Dr. Robert Ghost Wolf is not a singular formulated thought. God is the truth in all thought. There are those who would challange your right to live in the freedom of Being.
They would try to pull you back into the murk and mire, only to justify their own struggles with owning their self-truth and worth.
Daring to have your very own thought makes you different. It makes you in many ways the "Outcast" ... the "Misfit" ...
Are you one of God's radical few...?
Through The Eye of the Shaman is a handbook for emerging Masters following the Path Less often Traveled...

if you are open to paradigm shifts.......2005-06-03
This book appears to have not been edited at all. It took me a few pages to get past all the typos; I mean seriously, a LOT of them. But then you realize it really flows. Some of the typos are actually creative wordings. Even though they appear at first to be mistakes, they are purposeful and add to the free and creative spirit of the book. In a way, I suppose having all the mistakes and creative use of new words is a functional part of helping to facilitate the mind to shift. If it was all tightly written, it would definitely have a different feel, and the message would come through differently, and perhaps not in quite the right way, if that makes any sense. The content itself is fantastic. I found it enlightening, yet simple to understand. It pulls you in and takes you through, and you find yourself just following. But it is also provocative and it makes you think. You still have to decide and figure it out for yourself! What I love about it is, it gives real information, that to me makes more sense than almost anything I've ever heard. I frequently felt pulled back into the thoughts and feelings of my childhood, to a time when I sensed what was real, before it all got skewed by family and societal conditioning. Also, I have read many books in all the areas of spirituality and self-help, and this seemed to pull it all together. It brings it all right down to the very essence. In some ways, I feel that all the books I have previously read prepped me and helped me to easily digest and integrate the ideas in the book. On the other hand, you could read just this book alone, and get the same basic idea that all the other books are trying to convey, but without all those other (now seemingly) unnecessary details.

Bishop Wolf is to be commended for the challenge she brings to many in the main line churches. She found our Lord in the poorest as she lived amongst them. Her story is a prayer in action.

- The Mathematics Teacher
This second volume of the Moving Middle Schools series provides a picture of teachers with the courage to invest in a well chosen generative topic for the sake of enhancing students' mathematical power. It demonstrated how by concentrating on the concept of "functions," teachers can lay a foundation for two essential mathematical understandings: the ability to model real-world phenomena mathematicallyto develop what the contributors call "math eyes"and the capacity to create graphic, linguistic, and numerical representations of mathematical information.
Through Mathematical Eyes offers revealing stories of how this generative curriculum plays out in diverse classrooms ranging from rural Maine to urban San Francisco. Through the vivid stories of classroom teachers, we see students relating math and science as they explore the effects of smoking on lung capacity, the question of sleeping fish, and the properties of magnets. We see teachers openly confronting the controversies and struggles involved in teaching complex concepts to students who sometimes lack strong computational skills. Most of all we see teachers and students engaging in real conversations about powerful learning and teaching.
In this volume, teachers will find concrete examples of unit plans, classroom activities, and assessment practices to use in their own teaching or in discussions with colleagues. Teachers will also find practical information about the conceptual nature of functions and the critical role functions play in math, science, and daily life. As a vehicle for professional development, Through Mathematical Eyes is an excellent resource for prompting both personal reflection and professional discussion.

Book Description
In the future, the most popular game in the world is Angelic Layer. Contestants must raise and train their own "Angels" (or fighting dolls) to compete in tournaments. Enter Misaki Suzuhara, sixth grade Angelic Layer prodigy. With her speed-type angel, Hikaru, many people think Misaki stands a chance at winning the championship. She'll have a lot of help along the way, but the road to victory will be not be an easy route, especially for someone as young as Misaki.

Not terrible, but very disappointing........2005-10-17
It's no secret that I'm a big fan of Clamp. I've read/seen many of their series and I've loved them all. Unfortunately, I found Angelic Layer to be exteremly disappointing and if I had to choose a least favorite Clamp series, it would have to be Angelic Layer. The biggest problem I had with this manga was the characters. None of the characters struck me as particularly interesting and Angelic Layer is completely devoid of any character developement. Gone is the usual love-triangle angst fest that are practically staples of Clamp series, all the characters in Angelic Layer remain virtually the same. Then, at the end of the series some characters are just randomly coupled together in ways that don't really make sense. The plot is highly predictable and the ending is just downright terrible.
Misaki's mother's reasons for leaving her (which I won't reveal her for spoilers' sake, so don't worry) is way too cheesy. Thank goodness Angelic Layer was only five volumes long. I think I would have given this series up if it were any longer. However, that isn't to say that there isn't anything good about Angelic Layer. Icchan was a wonderful character that I loved to bits. He's actually my favorite Angelic Layer character. There's lots of comical moments in the manga that really make me laugh and as predictable as they were, the battles in this series were fun. The artwork is also fantastic, as to be expected from Clamp, and I like the way they drew the characters all squid-like during certain comedy scenes.
If Angelic Layer was Clamp's first series, I would have given it a higher rating, since it's still a cut above the rest of the crap that's out there. But Clamp is more than capable than producing better series than this, so I have to unfortunately judge it harshly. One other good thing about Angelic Layer is that it's the safest series Clamp has. There is abosuletly nothing objectionable in Angelic Layer at all. So, if you know any little kids that like anime or manga, Angelic Layer would be the perfect series to use to introduce them to Clamp. I've heard that the anime version is better than the manga, and from what little I've seen of the anime, I have actually liked it more, but this manga was just very disappointing. The only reasons why I can see why one would want to read Angelic Layer is if you're either a diehard Clamp fan or a little kid. But if you want something that truly represents Clamp at their best, I recommend reading something like Cardcaptor Sakura or Chobits instead.
Completely adorable.......2005-09-23
I loved the anime series for this as well. The drawing is well done; similar to other CLAMP works and the characters are very much the same from the anime, if you have already watched it. I like the humor of the series and how the main character Misaki is always going, "Eeeks!" And mad scientist Icchan and his "Icchan went boom!" mantra always makes me laugh as well.
A Cute Read.......2005-06-14
I have all five volumes of "Angelic Layer", and I think it's good. Elementary student Misaki Suzuhara discovers the world of Angelic Layer, a popular game where contestants battle their own custom made dolls. Misaki makes her doll designed for speed, and names her Hikaru. Hikaru is small like Misaki, but she wins battles through planning and strategizing, proving that bigger is not always better.
The story was pretty good, if not a little predictable. The characters are ok too, but they are a little stereotyped. The art is cute, and the battle scenes are detailed. If you can, buy the editions without the red Tokyopop symbol on the spine because they have nice color pictures in the front.
One of the biggest attractions for me with this manga was the major crossover with "Chobits". A few characters from "Chobits" appear, like Minoru's sister Kaede.
Overall, this is a cute, fun manga that teaches the value of trying your best. I would mostly recommend it to younger readers, but others can enjoy it as well.
Battle Angels GO!.......2005-04-30
Misako is new to the city and has just found out about Angelic Layer - a game where robotic dolls, controlled by the will and spirit of their owners, fight for fame and glory. She wishes to join in on the sport but it takes money and experience. Misako, like most young twelve-year olds, has little in the way of cash and has no experience with the game at all.
Yet with the help of a slightly-unbalanced scientist and a Angel of her own design she might make it all the way to the finals.
If you are a fan of CLAMP or the Angelic Layer anime you might wish to start collecting this manga.
Even better than the anime.......2004-08-24
I wanted to see Angelic Layer ever since I saw some music videos on the Internet. After watching the fan-subs numerous times I knew I had to have the dvds when they came out. Then I read the manga...
It's hard to believe, but I actually think the manga is better than the anime in this case. In the anime, Misaki is more doubtful and distracted (even during the fights). In the manga, however, she's super-cute all the time, but when she starts a battle that's all her mind is on.
And speaking of battle, I don't think I've seen a manga yet where I liked the fight-sequences quite as much. The back-flipping, cartwheeling, super-graceful movements of the angels on the layer is simply a joy to behold on the printed page.
The dialog of the characters also seems (to me at least) to have more snap to it in the manga than on the show, and Icchan in particular is so incredibly hilarious I couldn't help but laugh out loud many times when reading Angelic Layer. The art style is interesting as well, as the characters are supremely well-defined and well-drawn at dramatic moments but turn into very silly (and very funny) "squid" versions during comedy dialog.
This is one manga that pretty much anyone can read. There's enough action to satisfy the martial-arts lovers, enough cuteness to satisfy a little girl, and none of the sex and violence garbage that could otherwise mar an excellent story.
I can't recommend this Manga highly enough.

For thorough treatments of Ajivikas and the Apologists, the derivation and meaning of "angst" and "anthropopathism," and profiles of Apollo, Al-Kindi, and Antiochus of Ascalon, William Reese's Dictionary of Philosophy and Religion is the tome of preference. And it does a fine job with B through Z, as well. With more than 4,000 entries, the dictionary delves into Continental and Asian philosophies and religions, and provides biographies of more than 900 ancient, medieval, and modern philosophers. It's erudite, inclusive, accessible, and covers the major philosophers, gods, tenets, and terms of both the Eastern and Western worlds. --Stephanie Gold
Book Description
"The strength of this dictionary is in the many cross references that lead to explanation of key terms within the context of the conceptual systems of those who have introduced and developed [them]." -- ALA Booklist
Customer Reviews:
Highly Readable and Useful.......2006-10-06
This is one of the most readable books that I own, which seems out of character for a "Dictionary of Philosophy and Religion" but it is very true. I can sit down with this book for hours at any given time. I think a big part of that is the excellent cross-reference system, so you can start anywhere and then see the linkages between different thoughts; which means that every reading of the book is like a journey. Another great feature of the book is that it covers both ideas and the people who forwarded them in the linking system so you can start with a study on epistemology and then end up ranging over half the book because you link to the people with the ideas and then back to the other ideas that the particular philospher had.
The drawbacks to such an approach are clear. After all, the book has to have some limitation to its length and it is covering many authors who wrote many thousands of pages on their own ideas, so the articles have to do quite a bit of summing up. Since it is absurd to expect deeper coverage from such a book anyway, I feel just fine highly recommending it.
Indispensible.......2005-09-29
I think this is a great reference book to have for anybody who is interested in the world of philosophy and religion. However its only shortcoming is there is more coverage on western civilization than others. It is understandable in any case because of the great difficulties involved in covering all civilizations. I hope the future expanded editions may remedy this to some extent. I am very glad to have a copy of it.
Timely delivery in good condition.......2005-09-04

A Cure for Boredom.......2003-12-29
When I am bored with everything, this is one of the books I like to pick up and browse through. There's so much material here, I'm bound to find something interesting or even inspiring.
This has taught me a lot........2002-08-25
I have been using this book for years, but I never had to learn anything that is in this book, being so amateur in philosophy that I don't have to trouble myself with the ideas for which most of the people in this book have become famous. I have usually expected things to be much simpler than the information which this book has to offer. It has nice definitions of some Greek and Latin words that I find meaningful, once I know what they are supposed to be about. On the Hebrew source of the word "Gehenna," the place used for "the city dump of Jerusalem" where fires burned constantly, the extra information, "according to tradition, [first-born] children had been sacrificed there to the god Moloch," provides a lot of insight into its use in The New Testament, where the King James Version often uses "hell."
For years, this book was my main source of information on Giordano Bruno (1548-1600). I suspect that it is right about "he was condemned to death, and burned alive in the Campo Dei Fiori on February 17, 1600." I have tried to make sense of a few of Bruno's books, like THE EXPULSION OF THE TRIUMPHANT BEAST, but I'm inclined to accept the list of main ideas in this dictionary as the sum of his accomplishments. Dying for the idea that "The universe is infinite" makes more sense than some of his monads, and "To consider reality in its multiplicity" is an achievement that I can appreciate.
On the other hand, the entry for Paul Tillich (1886-1965) illustrates a theologian's ability to distinguish "between three forms of reasoning~heteronymous, autonomous, and theonomous." I thought heteronymous would be pretty good, but Tillich thought that even "Autonomous reason takes its principles from within, but thereby reveals itself as vacuous and tautological." Being able to accept that Tillich would say that is part of being able to appreciate what this book is all about. I'm not saying that these guys are always right about anything.
