Book Description
Day after day she works a conveyor belt in a New Jersey toy factory, assembling baby dolls and watching them roll awayto be packaged and delivered into the loving arms of their new owners. And every night before she falls asleep Graciela prays for the same deliveranceto find the loving arms of a man who can help her forget the sins of her past and the haunting memory of her homeland. But how can she forget when she lives among the ghosts of that little Cuban town? With Caridad and Imperiotwo women Graciela has known since girlhoodby her side in the factory, it seems shell never be free of her past, never able to pursue the chance at true love that she finds quite unexpectedly in the cold, New Jersey winter. Written with buoyant humor and a sharp sense of human desire, TOMORROW THEY WILL KISS is a story of love pursued at any cost, of how friendship and history unite us for better or worse, and of the hope for that redemptive kiss capable of reconciling estranged lovers and countries.

A MUST-READ!! .......2007-01-18
Santiago takes you back to 1960's Union City and Cuba via the lives pre and post Castro of three strong women, each with her own perception of life, love and war. I began reading the novel on a plane and devoured it in one sitting - I strongly recommend it!
A very entertaining book........2007-01-12
It is hard to imagine that this book was written by a man. I really got some good laughs reading some passages in this book; but it also deals with some not so funny issues of people following a path of not of their choosing and forced to make difficult decisions. I really enjoyed reading this book. I would strongly recommend it!
You will love Eduardo Santiago's TOMORROW THEY WILL KISS !.......2006-12-26
EDUARDO SANTIAGO, in my opinion, eventually will win the Pulitzer Prize for distinguished fiction by an American author, and he may be the next writer of Cuban descent to do so. TOMORROW THEY WILL KISS is right up there with other Pulitzer Prize winners. Santiago is young, and he has talent and dedication. And so it is, I believe, a matter of time.
Graciela, Caridad and Imperio--Cuban women in exile--work in a doll factory in New Jersey. Santiago segues back to Cuba throughout the novel, so we can see the life they left during the Cuban Revolution and understand what they're up against in the U.S. Graciela deals with her frustrations just like American women do--by losing herself in TV soap operas.
Conjure up for me the older American who has never escaped into radio soaps, including the one that asked the question, "Can this girl from the little mining town in the West find happiness as the wife of a wealthy and titled Englishman?" (OUR GAL SUNDAY in the 1940s.) Find me the younger American who has never lost herself in THE GUIDING LIGHT, ALL MY CHILDREN, or DALLAS.
Like these beloved sagas, Santiago's TOMORROW THEY WILL KISS will capture your interest, make you laugh, challenge your beliefs, and break your heart.
TOMORROW THEY WILL KISS is a great read, and I can almost guarantee you will love it. You will love it because in this novel you will find not only yourself, but also your parents, your cousins, and the friends you grew up with. One of the things I admire about this writer is his ability to make people from a culture entirely different from mine seem just like folks I have always known.
And ladies, you are in for a treat, because this is a novel by that rarity in the male-dominated world of great literature: a male writer who truly understands women and appreciates us, in spite of the faults--if any--we may have.
Buy this book and read it soon. You will laugh, cry, and delight in your discovery of EDUARDO SANTIAGO, a man who is becoming one of the great writers of our time.
An enjoyable novel.......2006-11-03
I liked the book very much. It is a good portrait of three cuban women in exile and their relationship with each other in their new country. The book jumps back to their lives in Cuba several times and highlights the social fiber of a cuban small town and the pressures on women. In this way the challenges of functioning in a new society while still maintaining their values and idiosyncracies is very well highlighted. Those values are not always valid and they get in the way of their friendship and reading of these ladies trying desperate to hold onto them is bitter-sweet.
My favorite character is Graciela. She is striving for freedom and independence and it is a lot of fun to read how finally she manages to achieve it, in this country.
I saw a little bit of myself in the women. If you are a cuban female read the book, just might just see yourself also. Alicia
A good airplane read..........2006-09-12
I purchased this novel after reading a review in Latina magazine. After experimenting with several modern novels in Spanish, and my frustration at reading current best-sellers translated into Spanish, I decided to try my hand at novels tackling Latin culture written in English. The result was an interesting novel that idealizes aspects of Latin culture and gives insight to the Cuban-Amerian plight.

Book Description
Within the infamous underworld of Bridgeport, CT dwells Cream and War, childhood partners who stay on the grind 24-7. Everyday is a hustle, so everyday is hectic. In the midst of doing daily dirt they encounter Tiara, a blazin' beauty hailing out of Brooklyn, NY who has just moved to the Terrace Garden Projects. Looks can be deceiving. Tiara rolls with an all female squad of vigilante cut-throats that hold the power to either redeem or destroy their lives.
PAYBACK'S A BITCH is certified intelligent gangsta! It's the first epic tale of the Woman Hood series. In this cinema-in-ink styled novel, the author Marcus Spears submerges readers into the notorious realm of BPT, CT a city where the motto "Two wrongs don't make it right, it makes it even" originated. Now pull up your jeans or tighten your bra strap as you learn that in the center of all lies, lies the truth and whatever you do...never put too much trust in friends!

Great Book!.......2006-06-20
I am from the same hometown as Marcus Spears, and I know and relate to the things that he talk about in his first book, Payback's a Bitch. Because of everything that was going on back home, growing up around the corner from the Infamous Father Panik Village that he talks about in the book and all the negativity that was going on in the hood, I left, joined the military and got out of there quick. I may not have been one of the safest moves that I ever made, but I can say that it was the smartest. Everytime that I come home, the same pepole that I grew up with are still doing the same things that they were doing when I left.
I commend Marcus greatly for writing this book and exposing the life that we all endured coming up in the mean streets of Bridgeport, and letting them all know that it's a lot that we endured in our lives growing up there.
Paybacks always a BITCH.......2006-03-16
I enjoyed the book and look forward to the sequel.I found myself
scimming over some of the dialog from Ma because it tended to go on and on but all in all the book was a good read and I look forward to finding out what payback Mende will get.
Ok Read.......2006-03-03
I read this book in one night, but only to get to the second book to see if it was any better. Instead of 3 stars, I give it 2 1/2.
Balance.......2006-02-11
Cash rules everything around me and in Bridgeport Connecticut there is no difference. In this first episode, Payback's A Bitch we're introduced to childhood friends Cream, Warren a.k.a War and Drench. Cream is known for hustling hustlers, War is a big time womanizer and poor Drench is a broke weed head. The three friends are all products of their environment and find themselves in "the garden" preparing to extract revenge on a small time hustler.
Just as the conspiracy opens up the readers are introduced to `the Woman Hood' a sexy hit squad that deals payback instead of dope. The all female militia take a special interest in Cream and War.
Payback's A Bitch is a terrific book with an assortment of drugs, sex, lies, betrayal, violence, politics and corruption.
I particularly like the way Marcus Spears illustrates a sense of hope and planning to rebuild and restructure the hoods. I cannot wait to read more about the `Woman Hood', they have me completely open.

I have one word to describe Creepin'--WHEW!! I'm particularly partial to L.A. Banks' 'Payback is a Bitch'... this story was one helluva way to begin this particular ride. If you're looking for a little spice in your life, then this book is for you. Best read with a signicant other beside you to put out the fire that will surely ignite as you turn these pages!

Five bestselling authors produce a collection of horror so eccentric and erotic readers will need an angelic moment.
'Payback is A Bitch' by L.A. Banks (Werewolves)

From the first meeting, detective Brickland knows he is in trouble, Sidney pulls something out of him that very few people have seen. 'Vamped' by Monica Jackson (Vampires)
After too many bad relationships, Joy has finally found her soul mate, Andre. His one negative is he doesn't venture from home after work; but there is a reason he doesn't go out after dark. To show her home girls she really does have a man Joy convinces Andre to go to a night spot. With much reservation he acquiesces. Andre is afraid and rightly so, that night becomes a nightmare as Joy is introduced to a kind of living that really isn't living.
'Balancing the Scales' by J.M. Jefferies (Voodoo)
Arriving back in Las Vegas from a five day meeting that took two days, recording star, Paloma is excited about surprising her husband. But as she climbs the stairs to her bedroom, the surprise is on her. Fuel is added to the fire when she learns her husband has depleted all of her financial accounts and mortgaged the house. Murder is too good for him, he needs to suffer; a trip to New Orleans, to visit her aunt Odile, is in order. But Paloma will have to pay a precious price.
'Avenging Angel' by Janice Sims (Angels)
Detective Sarai Wingate is one of the best on the force, her specialty is capturing pedophiles. Her methods are unorthodox, but she always gets her man. Sarai is married to a human but her genetic make up is out of this world. She has an admirer whose heritage and genetic makeup are just as strong, but anthetical to hers; and he wants her bad. Her admirer visits a four-hundred-year-old sorceress to activate his obsession for Sarai. The terms of the spell are either he will get his desire or he will meet his death.
CREEPIN takes readers to a realm beyond the limits of their sensory imagination, where anything can happen -and does. Fueled by lust and deception the characters take journeys to the dark side of sexual decadence and other-world fantasies. To the five contributing authors, I raise my oven mitt, it was hot.

The lusting for more books like this!!.......2007-07-28
Let's just start from the beginning You'll know that what I say is true after you purchase this book. It will have you at a supreme state of lust. A true page turner chapter after chapter. The characters are so real and interesting. Leslie you started the heat and the others continued to burn my retinas to the core.
Erotic Horror .......2007-07-20
Creepin is a new "animal" for me. I usually don't go for fantasy, sci-fi whatever you want to call it. The excerpt made me curious. If you don't want to read about werewolves fighting over women, women getting revenge on their husband with help from the voodoo lady, vampires trying to steal your man, having intimate relations with unseen and unknown individuals.....then this is not the novel for you.
Those that are brave enough to read....you will definitely enjoy it. I bought this book yesterday and I've read L.A. Banks story TWICE!!! Something about man who looks good and howls at the moon is kinda sexy. Donna Hill's story kinda freaked me out but I had to finish it.....I would prefer to see the man I was sleeping with but I guess that's why I couldn't put it down.
Creepin' is not your average romance novel....but I enjoyed it.
Erotic Horror At It's Best.......2007-06-25
What happens when some of the best romance authors come together to write a horror anthology? You get a collection of short stories that's sure to please! Although all of the stories in Creepin' gravitate toward revenge, someone creepin' is what leads to the revenge, hence the title. So, if you plan on doing wrong to someone, then you really need to pay attention to what you read in this book.
Popular authoress of The Vampire Huntress Legend, L.A. Banks, kicks the anthology off with a very erotic scene in the first chapter of Payback Is A B!tch. In this story, Sidney Coleburn-West is a successful lawyer who has worked hard for everything she has, but is very unappreciated by her cheating husband, Douglas West. When Sidney wants out of her loveless marriage without losing everything she's earned, she turns to her best friend Lenora for help with hiring a special private investigator who they call Brick. Will Sidney receive justice?
In the erotic horror story, The Heat Of The Night, Donna Hill introduces us to a woman named Christine who has been having what she thinks are very vivid sexual dreams. However, it isn't until she realizes how tired she is in the mornings that she realizes the dreams are very real. When Christine lets these escapades take over her life, how far will she go to keep having them?
Popular romance author and the editor of Creepin', Monica Jackson, keeps the pace going with her story titled Vamped. This story is about a sista named Joy who is happily engaged to her fiancé, Andre. So happy, that she brags about him to her co-workers all of the time. However, because he never accompanies her to different outings, they believe that he doesn't exist. That's when she realizes how much they don't go out. When she finally convinces Andre to go out, their good time is short lived when a mysterious woman shows up.
J.M. Jeffries doesn't disappoint with their story titled Balancing The Scales. This story is about a singing diva, Paloma, who not only discovers that her husband, Keith, is having an affair, but has also spent all of the millions of dollars that she's earned over the years. Although she told herself she would never go back, she returns to the bayou of New Orleans to seek out the help of her Great Aunt, Miss Odile, to assist her in delivering justice New Orleans style. Is the price for revenge too high for Paloma to pay?
Avenging Angel by Janice Sims is a story about a Grigori named Sarai, who makes it her life's mission to protect innocent people. Sarai and her husband, Daniel, have been happy for years and are finally expecting. Just when she thought things were going well, an old flame of hers, Nighthawk, comes back into her life and he not only wants Sarai back, but wants her to have his child. Can Sarai succeed in getting Nighthawk to leave her and her husband in peace?
Each story in this anthology was well written and made you want to read one story after the other, nonstop. However, if I could bring one of these characters to life it would have to be Brick from L.A. Banks' story Payback Is A B!tch. Ms. Banks described him so well that for a moment, I wished that I was a character in that story just so that I could see him in person. I thoroughly enjoyed this anthology and if you read it, I'm sure that you will too.

Book Description
This acclaimed series serves as a biography of the U.S. Constitution, offering an indispensable survey of the congressional history behind its development. In a rare examination of the role that both the legislative and executive branches have played in the development of constitutional interpretation, The Constitution in Congress shows how the actions and proceedings of these branches reveal perhaps even more about constitutional disputes than Supreme Court decisions of the time.
The centerpiece for the fourth volume in this series is the great debate over slavery and how this divisive issue led the country into the maelstrom of the Civil War. From the Jacksonian revolution of 1829 to the secession of Southern states from the Union, legal scholar David P. Currie provides an unrivaled analysis of the significant constitutional events—the Wilmot Proviso, the Compromise of 1850, the Kansas-Nebraska Act, the Lincoln-Douglas Debates, and "Bleeding Kansas"—that led up to the war. Exploring how slavery was addressed in presidential speeches and debated in Congress, Currie shows how the Southern Democrats dangerously diminished federal authority and expanded states' rights, threatening the nation's very survival.
Like its predecessors, this fourth volume of The Constitution in Congress will be an invaluable reference for legal scholars and constitutional historians alike.

A glimpse into the universe of Warhammer 40K........2006-07-08
This is a compilation of short stories in the dark future of Warhammer 40K, when the human empire has reached its peak and are challenged on all sides by relentless enemies. As with all 40K fiction, these stories are full of brutal carnage and non-stop action in a universe without limits. Follow federation soldiers, space marines, inquisitors, aribites, naval officers and all other manner of emperial servants on quests to fight evil and sustain the empire.
These stories offer a great glimpse into the universe of Warhammer and would be a great place for someone to start reading WH40K literature.
A collection of Warhammer 40,000 short stories.......2003-10-15
This book is a collection of Warhammer 40,000/Black Library publications. It contains some of the earlier short stories orginally printed in "Inferno" a bi-monthly magazine that showcases several short stories each and every month. This book has several good short stories. Here is a rundown of a few of the stories you will read if you buy this book.
The First Story is "Salvation". Its a story of a forgotten Ultramarine who was stranded on a planet after a tyranid cleansing; where he is was injured and considered MIA. The Ultramarine has no memory of who or what he truely is. He is taken by a family in a small farming community, and starts his life anew, as a simple farmer. But, some things are not meant to be, for there is something lerking in the woods. Something that must be dealt with.
"Into the Maelstrom" is a Twisted tale surrounding one of the divious and dangerous characters in the warhammer 40,000 universe, "The Blood Reaver"; the leader of the Chaos space marine pirates known as, Huron Blackheart. There is a plot to kill Huron Blackheart. But somethings are easier to plot than to achieve.
"The Black Pearl" is the story of Uzziel, a Interrogator-chaplin of the Dark Angels space marine chapter. Durning a Interrogation of one of the traitorous "Fallen", Uzziel falls upon knowlege of a ancient and precious artifact. "The Lion Sword" was the property of their Primarch Lion El' Jonson, and had been lost since the battle with luther. Will this information lead Uzziel and the Dark Angels to "The Lion Sword" or into a trap. Look for the Eldar to play a major part in this tale as well.
"Hell in a Bottle" is a story about a man made training planet, which is powered by the "Mimesis engine". The caretaker of these huge training vacility is Tydaemus, a instructor-sergent of the Iron Heart space marine chapter. A Chaos Prince named Kargon "The Seed bearer" and his hoard of Bloodletters has mistaken this planet of machine parts, gears and holografic material for a real planet, and has marked it for planting its "Seed of Chaos". The only person who can stand up to this demonic hoard is Tydaemus.
"In the Belly of the Beast" takes you inside a Tyranid Hive ship, along with a squad of young space wolves lead by sgt. Harkon. What will they find?? You'll have to read "Into the Maelstrom" to find out.
Great........2001-09-13
This and Dark Imperium are a collection of short stories. If you think 40k is for you this will give you an all round view that can't be beat. Some of the stories were exceptional but with short stories they can't all suit you. I liked both and would recommend them to anyone.
Welcome to the world of Warhammer.......2001-07-16
Warhammer is a universe that is constantly at war. Humans, chaos soldiers, dwarves, elves, ogres, dragons, tyranids, griffons, eldar, daemons, mages, and countless other beings make up this world. Into the Maelstrom is a gritty collection of twelve short stories that are all set in the fantastic universe of Warhammer. The good thing about short stories is that they are straight to the point. There are not any boring paragraphs because most of the stories are less than thirty pages. Each story(except one) kept me entertained and I can't wait to get my hands on another Warhammer novel.
Just OK.......2000-09-28
Warhammer 40K stories have been more about the setting than the story. It's interesting to see some of the background, but for the money you're better off reading something else.

A Descent into the Maelstrom.......2006-08-01
"A Descent Into The Maelstrom", by Edgar Allan Poe, is the story of a man's struggle with the sea. The narrator of the story is recounting the tale, as the guide told it to him. The guide has led the narrator to the edge of a steep cliff so that he can view for himself the jagged rocks and crashing surf below him. As they watch, the swirling waves begin to form into a whirlpool where everything is sucked into its core. The guide proceeds to tell how, three years earlier, he and his brothers faced a life and death battle to escape the maelstrom. I wanted to read this story because I like reading about the sea and have also always loved reading Poe's works. I believe that younger children would have difficulty understanding it, but teens and adults would enjoy the suspense of this conflict between man and nature.
In my opinion, the imagery of the setting was so vivid it made me want to go see this place for myself: "...this "little cliff" arose, a sheer unobstructed precipice of black shining rock, some fifteen or sixteen hundred feet from the world of crags beneath us" and "...To the right and left, as far as the eye could reach, there lay outstretched, like ramparts of the world, lines of horridly black and beetling cliff, whose character of gloom was but the more forcibly illustrated by the surf which reared high up against it its white and ghastly crest, howling and shrieking for ever." By these quotes, the reader can almost feel the mesmerizing effect of the ocean as it pulls its victims to its black depths. Another reason why I liked this particular story is because it developed the old man's character very well for such a short narrative. The guide must be very brave and perhaps a little reckless to take his boat out where no other fisherman would go near. The fact that he does not blame his brother for what he does proves his moral character and love for his siblings. The old man also states that he is broken in body and spirit, but proves that he is not completely broken by the carefree way he sits on the edge of the cliff.
Overall, I thought this was one of Poe's best stories. Even though you know that the guide survived, you still are intrigued to find out how he escaped against such unbelievable odds. If you enjoy reading vivid tales of struggles between man and nature, stories that build the suspense until the very end, or just love Edgar Allan Poe's stories in general then I would highly recommend "A Descent Into The Maelstrom".

Palestinian Propaganda.......2000-08-07
This book reminds me of a one sided trial in which the judge the prosecutor and the defense attorney are all the same. The author spits hate towards the Israeli government through out the whole book. It is obvious there is an agenda from the first page, to the last one. I'll give a few Examples: The author calls Arabs Citizens-Palestinians. Arabs in Israel can vote unlike Palestinians. Also the author blames Israel for the refugees problem of 1948 but forgets to mention that it was the Arab countries including the Arabs that were living inside Israel that were the aggressors in that war. If it wasn't for the 1948 war the whole refugee problem wouldn't have been created. As long as the Palestinians and the Author will see Israel like the crusaders that lasted in Israel for a short time and not like a permanent country, there won't be a solution. PS Is it a coincidence that this book was printed in Lebanon?

Deadly whirlwind of action and despair.......2000-05-02
The grand kingdom of Norwold, pioneered by heroic adventurers (perhaps the PCs, see module CM1), falls prey to a deadly mist... an ancient Alphatian emperor, now an Immortal of Entropy, has brought this final revenge upon the children of his nemesis. To destroy him, a vast armada must be assembled by the greatest heroes of the realm (levels 25-30!), and the spheres of space and time must be unlocked for the final, horrific revelation... a dramatic, forgotten classic, and recommended.

Another excellent publication from Tempus.......2007-05-16
His Majesty's Hospital Ship Rohilla is Whitby's most famous shipwreck and this is her story. In October 1914, the Rohilla sailed from Leith on a mercy mission to Dunkirk for a rendezvous with wounded and dying soldiers. That particular appointment with death, however, was soon changed for another when, at 0400 hrs on 29 October 1914 the Rohilla ran hard aground on Saltwick Nab and was lost. This tragic accident happened in the midst of a fierce gale which lasted for several days during which time 85 people lost their lives. It says much for the gallant RNLI that 6 Lifeboats were used in these most treacherous circumstances and between them rescued 146 people. This is especially so when one learns that the Lifeboat John Fielden was damaged each time she set out and was eventually abandoned in an irreparable condition. No fewer that 3 RNLI Gold Medals and 4 Silver Medals were subsequently awarded.
"Into the Maelstrom - The Wreck of HMHS Rohilla" contains all, the information anyone with an interest in this ship would wish to know. The book measures a little over 9" x 6" and is well thought out with chapters on Allied Hospital Ships of WW1, the Barnoldswick connection, the loss of the ship itself, the Lifeboat Henry Vernon, inquest proceedings, funerals, an epilogue, memoriam and finally exploring the wreck. The book is then neatly finished off with Appendices listing the names of all survivors, those who cared for them, the Lifeboats involved, and a final section under the general subject of Hospital Ships containing no fewer than 21 historic photographs of good and great ships from yesterday.
Altogether a very competent piece of work and one which is of immense interest to everyone with a knowledge of this particular vessel - especially those who are able to visit the wreck today.

Book Description
In Creating Miracles, Carolyn Miller explores miracles in people’s lives. In over 50 accounts of real experiences, she describes how ordinary people spontaneously entered altered states of consciousness and positively affected sometimes life-threatening events. Drawing on her scientific background as an experimental psychologist, she analyzes the common patterns in these situations as well as the skepticism with which these stories might be received. Part one of Creating Miracles spotlights “ordinary” miracles, where average people respond to extraordinary circumstances. Part two explains how to create the personal conditions that are needed for a miracle to occur. Miller shows the importance of being able to tap into intuition (the inner divine guide) as well as disarming the ego in bringing a person into a state of miracle readiness. A handy “Things to Think About” section at the end of each chapter highlights the chapter’s most important points.

Intriguing and inspirational...........2007-03-08
This book has something for everyone. Even if you don't buy into the new age stuff, the anecdotes alone are worth it. To say the very least, it left me thinking, and answered in a very unique and straightforward manner those eternal questions like "why do good people suffer?" "Is God cruel?"...
Dr. Miller walks the line between clinical talk and everyday language very well, unlike many other clinical psychologists. She presents her arguments in a very readable and rational manner.
All in all, a very readable book, and if you're into this sort of thing like I am, then it's a MUST HAVE! :-)
An excellent book.......2006-07-03
I happened to be in a local Chapters bookstore one day and stumbled across this book, "Creating Miracles - A Practical Guide to Divine Intervention" by Carolyn Miller. When I first noticed it I thought that it would be simply another run-of-the-mill book filled with 'new-age' fodder and fluff. However, after leafing through the pages for a couple of moments, I became intrigued and purchased it.
What I found did not disappoint me. The author tackles the subject of miracles - what they are, how they are created, and why some never seem to have them happen - with the objectivity of both a psychologist and believer of 'faith' combined. She manages to analyze and explain just how the inner workings of miracles come about, how to recognize them, and how to work upon bringing more miracles into one's own life. Filled with anecdotes and documented cases, along with a great sense of humor and humility, "Creating Miracles" is a book I would highly recommend. Interestingly, after reading one chapter that addressed a commonality among those who have experienced miracles in their lives, Miller noted that one thing all cases she related in her book had one thing in common...they all came to a point of surrender just before the miracle happened. She noted that a sense of peace came over each individual, despite the sometimes horrific events that were taking place at that moment. And as I read this I was taken back to a day in 1979 when, a week before my wedding, I almost drowned. I had been in a boat with my fiance and a friend at dusk, on a deserted lake. No lifejackets, not another soul around for miles, and our boat began to take on water at a steady rate. I couldn't swim a stroke, and at first panic set in as the two men tried to keep the boat from going under. The water was flooding in much too fast however, and within moments it had gone under. And I recall that at the moment the water had reached my chin, a sense of inner peace enveloped me. I didn't struggle, didn't panic...didn't even attempt to save myself...I just 'let go' and waited, almost as though I was an observer watching the event unfold. As soon as this sense of inner peace took over, something miraculous happened. Despite there being no visibility (as the sun had gone down), one of the men suddenly grabbed me and threw me into a dinghy that we had been towing. It seemed so effortless, and so 'right', yet the odds of him finding me as I sunk below the surface, the water pitch black and not able to see within a foot around us, would have been incredibly low. I hadn't called out, hadn't made a sound in the water...yet he was guided to me and he managed to save me nevertheless. I believe this is exactly what Carolyn Miller talks about in her book; this is how so many have experienced miracles in their lives...unexpected, sometimes life-threatening events that suddenly grasp us and in those few moments, we have the free will to decide (either consciously or subconsciously) how to act.
I highly recommend this book, as it may open your eyes to ways in which to invite miracles into your own lives, or even to recognize when miracles have indeed, taken place.
Do You Believe in Miracles?.......2006-05-02
DO YOU KNOW HOW TO CREATE MIRACLES?
Armed with a Ph.D. in experimental psychology, Carolyn Godschild Miller tackles some tricky issues in her fine book Creating Miracles: A Practical Guide to Divine Intervention.
The book delivers a heaping plateful of inspiring and astounding true tales - deliverance from deadly dangers and personal attacks; synchronicities; healing by prayer, visualization and distant intention - the stories alone are worth the price of admission. Even if you don't believe in miracles as such, but prefer to view the "miraculous" as an unexplained facet of the natural world (as I do), you will find much in Dr. Miller's book to appreciate, enjoy, and use. An eye-opener as well as a heart-opener, this book shows that amazingly good outcomes are possible in even the most hopeless-looking situations.
Defining a miracle as "an instance in which a supernatural power interferes in the natural world," Miller says, "the actual miracle is not the healed body or the peaceful outcome to a dangerous situation. It is the unconditionally loving state of mind that allows such things to happen." The peaceful, loving, assured state of mind associated with meditation is felt to be the catalyst for miracles. In this, the author follows the spiritual curriculum of A Course in Miracles.
Dr. Miller is an astute writer, fluid and user-friendly, with an intriguing sense of humor. Her engaging accounts of purportedly miraculous events provide a punch that deflates defenses and opens the imagination - wide. Stories and chapters in Creating Miracles brought joyful tears to my eyes, a warm expansion to my heart, and a sense of empowerment and determination to my intellect.
In her review of the scientific literature, Miller tackles chance, coincidence, skepticism, and the 95% confidence level with wit and an insider's knowledge of the vagaries of the experimental method. Her final chapters challenge the reader to fashion personal experiments conjuring up (or meeting) divine guides and test-driving miracle-mindedness.
Credulity is, of course, an issue. Dr. Miller apparently believes that specific "miraculous" things are possible, such as the sudden, perfectly-timed appearance of a life-saving beaver pond where none had ever been seen before. I don't. But if you get too uptight about being credulous, you may miss the plum in the midst of the pie. I'll bet you'll appreciate the body of what Miller has to say and how she says it. I'll bet you're going to want to read every page of this book and share it with friends.
Creating Miracles is sagely organized. Stories in the beginning tantalize the ego; admonitions at the end are soaked with spirit. The book takes you on a delightful journey and by the time you're finished you're not quite the same person who started. Miller's book is gently persuasive. It animated me.
263 pages of mega-brilliance can't be boiled down to a brief review, and a summary can't do justice to the high quality of thought and intention in this book. To get the gift, you'll have to read it yourself. As the subtitle promises, it's practical - it teaches you how to begin to do these marvelous miracles (or facilitate these beneficent mysteries). And it's a fine read.
