Book Description
An all-new version of one of the key titles in the entire Forgotten Realms novel line.
This title is the fourth in a series of recovers of the popular Avatar series. At the time of its original release, this series presented key events that impacted the entire Forgotten Realms world, and the effects of those events are still felt in current novels. This re-released series features a cohesive cover design and all-new art.
Revenge of a God
The Time of Troubles is at an end, and the gods have been restored to their rightful places.
The soul of Kelemvor Lyonsbane, former lover of the goddess of magic, remains hidden from the mad god Cyric.
The will of one such as Cyric, when bent on revenge, is not so easily thwarted.

Nice Fantasy Side Note........2006-06-28
First of all, I began reading this book in 1993, tried again in each year to follow and just couldnt get into it. My renewed interest in the Forgotten Realms prompted me forward. I can now say this is a really good book, filled with much action and important events to update the elaborate fantasy world.
With that said, the plot is easy to pick up for those familiar with the original trilogy. I believe it is better than the trilogy. The story is contained within a single, stand alone novel that is much easier to handle. I cannot see the point of these trilogies that old TSR continued to publish. Well the obvious is the cliffhanger to get the moneyspending reader to buy the next edition.
Frankly, there are only a handful of authors who could keep my attention with this genre. Most of the stories are like comic books with cardboard characters. This one provides some authentic and memorable folk that we can relate to. Rinda and Gwidion are above the mark for TSR. Cyric is the most hateful villain ever created in the Realms. He gets what he deserves and I was very satisfied with the ending.
Keep in mind also this is a novel that can be enjoyed on its own. The Realms seem to demand to be visited over and over. I will keep doing so if good novels like this one get published. Hollywood take note. Especially a filmaker who likes a good fantasy with endless blockbuster sequels.
Pulpy but otherwise enthralling.......2006-06-05
I picked this book up having never read any of the previous Avatar series but some familiarity with the major events thanks to the Baldur's Gate computer games. So there were some details that I had to skim over. That said, I ended up re-reading this book not too long ago and enjoyed it nearly as much as the first time.
What Mr. Lowder does so admirably in this book is explore the motivations and worldview of the Realms' gods. Another reviewer was clearly irritated by their squabbling, intractability, and other qualities unbecoming to our image of a divine being. Which is precisely how the Realms is structured, for better or worse. While to the ordinary Realms mortal a god may seem inscrutable and all-powerful, Lowder sets up a brilliant and vividly executed series of godly interactions, where each is focused on the promotion of their particular sphere of influence. What makes this doubly interesting is the megalomaniacal Cyric, who as the god of lies and deception as well as a number of other nasty qualities, is just as good at deceiving himself as any other being.
The godly intrigues are intertwined with the travails of a human fighter and a few denizens of Zhentil Keep, but clearly it's the non-mortals who are the real stars. While lacking the grandeur and emotional depth of some of the classics of fantasy (LOTR, Dragonlance Chronicles and Legends, "The Legend of Huma"), the pacing is quick, and the plot twists are unexpected and believable. Congrats to Mr. Lowder for producing such an entertaining and memorable book!
big events, weak logic...avoid if you like your story to make sense at all........2005-09-12
I like my book to make sense, that the logic behind an action and the capability of the person to carry that action is credible.
That's why I love Salvatore's Drizzt stories.
Here in this book, you will find the struggle between gods/goddesses. Big event to happens in the Forgotten Realms. Sadly it's delivered in such a weak manner.
You'll find that sometimes the god/goddesses can be soooo powerful that they can literally rid off another god with a shrug and yet other time to find them so pathetically weak that they can't even destroy an item made by human and imbued using magic (with minimum sacrifice I should add).
If your entertainment is reading a book with random event weave together without much thought on the logic behind it, then this is your book.
If you like your story to make sense, then avoid this book at all cost. Stick to Drizzt's books.
An AMAZING sequel to an AMAZING trilogy!!!.......2004-06-05
If you enjoyed The Avatar Trilogy- Shadowdale, Tantras, and Waterdeep, you will love the Prince of Lies! The books are so incredibly well written that the reader feels that they have been transported to another plane of existence and are actually present among the characters, seeing what they see, feeling what they feel, sensing what they sense. The authors have truly outdone themselves and have presented us with a masterpiece of literature the likes of which we have seen only in JRR Tolkien's work, RA Salvatore's The Dark Elf and Icewind Dale trilogies, and in authors Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman's Dragonlance Chronicles and Legends trilogies. Magic, Gods and Heroes are all about. In conclusion, it's what Fantasy reading SHOULD be. A GREAT book indeed and a must read along with Troy Denning's Crucible: The Trial of Cyric! DON'T MISS IT!!!
Awesome book.......2003-10-23
I frequently read Forgotten Realms books, and find them to be an entertaining way to kill some time. This was, however, far more. This follows the events in the "Avatar Trilogy" and does the job of being a sequel quite well. I must recommend that you read the other books first to understand the history preceeding this one, but it's not at all required. The plot line revolves around the struggles of the gods. Cyric plots to usurp the minds of all gods and mortals to his will, and Mystra tries to stop him. Though the plot is simple in its most basic form, the interaction of the gods, and indeed of the mortals, makes the book great. Indeed, if the struggles between the gods is the meat of this novel, it's the mortals who make it a double whopper with cheese. Throughout the book, it is the uncertainty as to their fate that will keep you reading, and the destiny that awaits them in the end that makes the reading worth it.
Book Description
A Skeptical look at Vice President Al Gore and his bid to become President. Information not found in other books that comes complete with footnotes. This is the most complete and timely book about Al Gore and the facts that are needed by voters before ballots are cast in the critical 2000 Presidential Election.
Customer Reviews:
BUllSH**.......2007-05-29
don't waste a minute with this moral majority TRASH. it's sad to live in a country where brains don't net you a thing...votes, respect, the right to preside over the MAJORITY who voted you in as president.
I miss the old Al Gore!.......2005-08-30
Yeah I miss the old Al Gore. The Al Gore that would exploit his sisters death to win votes on a campaign trail then totally reverse his opinion (sorta of like John Kerry eh, Flip/Flop) when on another campaign again to gain votes and saying what he knew the people wanted to hear. That old Al GORE would speak out for or against abortion based on his audience. Hey John Kerry was not the first or only Flipper in the democrat party. But I liked that Al Gore. He kept you wondering. He ven claimed that he invented the internet. But then said he didn't invent it, he just created it! (HUH???) He would say a Zebra can't change it's spots and in front of USA Today reporters while in France on seeing busts of Jefferson, Adams and Washington, asked :Who are those guys."
I liked that Al Gore. He was sorta of like a real life Al Bundy.
Perhaps Gore should be a shoe salesman.
The new Al Gore is a boisterous, bellowing, loud mouthed 50+ punk who acts like a teenager at a high school football game. The new Al Gore makes Teddy Kennedy sound timid and is just about as clueless. The new Al Gore is obviously filled up with hate, but then again this is the man who in his hierarchy of values put himself first and his country last. So why be surprised?
This is an excellent book about the real Al Gore. All Americans need to read it and all democrats definitely need to read it to see just who you have running, actually make that ruining your party and the United States of America!
Also recommend 100 People Who Are Ruining America (Al Gore made the list) and At Any Cost: How Al Gore Tried To Steal The Election. If you think this guy is a saint, think again!
The real Al Gore is showcased here...............2004-09-12
I discovered the real Al Gore during his debate with former VP Dan Quale back in 1992. Quale completely dominated that debate and punched holes through Gore's claims about what the democrat party could do for America. Quale also pointed out that any economic gains that might happen if the democrat party came in would be due to the republicans, most notably the late Ronald Reagan who created the polices that would make that growth possible coupled with the fact that the republicans still would control the house even if Clinton won.
Gore seemed unprepared and outclassed. He looked like a teenager who had no clue what was really going on. Unfortunately, the Clinton/Gore team did win back in 1992 (thanks to the media which were even so bold as to claim that Gore won that debate!) but I never forgot that old debate or the one that followed when Gore debated Ross Perot when Clinton refused and once again Gore was clueless.
Prince Albert will tell you things about Al Gore that only FOX NEWS would release and the rest of the media, the mainstream media will ignore.
Also recommend At Any Cost: How Al Gore Tried To Steal The Election by Bill Sammon.
More people should have read this prior to election '2000.......2004-08-06
To all the people who think that Al Gore is a paragon of virtue and a champion of truth. To those of you who think that Al Gore would have made a great President, pick up a copy of Prince Albert and then get down on your knees and thank God that the right man won in 2000 and that hopefully we are finally rid of this pathetic human being called Al Gore, Jr.
udderly ridiculous.......2004-07-08
I wish I could get my money back for this book. Bossie is clearly trying to rise the ranks of right wing distorters by throwing blames everywhere. This book is chuck full of nonsense and is intended to distract readers from the real problems. I recommend this book to all the Rush Limbaugh wannabees, but to all who realize the ridiculous partisanship and distortion on both sides is not helpful, then read a book a someone who has actual experience in the political realm!

An unusual story.......1998-11-08
A wonderful book from Robyn Donald, interesting to read from page one to the end. The characters are really great. A story of two people meeting and falling in love in the wrong place at the wrong time. This book really captured my heart.

Florin's Third Adventure.......2006-05-26
This novel features humans (of course) and Skaven.
Florin and Lorenzo make it back home to Bordeleux with Katerine and Sergei and receive their payment. Unfortunately for Mordicio and Comtesse Hansebourg (Katerina's mother), Katerina married Sergei, when Mordicio and the Comtesse had arranged a marriage between Rabin (Mordicio's son) and Katerina. So the nobles conspire to have to get rid of Sergei because there is no other way to declare the marriage void (Florin is a witness to the marriage, and a Captain in the navy married Katerina and Sergei). A skaven is hired to assassinate Sergei, and another adventure begins...
This book isn't as good as the previous books although it started off well and had a lot of promise. The biggest problem with this book (and the others) is that Florin and co. face insurmountable odds at every turn, but it never really feels like they could lose--it never seems like it's difficult for them to win.
Yes, Sergei was murdered, but even that was predictable. When I read Wild Kingdoms and there was the struggle between Sergi and Florin over who would get Katerina, I knew that in the end Florin would win. Maybe if Lorenzo or Katerina were killed then it would seem like it was actually difficult for Florin to overcome these insurmountable odds, but I seriously doubt the author will kill off these characters. I don't know, maybe I'm being unfair about this.
This book was pretty predictable but worth reading if you're a Warhammer fanatic. I'm not so sure I could stand another Florin adventure, so I hope this is that last book Robert Earl writes about Florin.

How many can you murder?.......2000-05-01
Humility Garden, the first book, was alright, so I bought and read this one hoping that things would improve. The characters of these two books take life far too lightly, and for a book with characters capable of performing all sorts of miracles, why is Humility still blind at the end of the second book, and Arity still cursed with growing thorns, and...? I didn't like alot of the society of these books- the murderous Ghostiers, for example, and never came to understand the motivations of the majority of the characters.
Good. :)+=.......1999-01-27
I waited almost a year to read the sequel, and I was expecting something special. This book is good, but Humility is very worn out in this book and only gains her spirit back during the last 5 pages. The charaters were believable (though not always likeable.) If you've read the first book, read this one, even if it is just to find out what the hell happened. Be prepared, however, to want to slowly kill Arity.

A fast start, with a quartet of Arab killers with poison weapons looking to prevent Doc numbering among the living for much longer.
They capture him, and for some reason want a submarine. He takes them to the Hidalgo trading company and gets the drop on them there, knowing the layout. In the dark, he also kayoes Monk, and they come across a stunning, seemingly mute, shockingly white-haired woman.

Then it is a trip on the Helldiver, to find the mysterious Crying Rock, and on to the Phantom City.
Some violence ensues, and it seems the Arab bunch were after a precious metal that exists there.
Doc, being a nice guy, arms the inhabitants to give them more of a chance against the White Beast monsters.

Too Much Dust.......2001-02-12
If this were a movie it would be rated "R". It does not include foul language, erotic nudity, but it is filled with bloody and gory violence.
The story is about the Hart Brothers (the good guys) and the odd characters they pickup on their way to the anticipated Cedar City Rendezvous. There is a lot of dust flying around in the scene descriptions of this book; however, the dust does not subside when we are trying, for example, to understand the premise, rules, and outcome of the Cedar City Rendezvous. At times through the dust Douglas Savage gives us some redeemable moments. One learns of the need for horse care on the trail and the inadequacies of that day's "handirons". We also get a taste of "blinding sun", "rancid buckskins" and "ammonia vapors simmering up from pools of horse urine". On one hand we discover of the Cheyenne's respect for the bear and on the other we read a gratuitous account of descriptive mayhem committed by the Third Colorado Cavalry at Sand Creek in 1864.
This novel is not one of the brightest stars of story telling; much less of the Western genre.

Customer Reviews:
Great Mech battle Action.......2007-07-30
A well written book that includes lots of mech battles, a great heroine with the countess of Northwind who is a Mechwarrior of the highest order, perhaps one of the greatest of her time.
A good book, but I miss the good old days.......2005-06-21
This was a good book, and i enjoyed reading it. It had a good plot and good characters. I'm not much of a writer so thats about all I have to say except for I'm getting sick of constructions mechs. I miss the good old days when the fighting involved battle mechs not construction equipment. I miss Super Novas, Mad Cats, Thors, ect.
They can't call the book mechwarrior when there are like four actual battlemechs in the story. Plus one was a koshi, and as far as I'm concerned a koshi is just as bad as a construction mech.
Thats the only problem I have with these books, aside from the lack of mechs, and actual fighting these books are okay.
Dark Age- eh?.......2004-10-09
As with most Battletech readers, when I heard about a whole new set of novels coming out, i thought, great.
But my god, what is this rubbish?
They made a little circle, called it the republic, and everyone gave up there mechs (which makes calling the series Mechwarriors pretty wierd).
All the good characters are gone, you hear a tiny bit about Victor Davion and his kids, but thats it.
The whole thing doesn't make any sence. If the Republic is falling apart, is the rest of the IS just watching? Who is incharge of the Great Houses? Why have the clans given up all their Mechs too? Doesn't that stop them being clansmen?
The whole of Mechwarrior DarkAge makes no sence, is badly explained, and ruined (for me atleast) the whole battletech series. After all, it takes some of the enjoyment out of reading the clasic Battletech books when you know that ultimatley every storyline in battletech doesn't follow on into this, evey plot, all the history, isn't reflected in anyway in the new Dark Age series.
I bought a load of these Dark Age books in one go, and I wish I'd just got one first, because I wouldn't have bought any others.
Anyone whole Likes Battletech, stay well away from these books. Complete Crap.
BattleTech needs to be cleand-up..........2003-07-24
Being a fan of BattleTech for over 10 years, I must say I've seen my share of good and bad novels, soucre books, games, etc... I was not very happy with the new Dark Age setting, as somet things just dont make too much sense (I am still struggling with the fact that some Clans - or maybe all - actually GAVE UP their mechs). I think there is a lack of consistency in this series - and this book. If A. Kerensky is such a good MW, she should have ripped the Paladin apart. Second, the Clans are depicted as rather naive - being tricked very easily. This may have been the case when they first invaded, but even in Classical Btech they learned lessons!! Did they actually FORGET everything? After living in the IS for decades, one would think they'd learn something about the people they live with.
The story itself is not bad, but the action is little ridiculus.
Skillful writing, good balance.......2003-07-22
Having just read several of the "Mechwarrior: Dark Age" novels in the past few weeks, this one stands out as a journeyman piece of writing. It is certainly ahead of amateurish efforts like "the Ruins of Power." In DelRio's novel the descriptions are fresh and show a flair for fresh images, the characters are genuinely interesting and make sense, with sensible and believable motivations, and the books' "straight-ahead" plot draws us forward to learn the fate of Northwind.
In case anyone cares, the title is taken from a line in Shakespeare's Hamlet. Much of the book's fascination comes with the clash of two well-drawn woman characters-- Anastasia Kerensky, who is also known as Tassa Kay, and Tara Campbell, the beautiful Dutchess of Northwind. The character of Tassa Kay comes forward from another "Mechwarrior: Dark Age" novel entitled "Call to Duty." She was the most interesting character in that novel, and she loses little of her luster here. Tassa/Anastasia is a warrior, but also a rather hot number with a flair for passionate, extracurricular love affairs.
Since I really enjoyed this book, I will very much look forward to the second and third volumes of the trilogy. Yup, that's right-- this is the first book of a 3-volume trilogy.
Probably the trilogy structure accounts for one of the greatest faults of "A Silence in the Heavens," which is the lame, unsatisfying ending. It is more a hiatus than a true ending, since the writer is priming us for the second novel.
It probably should be mentioned that the book well balances "palace intrigue" against battle action. Two major battles are portrayed in detail as the author skillfully incorporates several points of view -- an infantryman's view, a tank commander's view, a mechwarrior's view, and the supreme commander's view. Some readers have complained about particular BattleTech novels as being starved for action scenes-- they will surely be satisfied with "A Silence in the Heavens."
A good book. I eagerly await the remaining volumes of this trilogy.

Good Resource for Baking.......2007-10-01
This book is a requirement for my pastry class at the American River College in Sacramento, CA.
The instructions and recipes are easy to follow. The book has great diagrams for different techniques.
Gift for a pastry chef........2007-08-29
My friend is a pastry chef and has been wanting this book; I got it for her as a birthday present. She has used it on a regular basis and loves it. I looked through it as well. It is not for the faint-of-heart (those trepidacious aboput baking). Itis very thourough in its explanations and descriptions.
The Best There Is!.......2007-07-25
Chef Bo was a terrific teacher, and that carries through to this book. It is, hands down, the best book on the topic of baking that there is. Someone else recommended that you get a scale too -- I heartily second that! This is not a book for the volumetrically focused. It is, however, a fantastic book for the professional or the devoted amateur.
Not Bad.......2007-06-02
This book is packed with USABLE information on a great range of subjects. My only complaint is that all recipies are in cups, tablespoons, etc.. Bakers' percentages are what a real baker needs (which is covered in the book). I own a bakery and would laugh at someone measuring with cups and teaspoons in a professional setting. If I want to use a recipe from the book I have to go back and figure out all of the percentages. Lots of great info though.
awesome Book.......2007-05-29
This book was used as a reference in the culinary school I graduated from, the advanced book and professional baker book are also awesome. the text and instructions are easy to follow, even though it could use more pictures, its still a great book to learn from.
