, largely unmentioned, but who form the laity of sorts.
The main protagonist is Jason Tennyson, a physician fleeing from trumped charges from another world, who finds a sanctuary and a peace in the community, much of it in taking long walks and communing with the mountains in the distance.
The factions of Vatican-17 are set against each other when a Listener claims to have visited the literal Heaven. Does the Vatican turn inward, cut off the Listeners, and seek 'faith' instead of outward and science?

I refer to this book time and time again for the specific benefits that fruits and veggies have as well as tons of juicing recipes specifically targeting different ailments. Highly reccomended. I personally own a different juicer other than the Juiceman's but the wealth of info applies to any true juicer.

My parents bought the juice man juicer and book when I was in highschool, and my family started juicing. I noticed an immediate difference in my acne, my energy levels and my performance on the volleyball court. After a while we phased out- preparing fresh juice for five people everyday took a lot of time and money. Here I am, 8 years latter, living on my own and juicing everyday. I "borrowed" my mom's juicer, bought my own "Power of Juicing" and got on my way to a healthy lifestyle. With all the fresh fruit and veggies, I gave up fast food (which I thought I could NEVER do- through work and college, I ate fast food on the run twice everyday!) and I lost 10 pounds within a month. Now I consult my juiceman book everyday and I have my boyfriend hooked on the fresh fruit and veggie juices as well. We feel great. I even began to work-out again and I am back to what I weighed in highschool. That is a total loss of 25 pounds. Juicing motivates me and gives me energy throughout the day. I recommend juicing to everyone I know, and I think Jay Kordich is definitely on to something!

I never knew that vegatable juices could taste this great!!!. My husband and I have been juicing our way to better health from day one after recieving a copy of Jay's book. If we do not have a glass of carrot and apple juice to start our morning, we do not feel good.

A simple juicing book with TONS of recipes.......2007-10-05
This is a nice, straight forward juicing book that offers some "extras." It's simple, but it has an extensive array of recipes and leaves no stone unturned.
There's a section on produce that tells the reader what each item is good for (which vitamins and minerals it contains) and how to buy and store them.
The "Juiceman" also includes a crash course in all the nutrients we need to be healthy, WHAT we need them for, and in which juices we can find them in.
At the end of the book, the author includes a Q&A section and tips and points on how to make juicing an integral part of your life and what to eat to compliment a diet chock full of fresh juices.
All in all, this is a great book. It may not appeal to some who are in search of something a little more fancy, with a more complex layout. But, everything considered, it's a sure bet.
