Customer Reviews:
Ravishing Read.......2006-07-27
It was a great story with well developed and realistic characters. I'd read it again in a heartbeat and was sad when it came to a close. I can't wait to read Nikki Woods' next published work.
What's A Girl To Do?.......2006-05-14
Easier Said Than Done by Nikki Woods is an engaging and thought provoking read. Woods' debut novel deals with themes that resonate with many women-family, friendship, careers and relationships with the opposite sex. Main character, Kingston Phillips is attractive, intelligent, college educated and a white collar professional. She is excited about life as she lives in her dream city (Chicago) and has a job she loves. She has managed to earn a coveted position as a senior executive with an up and coming new record label-and achieved this challenge before the young age of 30. She is on the rise and one of the top 30 under 30 to watch.
Kingston is basking in the glow of signing an emerging, popular hip hop artist to her label; however, she soon realizes that she cannot rest on her laurels for long. She is swiftly given a drop kick when she receives a phone call informing her that her maternal grandmother has died. Shocked, unprepared and a little frazzled Kingston must quickly leave for her native homeland, Jamaica, to finalize the funeral and burial arrangements.
Returning to Jamaica brings her face to face with haunting issues from her past-demise of a childhood friend two decades ago, estranged college boyfriend, dysfunctional family members and a few surprises. Her grandmother has not only made her the executor of her estate but there is a condition-Kingston must relocate to Jamaica. With little time on her side, Kingston decides to return to the US to mull over the decision and to lean on her two best friends for support. Unbeknownst to her, chaos is brewing on the home front and she quickly finds herself entangled in a web of secrets, deceit, betrayal and abandonment.
What's a girl to do? Woods does a wonderful job of presenting a three dimensional character with Kingston. We experience a gamut of emotions-laughter, tears, joy, happiness, rejection, anger, frustration and disappointment-as we watch Kingston deal with everyday, real life situations. Kingston's character showed balance as we witnessed encounters with family, girlfriends, significant others and coworkers. Overall, I enjoyed the story but at times the pacing was awkward and the ending was rushed. I found one particular sub-plot unrealistic and a tad annoying as I was led to believe that Kingston was an empowered young lady who more often than not thought with her head rather than her emotions. But, as in real life, everyone is entitled to a few mistakes, so I quickly forgave and continued reading to see how the situation would be resolved.
First writer's jitters aside, I believe that Woods has a promising career and I look forward to future releases from this talented author. APOOO rating: 3.5 stars

Fantastic, Entertaining and Thought-Provoking.......2006-04-03
"Easier Said Than Done" is a fantastic, entertaining, and thought-provoking debut novel, written by Nikki Woods that without a doubt kept my attention from the first page until the last. Her characterization and her vibrant descriptions are top notch. I thoroughly enjoyed following the journey of its protagonist, Kingston Phillips, as well as the other characters within the book. And, having the plot in Jamaica was the icing on the cake. Woods is a very talented writer and I highly recommend this book. I look forward to reading other books written by Woods in the near future.

Not Happy -Very slow read.......2006-02-28
This book was bought by accident and boy I'm regretting it and regretting that I even picked it up and read a single page. I was not happy with this book at all it was a very, very slow read. It took me 3 weeks to read the book when I normally can read a good book within a day or two. I only torched myself because I believe in finishing something that I start. Had I known I would have sent the book right back for a refund. I didn't realize who Nikki Woods was until I finished the book and was I surprise to find out that she is the one putting crappy reading material out like this.
There was the physical point, there was no meaning the end delivered no answers? If this took her 4 years to write I hate to even imagine what her 6 months worth of work will produce. Stay in radio and leave the writing to someone else.

Neat one!.......2000-01-05
I expected to have seen most of the problems since I trained under Panja 4 years back but was pleasantly surprized to see quite a few new themes. Defintely worth buying even for all levels.
I am now waiting for the DemiComa system to become publicly available.
This book showcases good technique in novel settings.......1999-06-21
"Easier Done than Said" will be enjoyed by bridge players of all standards. The bridge technique highlighted is not new, but Dr. Paranjape has a discerning eye for novel settings and the teacher's skill for taking the mystery out of complex ideas and making them comprehensible to the layman. The expert bridge player will enjoy the unusual setting of the hands; the advancing player will learn from the clear exposition of expert technique.
Excellent and a "MUST READ" new book for Bridge lovers........1999-05-20
"Easier Done than Said - Brilliancy at the Bridge Table" by Prakash Paranjape is a beautiful book to read. It is a great book for bridge players at all levels. I have never been (acknowledged as) a Bridge Expert. It is said that one cannot know how a millionaire thinks (especially when it comes to spending) unless one is a millionaire. I may never know what experts think about this book. But I know that some so called experts were scared to read Hugh Kelsey's book "Adventures in cardplay" when it was published, thinking that it may confuse their thinking process and they may actually do worse in the Bridge tournaments if they read it. Well, no one needs to be scared of Paranjape's book in that way. It is a great book because it is easy to read and easy to understand. It has been known that Paranjape has a fine eye for instructive deals. What I think is, any deal that Paranjape sees, he will find an interesting point or two from it. What he and the editor Ray Lee have done extremely well in this book is that they have selected the deals wherein not only a great analysis has been presented, but it can be understood easily. There are no cliches used and a reader does not have to be a great statistician to understand the concepts presented. And still readers can learn a lot from the book and play better. Paranjape has described some great plays that are brilliant and elegant at the same time. Logic of each situation has been presented so beautifully, that a reader is enthralled by the simplicity. My hats off to the author, editor and Chuck Messinger, who has done the additional analysis for the deals in the book. I would give "TWO THUMBS UP" to Paranjape's book and recommend strongly for your reading pleasure. It is pleasing, entertaining and instructional for any Bridge enthusiast.

Interesting and Useful reading for Players of all levels.......1999-05-10
This book is refreshingly different from the normal bridge book the reader comes across. For one, it talks about the bridge scenario in India, which has never been captured before. The problems discussed are interesting and the analysis is thorough. Players of all levels should find this a useful reading material.

a guide for making life work.......2000-12-15
Joanne Papper is a first rate storyteller. In her first endeavor, Easier Said Than Done, she relates with pure emotional honesty how challenges in her own life were met and overcome with life-affirming grace and dignity. No one ever said that life is easy. A reading of Ms. Papper's account confirms life's heartache, unpredictability, and ultimately: joy. An affirmation to the human spirit which recognizes, deep within, that all is well...and that faith can always triumph over fear. Written in a voice that is clear, understandable and empathic. Highly recommended and sure to bring hope and comfort. Well-worth reading...& re- reading.
Excellent insight to realtionships and loss.......1999-07-28
Joanne Papper's book, "Easier Said Than Done" offers guidance and answers in dealing with many of life's problems. The book has a "Chicken Soup" flavor, so to speak, but with a refreshing, focused point of view. I highly reccommend this book to everyone. It would be a great gift for anyone dealing with personal loss or relationship problems.

As a long-buried episode from Bruce Banner's youth begins to surface with possible ramifications for the future, the Hulk finds himself washed up on a strange island, populated by several hapless victims...and some most unexpected monsters. Collects Incredible Hulk #77-82.
Customer Reviews:
good hulk book..........2007-01-24
peter came back to hulk, then left just as fast. it's too bad, as other than stan lee and jack kirby he's been the best writer/plotter in the hulk's history. tempest fugit is a nice book, and the dear tricia story is a cool addition at the end.
The return of Peter David.......2005-09-08
When Peter David's unheralded run on the Incredible Hulk came to an end in 1998 due to creative differences, a variety of writers put their own spins on Marvel's jade giant. Paul Jenkins and more recently Bruce Jones weaved some great Hulk stories, but now Peter David, arguably the best Hulk writer ever, is back, for better or worse. As Tempest Fugit begins, Bruce Banner and his raging alter-ego find themselves washed ashore on a mysterious island full of monsters and even stranger people. In between the unfolding events, we are given glimpses into Bruce's past, and one of the first manifestations of his Hulk "personality". Sadly, David's storytelling just seems like a re-hash of past ideas, and it's nothing special in the least. Familiar faces are abound, from General Ross, to Doc Samson, and even to Fin Fang Foom, with little results. The art by Lee Weeks and Tom Palmer is solid enough, giving the green goliath his classic look with some grit thrown in for good measure. The last issue collected here is worth noting however; "Dear Tricia", featuring art by Hulk/Thing: Hard Knocks, Inhumans, Fantastic Four 1234, and Sentry artist Jae Lee, is surprisingly touching, and far better than the Tempest Fugit arc. All in all, Tempest Fugit is fun for the most part, but hopefully David has more tricks up his sleave.
He's BACK...... and better than ever!.......2005-08-21
In 1998, creative differences between Marvel Comics and long-time Incredible Hulk writer Peter David led to the latter's all-too premature departure from the book's creative helm. Now, after seven years, Peter David finally returns to the character he redefined for a new generation of Hulk fans to tell a tale of action/adventure, intrigue, and revelations.
Trapped on a Mysterious Island populated by strange monsters (and even stranger people), the Hulk and his human half, Bruce Banner, must put aside their differences and join forces to piece together what is going on--and find a way to escape from it. Meanwhile, flashbacks to Banner's high school years unveil a dark secret.... as well as the beginnings of his "relationship" with his emerald alter-ego.
Peter David's storytelling is in fine form once again. He proves that, even after twelve years of exploration, the Hulk is far from being "tapped out"; there is still plenty of life left in this iconic character. Lee Weeks' art is, to coin a phrase, incredible. From the ethereal quality of the flashbacks to the exhilarating monster scenes to the awesome rendition of the Hulk himself, Weeks' jaw-dropping depictions have earned him a place among the ranks of Hulk legends like Sal Buscema, Todd McFarlane, and Dale Keown.
Also including the stand-alone story "Dear Tricia...", featuring art by Jae Lee (Hulk/Thing: Hard Knocks), Tempest Fugit has something in it to please just about every Hulk fan, old and new. Welcome back, Peter David!

Intriguing insights.......2005-10-06
Richelieu's "Testament Politique" is a fascinating insight into the thoughts and political ideals of this great statesman. The chapters and extracts in this edition are particularly interesting for his views on the conduct of the King, the requirements of royal councillors and the arrangements of the royal household. It should be borne in mind that Richelieu wrote the book over the course of years, and that it does not always reflect reality (for example, his famous three-point promise to the King was not as neat, or as neatly achieved, as was long assumed). However it is still an invaluable insight into the Cardinal's political thinking. It also contains some rather amusing and surely unintended revelations - in the chapter where Richelieu pleads for the King to reform his (very sloppy) household, one can almost feel the frustration seeping off the page - Richelieu was fighting a losing battle against Louis's lifelong personal habits here, and must have known it. The writing is pithy (reflecting, as the Cardinal says himself, his own style and the preferences of his intended audience - ie. the King) and the translation is clear and concise. This is an essential read for anyone studying the reign of Louis XIII.
Good insight into the world of Louis XIV.......1999-09-02
Cardinal Richelieu's instructions for a king were very informative while learning about the era of Louis XIV. The first half of the book is interesting and at times humerous to read what he believed about people. However the second half slows down considerably and brings down the book. It was assigned to me or I would have probbably never read it, not having much interest in France in general but it wasn't a bad read.
