Great book.......2005-02-22
This book is amazing! You should read the whole series. You will not regret it.
What a great book!.......2004-08-26
TO THE GATES OF PALANTHAS was a great book! I have already read the adult version of this book, it is also the original, and this book brings out the true beauty of the DRAGONLANCE series! Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman made a great decision in creating children versions of the book!
The authors are really great at making you wonder about certain events that could happen. They keep you on the edge of your seat. This book is really exciting, I had trouble putting it down and doing something else.
The characters are described very well, making the book even better to read. The authors really showed the personality that makes each character different.
The main part of this book is the war that rages on in the North of the continent. The story leads us to the fortress city of Palanthas. The battle is so intense, im on the edge of my seat the whole time!! There is so much action! It's incredible!
Not all the characters are in Palanthas though, so we get to explore a big amount of the world of Krynn. There is so much beauty on the continent that is all being destroyed. The authors portray the time as a time that could come crashing down and destroying everything.
My favourite part of the book would have to be when the Dragon High Lord fights against her old friend. There is a lot of emotion within that battle, as short as it may be. Sturm, the Kngiht she is fighting, shows anger and hate.
The most dissapointing part of the book was when Sturm di...., I won't spoil it for you.
Another thing I like about the book is that Laurana, the elf, becomes the general of the army of Palanthas. The authors show how powerful and intelligent she actually was, something I wasn't very sure about before.
A great book! A must have if you are a DRAGONLANCE fan.

One more to go in an enjoyable series.......2004-02-27
At first, I thought this was the last book of series; but there is one more, supposedly the last. Good! Don't run it into the ground, six is enough! This book is enjoyable as it's predecessors. This time, we get a bit of the X-Files inserted into a traditional fantasy. Mr. Anthony is so derivative, it actually becomes a sort of originality with him. The deeply flawed main characters are also refreshing: Travis is not all that smart, but he's kind and sweet. He is in way over his head, with a love triangle, and an ominous corporate entity to subvert. Grace is not all that nice, but she's very intelligent. She is written from her own perspective ("a skinny witch"), which makes her intriguing. She doesn't understand her own power, or her appeal. A reluctant heroine who has to save the world from the Pale King! I am glad that the ultra derivative characters of Falkan the Bard, and Melia did not get as much play as in the previous novels. They aren't as interesting as the other supporting cast members. It's also good to see the comic book character Vani develop a little--in more ways than one. A fun read, if you're in the mood for something fun, with lots of action.
GOOD CONTINUATION OF THE SERIES.......2003-09-23
THE GATES OF WINTER is the fifth book in Mr. Anthony's LAST RUNE series. Usually in theses extended series' the story line becomes repetitive or the action becomes so ludicrous (yes I know were talking about a book of magic, believe me even given the existence of magic a storyline can become ridicules) by the fifth book that hope and pray for this one to be the last one. Luckily for us GATES OF WINTER hasn't reached that point, in fact the story line is just as fresh and interesting as the first of the RUNE books.
Although the cast of characters is vast Mr. Anthony does a good job of keeping the story well paced without overly simplifying it to inconsequential nothingness. While it is true that many characters do experience some development here, some are even developed into nothing, this close to the end the story is the overriding factor in propelling them forward. Although I must admit one of the main characters, Travis, seems to not have developed a bit from the first book to this latest. If you were expecting more from his character, keep waiting, maybe in the next one.
The next installment, THE FIRST STONE, is due out next year and is supposed to be the conclusion. Hopefully it will be. Unlike many other series LAST RUNE has not yet overstayed it's welcome, but it is a very close thing. All I can say is I am still looking forward to the last one and it can't be all bad if it leaves you wanting more.
This one is RECOMMENDED.
The Final Battle.......2003-08-05
The Gates of Winter is the fifth novel in The Last Rune series, following Blood of Mystery. In the previous volume, Travis, Durge, Lirith and Sareth have been hurled into the past of Earth, but return to Eldh to reach the Black Tower and then come forward through time to their proper milieu. Grace, Beltan, Vani, and Falken also travel to the Black Tower, at first in the White Ship and then by foot. All find the tower aswarm with feydrim and each witnesses a large man in black stabbing the mysterious messenger Sky, taking a runestone from Sky's robes, and then vanishing through a wall of the tower. Shortly thereafter, Tira appears on the tower doorstep with Krondisar, the Stone of Fire, and presents it to Travis, the Runebreaker.
In this novel, Master Larad -- runespeaker, outcast, traitor -- meets with Shemal and is given the power to break runes. Deidre Falling Hawk and Hadrian Farr are welcomed back by the Seekers and promoted, but Farr subsequently disappears on a mission of his own. Grace, Durge, Travis, Beltan, Vani, Falken, Lirith and Sareth return to Calavere, still accompanied by the little girl -- and goddess -- Tira. Grace and her party are greeted by explosions that destroy two towers and open a large breech in the wall. Apparently Duratek has reached Calavere before them.
The time of conflict is nearly upon them. King Boreas calls the Warriors of Vathris to muster and to follow Grace, heir of King Uther and holder of Fellring reforged, in the Final Battle against the minions of the Pale King. The witches begin to gather to oppose the Warriors, but some covens pledge themselves to Grace and thus to support the Runebreaker. Travis feels that he would be more effective opposing Duratek's efforts to bridge the gap between the worlds and returns to Denver with his Stones to look for, and destroy, their gate.
This novel brings Grace to a confrontation with her heritage as she faces the Pale King. It also brings Travis to a realization of his role as the Runebreaker. However, it is not the end of the story, for The First Stone has yet to come.
Highly recommended for Anthony fans and anyone else who enjoys complex tales of sword and sorcery.
exciting swords and sorcery tale.......2003-08-03
War is coming to the medieval world of Eldh, a place where people fight using swords and magic. Mohg, Lord of Nightfall, plans to remake his home planet in his image. His minion, the Pale King toils at opening the Rune Gate so that his hordes can sweep through and prepare it for Mohg's return. Mohg and the Pale King also work with Duratek on Earth to open a portal to Eldh so that Mohg can return and the corporation can exploit the wealth of Eldh.
Runebreaker Travis Wilder travels to Earth to destroy Duratek and the gate. According to the prophecy, Travis will save and destroy Eldh at the last battle. His friend, Grace Beckett, witch queen of an ancient lineage marches to the Gravenfist Keep with five hundred warriors and a coven of witches. They must hold back the hordes of the Pale King if he opens the Rune Gate until the Warriors of Vathris arrive for the last battle. If Travis, Grace, the warriors and witches work together they might defeat the dark forces that threaten Eldh.
Book five in "The Last Rune" series is an exciting swords and sorcery tale in the tradition of the Lord of the Rings and The Sword of Shannara trilogies. The villains in THE GATES OF WINTER are really caricatures of evil, but the heroes are fully developed people that will endear themselves to the reader. Fans of the series or epic fantasy will enjoy this tale and look forward to book six, THE FIRST STONE in which readers will finally learn what is the secret connection that ties Earth with Eldh.

Buy the Illustrated Guide to Snowboarding instead........2000-12-06
This book is decent, but the Illustrated Guide to Snowboarding is a much more in-depth and well written book. It is also more entertaining with funny drawings and tips. This book really only skims the surface on all the areas you need to start snowboarding.
(no title).......2000-11-18
This book is great for begginers and also explains advanced tricks and techniques like methods, spins, cliff drops, carving and explains a little about racing and competative snowboarding. It also gives you usefull info like what to eat before you go, warm-ups, getting on and off chairlifts, ect.
Snowboarding at it purest.......1999-12-10
I really got alot out of this book, if you want to save yourself a beating on the run's this is for you!
The book was great........1999-12-09
I really liked the book The Complete Snowboarder. It is full of a lot of useful information on how to get started snowboarding. It explains not only the basics but also how to do tricks. I would recommend this book to anyone who has even the slightest interest in snowboarding because once they read it they won't be able to wait for the snow to fall.
Great Learn-How-to-Board Book!.......1997-02-28
Great introduction to snowboarding. Provides all the language and techniques, from beginner to expert. It works best to reread it again after a few times out as you will pick up on many of the tips and techniques once you learn how the basic moves feel. I kept my copy in the car and reread some sections over lunch on my first day. Especially important to read the section on getting off of the chair lift. This has saved me from many falls, while I have watched others flounder and get injured for not following the advice.Still need to take a lesson first time out, but it will all make sense alot sooner.

In
Babylon Rising Tim LaHaye began an adventure series that he calls even more exciting than his 50-million-plus-copy bestselling Left Behind series. Readers agreed, as the novel debuted as a top-ten New York Times bestseller.
Now, in the second Babylon Rising novel, Biblical scholar, archaeologist, professor, and hero for our times Michael Murphy is in pursuit of one of the most mysterious and sought-after of all Biblical artifacts, Noah’s Ark. As Murphy undertakes his death-defying quest to ascend Mount Ararat, he will discover dramatic revelations of Biblical prophecies and be drawn even closer to the most terrifying evil about to be unleashed on all mankind.
With
The Secret on Ararat following close on the heels of Glorious Appearing, the fastest-selling Left Behind novel ever, Tim LaHaye will further prove to be one of the most fascinating and popular storytellers of our time.
Customer Reviews:
Tim Lahaye book series.......2007-09-08
I ordered and received in excellent time all 4 of Tim Lahaye books. All were received at the very best price and in excellent condition.
Cartoonish.......2007-05-15
This is an entertaining light read for teens, with a very superficial "good guys vs. bad guys" kind of plot. The villians are all evil mustache-twirling types who threaten puppies, have an affinity for red lighting, and sneer at people. (They reminded me of Klingons.)
Along the way, the hero gets to deliver lectures and monologues on various Christian topics such as the folly of evolution, etc. On repeated occasions, people come to him with their problems, and he delivers a word or two of advice from the Bible to make their troubles instantly vanish. Those who question the hero are easily refuted and left sputtering with no response. The whole thing is a series of softballs and straw men to make the hero seem even more "good." There's not a lot of depth to the characters to engage the reader.
There is also a lot of violence in the book, many characters are shot at, pummeled, trapped, threatened, killed, etc. in various ways. While the good guys have to spend weeks climbing Mount Ararat, setting up three base camps, packing in supplies, and dealing with crevasses, avalanches, slipped ropes, weather, etc. along the way, somehow the villian is able to show up right at the critical moment on the summit - how did HE get there? (Perhaps he is a supernatural being?) Fortunately several of the characters who die manage to accept Christ just before they are killed - so it's not so bad...
Like I said, in my opinion this is light, simplistic entertainment for teens, there are a lot of Bible lessons and admonitions presented in a thinly-veiled series of sermons. But for adults, this is shallow reading.
Disappointed........2007-02-10
Where "Babylon Rising" actually inspired me to pick a Bible and read the to Book of Daniel this book didn't inspire me to read my Bible at all. The story was okay but tended to get bogged down with the side stories about the relationship issues among supporting characters. I look forward to the next book but hope that it will inspire me more.
Babylon Rising: The Secret on Ararat.......2007-01-19
Well crafted story! Hope the author continues with more adventures for the main character!!
Wonderful, Wonderful, Wonderful...........2006-11-05
This book was well....Wonderful! I picked it up on a Thursday and finished reading it the very next day. I was very disappointed when it ended. This book came alive to me and I felt that I was actually there with the fictional characters, and the Non-fictional characters (Noah and his family while on the ark). Lahaye did an absolutley wonderful job. I enjoyed the Left Behind series, (even though it is not scriptually correct in the most important area of getting saved after the rapture after you have already denied Christ)But this series is alot more captivating to me. I highly recommend this book!
