Being a fan of the Myst series since it's original launch in the early 1990's, I can say that this book lives of to the expectations that Myst/Uru fans have come to appreciate. It's easy to read, flows well, has a great underlying story. After reading, you are able to understand and appreciate the island of Myst and Riven so much more. It's an easy book to read, which makes it great for both young and old. Though the book is around 400 pages, it flies by and as always, I was sad to finish it, but there are two more sequels to entertain the Myst fan in all of us.

I read this book when I was younger and only remember great things. Looking back on it now I can tell that the writing isn't exactly scholarly, but that doens't matter, Myst is a fun adventure story that all kids and teens should enjoy. And no, I'm not a big fan of fantasy myself, but I had no trouble getting drawn in.

How good can you get?.......2006-04-30

The Myst series was such a wonderful series, after I found out they made a book about the history of Myst, I basically thought that it would be horrible. Grave mistake. This is one of the best books I have ever read. It couldn't get any better.
The creators of Myst even helped make it, and they knew what they were making. The horrible thing is that these books were discontinued.
Even if they were discontinued, it is not a reason not to buy them. They are all wonderful books and I suggest you get all of them.

This book starts off where BoT (Book of Ti'ana) had left off. It introduces young Atrus as he begins to learn the D'ni life and their past. Atrus learns everything, from the life of his grandfather, his mother, and the D'ni through the voice of his grandmother, Anna. When his father, Gehn, a son of the couple Anna (Ti'ana) and the fated Aitrus, comes into the cleft to pick up his son to take him to D'ni. Atrus begins to learn more about D'ni life, their culture, their talents, everything. Until his father became mad.

The Book of Atrus is yet another fantastic novel written by the talented Rand Miller. It leaves a wonderful ending for the PC game Riven: The Sequel to Myst which is a computerized/playable sequel of this novel. This is one of the finest novels alongside Book of Ti'ana. It introduces our hero Atrus in his young life. This is definitely recommended and it's a wonderfully written novel. I highly recommend it!

The best book I've ever read!!!.......2005-11-06

What a compliment to such a great game. A great adventure story with or without playing the games. If you've never played the games - read Myst: The Book of Tiana, and then Myst: The Book of Atrus, play RealMyst, and then play Riven. I read the Myst books and play the games each fall. If you want a great adventure story that's hard to put down, get the Myst books. They're great!!!

Great for any reader!.......2007-04-09

I have read these books and played the games. These books are stand alone and are wonderful. They are some of my all time favorite books and have been reread many times. They are enthralling, entertaining and so well written. I own them all seperately, The Book of Ti'ana my favorite. I think combining them in one volume is great too. But I do suggest reading them in a different order than they were written. According to chronological storyline, The Book of Ti'ana comes first, then The Book of Atrus, then The Book of D'ni. But they're still easy to follow in any order. Great great books! Buy them!
Still hoping for The Book of Marrim!

A sensational book.......2007-02-21

This book is superb, a "must read" for anyone. On top of that the games are GREAT. This book may be invaluable in the sense that it will add the storyline of the games and vise versa. With "MYST Online:URU Live" released (Feb/2007) this will definitely give you a great experience while exploring D'ni (The Deep City) in-game.

I would rate this book along with the likes of "The Lord of The Rings", "The Chronicles of Narnia" and even "Harry Potter".

Thank you Rand Miller for creating a great fantasy world for me to escape to. I'm looking foward to the release of "The Book of Marrim".

Simply wonderful........2007-02-12

My first book of the trilogy was the second, then I searched for and found the third. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the first book for a very long time - "out of print," etc, etc. So I was overjoyed to find this edition recently. I admire the intricate setting of the world of D'ni, and simply love them all. They're a must-read that I return to every few months. I think they're just as wonderful as the games, wonderful in a unique way.

This is a must read for anyone who is serious about the game. Not only does it give a rich history of the D'ni but it gives an in depth understanding of the core of the game...... the linking books. For fans of fantasy/SF, the story plot is great and the pace keeps you reading with anticipation.

If you are not familiar with Freddy I suggest you read "Freddy the Detective" first to see how he became a detective.
Now this may very well be his greatest adventure for kids of all ages.
Once again Freddy is confronted with many overlapping mysteries. One of the Marinas (Two Clicks) is missing. And Freddy must use some of his best disguises in the investigation. As with Freddy stories there are many adult concepts that are brought up in the story and one must know where loyalty lies and be ware of deceit.
Now have fun and learn how the ABI (Animal Bureau of Investigation) helps solve the mysteries.

Surely the best Freddy the Pig book, Freddy and the Baseball Team from Mars is humorous and delightful. From the martians, to Simon and the rat gang, to Mr. Hercules, this book is a must-read, Freddy fan or not!

Impossible Cookbook.......2006-12-10

Mario Batali's cookbook is most disappointing. I looked it over carefully, and I found absolutely nothing of interest to me. His recipes are incredibly complicated, with ingredients available only in restaurants and the households of professional cooks, northern Italian ones at that. There had to be standby pestos, tapenades, sauces and vinaigrettes. Impossible, really. This is a most unattractive cook book. I won't even give it away.

One of my favorite cookbooks.......2006-04-12

Batali's "Simple Italian Food" is an excellent cookbook for people who actually like to cook, and for those who accept that Italian cooking covers a vast range of subjects and styles, far more than just pasta.

The title is apt: none of these dishes are overly complicated for anyone with a decently equipped kitchen and access to good, fresh ingredients. Unlike more complex styles, French cuisine for example, there is very little combining of several different cooking techniques to produce one recipe. At it's most complicated, the book calls for use of staple ingredients that can be prepared ahead of time, and which Batali also provides recipes for, with sauces for example.

One of the great pleasures of the book is discovering the unexpected tang and heartiness of his dishes. His pasta con vongole is a good example: the recipe calls for pancetta, and the result is a tangy clam sauce in a beautiful, brownish broth which is delicious and hearty without being overly rich. Comprate, cucinate e buon appetito!

Seems like many great recipes, but many ingredients that aren't found in the regular supermarket, especially if you live in a rural area like I do...so I haven't been able to try many of them.

Great recipes, awful binding.......2005-03-04

I've reviewed this cookbook before from the point of view of the contents, for which I gave it 5 stars. I use this cookbook all the time and absolutely love it. Unfortunately, I use this cookbook all the time and the cheap glued binding has not held up. About half the pages have detached and I'm a few chapters away from having to pull the whole thing apart and put it in a three-ring binder. Interestingly, the same publisher used a sewn binding for the Babbo Cookbook, so I guess the gourmet recipes get the quality treatment. I would still recommend purchasing the cookbook for the wonderful preparations, but shame on the publisher for using such poor components on a book designed to be repeatedly opened and laid flat.
