MUST READ.......2007-06-14
This book simply must be read. After being force fed animal farm in highschool, this is just what the doctor ordered. Oh, and it's damn funny.
Good work Mr. Reed
Where do Snowballs go.......?.......2007-06-12
Snowball turns up again years after the Animal Farm debacle . Reed's bristling animal characters weave a symphony of ironies. We surrender ourselves to the unwinding economic distopia. Exciting reading.
strong satire of a strong satire turning Orwell on his head.......2005-01-15
After being exiled from Animal Farm, a contrite Snowball returns insisting that he learned his lesson of excess and abuse of power and will harm no one. He slowly begins his means of taking over through "democratic" processes by promising if elected in charge he will reform the farm so that the animals will have plenty of pie and the stables will be heated and well lighted. No one will want under his enlightened leadership.
Snowball's reform succeeds so that newcomers from the surrounding areas begin to flock to Animal Farm for a taste of the good life. These refugees are given the jobs none of the old-timers want to do and live in the oldest dilapidated barns. The original loyal followers of Snowball move into choice property outside the crime ridden center. Snowball continues to expand Animal Farm bringing prosperity to his inner circle.
Winning a court case, Snowball gains control of the water rights. This leaves the Beavers with nothing but anger and frustration that leads to counterinsurgency with an opportunity to a better afterlife if they die for the cause of freeing the beaver woods.
John Reed provides an intriguing ironic follow-up to George Orwell's superb satirical personification of communism by applying the same cast to the personification of capitalism. Some diehard Orwellian fans will loathe what might seem as an assault on the author, but this reviewer believes that Mr. Orwell on THE WHOLE would have done something similar if he lived today. Mindful of a Jay Ward Fractured Fairy Tale involving Sleeping Beauty, SNOWBALL'S CHANCE is a strong satire of a strong satire turning Orwell on his head.

Parody and Homage in one work..........2004-05-18
This was a book that was placed on the required reading list of my college English class, along with Orwell's Animal Farm. I found it an incredibly intriguing piece that both capitalized (no pun intended) on the uniqueness of Orwell's writing style (paranthetical phrases, etc) and pokes fun at it (there are quite a few silly songs and poems that the animals make up).
I think that it can be viewed from many different angles, especially if you see their Ferris Wheel as the Pentagon...think about it.
My report.......2003-10-04
This book was on a reading list for school, and I read it over the summer. I just got to give a talk about it, and it really surpirsed my teacher. I liked that the class got so excited about it. We got sorted into two camps right away, and things got really loud. And that was really great.

Best Book Out There!.......2007-01-17
This book really helped me get back on track as I walk the Path towards Christ. Mr.Tedesco writes in such a way that you can't put the book down. If you like C.S. Lewis's "Mere Christianity" you will definitely appreciate "Snowballs Taking Chances."

Customer Reviews:
fabulous laughing out loud book.......1998-07-27
I read this book and yes, I admit that the book had quite a few typographical errors...but I thought that it was wonderful. I was so surprised to find that she (Holly Fuhrmann) was a first time author. I have recently discovered that she has a second book coming out in August from the Precious Gems publisher that can be found in WalMart. I highly recommed this book because of the wonderful dialouge and the humorous antics of the heroine.
SNOWBALL'S CHANCE is the BEST!.......1998-06-21
Holly Fuhrmann is an author to watch as she rises up the ladder of romantic fiction. Her story and characters are laugh-out-loud funny. SNOWBALL'S CHANCE is a keeper in the first degree. Found out she has a Precious Gems coming out in August 1998. Can't wait for another chance to read my new favorite author, Holly Fuhrmann! Recommended by: Bonnie Tucker
A contempoary romance with a surprise ending.......1998-06-17
The characters are well developed for such a short book. The reader is emotionally drawn into the story, and the ending is unique.
Poddy is as wild as her name!.......1998-05-20
Poddy was named after a character in her mother's favorite science fiction books. However, the name fits her well. Poddy's brother pushed her out of her secluded shell and into life. Her "content" days as a school teacher were over. Enter the three Murdoch brothers. Poddy went to Sam's office to make him see that his daughter was growing up without him. I loved watching Poddy stand up to Sam. Poddy forces him to see his life as it really was and he ends up spending much more time with things that are important...like his daughter. Sam and Poddy come to love each other like family, but they were not "in" love. Best friends would have to do. Scott is Sam's twin brother. A man who does not believe in romance or love. His wife left him for his last brother, Luke. She had driven a wedge between brothers even though she left the both, so as not to break up the love of brothers. Poddy, in her own wild way, make Scott and Luke see that love and "happily ever after endings" really do exist. ***I fell in love with Poddy. She still has Sam and her own brother, PD, to match up. (Oh, let there be another book for them!) In my opinion, the book had too many typographical errors, but this story is too good to miss!***
A Snowball's Chance was wonderful!.......1998-04-24
Holly Fuhrmann is an author I'll be watching for - I have a feeling she'll go far.

Book Description
So, you've read all the latest books on prophecy, and you know what to expect in the future. Are you really sure about that? Will Russia really invade Israel before the rapture occurs? Will those who have repeatedly rejected Christ before the rapture really be able to accept Him and be saved afterwards? Will the tribulation really begin with the signing of a peace treaty between Israel and its Arab neighbors? Will the first half of the tribulation really be three and a half years of relative peace, and the second half, three and a half years of intense suffering? Will the newly saved believers really be able to outsmart and outmaneuver the Antichrist during the tribulation? Answers to these and other probing questions are addressed in this fast-paced and absorbing novel. A Snowball's Chance reveals how the lives of young college athletes become embroiled in greed, treachery, robbery, and murder. Their situation becomes even more impossible as they try to cover their tracks and avoid the consequences of their actions. A thrown-together Bible study, taught by an ex-con turned preacher, offers them hope of forgiveness and new life in Christ. But are they willing to pay the price? And will they have enough time to decide before God's time clock ticks down to the rapture of the church and their door of opportunity closes forever?
Customer Reviews:
A very inspirational novel.......2005-08-18
I enjoyed reading the novel. The characters were believable and it was easy to get involved in thier drama/troubles. The book contained several biblical scriptures to reference and the appendix was wonderful. I would recommend this book to anyone!
Thrilling View of Biblical Rapture.......2003-11-14
Ted Duncan really captures you from the beginning in this depiction of life leading up to the rapture of the Church. He sets your emotions in high gear with adventure, betrayal and even a love story. You will find yourself so involved with the characters that you feel a part of their story. If this could be set into a motion picture, wow.
Unlike the "Left Behind" series, it offers more explanation into what the Bible actually says and it covers more than one week in the lives of the characters before the next book. Hopefully it won't be overshadowed by that long series. Duncan really has hit a homerun and can back it up with the extended appendix.
If you want to experience more than a book, buy "A Snowball's Chance."

Customer Reviews:
Truly Ed Greenwood, for better and for worse........2005-09-14
While Best of the Realms Book II contains some interesting tales, it is mostly for fans of both the Forgotten Realms and Ed Greenwood's writing. Where the stories themselves are intriguing, a casual reader may quickly and easily find themselves lost due to Realms concepts and terminologies which are not explained. This is compounded by Greenwood's writing style which is excessively fanciful, with adjectives and adverbs used recklessly with every turn of phrase. While Greenwood is far from a bad author, neither is he easy to digest.
Authoring aside, the short stories themselves differ greatly in theme and genre. This is refreshing and is exactly what I like in an anthology. Sadly, as is Greenwood's penchant, several stories seem written solely to spotlight the characters he created, most notably Elminster and Storm. Other than examples in character study, these particular tales fall deathly short on substance. Luckily, Ed Greenwood has the whole of the Realms to write about and this is where his stories truly shine.
The best reason of all to read this book is Ed Greenwood's new tale 'The Long Road Home' which gives us a glimpse at the rough times the kingdom of Cormyr went through after the fall of it's beloved King Azoun IV. As a fan of the Realms, I found the subject inticing and the story was one of the few I felt real satisfaction after having read. It is also one of the more accessible stories for readers fairly new to the Realms.
The Best of the Realms Book II contains both exhilerating and exasperating stories. While some felt as if they were drifting aimlessly (and at times very slowly) towards a lacklustre finish, several had me truly entwined in the telling until the end. I only wish every end was fulfilling.
The Master of the Realms.......2005-07-28
This book contains a nice selection of short stories written by Ed Greenwood, the creator of the Forgotten Realms. This is a curious collection of shorts. Some of his best short stories are included in this collection, while others are but strange and wondrous oddities. This is an eclectic but satisfying mix. The short story seems to be the ideal fit for Greenwood's writing style. These are excellent stories that paint a beautiful picture of the Forgotten Realms, and the folk who call it home.

Ahhhh... satisfying translation (for once)........2004-10-11
Alright. I'll put down my 'Anti-Viz' banner for the time being, though I'm certain that it'll be flying high for volume 16 (that scene just won't be the same without the honorifics, I tell you. Lose the impact without 'san's and 'kun's).
I was actually pretty darned satisfied with this volume. First off, no mention of 'dodge ball' (involuntary shudder at memories of volume 12).
Important things of note in this volume?
UBER-CUTENESS!Yuzuriha. Love this volume for it's centricity about poor li'l Yuzu-chan and the resolution of her crisis. Faboo! Though why no one got the damned hint about our li'l dreemseer when Inuki went apesh*t is far beyond me. Dur hur hur. Kamui, grow a brain. (smack on da head) And she told Kusa that she loves him! Kawaii! My cuteness factor's been pinged high. Time to get back to angst. *cackle*
VIOLENT!Kamui. The boy grew a spine somewhere between here and volume 12, which is highly satisfying. Gives me hope that the li'l touch of happy-happy that Clamp let Kotori elude to in volume... I think it was 5 or 6... has a chance of coming true. C'mon, Kamui! Live, Kamui! *waves her "Yay, Kamui! We love you!" banner*
ANGSTING!Kakyo. Actually, he's always angsting. But this explains all of that angsting. Oh, the pain... the pain!! Damn it, this boy should just jump ship and go to the side his precious one would've wanted him to be sided with. Moron. And with Evil!Hinoto these days, the DOH do need all the help they can get - even if it's a goober who's unconscious for 18 of 18 volumes of X.
PRESENT!Hokuto. Been loving this girl since Tokyo Babylon. Still loving this girl. She is, without a doubt, one of the most friggin' awesome female characters ever created by CLAMP. Jubilent, independant, angsting only when the world's crashing down about her (and even then, doing it with whaps to her brother's head, gentle hugs and chocolate cakes with tea), bright, smiley and just all around great, she really gets her time here (especially considering that she's been dead for 9 years). Love the way she and Kakyo so beautifully interact, explaining everything about invalid boy and nothing about her experimental 'dates' with the dreemseer. *cackle* Yay, Hokuto! More Hokuto! Gaw, I miss her. *cries*
EVIL!Hinoto. She's been evil for awhile, but this was a wonderful volume full of wickedry. I love the fact that the translation (that I didn't have to pound through one friggin' symbol at a time...) nicely clarifies (or attempts to!) what her deal is.
SEXY!Fuuma. The boy's always sexy (at least, he has been since he got hit by the giant DOE stick), but this volume... hoooo, maybe it's just something about him being evil and covered with blood, but #($@ the boy just rocks. *drool*
OH-SHNIKEYS!Subaru. Volume 16's just around the corner. *shudder shudder* Mmmmm.... heh heh heh heh. No spoilers here. THAT'S the volume... ahhhhh. No spoilers! *refrains from typing more*
A Great Volume.......2004-08-25
This is the 15th volume of X. Just for your information, Yuuto is on the cover.
I greatly enjoyed this book, mainly because Kamui gets a spine. It's very encouraging, and it makes me think of how far he's come. I don't want to give anything away, but let's just say that Fuuma's at it again... with a particularly vulnerable Dragon of Heaven as his target. At the end of the book is the back story for Kakyou. It's pretty sad, but how Kakyou became an invalid is finally explained.
In conclusion, don't miss this volume!

Book Description
Tibet suffered extreme political turmoil during the latter 20th century. Occupied in 1950, Red Guards destroyed thousands of official buildings and holy places during the Cultural Revolution and religious freedom and traditional education is still severely under threat. Due to the strength of the Tibetan's faith in Buddha and the Dalai Lama and against the odds many buildings have been reconstructed and their devotion and belief have remained extraordinarily strong. Buddhism permeates every part of a Tibetan's life, whether they are the Tibetans living in Tibet or the hundreds of thousands that live away from their homeland, in Nepal, India or the United States. This text is divided into five parts, with two main chapters devoted to the religious and lay Buddhists on their pilgrimages to holy sites. We see the monks in animated discussion, meditation and prayer and follow the devout believers on their arduous journeys to prayer. These two main chapters are interspersed with sections of portraits of this proud and dignified people who have their own innate sense of style and fashion demonstrated in the way they dress and adorn themselves. Known for his beautiful and uplifting imagery and soulful, but intimate, portraits, Steve McCurry's book offers an intimate insight into a unique and dignified culture.
