Product Description
In this memoir, we become witness to the transformation of the little Puerto Rican girl who emigrated to New York with her single mother and ten siblings. Esmeralda Santiago finally breaks out of a monumental struggle with her powerful mother, only to come under the thrall of "the Turk" and discover that romantic passion, too, can become a prison. Esmeralda's journey of self-liberation and self-discovery is a daring one, candidly and zestfully recounted, and leads, most improbably, to her triumphant graduation from Harvard. The expansive humanity, earthy humor, and psychological courage that made Esmeralda's first two books so successful are on full display again in El amante turco, which will both reward the author's faithful readership and extend it. Hers is a fresh, exciting, and necessary voice.

Esmeralda's best memoir........2006-07-16
This is Esmeralda Santiago's third novel of her series of memoirs. I had completely lost track of Esmeralda's writings until recently I decided to browse her collection and came across El Amante Turco. I purchased the novel right away and read it without any expectations or insight to the story. This memoir in my opinion is Esmeralda's best yet and exemplifies the simplicity but yet very elegant writing style that has become a trademark of this Puerto Rican author.
The story depicts the struggle of a young lady in a stifling relationship that continuously exemplifies how cultural differences can complicate a relationship. However, I would say this story can be that of any woman. Not only a Latina but anyone can experience male dominance and control in a relationship. Negi, the protagonist ventures out on her own, leaves the comfort zone of her Mom's home to experience life with Ulvi, her Turkish boyfriend/lover not knowing that her life would be limited and stifled by a controlling male who uses her to succeed in his academic career. After enduring much mental and to certain extent physical abuse, with determination, willpower and a strong desire to achieve her goals Negi leaves Ulvi and attains a Master's Degree.
El Amante Turco is an exemplary story written from the soul of an author who endured the ups and downs that life has to offer.
Exceptionally written, well- detailed, a woman's triumph. Highly recommended.
Sencillamente Extraordinario!!!!!.......2005-11-01

Book Description
Brierley thought she was the last of the shari'a, a race of witches who lived in peace-until the Alle-mani people decimated them out of fear of their differences. Brierley hid in the shadows, keeping her healing powers a secret, even as she fell in love with a nobleman-but she was compelled to use them when necessary, and those actions caused her to be discovered. As she makes her way to safety, Brierley discovers that she is not the last of her kind. There are many who stayed in the shadows and survived. The time of reckoning is at hand-and some of her people are not committed to peace. Will Brierley have to sacrifice the love of her life to save an entire world?
Customer Reviews:
Wishing for the next.......2006-07-18
Diana Marcellas Twilight Rising, Serpent's Dream (along with the other books in the series) has to be one of my favorites. I love Marcellas rich writing style, she makes you really see the world she has created. The characters to all have their own personalities, gifts and flaws that give you a very good sense of who they are.
I devoured this book and after reading it immediately when in search of an upcoming 4th one. Unfortunately I heard that Tor has put them indefinably on hold because they weren't selling well. I also read something about them having the rights to them so she couldn't publish it with some one else, thought I'm not as sure about that.
I really hope I can see the 4th book on the shelves some time soon!
One thing about this book that I didn't like so much was that not all that much seemed to happen. I kept waiting for that inevitable war to start, or some thing along those lines. So wish more had happened in this book, it seemed to be building up to the next one.
I did love the main characters fierce protectiveness of her unborn child and adopted apprentice. This is one of those books that draws you in and keeps you there until the very end. I love the world this author has created and the glimpses of the past she gives us. It shows us how these two people sharing the same land came to were they are now.
All in all this was a great book with rich texture, and wonderful language. I highly recommend it to any fantasy lovers!
An ending, please?.......2006-05-02
This is one of those rare series that stays on your mind even when you aren't reading. Anyone reading it should either have a lot of spare time or should be prepared to be carrying these books everywhere you go and reading them in between conversations, they're that amazing. Diana Marcellas has the gift of writing an intricate plot without making it too hard to remember, a problem in many science fiction/fantasy books.
Like most people who have read ths series, I started "Mother Ocean, Daughter Sea" thinking this was a trilogy and good for an in and out read. As it turns out, although I literally could not put the books down, it has the same problem as all series do while they are being written: the reader is left sitting, wanting more, but unable to get it because it hasn't been written yet. I'm sure, however, that the fourth book (which will hopefully come soon) will be as good as the last three have been.
Waiting for the end.......2006-05-02
Well, once again I've had to dig through my library to find something to read and settled on the witch of two moons series. I've probably read and re-read it at least 5 or 6 times and now I'm merely awaiting the next book in the series. Diana Marcellas has created a breath taking world with beautiful characters that draws you in until you can't put the book down. I highly recommend this series to anyone who likes authors such as Mercedes Lackey, Anne Bishop, Kate Forsythe, and Sara Douglass. The story ranges from seaside castles to mountain caverns with hidden cities.
A set-up.......2006-04-21
The complexity of the characters and their intricate relationships are what I like best about this series and this novel explores them magnificently. But it was only when I sat down to write the synopsis that I realized that nothing happens in terms of action and that nothing is resolved - the Finding's time has not yet come! (It soon will, though.)
Well, that's not entirely true - something does happen, but more in form of decision-making and inner processes taking place. Everyone decides whose side he or she's on and what kind of person he wants to be. Melfallan decides which kind of leader he's going to be and that no matter what he won't give up his love. Saray decides that she has no personality and further alienates her husband by imitating false role models. Brierley finds the answer to the ailment that has afflicted the sha'ria even before their downfall and the four dragons decide to participate more actively in the fate of their children ...
The novel should have been dull because it's mainly a setup for further events, but the effect was quite the contrary. TWILIGHT RISING, SERPENT'S DREAM absorbed me even more than the prequels (MOTHER OCEAN, DAUGHTER SEA & THE SEA LARK'S SONG) and I didn't notice how the time flew by.
I just hope that Marcalles will get down to business in the fourth book of the series.
A wondeful yet, unfinished end.......2004-12-02
Diana's newest installment and doesnt lack in the intrigue and adventure she's given in the past two novels. You literally can't put this book down. I read it in 3 days. This book has one drawback in it and im still trying to figure this out. I thought the series was only to be a trilogy but it seems that, at least i hope, Diana has changed her mind. The tale is left off unfinished with many things unresolved like how Brierly is the Keystone....what happens at the Coming and how does Sarya take Brierly's pregnancy and all. I hope there is another one to come because if not, the ending is a total bust and if that is what happens, then why was the series worth reading to begin with?

Book Description
Through the ingenious use of combining science fiction with industry expertise, Stephen K. Klasko, a practicing physician, and Gregory P. Shea, Wharton faculty member and health-care consultant, pose this provocative question: What if a medical resident was abducted by aliens in 1985, and through advanced technology was imparted a full understanding of the health-care system of the future? Mila undergoes this phenomenal experience and her life changes forever as she discovers an exciting and improved future in medicine.
Customer Reviews:
WOW - A well written book about business and medicine.......2000-04-18
I was amazed by the story line, the gripping tale, and the way in which Klasko wove his knowledge of both business and medicine into a compelling story. If Doctors don't get it after reading this book, they never will.
A reading must for hospital Board members!.......1999-10-06
Klasko and Shea take the complex issues of today's managed care environment and present it in a way that is understandable and fun to read. This book is a "must read" for anyone serving on hospital boards!
An engaging, thought provoking and entertaining book........1999-08-20
This book creatively combines science fiction and medicine (which are not as diametrically opposed as one might think). The authors have successfully explained the monumental changes that have occured in the health care industry over the past 15 years in an informative yet entertaining way. I found this book to be thought provoking, intriguing and extremely enjoyable. It really is a "must read" for anyone currently (or thinking about) working in health care. Drs. Klasko and Shea present a realistic and, thankfully, optimistic outlook on the evolution and future of health care. It is a remarkably well written book that will draw readers in and leave them wanting for more. Hopefully, a sequel is in the works!
Great message for anyone interested in healthcare.......1999-08-12
There have been few books that attempt to look at the nonclinical side of medicine with any creativity. This book by Drs Klasko and Shea takes a science fiction approach that acts as a perfect backdrop for lessons about how to handle the changes in medical care. The concept of getting abducted by aliens is how many physicians view the current scenario. I applaud Drs Klasko and Shea for attempting to mix this "Star Wars" type plot with an optimistic message for people involved in medicine
