A seminal work of American Literature that still commands deep praise and still elicits controversy, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is essential to the understanding of the American soul. The recent discovery of the first half of Twain's manuscript, long thought lost, made front-page news. And this unprecedented edition, which contains for the first time omitted episodes and other variations present in the first half of the handwritten manuscript, as well as facsimile reproductions of thirty manuscript pages, is indispensable to a full understanding of the novel. The changes, deletions, and additions made in the first half of the manuscript indicate that Mark Twain frequently checked his impulse to write an even darker, more confrontational book than the one he finally published.
Book Description
'Cordially hated and dreaded by all the mothers of the town because he was idle, and lawless, vulgar, and bad - and because all their children admired him so', Huckleberry Finn, the fourteen-year-old son of the town drunkard, joins runaway slave Jim on an exciting journey down the mighty Mississippi River on a raft.

An Adventure.......2007-08-30
It has been said that all American literature begins with The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Reading this book for the first time was a delight. Though I was thoroughly familiar with most of the story, I still found the book to be a page turner. The character of Huck, the manchild, has to be one of the most fascinating in all of literature.
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (Bantam Classics).......2007-08-05
I read this book years ago when I was very young, but it still stands today as my alltime favorite. As I turned the pages, I lived that exciting adventure along with Huck and Jim. The language is a bit difficult at first, but you get the hang of it rather quickly. It is recommended reading for all ages.
The Adventures of Huckelberry Finn.......2007-07-19
Again, I am never disappointed in purchasing books from you because they are always superior to buying local. Thanks for your service you provide to your customers.
Legendary.......2007-06-25
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn: classic. I really enjoyed this book. Mark Twain managed to keep the boyish atmosphere of the Adventures of Tom Sawyer while adding in adult like concepts, such as decisive moral choice and honor, to create a work of fiction that many hail to be the "Great American Novel."
If you're not familiar with the story: Huck, after having found riches with Tom Sawyer, is living with the Widow Douglas and no longer leading a life of vagrancy. I won't go too deeply into the story because: a) there are a lot of plot elements and it would be impossible and b) it really is something that you have to experience through the eyes and in the language of Huck Finn (the entire story is written from his perspective and in his dialect as opposed to the Adventures of Tom Sawyer, which was written in Twain's distinct voice). Notable plot elements: Huck's escape from Pap, Jim and Huck's travel down the Mississippi, the Duke and the Dauphin and the Royal Nonesuch, and Huck and Tom's (who is present at the end of the book) contrivance to "free" Jim (you'll understand the "quotations" after you read the book).
Overall, all the hype surrounding this book is well deserved. Anyone who can read the English language should read this book (it should be a requirement punishable by death). You won't be disappointed.
An adventurous novel, my favorite book!.......2007-06-12
Witness Huck's transformation into maturity, through reading this captivating book that preaches independence and loyalty. Huck's dedication to his friend, Jim, is truly touching and serves as an inspiration to all!
Since the beginning of Huck's journey, Huck is living on his own without real adult supervision for the first time. He escapes from the custody of his abusive and manipulative father, and runs into Jim, who becomes a father figure to Huck later on in the story. Along with this "independence" Huck is forced to make his own decisions, which Huck first derives from the racist thoughts he had learned growing up, which he was having problems applying to his new African American, and escaped slave, friend. As Huck sees the cruelties of the world, where the white race call African Americans "[...]" and when the life of a slave is not valued, he eventually decides that what he was taught as a young child, no longer applied to the circumstances that he now lived in. As a reader, we can read and marvel at the brave adventures that Huck takes on and acknowledge him for his independent thinking!
Huck's refusal to give up their friendship and trust, and the knowledge and wisdom that Huck gained should be envied by everyone. Therefore, Huck is an inspiration for courageously breaking away from the negative views of society by upholding honor and establishing his individuality. Don't miss out on a book that can change your own outlook on life, learn the positive impact your decisions can make on the world!

The Dastard.......2006-12-22
The Dastard By: Piers Anthony ©2000 TOR Publishing 298 pages
Evil as the devil, the Dastard is nothing but trouble. The Dastard, a book in Piers Anthony's Xanth series, is about a young man, The Dastard, who gave up his soul to Lord Xanth in exchange for the power to go back in time and change events. The Dastard is searching for a princess to marry. Xanth is a magical world within Florida where all naturally born citizens have a magic talent. The Dastard is accompanied by Becka, a 14-year-old girl with the talent of turning into a fearsome dragon. The two of them soon encounter a woman who can turn into a soup-er star and numerous other women the Sea Hag, a demoness who sucks the souls out of girls, took control over. Three four-year-old princess, Melody, Harmony, and Rhythm, transform into their twenty-one-year-old selves to help defeat the Dastard.
The Dastard shows one main theme: good or bad, life is an obstacle course with people in your way. Not everyone is satisfied by the objectives and actions of others.
The Dastard is a wonderful book for fantasy and adventure lovers alike. I loved this book because of the story's constant momentum. Anthony just throws out the adventures one after another. Anthony's unique style of switching the perspective from the princesses to the Dastard creates an unsustainable suspense at the end of every chapter. Can Becka or the three princesses stop the dastardly man? Find out through the magical people, humorous puns, and constant time travels of The Dastard.
a must read, good plot, "horrible" puns, excellent .......2005-10-28
I started reading the Xanth novels because of a recomendation but after a while, I got hooked! These books, by Piers Anthony, are full of terrible puns and deep characters. Xanth is a magical, pun-filled land close to the Mundane Florida. In Xanth, everybody has one "talent," or magial thing that they can do (Like a girl named Chlorine can poison water). In this story, there is a souless man called the Dastard who's talent is going bck in time and doing things. He uses this talent to make people's lives worse. For instance, if you had made an important discovery, he would ask you about it until he figured out how to prevent it, in which point in time, he went back and stopped it. The three princesses Melody, Rhyme, and Rythm were prophesied to stop him, along with Beka, the dragon-girl, but there is a problem. Beka is already with the Dastard and the 3 princesses are only six years old! The princesses must change places with their older selves from another world so that they can stop the Dastard. I wont tell you the ending; even the most brilliant mind will be surprisd. Like Anthony"s other books, this is light reading! I recomend this book to anybody of a mature enough mind, especially over 12.
$24.95 for an e-book?!?!?.......2002-11-27
I love the Xanth series but I don't think I'd pay $24.95 for an e-book version! Most other e-book prices are in line with a paperback sale price, $4.00 - $7.00. I think if you bundled 3 of his book together for download you could ask for that kind of price.
Best Xanth book in a long time!.......2002-04-19
This is one of the best Xanth books that has ever been written. The plot and the talents seemed to be better and more thought out then some of the ones Piers gets from fans. If you like Xanth then you will enjoy it. If you don't, then this may not be the best choice for you. Now, I suggest that you stop reading this review and order this book.
Xanth is my favorite place to visit.......2002-04-12
Piers Anthony's Xanth series fills that void we all get when we just want to read for the pure pleasure and not have to "think". You know, like wanting to watch a light hearted movie where you don't have to follow an intricate plot line or keep track of who did what to whom and why. The Xanth series pokes fun at the mundane world. Anyone who lives in Florida will appreciate the way Anthony describes local landmarks with a pun-ish twist.
The Dastard didn't let me down. Piers Anthony is back with a great plot as well as a bucketful puns. I know, people have been saying that the Xanth books were becoming just one big pun and there wasn't really a story. I'll have to agree, but it was only a few books and they were still a GREAT read. But, be forewarned. The Dastard has not one, not two, but more plots and subplots than you'd ever dream of in Xanth book. Savor it slowly so you don't miss any of the fun.
I adore this series and eagerly await the next release. I fiercly guard by collection and only let very special people borrow copies after leaving an adequate replacement such as their car or deed to their house as collateral.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent account of classical, ecumenical theology.......2007-07-06
This book is unoriginal - and precisely in its unoriginality, it is profound. Oden draws upon what he calls the "consensual tradition" of classical Christian theology to articulate the logic of Christian thought in his Systematic Theology. Oden's doctrine of God is particularly strong. He weaves together patristic trinitarian reflection, medieval reflection on analogy and the mystery of God, and a canonical reading of scripture to result in a stunning account of a God who is worth worshipping. Oden is deceptively simple in his writing. He points to key passages of scripture, and key passages from a wide range of Christian thinkers (from the East and the West, from the first century to the twentieth century). With this, he pulls together a richly diverse, yet coherent collage which breaks through the common stereotypes of classical Christian belief. This is a very valuable book for thoughtful Christians.
Oden at his best.......2006-03-03
Can you ever give one Author a 5 star review when Discussing Theology ?? This is Odens best effort. A must read for the student of Theology and the last installment of a great trilogy. Read them in order
A Historically Based Systematic Theology.......2001-09-28
Oden states that the history of the church is the history of exegesis. By looking back down the hollowed corridor of history to the faith that was delivered up through past generations, who sometimes willingly died as martyrs to protect and pass down the gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we rediscover the historical and intellectual roots of the Christian faith. Oden's view is that the wisdom of Christian thought has lain dormant and neglected by the contemporary church for far too long.
Oden desires to present the reader with the faith that Vincent of Lerins reflected when he penned, "quod ubique, quod semper, quod ab omnibus creditum est": "that which has been believed in every place, in every time, by everyone." By this, he means those statements of faith that have been claimed by the majority of Christians throughout time. Oden evidences a firm sense of the importance of reconciling historic doctrinal teaching within the ecclesiastical fundamentals of theology while presenting it in a way that will fascinate evangelicals as they row down the river of historical theology from its headwaters in the New Testament towards modernity. Faithful to this purpose, Oden tries to make no new theological contribution, seeks no new way to contemplate the Lord, no new method of expressing or articulating the Christian faith. Instead he calls upon with great frequency (over 15,000 times throughout the three volumes) to exegetes of Christian history which, as a group of thinkers, he refers to as classical Christianity, or ancient ecumenical orthodoxy. His goal is to warm Protestants to the richness of centuries of Christian intellectual achievement which led to the Reformation. Therefore, unlike other systematics where little thought is given to historical exegesis as though the Lord invented Christianity and then placed it on a shelf until the 16th century Reformation, this is a systematic that allows the historic Church to reveal its mastery of Christian thought that the history books ignore. By adhering to such a pattern, Oden has contested against the urge to engage modern and contemporary theologians and theological systems.
Though the reading can be difficult, not because Oden fails to define terms, or through the use of ambiguous language, but because his work is broken up by so many references to classical Christian exegetes. Nevertheless, Oden's systematic is well worth the reading effort, for it puts you in touch with what the great and enduring Christian teachers have thought of God and the meaning of the gospel of Jesus Christ. While not wishing to downplay the differences within the Body, I would point out that Oden harbors within the pages of his systematic theology an ecumenical focus that is surprisingly evangelical. In short, I highly recommend this systematic as it may well be the best systematic theology on the market. Undoubtedly, it is the best Wesleyan/Arminian systematic available today.
Outstanding!.......2001-08-30
A wonderful systematic theology. Very, very detailed. Oden doesn't start with the reformation as true christian living. The sources he is using are like a pyramid. First the scriptures, then apostolic fathers and so on. By this principle ancient and traditional sources are more used than modern authors or theologies.
A must for christians of all (!) churches. Buy all 3 volumes!
An Outstanding Survey of Christian Theology.......2001-03-09
Thomas Oden brings his usual passion to this work of theology, combining Biblical, Apostolic, Patristic, Medieval and Reformed thought into an excellent exploration of fundamental Christian doctrine. Oden is a "thinking person's conservative" who does not gloss over challenges to traditional Christian doctrines, but almost always concludes that the traditional doctrines are, in fact, correct and have stood the test of time and experience. I especially like Oden's ecumenical focus ... as one other reviewer remarked, this is a book that will be valuable to Catholics and Protestants, Calvinists and Wesleyans, High-Church and Low-Church. In sum, incredibly worthwhile!
