Customer Reviews:
ghatti tales concluded........2006-07-04
Much better than the previous book, almost as good as the original three in the collection. A 'box-of-tissues' ending. A definite must for any ghatti fan.
An Excellent Cat Fantasy.......2002-04-02
Let's face it, good (fantasy) books about cats are few and very far between. The series (The Ghatti's Tale / Ghatten's Gambit) is a sure winner. The "characters" are charming and well developed with interesting and involved story lines. As an adult I can appreciate the autor's style, but I feel the books will appeal to a younger audience as well. When reading these books you can't help wishing you had one of these cats. I would say they are on a par with Tad Williams, Gabriel King, Diane Duane, etc. I am anxiously awaiting the latest book in the series.
Good but not her best.......2001-04-12
I liked this book, but the ending just felt very rushed. Doyce, Khar, Rawn, and hubby seemed just thrown in with no real point. I think the idea of moving to new characters and evolving the world in time a bit was excellent and most of the story went along well, except the cameos by Doyce and crew. Better to have focused on the twins and the Edwin plot lines. The ending was just unsatisfactory. Loose ends were tied up that could have been left for a later book, later plots, but instead got thrown in without hardly any supporting story line.
Book is lacking........2001-03-18
I have read the previous four books in the series. Greeno is a long winded author with scattered plots. The plot in this fifth book no long was realistic nor well planned. It seemed to me that the author was merely trying to write another book in the series instead of having planned anything. In fact, I was not able to finish the book. I will not spend any more time or money on a Gayle Greeno book.
Great read but not sure I liked ending.......2000-08-14
Again Ms. Greeno had produced a wonderful story. I'm not sure the ending is what I wanted. It leaves no one happy-kind of in limbo. I can overlook this though. I will look forward to another book in this series.

Customer Reviews:
What Was Arthur Smoking?.......2004-12-18
I was very disappointed with this book. It has touches of Arthur C. Clarke brilliance. An interesting well written beginning frames a story with lots of potential. But somewhere in the middle of the story Clarke just loses it. Even Clarke's wonderful writing style and delivery cannot overcome the silliness of the plot.
The intelligent blob that lives in a puddle of water on a waterless desert earth for a billion years was my favorite silly character. The main character is a human that after a billion years has evolved to have no hair, fingernails or teeth. He still enjoys munching away on all sorts of food. He must have strong gums. There are the space ships and subway systems that after a billion years are still functional. (A billion years. Not a few thousand or a few million.) Once interesting characters hurtle off to the center of the Galaxy, the blob's robot does the driving, and within a few hours visit a half dozen planets, find space ship eating plants, alien artifacts, and then of course...the ultimately intelligent being in the universe..."Mr. Mind". This is the guy with no body or form, just mind. He hitches a ride back from the center of the galaxy to earth... it's all too much.
Clarke must have been smoking something strong when he wrote this. I've read other Clarke books and loved them. This one was a real disappointment. The story just runs away and becomes silly. If you are a Clarke junky I'm sure you'll disagree with me. If you aren't and want to read Clarke for the first time I suggest not reading this. Try a classic like "Childhood's End". Clarke obviously was thinking much more clearly when he wrote that...
Classic early Clarke.......2004-09-06
The City in the Stars is Clarke playing around with the potential of information technology to change society. It's one of his better novels, with some of his favorite themes about galactic exploration.
The Sands of Mars is rather dated. If you can get past the fact that there isn't actualy any vegetation, let alone animal life, and there are in fact mountains on Mars, you come out with a rather good novel, with better character work than usual, and interesting (if wrong) science.
Two Classics.......2002-09-10
Two great classics in one book. The City In the Stars is one of the most entertaining sci fi books I have ever read. Clarke challenges your imagination through every step of this one. If there was a movie for every persons vision of this book, not a single one wold be the same. Clarke describes the unimaginable with such simplicity, yet you capture exactly what he is describing. A timeless classic!
Sands of Mars is also very entertaining and is also a must read for any Clarke fan. Although there are many ideas that are false in this book (since we have now seen the surface of Mars) it is interesting to see what Clarke envisioned on this planet. There are great ideas in this novel.
The City and the Stars for Ever.......2002-01-06
I read The City and the Stars for the first time in High School in probably 1969 or 1970. It was by far the most profound novel I had ever read. All I could remember was being so upset when it was over. I wanted more. It is that kind of story. You step into another world and you are really there. This book is the one that converted me to Science fiction. I bought the book again in the early 1990's. It was a revised edition and somethings were different. But it was still very good. (I liked the original the best). Arthur C. Clarke is much greater than 2001. This book shows it. Thanks Arthur!
Hard SciFi at its original best!.......2001-12-21
This newly released omnibus contains two full-length novels that have become so ubiquitous as to be part of our psyche.
The City and The Stars made such an impression on me that I can remember exactly where I was when I read it for the very first time - seventh grade in Bright, California at one of the meanest junior highs I ever did attend. It was an escape, it was fantastical without being fantasy. It was hard science fiction, set in the future. At that age, I couldn't comprehend how far in the future but I knew it was a place I would have liked to see, doing things that Alvin did. Living that Grand Adventure with him!
I would encourage anyone who hasn't read an early Arthur C. Clarke or knows of any young science fiction fans to buy this omnibus & introduce them to the universe of Arthur C. Clarke. He did write more than 2001: A Space Odyssey - you know!

Customer Reviews:
Humor works...imagine that!.......2003-12-13
This book is an absolutely wonderful resource for teachers who feel they might be at the end of their chain or are simply looking for a way of revitalizing their classroom. The ideas are hysterical, practical, and easy to implement in most cases. Just reading the book can make you laugh and get you ready to brighten up your classroom with laughter. We all deserve a little laughter in our day, students and teachers alike - this book is highly recommended! :)
Excellent teacher resource!.......2000-04-20
"If they're Laughing..." was a great read for two main reasons. Firstly, in today's classrooms sometimes there is not a lot to laugh about. This book allows the teacher to find ways to laugh with the students everyday. I believe that students that laugh and enjoy school will work hard to get to school everyday. Secondly, even if you don't use these ideas in class, there are lots of funny stories and anecdotes. I was chuckling to myself as I was reading and relaxing (this is definitely not a typical textbook / teacher guide read). If you are looking to add some fun and humour to your classroom, "If They're Laughing..." is a MUST! END
Book Description
According to bestselling marketing expert Sergio Zyman, many companies rely too heavily on innovation to solve their problems. Whenever a brand or business gets old and tired, the impulse is to scrap it and start over with something fresh. It sounds great, but more often than not, innovation simply doesn't work. Zyman knows this firsthand he was the chief marketing officer at Coca-Cola during the disastrous launch of New Coke.
So what's the alternative? Zyman now preaches the power of renovation, not innovation. Recapture the essence of your existing brands, products, and core competencies, and do more of the things that made you great in the first place. For instance, Coca- Cola's essence was about authenticity, continuity, and stability, and New Coke undermined all three qualities. It seems obvious in retrospect, yet too many managers are so impressed by innovation that they approve ideas no one will buy, such as premoistened toilet paper or smokeless cigarettes.
With Renovate Before You Innovate, Zyman explains the tools managers need to revitalize their marketing strategies and improve their growth rates. This book will challenge the conventional business wisdom and help companies make smarter decisions.
Customer Reviews:
Growing a Business the Right Way.......2004-10-22
Fascinating approach that skewers the notion that innovation is the savior of business growth. Sergio Zyman provides examples galore showing how innovation has derailed many a company from its true course.
His notion of leveraging the essence of a business to do more of the things that made it great in the first place is very powerful, and it really leaves you scratching your head at how some companies can still focus on continually seeking out the new thing rather than the RIGHT thing for their business.
Excellent anecdotes and many solid approaches to relooking at a business in order to uncover growth opportunities that make sense.
Customer Reviews:
from Iowa.......2004-06-21
This is an awesome book. I was introduced to Alan Watts' work about a year ago and I have throughly enjoyed his exploration of the eastern and western religious ideas. I was born and raised in both the Hindu and Christian triditions, and it was difficult for me to compare the two religions until Alan Watts came along.
The Christianity Trap.......2000-04-21
Alan Watts lectured to live audiences during the 1960's and1970's. His talks reveal his view of Christianity and religion andleaves the listener with a keen sense that "I too, am a son of God". With this insight the listener is set free to experience life in its fullest. Alan Watts masterful description of Christianity through a Buddhist point of view is truely illuminating.

Customer Reviews:
Anticipating the movie Troy.......2004-05-22
Yep it is time for me to be exposed to culture so I thought I would go see a classic (Troy "Brad Pitt".) but first I need o know a little about the story and the Author. So I turned to my trusty reference, "The Classics Reclassified" by Richard Armour.
My copy must have been written about the time of Homer as it has no ISBN number.
This volume helps one understand the classics in a way they can be appreciated. It is refreshing to read a book by someone that had made the learning experience so palatable. (No I did not eat the book.)
Richard Armour starts out with a succinct and to the point biography of the classic writer. He makes clear what other books only imply. After this he follows up with the classic it's self.
The contents:
Homer
The Iliad "From the original Greek, Whoever he was"
William Shakespeare
Julius Caesar "et tu, William"
Sir Walter Scott
Ivanhoe "upright knights, tilting and toppling"
Nathaniel Hawthorne
The Scarlet Letter "an A for effort"
Herman Melville
Moby Dick "strong men cry and whales blubber"
George Eliot
Silas Marner "a moral with a tale"
Charles Dickens
David Copperfield "or up from poverty"
The book also contains sketches at relevant or irreverent intervals.
Very funny & actually educational!.......2002-08-21
I first read Richard Armour when I was about 12, and I have to say that even the bits I didn't understand were funny enough to make me want to! As a result I began reading many classics just so I could get the joke. I would love to see these books reprinted.
A great followup to Twisted Tales from Shakespeare.......2001-01-29
This is a wonderful volume of literary humor that really should be back in print. Going through famous fictional works (including yet another Shakespeare), Armour goes through the work of fiction and, taking things to an illogical extreme, presents a very funny take on these classics. This book is hilarious, particularly, of course, if you've read the original work in question.
its the classics made humourous.......1998-09-06
the author has selected certain famous classics. He writes a short biography about each author and thereafter reclassifies the classics. It is a very humourous book
Book Description
Whether you are the sole proprietor of a small professional services firm or a business development manager with a corporate giant, the chances are good that lead generation is at the top of your list of marketing priorities. For most businesses, getting new business is challenging and, executed poorly, can consume time and financial resources far more quickly than sales are able to sustain. And it seems to get tougher with every passing year. Competition increases. Choices proliferate. Buyers are savvier, and they have access to more information than ever before. This handbook contains ideas you can explore as you look for ways to improve the lead generation process for your organization. The list is not comprehensive, and not all of the ideas described here are suitable for every type of business. It is merely intended as a guide to help you start thinking about new things to try and what might work in your particular situation.
Book Description
The story of everywoman's emotional and spiritual journey, helping her release stored up false hopes and preconceived notions by replacing them with the wonderful reality God is weaving into her life.
Every morning we face the day with a set of expectations about how things will or should be. Author Paula Rinehart says, "The oddest part about our mental images is that we don't know they are there until the video of our lives plays out in a different fashion." Offering a radical shift in perspective, Paula guides readers to a fresh discovery that the story of our lives may look vastly different than what we anticipated-but that it's a good thing.
Better Than My Dreams charts a course that enables a woman to jettison her old baggage and to discover that what God is creating might be better than she ever dreamed for herself, where fellowship with Christ, rather than fulfillment of dreams, is the real prize. This deeper awareness, that God knows what He's doing with our lives, allows us to truly let go and enjoy the trip as we learn to live, love, and embrace whatever comes.
Better Than My Dreams helps women:
- face their fear of disappointment
- deal with life's disturbing interruptions
- own their own stuff
- find the freedom to love difficult people
