Pulls you in from the very first sentence.......2004-12-19
SUGAR CAGE weaves the story of such disparate people as Inez Temple, black maid to rich folks, Patrick Lackley, finicky mortician, and Charlie Loonie, front-man schmoozer for a local band. The women in this book will steal your heart -- especially the dear-hearted Inez, Charlie's loyal wife, Rose, and the magical Soleil Marie Beauvoir. The story is often dark and sad, but the mystical ending will inspire and uplift you.
For a first novel, I found the writing astonishing. Anyone who can make you care about so many contrasting characters (and make it easy to follow the thread) is a born writer. I adore a novel that pulls you in from the very first sentence . . . SUGAR CAGE does that.
Sugar Cage - An Unforgettable Journey.......2003-10-01
After reading Before Women had Wings, I hungered for more from Connie May Fowler. I found Sugar Cage to be a deeply satisfying follow-up. The novel, told in many different voices, takes us on the unforgettable journeys of a diverse cast of characters, all of whom reel the reader into an intricate tapestry woven by Fowler. Startling descriptions of Hatian voodoo rituals were among the most vivid scenes from the book, whose magical conclusion leaves the reader spellbound. A mesmerizing novel, Sugar Cage, like Fowler's other work, has left me hungry for more!
The ways we entrap ourselves, and the ways we escape........2002-02-12
Inez Temple is working as a maid in a cheap tourist hotel on the South Florida coast when she meets Rose Looney. A Haitian woman with an ability to "see' the outlines of peoples lives, Inez sees in the sugar crystals in the bottom of a glass Rose has drunk from the outlines of a cage and knows early on that Rose and her new husband, Charlie, and their friends Junior and Eudora, and their children, are destined to be trapped in many ways in the years to come.
15 years later, Rose knows this as well. How she struggles to find her way through her broken marriage and try to save her only son from the same fate in the midst of all the "bars of the cages" society and life confine her within--poverty, racism, sexism, cultural snobbery and so on, is at the core of this unusual tale of life in the melting pot that is South Florida.
The mysticism gets a bit out of hand at times-and stretches credulity it the process, but this is a minor flaw in an otherwise excellent novel.
Sugar Cage.......2000-06-13
Connie May Fowler creates intimacy for the reader and all of the books characters. By bringing first person to all the characters we get to know more about how people choose the decisions they made and what motivates each one towards the life they choose. I really enjoyed the way she was able to keep the story progressing thorugh time but also using other's perspective on what occured or is occuring at the moment. Also the influences of Haitian voo-doo help add new depth to Florida southern culture. And gives new information to the reader about pagean religion and the intellegence and beauty it brings to the characters of this book. I felt her pride or her willingness to explore and place in a positive light Haitian voo-doo. I think the main essence of the book for me was that everyone needed to listen to thier own voice. And once they steered away from that is when thier lives turned towards unhappiness. The realness of coming to terms with our demons and releasing ourselves into our own strengths was what I felt Fowler was trying to get across. The beauty of how she used everyones perspective instead of one main character and narrator is what I enjoyed the most. I enjoyed being able to be sypathetic to everyone's life and the way they had/have chosen to live it.
It was a lovely and detailed book. I couldn't put it down.......1999-09-21
This was the type of book that you can never put down. I read it all in one night. The best part about the book is the way the author displayed each character individually. It then ended up showing how each of the characters were uniquely linked togeather. It's a book that I will always love to read again and again. I would most definitly reccomend it.

What a book!.......2005-08-02
The number 7 book problably was the best Ceres book I've read. It shows how the characters feelings were brought out for a reason. Even though I'm against sex before marraige, it made the story interesting and a part of Ceres. If you wanna buy a book, buy this one.In this book,Aya Mikage travels with Yuhi, Shuro and Chidori to Miyagi and meet a girl named Maya and her dog who may have been possessed by an ancestral maiden. Later in this book Aya finally makes Tooya reveal his feelings for her. Also, he's finally starting to remember his past. Aya is as supportive as ever, but breaks Yuhi's heart when he found out the person he loves slept with his "rival".That's what I call a love triangle. itcertainly is a good book full of drama and romance. IT'S AWESOME!!!!!
Very emotional volume.......2005-07-16
I've read the entire Ceres manga series in order and loved every volume. In this volume, Aya and Tooya are kissing in bed in Tooya's building. Tooya is Aya's boyfriend and lover. When someone attacks, Tooya defends Aya, killing many in the process. Aya slaps him when he kills many and Tooya is shocked. Tooya resolves to become a better person and not kill anyone again- even if it means risking his life. Aya is investigating at a school, and Yuuhi kisses her again when she's away from Tooya. Aya tells him that Tooya is the one she loves. She's upset about what she did to Tooya. She meets a girl named Maya, and a very emotional part occurs. Maya's powers kill everything near her. She's very nice, but when possessed she harms people clsoe to her. She abuses her pet when she loses control. When she decides to kill herself, her pet saves her and dies in the process. She asks why he saves her when she abused him. He rememebred all the good times with her and rescued her because he knows she's good. That was a very emotional part. Aya sees Tooya, who us in critical condition. Aya goes over to him. Tooya tells her that he made it without killing anybody. Aya tells Tooya she didn't mean it like that. They go to Tooya's house where Aya cares for him. Tooya hugs Aya. Tooya kisses her. As they kiss, their kisses deepen. They are on Tooya's bed and share many kisses and make love. The next morning, Aya and Tooya go to town and have pcitures taken. Tooya is very happy and holds Aya's hand and kisses her. Aya finds out, though, a shocking consequence if Tooya regains his memory.
Ceres: Volume 7 .......2004-07-30
I was so glad to finally found this book, as Ceres has taken a while to come out in America. In the book, Aya Mikage continues her search for the Celestial Maiden's (ceres) hagoromo. She travels to the Miyami Prefecture with Yuuhi and the two begin searching in an all-girls school there. This manga is much better than the others in some respects. More clues are gained to Tooya's past, and he and Aya have their first fight. It's an exciting piece of the story, and you won't want ot miss it. You will want book 8, however, as soon as you finish reading this.

Book Description
Saving yourself and America from financial ruin. Just as all the truths of God's reality are basically simple, once we let ourselves discover them, so THE MIRIACLE ON MAIN STREET reveals the beautiful but simple truth of how the individual in America today can restore freedom. The book is free from hatred, hostility, or revenge. It's the positive, loving nature of its answers that gives it its great power. Its course of action is fun! "Read it and try its recommendations. You'll like yourself more for doing so. And your children and grandchildren will love you for it!" - Bob Crane

One of the Top Books that I have ever read!.......2002-07-30
Though, it has been many years since I read this one, I will
never forget its content. After reading this one, you will
reexamine your values and definitely have a deeper insight
into how and why this country was founded.
enlightening.......2001-04-23
Read this book in 1980, lost the copies I had and FINALLY found it- thanx to amazon.com.. Got me and many other people i introduced it to thinking: Could this be true? Is it that easy? What are the repurcussions? Will I, or any one else, get in to trouble following the authors suggestions? Where can I find more information on this subject? Where can I find a lawyer to represent me should I get in to a 'jam' with the "powers that be" by following these ideas? The second best book I've ever read on this subject; am still, waiting for the first best...
To stand for the law or not?.......2000-02-10
I read this book in l984 and I was amazed. Something which is seemingly so complex is actually quite simple. Mr. Saussy gives the reader an excellent explaination of the intent of the constitutional framers in regard to our money system and to the honesty which such a system produces. For years I wondered about Mr. Saussy and only tonight I learned that he has returned and he has written a new non-fiction book for his audience. F. Tupper Saussy has returned and freedom lovers have an important symbol back! Read this book if you can.
Truth to keep you up nights.......2000-02-07
This book offers an exceptional wealth of information. Written from a Christian perspective, it will compel you to delve deeper into the subject of our governments' agenda in the realm of money. I started it, then couldn't put it down. When I finished it, I brewed some coffee and reread large portions of it. I wanted to call the author, the publisher, anyone who could and would verify all the info presented here. I marvel at the fullness of the book, yet am driven to learn more about the topic.
Miracle on Main Street- F. Tupper Saussy.......1999-11-29
I have read this book and highly recomend it to any one who wants to know about the real intent of the Founders of the USA. This book is a gift to every individual in this Great Country from one of the most intellegent individuals I have had the privilige to to know personally. It will set you free and stir the spirit up that made being an American and what it stands for, freedom!

Book Description
Race and the Assemblies of God Church chronicles the treatment of African Americans by the largest, predominantly white, Pentecostal denomination in the United States. The formation of the Assemblies of God in 1914, brought an end to the interracial focus of the Pentecostal movement that characterized the revival from its inception in Los Angeles, California, at an abandoned warehouse on Azusa Street in 1906. Dr. Newman utilizes the extensive archival holdings of the Flower Pentecostal Heritage Center, housed in the international headquarters of the Assemblies of God in Springfield, Missouri, to support his contention that Assemblies of God leaders deliberately engaged in racist efforts to prevent African American participation in Assemblies of God activities because the denominational leaders feared the reaction of its ministers and congregations in the American South. In addition, a concerted effort to refer African Americans interested in the Assemblies of God to African American groups, such as the Church of God in Christ, was approved at the highest levels of Assemblies of God leadership. Ultimately, efforts to exclude African Americans from the denomination led to official decisions to refuse them ordination and approved resolutions to support the establishment of a separate, unrelated Pentecostal denomination specifically for African Americans. Assemblies of God attitudes regarding racial issues changed only as a result of the civil rights movement and its effect upon American society during the 1960s and 1970s. The treatment of race in church groups with European origins was compared to that of the Assemblies of God and the influence of African and slave religions upon the rise of the Pentecostal movement. Finally, the author provides an analysis of the 1994 event known as the "Miracle of Memphis" in which white Pentecostal denominations dissolved the racially segregated Pentecostal Fellowship of North America in favor of a new organization, the Pentecostal and Charismatic Churches of North America. The book concludes that although current Assemblies of God leaders have embraced the concept of an integrated church fellowship that no longer excludes African Americans, there is virtually no evidence of wide acceptance of this concept at the local church level in the denomination.
