Product Description
Combining his knowledge of weightlifting, strength training, and martial arts with a solid foundation of philosophy, Richard Walters sets out to right wrongs and foil evildoers as The NinJew, an exceptional Jewish warrior.
In this exciting half-biography, half-fictional account, Richard Walters spins a compelling tale of foiling a complex plan of terrorist actions in his native Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and neighboring Youngstown, Ohio, with his strength-training and clean-living sidekick and student, Barry. As they pursue their goals of healthy eating and weight training, Mr. Walters provides guidance, tips, and suggestions to the reader to achieve total fitness, including a sound diet and strength-training instructions. Their constant vigilance about their abilities stand them in good stead when they find themselves confronting the most evil terrorist in the history of mankind, one who is determined to exterminate Jews from the face of the earth and wreak havoc on the population of America in the process.
Skillfully weaving his invaluable knowledge of diet and exercise as part of a life planned along with philosophy and a flair for the dramatic, Mr. Walters has penned an entertaining and educational look at the life of an average man with awesome abilities who is determined to be a champion for freedom and justice.

Honestly, I am baffled........2006-10-02
The NinJew is billed as "Philosophy - Spirituality - Humor - Action - Adventure." It is a self-published 84-page paperback which jumps wildly from an adventure tale to a workout guide to a nutrition workbook. The text is accompanied by low resolution black and white images of the use of gymnasium equipment and the real-life adventures of the NinJew. Author Richard Walters has promoted his book via a campaign of [...] Friend Requests.
The workout and nutritional information are well-founded and easy to follow, but there are plenty of easier-to-use books on the market. The adventure is just weird beyond belief, and the text is smattered with references to G-d and his great Omnimax theater. If you in author Richard Walters's inner circle of friends and family, this is probably a wickedly funny book, but as an outsider, well, I am just baffled. This appears to be a fun gag and nothing more.
"Ever wonder why we meet certain people?" (opening line, pg. 1).......2006-09-15
I did not sense the irony of that question until I finished page 84 of Richard Walters' "The NinJew". It was then that I realized how much I had taken away from this reading experience; how an author's request that I might read and review his practical and humorous memoir would somehow affect me so deeply... To explain this effect, I'll start with what remains vivid in my mind first... the grand finale of the book:
"DON'T MESS WITH D'JEWS!" (pg. 84)
This exuberant and emphatic declaration ends the story but begins my review...
I enjoyed the twist of the storyline from semi non-fiction to semi-fiction in the last one third of the book. Walters' tale mildly reminded me of the books I have greatly enjoyed by the Christian author, Frank Peretti. For being his first foray into writing a book, especially one that is a hybrid of genres and encapsulates a varied content, Walters does a remarkable job keeping his reader alternately enthralled and on the edge of one's seat! He uses just enough fantastic imagery to lose the reader in a surrealistic atmosphere of the espionage capers of a Jewish warrior and his Jewish sidekick while drawing on the everyday knowledge that we are truely faced with the very real dangers of terrorism, not only here in the United States but abroad as well.
Walters engages us with tidbits of his familial history by way of relating stories to his wife Marsha and/or sidekick Buddy as a way of entertaining distraction or encouragement. He creates images of days gone by in Pittsburgh, his hometown; days when his father was growing up in "a smoky, dirty, steel mill town" and coal was the source used for heating their homes. Days when hearing "hucksters" call out "Apples for Sale!" was common and his father watched other boys lose every hard-earned penny they'd made shooting craps. A lesson of "gamblers never win" was passed down to his son who later learned that Jewish law frowns on gambling. In turn, Walters and his wife made a conscious decision together to learn more about Judaism for the sake of their children. It was this decision that remains evident throughout this story of "The NinJew". (pg. 55)
"Because of his [Rabbi Moshe Weingarten] teachings, we were inspired to a new way of life. I AM STILL FAR FROM PERFECT. At least, though, I have a Lighthouse to guide me when I am lost at sea." (pg. 55)
Walters' dedication to his Faith plays an innate role in not only his day to day home and spiritual life but also in his calling to share with others the vital importance of clean living and taking proper care of the bodies God has given us. He guides us through the setting and meeting of goals of healthy eating and strength training as he teaches them to his student Barry (who also doubles as Walters' sidekick as the story rolls on).
He provides a brief step by step instructional for strength training coupled with his magic formula called "Sixty-Thirty-Ten-M-S". He outlines how to apply the formula starting on page 21 and does a wonderful job explaining the process complete with examples as well as some philosophical and intellectual support from noted sources.
In my own newborn quest to find my way to healthy living and personal fitness, I find "The NinJew" to be a treasure trove of solid advice and support settled in a practical bed of knowledge. The road to revelation is embellished with bits and pieces of the life and times of a modern day Jewish warrior: Richard Walters by day and "The NinJew" by night...
I'm please to make your acquaintance!

GREAT READ!!.......2005-12-26
"The Ninjew" delivers on multiple levels. The storyline is exciting, engaging, and thought provoking. The main characters are admirable and reflect the type of person that we should all strive to become. The Ninjew is not just an entertaining read, but an informative one as well. After finishing the book, the reader can always refer back to it for the wealth of real-world fitness and weight training knowledge that it provides.

REVIEWED BY IAN HEISS
Rich Walters has written a first of a kind exercise book. I think he has
created a new genre. This book starts out as a fitness and exercise book, with
sound exercises and good illustrative photography. Rich also offers a healthy
diet regime, a balanced food intake to help us to nourish the new bodies we are
building.
Unlike most workout books, Rich introduces us to the idea that we should
have a good profile towards our spiritual being, and through a combination of
anecdotes and narrative, explains that a healthy mind and spirit complement and
enable a healthy body. It is refreshing to entertain the concept that physical
development goes hand in hand with that of the mind and the spirit.
We are then made privy to the fact that the author is a practitioner of the
martial arts and skills of the Ninja.
In effect this makes Rich Walters the world's first Ninjew. This book now
transforms into an adventure book in a method akin to a murder mystery cookbook
before our eyes. Rich and his student are in pursuit of a nasty group of
villains protected only by their martial skills and the dark night.
By the end of the book, you may have a structure for developing body
strength, muscle tone, and diet. You will be on the edge of your seat till the
last page. At that point you have exercised no other part of your body, you will
have exercised your mind.
Highly Recommended.......2005-11-25
***** Five Stars in my opinion. Started reading the book and couldn't wait till I had finished it. Packed with excitement, suspense and excellent information. I highly recommend Rich's book.

Book Description
Once upon a time, fairy tales
were for children . . . But no longer.
You hold in your hands a volume of wonders -- magical tales of trolls and ogres, of bewitched princesses and kingdoms accursed, penned by some of the most acclaimed fantasists of our day. But these are not bedtime stories designed to usher an innocent child gently into a realm of dreams. These are stories that bite -- lush and erotic, often dark and disturbing mystical journeys through a phantasmagoric landscape of distinctly adult sensibilities . . . where there is no such thing as "happily ever after."

not for the faint hearted.......2006-09-16
I am dissapointed but not surprised at the bad reviews for this book and for the all the fairy tale collections compiled by Ellen Datlow. These are not fairy tales with "fairies". If you're expecting a dirty version of Cinderella look elsewhere. Many of these stories are about present times, real people, and current situations. Child abuse, molestation, rape, obesity, murder, slavery. These are the things the Ellen Datlow collections are comprised of. Most of these stories are not "light fare". They are deep and sometimes bloody, even when there is no blood to be seen. They are indeed fairytales though because the exist in the half-light time where horror exist simultaneously with beauty. The part of the car crash that is like a flower in bloom. If you like "The Bloody Chamber" you'll like these. If your looking for fairies, rent Disney.
On the dark side.......2006-01-11
I was rather amuzed by the different plots and endings given to the well-known tales that we learned as children. These tales are not intended for those who like the "happily ever after" stories but instead for those who opt for the darker side of things not usually discussed and expected. If you like romantic tales that have a predictably happy ending and make you smile and say "awww - how sweet"....these stories are not for you!
Very Disappointing.......2005-10-04
I adore anything that even comes close to being a retelling of one of my beloved fairytales. Silly, sentimental...I don't care I just love fairytales. I eagerly picked this book up at the library for a little light reading between exams and papers. Boy, was I disappointed! I felt horrid reading this stuff. I just could not finish it. I'm sorry, but I do not find it entertaining in the least to read about adults lusting after children...a theme found in several of the stories. Sleeping with the mother while attempting to seduce the young daughter. Feeling up a child who is clinging to you because she is afraid of the woods. Raping children!!!! This book makes me sad. I only gave it one star because I had to.
It's very good, but..........2005-05-21
I really think that Ruby Slippers, Golden Tears was better. I can't wait to read the other books, and decide which one is best.
Fairy Tales were not always intended for children!.......2005-05-04
I love that people think because of Disney and the Brothers Grimm think that fairy tales are for children.
Sorry, Ding thank you for playing.
The original tales..Loooong before Disney and the Brothers Grimm were brutal and nasty tales told to adults in most cases. And when they were told to children we are not talking modern children who live in nice safe comfy condos and apartments but children who lived in cottages with wild woods and forests near by. Where the world was totally different place. Where girls became women much sooner than we do today.Read the original Arabian Nights that will show you some of what I mean.
Why do I go on about this? Because these anthologies take what was raw and frightening about the orignal tales and attempt to bring that feeling back in the only way modern minds can comprehend.
Do they succeed? Not always, but many many of these tale are beautiful. I've collected these antholgies since they began and I love them for the way they do not hold back. Much like the single shot novels that have been coming out by many of these writers they are trying for something new and old in the same pages.
Yes Disney is fun but to say these books have destroyed your childhood memories or complain that they wanted their classic tales unsullied..sorry gang, your classic tales are not the originals and honestly when I want the "classic" versions I read those..why repeat something already done?
This book and the other antholigies are brilliant, alive, dark, distrubing and not always successful but when they are they are simply breathtaking!

Book Description
The creator of Conan looks to the stars in one of fantasy's most enduring science fantasy classics! Robert E. Howard's Almuric is a savage planet of crumbling stone ruins and debased, near-human inhabitants. Into this world comes Esau Cairn, Earthman, swordsman, murderer. Only he can overthrow the terrible devils that enslave Almuric, but to do so he must first defeat the inner demons that forced him to abandon Earth. Filled with vile beasts and thrilling adventure in the tradition of Edgar Rice Burroughs, Almuric is one of Howard's few novels, and an excellent yarn from one of America's most distinct literary voices.
Customer Reviews:
Derivative and Very Average, But Still Entertaining.......2004-01-22
Robert E. Howard remains one of my favorite authors and it remains one of the great tragedies in literature that he killed himself at such a young age. I've read the bulk of his work and love most of it, but even REH can produce a stinker or two. He also occasionally could be highly derivative and average, particularly when he was writing outside the area of fantasy.
Unfortunately, "Almuric" is one of those derivative, average works, even though it is essentially a sci fi-fantasy tale. It also holds the distinction of being his only true novel, even though he did produce a few other novel length works, notably "The Hour of the Dragon" (a/k/a "Conan the Conqueror").
Now, I realize I'm in the minority on this opinion, and I think if you check my other reviews of REH's work you'll find I'm definitely not a Howard-hater. I truly love most of the man's work. Heck, as a kid he inspired nearly everything I wrote and, yes, as a kid I ripped him off a lot!
But throughout this work I kept thinking of Edgar Rice Burroughs' "John Carter of Mars" series and found this book to be a rehash of a lot of Burroughs' work. To it's credit, the novel is still entertaining and interesting. And, hey, on his worst day REH was still a superior writer to 90 percent of other writers, particularly the hacks who haunt the fantasy and science fiction shelves these days.
So I do recommend it, just be forewarned that if you've read any of the "John Carter" books, there may be a slight sense of déjà vu.
Great Book.......2000-03-30
This is a great story. The plot is excellent and the climax is really gripping. The imagery REH uses is really awesome. He has a lot of good stories and this one is one of his finest.
Quickest read I ever had!.......1999-02-11
Almuric is one of the best fantasy stories ever written by Robert E. Howard. It is also one of the few full length fantasy novels he wrote, most of his stories were shorts for pulp magazines of his time.
The story is set on a distant world, Almuric, where a human from earth takes refuge. He braves the hardships of this new world and has many dealings with its peoples and races.
At around 250 pages, I recommend all lovers of fantasy to pick this one up!

Good Adaptation of an Average Book.......2004-01-23
"Almuric" was Robert E. Howard's only true novel, yet it is in many ways one of his lesser works. It's very derivative of Edgar Rice Burroughs and his "John Carter of Mars" series.
That being said, no one more faithfully adapts REH's work than Roy Thomas, and Tim Conrad is a top notch illustrator. If your interests run to sci fi/fantasy graphic novels, this is a book you'll want to add to your collection. Just be forewarned: if you love REH's Conan, you may not find this to be up the level of the Conan tales.

A Powerful Testimony and Challenge.......2007-03-10
This woman's story is amazing. It's also so exciting I read it through in two sittings. Uncertainty, fear, waiting on the Lord for an answer - it's all part of her story - as well as her example of boldness for Christ, no matter the cost.
It's also reveals first hand, how Islam is actually practiced in Iranian homes.
Insight into former Muslim's life.......2007-01-10
This book gave me insight into the Muslim religion. Ms. Nevisa is a very courageous woman. It's a miracle indeed for her, her father & mother to convert to Christianity. The story is amazing. You can see the hand of God in this. Some may not agree and that's fine - it's all about God's leading and finding Jesus.
Highly recommended. .......2006-09-06
The cold, hard, sad truth about today's world order of things is that Christianity is declining under torrents of assaults from seemingly endless sources such as the ACLU, the world major news media, Hollywood, the UN, liberalism and countless other sources, while Islam is given a free pass and the rest of world is encouraged to accept and even welcome this so-called "religion of peace." Society is either blinded or ignorant of the fact that non-Muslims are considered infidels and the Islamic faith teaches that murdering infidels is rewarded in heaven. Meanwhile, Christianity, which is tolerant of those who do not know God's word and seeks to evangelize them rather than murder them, is ridiculed from every corner.
This is precisely what MIRACLE OF MIRACLES is about. When a young upper class Iranian couple reject the doctrine of Mohamed and turn their lives to Jesus Christ, they must survive long enough to escape Iran and the Muslim world and the religion of peace before they are murdered for their "sins" of infidelity. This is the true story of what this couple endured to make it to America where they would be allowed, for now at least, to worship Christ freely and openly.
This book is exceptionally well written and is what many would classify as a real "page-turner", but it does have a major flaw where Christianity is concerned. While relatively new to the Christian faith, perhaps the author, Mina Nevisa, is unaware of the Doctrine of Dispensations. We live in the Church Age and Jesus no longer makes personal appearances. That hasn't happened since the completion of the Canon of Scripture. We won't see Him again until the rapture, despite what countless televangelists would have us believe. Nevisa's story does try to convince the reader that her father also converted to Christianity only after being visited by Jesus Christ. Praise God that this girl's father is now a Christian, and if he believes that Christ personally appeared to him, then so be it, but we're a couple of thousand years too late for that and the last time I checked, the rapture hasn't occured yet. Nonetheless, this is an exceptional read that you will surely enjoy and that should open the eyes of those too blind to see the truth.

True Story; Insights on Islam.......2006-08-22
This book is excellent. It is a true story about a woman raised in an affluent home in Iran and raised by a strong fundamentalist Islamic family. She stumbles on a Bible and this is her story of how she is transformed, gives her life to Christ, then has to flee for her life for having a different faith.
True Inspiration.......2006-04-05
This book is an account of a brave woman who was called by God in a country where there is no freedom of religion. She found a bible one day and although it was against everything she had been taught and the law, she read the Word and it changed her. Her story inspired me to come out as a true Christian. I was shamed into it because what she did was so brave. We live in a free country but we do not appreciate our freedom. She narrowly escaped death and she suffered brutal torture and the shunning of her family in Iran but it could not kill her faith. It was very inspiring and I would recommend this book to anyone struggling with their faith. God bless and protect her and all of her family and may she continue to enlighten others by her testimony.
