Nicky Sullivan can't turn her back on an injured animal, but this time she's going to heal herself. After fleeing to a South Carolina barrier island, she discovers a kindred spirit in Mac Moultrie, a salty retired fisherman, as they ease into a leisure routine of crabbing and shrimping in the marshlands, unaware of a lurking murderer.
From the moment Nicky lays eyes on Trippett Alston, she's smitten. However, this Southern gentleman is more interested in fighting off the condominium development threatening to destroy the character of his beloved island and its turtle nesting grounds than in the "forlorn Yankee artist."
Nicky and Trip are destined for each other, but their allegiance to old causes, and the dark forces swirling around the island threaten to keep them apart. Pelican Watch is a tender love story with a charming, sensitive heroine, told against a backdrop of murder and suspense, and laced with the flavor of South Carolina's lush lowcountry and the unforgettable people who try to preserve it.

GREAT READING.......2006-12-09
I was drawn to the book because of the S. Carolina stetting and I got far more out this story than I expected. Pelican Watch had me glued from the beginning. The characters reminded me of people I've known and I'm sure most people can relate to. In very few words the writer was able to bring deep and sensitive aspects of one's personality to life. Her style of writing is unique, fast and very literary. Having visited the restored homes in Savanah made me realize the passion that must have gone into the restoration. The murder kept me in suspense and the circumstances made me wonder if it really happened. I'll look forward to her next book.
Pelican Watch .......2006-10-16
Rose Senehi is an amazingly descriptive writer. Her knack for giving haunting details practically puts you in the room with the characters. I was enraptured from the prologue. This is a wonderfully complex story that includes elements of mystery, romance, family heritage, and self discovery set in an area rich with Southern culture. I would recommend this book to anyone.
Great Beach Read.......2006-05-17
Im not much of a reader myself b/c it has always been hard for me to get into books. But I picked up this book one day at a local book store in Pawleys Island, SC and boy was I suprised. I def. recommend this to anyone ! it has mistery, a spicey love story, well drawn out characters, well... it has it all : )
I highly recomend this book !! I would call it one of thoose "must reads" .. coming from a girl thats doesnt really take the time to read a book ... that means alot ; ) believe me !
Wonderful Read.......2004-11-12
This is a wonderful story exemplifying how our lives can positively impact others and how these relationships affect, and also change, us. The author provides us this experience through the characters in Pelican Watch.
Nicky understands she is free from the burdens of responsibility for others and no longer feels guilty to independently live her own life. Tripp realizes he can actually love another person and not be centered on himself and his heritage. Mac comes to see his strengths after running away from them most of his life because of a teenage tragedy. Cheryl becomes confident that her roots are very important to her happiness and existence. Others too find ways to make their lives more meaningful.
The setting is truly the Deep South. Customs, environment and attitudes all overlap to give the reader a genuine feeling of another time and place, but still, not so very long ago. The story provides interesting and accurate information tied together with an excitement and tempo that keeps one eager to read the next chapter. Sometimes one wished there was more detail and slower transitions. However, the author gets the job done making the book an enjoyable read!
Rose Senehi's has learned her subject well, telling a complimentary story about the natives of Pawleys Island, South Carolina. There is a great deal to learn from these people who lived and matured in this part of our country.
What a great movie this would make!

Book Description
Devlin of Duncaer is the Chosen One, champion of the Kingdom of Jorsk. A simple metalsmith and farmer turned warrior, he has become the most unlikely of heroes to the conquerors of his own people, the Caerfolk. Yet there is a growing faction of Jorskians who believe that if he were truly anointed as Chosen One by the Gods, then the immortals would have given him the Sword of Light as proof of his calling.
Missing for generations, the sword is more myth than reality. But Devlin knows where to find it. Lost in battle after the Jorskians’ brutal massacre of Caerfolk, it has remained in Duncaer, a souvenir of one of the land’s darkest days.
Feeling more than ever a pawn of fate—and a plaything of the Gods who drive him—Devlin must return to the land of his birth, back to the people who have denounced him. For he is bound by an oath he has no choice but to obey...a promise he may have to die to keep.

return home.......2005-02-08
Devlin's Honor was not as good as the first book. It spent too much time having Devlin's and his group trying to find the sword of light to prove he was worthy of the chosen one. Hopefully, Devlin's Justice would be better by his arrival back to the kingsholm to bring justice to the kingdom.
Bogged Down.......2004-04-07
This book as not as good as it's predecessor. It's not a bad book, but it gets bogged down. We spent WAY too much time moping around, looking for the sword. It also took much too much time for it to occur to the characters that evil sorcery was a foot. Hopefully, the next book will move along at a better pace.
A fast, fun read.......2004-02-21
If you like traditional fantasy heroes (and I do), this book is a lot of fun. Book One of the Sword of Change established Devlin as the Champion and a hero. In this book, he quickly finds out that yesterday's heroes are, well, old news. The King, tired of making uncomfortable decisions, is no longer listening to him. The opposition starts a campaign to force him to find the Champion's sword, lost in Devlin's homeland for the last 50 years.
Once Devlin realizes that he has actually seen the lost sword in his master's workshop, his geas kicks in and forces him to find it. Along with his two boon companions, he returns to his homeland to find the sword as well as pieces of himself that he had long thought lost forever.
Devlin's Honor is written with a style that invites a quick read (it took me about 2.5 hours). Although the plot is pretty much a standard for the fantasy genre, the characterization is well done, and I found myself interested in the secondary characters as well as the protagonist. There were fewer fight scenes in this book than in the last, and some of the minor characters needed their personalities and motivations fleshed out a bit, but I would absolutely recommend this book for an afternoon of light reading.
A different battleground -- more sorcery than sword.......2003-11-18
The first book in this series is a traditional sword-and-sorcery style epic fantasy. Devlin knows of no problem that can't be solved by his axe ... or later, his sword. But this book takes his battles to a whole new level. He's not fighting the monsters outside, he's fighting the monsters within. In book #1, he blamed Haakon, the god of death, for taking his family but leaving him alive. In this book, he gets up close and personal with Haakon. He still wants to die ... but now he may very well take those he cares about most with him.
Devlin's Honor.......2003-10-29
Slooooooow reading. Lingers on and on. Extremely predictable. Big let down compared to the first book. Seems to be a trend with author's to continue a series without a true storyline in order to sell more books. Shame on you Patricia.

long-lost map (ulysses moore book).......2007-10-01
worth reading, a great book for kids up to 14 years old. The next 1 is already out and the next one is out 2008 may.
This Book Belongs in Your Library.......2007-03-06
The book: Ulysses Moore: The Lost Map was an excellent read and belongs on your book case. Its educational, exciting, and all about Egypt!
The story takes place in the land of punt: a forgotten Egyptian city lost in time. Ulysses Moore (the man who found this land before the children) is dead now and its up to recover the map of Kilmore Cove. It all starts when the kids walk into the chest and make a mess. Julia, and Rick are twins, and Jason is a young boy with a "devil tongue".
When they walk threw the door they find them selves in a humongous storage room. They hear tapping and all of the sudden the walls start crashing down and the boys are trapped in Punt, with there sister outside of the door! In the book before the children are trying to find a map and discover the secrets left behind by Ulysses. That book continued into this book. Now that the boys are in Punt they meet a young girl named Maruk. She will be there guide threw the Land of Punt. With only Mr. Moore's journal, they will find the map and hopefully return home safely.
I loved this book. If you like adventure, comedy, and even action this book is for you. The best thing about this book is that the author knows how to make the characters sound realistic and alive. Especially in the beginning they give us an "e-mail" from Michael Merryweather explaining that he found the second manuscript to the Ulysses Moore mystery. I find this amusing even though it isn't real, it makes you feel as if your becoming a detective yourself; solving the mystery, and watching as the children make there way through the Land of Punt.
I did not like this book because at the very end they continued to a different book. Honestly I would like to know the end of the story and if the bad guy gets away with it right now! I don't want to go out and buy the book and them read the whole thing just to see what happened!!!
I would recommend this book to anyone who is an aspiring Egyptologist, like me. I also would recommend this book to children over 10, because it has something that you might have to figure out in your head, or really think about it.

In 1988, readers of Fantasy and Science Fiction magazine were treated to a collaboration between Paul Di Filippo and Rudy Rucker called "Instability," in which Jack Kerouac and Neal Cassady were sent on a crash-course trajectory hurtling into John von Neumann and Richard Feynmann (a.k.a. "Doctor Miracle" and "Little Richard," portrayed as two wild and crazy "atomic wizards, quantum shamans, plutonium prophets, and be-boppin' A-bomb peeaitchdees"). Lost Pages brings "Instability" together with eight other Di Filippo stories that apply the what-if premise to writers' lives. You'll also find a hilarious introduction that credits a George Pal-produced Star Trek with the destruction of SF.
Di Filippo lets his imagination run wild, creating worlds in which Franz Kafka stalks the streets of nighttime Manhattan as a costumed avenger known as the Jackdaw, or in which Anne Frank, having been sent to live with relatives in America, becomes part of MGM's galaxy of stars. Science fiction writers such as Robert Heinlein, Alice (James Tiptree, Jr.) Sheldon, Alfred Bester, and Ted Sturgeon are given chances to save the world. In what turns out to be one of the most gimmicky and at the same time touching premises, Astounding Science Fiction is edited in its golden age by Joseph Campbell. Telling you any more would spoil the dozens of quirky surprises this collection has in store for you. --Ron Hogan

Writers in Control (Is this Really Good for the World?).......2004-08-10
Ever wished you could go back in time and change one crucial point in history? Ever thought what the world would be like if, say, Lincoln was not assassinated? This book is a compilation of what ifs where what is changed is the life of some famous writer.
The introduction, "What Killed Science Fiction" is an absolute hoot. Detailing the various things that went wrong with real science and the flops that Hollywood made, the fun is finding all the references to things as they are in our world, while it makes a perfect case for just how and why the dreams of science fiction died. And of course, this is a parody of "Who Killed Science Fiction" of SF fan fame.
The first story, "The Jackdaw's Last Case", is told in typical early 1900 style, with a large amount of description and flowery phrases, as it looks at Franz Kafka as a super-crime fighter. The story is somewhat slight, its interest is in the style and the odd situation, not quite coming off as a parody of the early scientifiction pulp stories.
"Anne" is bittersweet, following a very different life path for Anne Frank. Its conclusion is almost an acidic put down of Hollywood and the American dream.
"The Happy Valley at the End of the World" is, perhaps, the weakest story here, as we enter a world depopulated by a hemorrhagic plague, with a daredevil pilot convinced that H. G. Well's Wings Over the World is the blueprint for how to return the world (and fliers) to glory. Overly long and without much of either the humor or parody that suffuses most of the other stories.
"Mairzy Doats" is my favorite of this bunch, as we find Robert Heinlein, through an odd combination of circumstances (though highly believable - showing just how close to reality some of these alternate histories can be), as President of the United States, and mounting a manned mission to the moon. Heinlein is one of my favorite authors, but I could really appreciate just how well this story extrapolates some of Heinlein's political and social ideas to their extreme, deflating both the ideas and the man in a thoroughly delightful way.
"Campbell's World" is one that any science fiction fan can relate to, showing just what would have happened if Joseph Campbell, rather than John W. Campbell, became editor of Astounding magazine in 1938. The results are literally astounding.
"Instability", written with Rudy Rucker, is one I did not care for, probably because I've never cared for Kerouac, Cassady, Ginsburg and the other `Beats'. But as a story of the ultimate meeting of the Physicist with the Poet, it certainly belongs in this collection.
"World Wars III" is a nice little tale of the world as it would be without Einstein or any of the other physicists who made the A-bomb possible. The added charm of this one is the weird skewing of musical personalities, from the Beatles and Elvis Presley to Barry Sadler and Dionne Warwick.
Philip K. Dick married to Linda Ronstadt? "Linda and Phil" is a quiet tale of alternate realities that Dick (naturally) has to set right. Doesn't quite have the head-splitting wackiness of a Dick original, but good for a quick read.
"Alice, Alfie, Ted, and the Aliens" is one for science fiction aficionados only. The fun is catching who all the people are and which characterizations of them really fit the person. Alfred Bester doesn't come off so well here, but `Chip' Delany is marvelously satirized.
Most of these stories have a very strong `in-crowd' element - those who are not steeped in the world of fantastical literature may miss many of the sly, underhanded references scattered throughout. I've been reading this stuff for 45 years, and even so I have the suspicion that I missed a few of them. But there is some good parody, some biting social comment, and a good sense of style throughout these stories. Not perfect, and some of the stories are much weaker than the others, but a good light read, with an occasional laugh.

An unbelievably good alternate worlds collection.......2004-05-02
This is the finest work of original fiction that I have read in a decade or more. In fact, the whole time that I was reading this collection I kept asking myself how one writer could have come up with so many original, fresh ideas. Not only that, but the ideas are just so well fleshed out with humor, intelligence, and scholarship.
The overall theme of the book is alternate timelines and realities. In fact, Rudy Rucker, the mathematician famed for his popular explorations of alternate dimensions and universes, is co-author of one of the component tales. I just couldn't get over the plausibility, or in the case of my favorite story "Campbell's World", the desirability of some of these alternate realities. Indeed, if you are like me you will be amazed that so many of your favorite writers and literary figures have been woven into them with such intricate knowledge and believability.
First of all, the introduction is written from the perspective of a world where science fiction totally died out in the mid-60's. It really gets you to thinking what today's world might be like without the genre- or the imagination and belief in the future that fuels it.
The first tale explores a world where Franz Kafka escaped his existential despair by becoming a costumed crime-fighter in 1920's Manhattan.
The second deals with a world where Anne Frank escaped occupied Europe to replace Judy Garland in Hollywood after the latter's early and tragic death.
The third chronicles Antoine Saint-Exupery's (the Little Prince) desperate flight from a plague depopulated northern hemisphere to bring H.G. Well's vision of Wings Over the World to actual life in colonial Kenya.
The fourth demonstrates the natural outcome of a world where Robert Heinlein succeeds FDR as our first post-war president.
The fifth, my favorite, is a deeply thoughtful and moving tale of a world where the shaman Joseph Campbell decided not to teach at Sarah Lawrence, but went on to run "Astounding Stories" instead.
The sixth, written with Rudy Rucker, deals with a world where Burroughs, Kerouac, and Cassidy detect a profound imbalance in the dimensions and unite to rid the world of the H-Bomb and the monsters responsible for it.
The seventh tells of a time traveler from a future where WWIII is fought with nuclear weapons - who exterminates Einstein only to see WWIII fought out with conventional weapons instead.
The eight story tells of a hell-world where Rush Limbaugh is absolute dictator of the U.S. and Phillip K. Dick must cross over into an alternate reality to set things right.
Finally, the ninth tale envisions Theodore Sturgeon as the head of an alien-worshipping cult in San Francisco- where aliens have become an all too real reality.
I literally couldn't put this book down, and I haven't been able to get that worked up over a work of fiction in a long time.
A superb collection by one of SF's brightest lights.......1999-05-09
Paul Di Filippo is one of the best writers working in the genre today, and this collection proves it again. Highly recommended.

An appealing mix of action and solid characterization.......2001-09-18
Parents and children are encouraged to enjoy this 'read aloud' storybook together. Atlantis: The Lost Empire holds the classic Disney illustrations and a very lively plot parents will appreciate - an appealing mix of action and solid characterization for the very young as well as those with some basic reading skills.

Great Cover Nice Book.......2001-06-19
This is very good for a book of this type. I liked the way the story unfolded. It is well written but I wished that the pictures had more detail.
Quick "car read".......2001-06-16
My son wrote the following mini-review:
Young Milo Thatch sets out with a crew of people to find Atlantis. Their sub is downed by a gigantic metal crab. Escaping in sub-pods, the crew -- what's left of it -- makes camp. Milo stumbles into a cave, finding the entrance to the lost empire, Atlantis. Will Thatch live to tell the tale? Find out in this extraordinary book.
A great read for "junk entertainment." It moves right along; it's easy to read and enjoyable. I read it in less than a day. Its 14-point type makes this junior novelization of the Disney movie (released today) a great book for the car. For other books that fit this description, check out Episode I (kid's version), Titan AE (the junior novelization), and the Animorph series.
Atlantis.......2001-05-20
The Atlantis movie looks totally awesome! I can't wait to see it. I got the hardcover version of the book because I really wanted to see the movie. I was dissapointed at this book. It is bare bones writing with hardly any details. The pictures aren't that great ethier. The reason I gave this book 3 stars was because I liked the story line.I would not recomend this book unless you really want to see Atlantis.

For the ultimate Aha! Read this book!.......2007-06-06
What an incredible journey thru time and space. Orest Bedrij takes the unexplainable and explains it such that it's clear and understandable. His writing skills allow the neophyte to the most advanced seeker to answer the big questions of life, "What's it all about Alfie?"
Inspired by the divine, Orest Bedrij has carefully and thoroughly documented his work which includes all comparative religions, philosophy and science such; the student can source every aspect of the work. His writing style allows the reader to "see and feel" what the greatest minds from every walk of life from history had to say on the subjects, this cross fertizalation of ideas from different disciplines different periods of time all converge, validate and reinforce the simple yet "atomic bomb" in power, message - We are all one, divine and the magic key is love.
He bridges the potentially, "touchy feely" subject of religion and philosophy with hard science. That's all put in place from a physicist, whose work has been a critical ingredient to mans travel to space, and the creation of the computer, his impressive credentials from the world of science when applied to divinity transcends all that's ever been written. This book will stand the test of time, one of the greatest works ever on the subject. This book is a true break thru. To the seekers of self realization, it becomes not only understandable and totally acceptable but it provides you the keys to your own personal achievement.
Each piece of this work is a tapestry from the smallest insect to the most powerful man or woman on the earth each are equally important one to the other, the gift of unconditional love makes it all work.
Having known Orest Bedrij, which started in a working relationship some twenty plus years ago has endeared and expanded to a profound awe of his untouchable qualities of integrity, wisdom and love for all. His beauty is he has no bigotry, prejudice, or condemnation of man, religion or their beliefs. As there is no right or wrong per se because all paths lead to the source.
This book can change your life........2006-12-14
Transformational - that is the best way to describe this book! Mr. Bedrij skillfully integrates science and spirituality in a way that is readable and yet so uniquely complex in its very premise. That which I did not fully understand at first, planted itself in my consciousness and later blossomed forth in stunning insight. This book has had and continues to have a profound effect on my life. Thank you, Mr. Bedrij, for sharing your knowledge, wisdom and experience.

A work filled with rare treasures for the seeker.......2006-11-02
A very scholarly work with a wealth of relevant references that the author uses to emphasize his points.
His major message is that we are all divine beings and if we comprehended what that actually means it would transform our life and our world.
A couple of suggestions for readers:
1) Try reading it in very short bursts. Each chapter is divided into subsections which are a few pages long. Read one per sitting and then reflect on what you have read. See where the references lead you. It is a wonderful way to start and end your day.
2) When reading quotations, read them once skipping the author's parenthetical additions and then read them a second time with the author's additions. It is better to experience the quotes as originally written and then to see how the author relates them to the common theme.
Reading this work is time well spent. It is filled with rare treasures for those who take the time to search for them.
I love this man.......2006-07-04
Depth and knowledge, mixed with insight and sincerity. These are what Orest has, for years, used the "word" to relay the message of love to all humans, allover the world. Love is his life. More than anybody I have ever known,he always understood the pathways to love, which made him understand the pathway, or pathways of life, the importance of life, the value of humans and the divinity of man.
I do agree with this prophet's prophesies, or call it insight, that, unless we recognize our divinity, no divinity would save us from the misery we put ourselves in. Love is the master key. Love has pathways that the author recognizes, follows and incorporates in his subconscious as part of his awareness. We are grateful that he transmits the precious information to us.
An original contribution to the Infinite Splendor where Spirit and Mind Intersect.......2006-06-09
I cannot possibly do justice in describing this book written by the scientist who at age 29 created the formula used for the first soft landing on the moon. This time the author gives us a new formula that enables us to land within the reality of our divine inheritance and shows how this new identity will bring forth a civilization of great creativity and peace.
Bedrij is not speaking in metaphor about celebrating your divinity; he is speaking from the penetrating mind of a scientist when illuminated by spirit.
With quotations from the world's greatest thinkers, each chapter contributes to the realization of ultimate reality. Physics meets and merges with philosophy to produce the "final law" in physics developed and presented clearly and convincingly.
In spite of the author's tremendous struggle to survive as a child under Communist and Nazi tyranny, there is only compassion for those who were so widely separated from God. Each chapter leads toward a new Self identity through recognition of the One Self in all of us - and the God in every heart.
The original ideas and ageless wisdom here will lift the spirit and inspire the mind. I highly recommend Celebrating Your Divinity.
