After a fight, some warriors seek to return home.
Others seek revenge.

Hidden from them both, the Magehound broods. She cannot forgive those who drove her from power, and she will stop at nothing to be avenged. Her bitterness ensures that Akhlaur's
Customer Reviews:
Great villians.......2003-08-07
There are absolutely no redeeming qualities to these villians. You'd love to kill them yourself. The narrow escapes, danger from 'friends', help from 'enemies', the blurring of always excepted right and wrong -- and tied all up with magic. What more could you ask for? A hero, a heroine, a mission with no clear direction and danger around every corner. Do what's right or do as you're told and preserve surface honor? What would you do?
Excellent Novel.......2003-06-16
Elaine did an excellent job with The Floodgate. The book is both captivating and entertaining. I recommend this novel along with the entire trilogy.
All is still not well in the Shining South..........2002-12-15
Having defeated the deadly Laraken, Jordaini counselor Matteo and his mischievous companion Tzigone get on with their lives... or so they would want to. Along with a memorable cast of companions, they will be thrust into a wickedly twisted plot that threatens to undo the might of magical Halruaa.
In this second of three novels of the Counselors and Kings series, author Elaine Cunningham maintains the quality of work she is well known for. As with most go-between novels in a trilogy, The Floodgate builds upon previous material and leads into a conclusion. As such, it is as fine a bridge as I've had the pleasure of reading. Halruaa is brought to life as never before, and despite the general lack of references to some more familiar Forgotten Realms characters (who are largely dismissed as 'barbaric northerners') you won't be missing any bit of the excitement or action that the Realms are known for.
The author, as is expected, answers some questions and leaves others for later. There is a tense sort of foreboding behind the swordplay and spell battles, impressive though they might be. One cannot help but wonder where this is all leading. Rest assured that all will be answered by the end of the series. Do read The Floodgate on the way, however, for this trilogy is best taken in whole.
Actually I give it 3.5 stars.......2001-08-25
For a middle book it is good. I did not care for this book quite as much as "The Magehound", but still I enjoyed it. In this book the author evolves the characters well. We learn the fates of the characters after the battle in the swamp. This is a great book within an excellent trilogy. "Counselors & Kings" will end up being one of the more popular FR sets in recent years.
Like the swift flow of water in a river.......2001-08-16
The multicultured variety in the Forgotten Realms settings never seems to end.
In the second volume of the "Counselors and Kings" series, the story of the young jordain, Matteo, continues. It continues with advancing the history of the land of Halruua.
The book is not astounding or anything, but you could say that Elaine Cunningham certainly knows how to capture the reader's dedicated attention. I just can't wait to read the third volume.
Don't get me wrong, people. It's a great book. Worth reading and buying.
Enjoy!

The Knot Ultimate Wedding Planner: Worksheets, Checklists, Etiquette, Calendars, and Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
ASIN: 0811825523 |
Book Description
Your Wedding Organizer is a one-stop resource for brides (and grooms) to be. This three-in-one portfolio takes the trial out of planning a wedding and puts the triumph back in. Your Wedding Organizer is just that: an organizer that can be folded up and toted around in a purse or briefcase. It includes three sections: a timeline, a planner, and a project book, all easily removed to be consulted singly or stowed in the organizer. The foldaway timeline provides an at-a-glance reference and wedding day countdown to keep the busy bride on track. With space to jot down notes and ideas and over 50 check boxes of what to do next, she won't forget a thing. The planner is a comprehensive guide to anything and everything wedding-related. From choosing the appropriate stationery to tossing the bouquet to planning accommodations for out-of-town guests, this book covers it all. The project portfolio offers suggestions on giving the wedding a more personal touch, including creative ideas for everything from cakes to attendants' gifts, with clearly written instructions and step-by-step photographs. Concise and easy to read, the project portfolio will help keep things simple and in focus. Your Wedding Organizer is the only book any future bride will need to plan and pull off a truly perfect wedding.
Customer Reviews:
Not worth it.......2001-01-11
This planner includes a timeline and checklist that could just have easily been ripped from the pages of any bride's magazine or printed (for free) from an online source. The arts and crafts booklet was a complete waste for anybody planning a wedding. It was a bit too country-crafts for a formal event. The booklet where you keep dress measurements and ordering information was helpful but definately not worth the price of the book. After all, it is the only section, out of three, that you will use at all.
Too flimsy and not very useful.......2000-06-14
Before you buy this planner on line, go to a local book store and take a look at it. It's hard to visualize exactly how this is put together without looking at it. This might work for some people, but what I've noticed thus far is that it's very flashy looking but lacks substance. It comes packaged together, but is actually three distinct and separate parts. First, there is a "timeline" section, which is a folds up like a map and looks like it will fall apart as you go. It lists tasks and when they are supposed to be done on a months & weeks before wedding date basis. I think as you're using this, if you actually fold and unfold it frequently, it will completely disintegrate. If you put it up on the wall somewhere, then it might be okay. However, the whole idea behind this planner is it's portability and that takes some of the portability away. The second section is the "planner", which contains forms for dress shops, florists, caterers, etc. However, there is only one form for each one of those items. I'm not sure what the author expects you to do - photo copy them and use photocopies as you interview vendors? This kind of ruins the portability factor of the planner in my opinion. Yes, it's neat, compact, and fits in a small purse, but if you want to really use this planner, you'll be carrying along a binder or two filled with photocopies of forms. The final section, which is totally glossed over in the book descriptions listed here, is the least useful of all, the "projects" section. I was looking for a planner here, not a small book of arts and crafts projects that I could do. It's got some so-so looking projects for favors, veils, and cakes, but in this small book, there's no way that they could provide an adequate do-it-yourself project section. It just doesn't cut it and there are many other books of projects out there that would be superior. This planner might be good for some people, but I really didn't find it to be as useful as expected. I strongly recommend evaluating this one in person at a regular bookstore before buying it here. Don't waste your time on it unless you are sure it will fit your needs.

Theodore Sturgeon is the father of literary SF, his profound influence apparent in the works of such wildly different authors as Samuel R. Delany, Harlan Ellison, and Nancy Kress. His fiction--concerned with alienation, union, repression, self-discovery, and the healing powers of love and tolerance--foreshadowed the humanist, sexual, and transcendental revolutions of the 1960s. He was honored with the Hugo, Nebula, and International Fantasy Awards and the World Fantasy Lifetime Achievement Award. To Marry Medusa (1958) may be Theodore Sturgeon's best novel.
Dan Gurlick was a drunken bully--until he became infected with an alien spore. Now Gurlick is part of the Medusa, a galaxy-spanning hive mind comprising a billion life forms--a near-omnipotent intelligence horrified by humanity, and determined to destroy the unsuspecting human race in order to save it. To Marry Medusa is vintage Sturgeon, a treat for fans and newcomers alike. --Cynthia Ward
Customer Reviews:
Cosmic Author Rip-Off.......2007-09-28
Readers of "To Marry Medusa" (or "The Cosmic Rape" in its longer version) may be interested to learn that in chapter 63 of Kurt Vonnegut's last novel, "Timequake" (1997) a speech given to the character Kilgore Trout (Vonnegut's parody version of Theodore Sturgeon) was clearly borrowed from Chapter 29 of "To Marry Medusa" - a meditation on how the human eye and mind can travel from star to star faster than light.
An odd, elegiac Alien Invasion story.......2002-07-25
I read this book under its sensational alternate title, "The Cosmic Rape."
"Medusa," a galaxy-spanning hive mind, seeks to extend its realm by seeding space with spores in the hopes that some will land on inhabited worlds. Containing a bit of "connected" living tissue, consumption of a spore by a local life form would intantly convert the planet's population to Medusa's way of thinking.
When a spore falling to Earth is consumed by a alienated, raging derelict, he alone is converted. The book follows his/its efforts to find out why humanity is resistant to Medusa's sway.
Meanwhile, we peek into the lives of others, leading typical human (and therefore, for many, unhappy) lives, who will soon play a part in a remarkable drama.
_To Marry Medusa_ is a sort of defiant, humanist reply to Arthur C. Clarke's _Childhood's End_. A sad and wonderful story.
Worthy of shameless homage.......2002-01-19
This book is amazing, comparable to great science fiction works like the Hyperion and Dune series, and yet it captures their scope and literary beauty in a fraction of the pages. In only a few hundred pages an epic tale of conquest, brief (oh so brief) insurrection, and triumph unfolds. Sturgeon is one of those precious few science fiction writers that elevates the genre above the social stigma hoisted upon it, and he does it with style. This work is not just good science fiction, its great fiction period. His writing style is fluent and dignified. To Marry Medusa is science fiction condensed into its purest, most moving form, and trust me, I know my science fiction. Please, please pick up this book and give it a chance. If you like LeGuin, Blish, Bester or any of the founders of science fiction, you will love this book.
Failed Experimentation.......2001-03-29
While it's always good to see authors push the limits of fiction, sometimes exceeding the limits can be trying. Sturgeon's novella, while grounded in interesting concepts and ideas, is hard to follow. Just as a reader becomes interested in a certain character, Sturgeon jumps to something completely new. At times, some of the characters's thoughts are presented in a repeating stream of thought that's completely cumbersome. Recommended with reservation.
Great read!.......2000-04-12
If you're already a fan of Theodore Sturgeon, you need no coaxing from me buy this book. If you haven't read Sturgeon before, don't hesitate. He's one of the finest writers around and this book is a great introduction to his work.
Customer Reviews:
Utopia science fiction made special by Sturgeon.......2000-06-24
The Cosmic Rape ("To Marry Medusa" is the short story from which it was expanded) tells the story of a wandering space conquerer who is shocked to discover that humans, unlike any other race it had ever known, did not have a group mind. Convinced that this is how it's meant to be, Medusa enlists the help of a born loser to put all the brainwaves back together again.
The Cosmic Rape is one of these utopia vision sci-fi novels that seemed to populate the late 50s/early 60s. Sturgeon is a fine writer, and his recognizable style makes it immediately much more than the sum of its parts. The characters are grubbily and wonderfully real, even if the plot can't always say the same for itself.
Recommended for fans of science fiction writing of the period, and for fans of Sturgeon.

In Tapas, a collection of 100-plus recipes for Spain's savory small dishes, chef José Andrés writes of journeying during his military service to Cádiz, in southern Spain, where he was "able to see the wonders of frying first hand." The passion that would lead an on-leave soldier to investigate a cooking technique infuses the book, which is something new under the sun. In chapters based on characteristic ingredients, such as fish, rice, and eggs, readers are introduced to authentic yet reproducible tapas of great and flavorful immediacy; these simple dishes, which include the likes of Tomato Toast with Spanish Ham, Pan-Fried Angel Hair Pasta with Shrimp, Slow-Roasted Beef Tenderloin with Cabrales Cheese, and Spring Leeks with Mushrooms, are instantly inviting. They'll also fit into a wide range of menu slots, as hors d'oeuvres, brunch and supper fare, or as side dishes. In well-written notes, Andrés provides context and something more--a sense of a living culinary tradition, which he loves, deftly presented to best advantage. Writing, for example, of the poor quality of most stuffed olives, a favorite tapa, he exhorts readers to make their own. "Simple ingredients prepared in a simple way--that's the best way to take your everyday cooking to a higher level," he says. Amen, and an invitation to cook--and understand--wonderful food. --Arthur Boehm
Book Description
The first major Spanish cookbook in two decades, from José Andrés, recently named America’s Chef of the Year by Bon Appétit.
Tapas are Spain's gift to the world of great cooking: a fresh and fun way to eat with friends and family—and easy to make at home. Using simple Mediterranean ingredients, a tapas feast is a perfect combination of little dishes packed with big flavors. Tapas by José Andrés is the first major book in a generation to celebrate this world-renowned way of eating, from a man who is the best possible authority: an award-winning Spanish chef in America, with seven highly acclaimed restaurants to his name. Recently named Bon Appétit's Chef of the Year, José is a new star in American cooking, as well as the nation's leading expert on Spanish cuisine. Having worked as a chef in the United States for two decades, he's also a thoroughly American cook who draws on American ingredients for his inspiration, and is a master at translating his native Spanish cooking for this country's kitchens. His simple and delicious recipes include:
• Fish such as American Red Snapper Baked in Salt; Monkfish with Romesco Sauce; and Basque-Style Stuffed Maryland Blue Crabs
• Chicken including Catalan-Style Chicken Stew; Chicken Sautéed with Garlic; and Chicken with Lobster
• Pork such as Chorizo Stewed in Hard Cider; Figs with Spanish Ham; and Roasted Pork Tenderloin with Apples
• Rice dishes including Lobster Paella; Black Rice with Squid and Shrimp; and Traditional Rice with Clams
All these recipes are full of tremendous flavor and creativity, as well as in-depth ingredient notes and a rich atmosphere that will transport you to the lush countryside, hip cafés, and sun-drenched coasts of Spain—and back again to dinner at home.
This is a breakthrough cookbook from an extraordinary chef.

Tapas:.......2007-09-16
When we traveled in Spain we discovered many different Tappas that everyone liked! I felt that these recipes required ingredients that we cannot buy in Indiana. Big cities on each coast might have squid and octapus ready to go but we do not. Not very many recipes appealed to us. Thank you. C.S.
Great source for tapas recipes for your next tapas party.......2007-07-04
José Andrés is a wonderful chef and teacher in this book devoted to the tapas of Spain. His recipes range from simple to fairly complicated but the flavors are amazing. His recipes are easy to understand and follow. The hardest part may be in finding some ingredients in local markets, but there are many recipes with items commonly found in your local grocery store. The book is nicely illustrated with pictures that make one hungry and ready to cook.
A wonderful book.......2007-04-16
I've always liked tapas, but I never knew much about their history and preparation until I came across this book. I have to admit that I've never read a book about food cover-to-cover, but this one was written so beautifully that I was just captivated.
ESPERABA MAS DEL LIBRO, IT'S OK BUT..........2007-03-18
I REALLY WANTED TO RECEIVE A MORE TRADITIONAL CONTENT ABOUT TAPAS, THERE'S A GOOD CONTENT BUT POOR ABOUT TRADITIONAL TAPAS FROM SPAIN, IT'S MORE LIKE A "FUSION CUISINE". THE PICTURES AND MATERIAL OF THE BOOK IS A VERY GOOD QUALITY.
los fogones de jose andres.......2007-02-05
A beautiful, passionate cookbook. My parents (who are my culinary and literary superiors) visit his one restaurant frequently when in DC and have met him a handful of times. The last such time they brought back a signed copy for me and I absolutely love it. The recipes are fantastic, but I will not pretend that they are simple. I love the fried eggs with potatoes and chorizo. I definitely need to get to his restaurant!
