5 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended.......2007-01-10

I was not familiar with this book before I bought it; however, it was recommended by the teachers of the students for which this and several other Ed Emberley books were purchased. From the thank yous I have received, this book was a real hit! It is used in a Native American Mission School with great enthusiasm and even better results. What more could you ask for?

5 out of 5 stars Picture Pie 2.......2001-09-02

I keep having to order copies of this book! My grandchildren enjoy it so much that I end up sending my current copy home with one them. The many animal pictures keep them busy for hours. Now that they all have a copy I can order one to use in my classroom. The clear directions for preparing materials present excellent oportunities for me to teach fractions. The sequenced step-by-step pictures allow for exact duplication, but munipulation of the pieces encourages creativity. The original PICTURE PIE is good too, but I found this book to be more popular with the little people.

4 out of 5 stars We loved it, but..........2000-09-26

Within minites of receiving this book, my son(6)was cutting out shapes & gluing them together.... with enthusiasm! I always thought all kids love art, but it took this book to get my son interested. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars is the book binding was very poor. The binding (very loosely with only 4 strings) was falling apart after only one use. This is a book for kids, but I was the one using the stencils (I drew the shapes & kids cut them out). I shudder to think what shape the book would be in if I had turned them loose on it! Also, the book would probably hold up better if the stencil detatched from the book (a little pocket for storage in the flap would have been a good idea).

5 out of 5 stars My kids LOVE this book!.......2000-03-28

I bought this book a few weeks ago and have really ejoyed it. I just cut out a lot of the shapes, grab a couple of glue sticks, get my kids and they have hours of fun. The shapes and directions make it so easy for my kids (ages 4 & 6) to be successful in their art endevors. This is a good book to have in your collection if you work with kids at school, in your church or just have a child/children in your home.

5 out of 5 stars A Teacher Who Loves This Book!.......2000-03-04

Picture Pie 2 is a wonderful book that is fun for children and adults. While children make incredibly bright, fun and professional looking animals (bears, butterflies, cats, birds etc.) out of construction paper, they are learning all about fractions and geometry. Simply a must for every home and classroom.

      Book Description

The women of Paris have always been recognized as the world leaders of a classic, sophisticated look, that certain je ne sais quoi which has held such mystique for style-conscious women around the world. Here two native Parisians demonstrate what it takes to achieve the look of la petite parisienne, from building a collection of chic, timeless pieces (what the Parisian woman looks for in color, line, etc.) to choosing accessories, jewelry, perfume, and more. In addition, the book provides complete listings of not-to-be-missed Parisian boutiques, plus an indispensable glossary of French fashion terms. At once a practical style guide and a charming homage to one of the most popular destinations in the world, this colorful volume reveals the elusive secrets of Parisian chic.

      Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars more entertaining than useful.......2007-05-17

This book was published the same year that I lived in Paris. I like it for sentimental reasons, it gives you a picture of the street fashion that year. One of the outfits in the book is identical to the favorite outfit of one of my french friends at the time. However, this book is now outdated and I agree whith J. Whithford that Elegance by Madame Dariaux is a far better book.

      3 out of 5 stars Outdated.......2007-05-12

As someone who has been to Paris many times and has many Parisian friends I find this book to be stuffy and out of date. Yes, true, there are still many women in Paris who dress in the "old school" way but the average woman on the streets in no way represents what these women are trying to sell. However, they do give some interesting advice that is classic and can be used and adapted for wherever you live or travel.

2 out of 5 stars Snobbish shop owners name brands.......2006-11-03

I was very disappointed in this book. Mostly the mother-daughter team, who own a costume jewelry shop, tells you to buy expensive French brands you already knew about. The book is about half photographs of them wearing classic clothes that don't look particularly French---cream, khaki, navy and other neutrals. Very tasteful, and stylish in a quiet way, but nothing specifically French. Maybe that's the point. Entre Nous by Debra Ollivier was vastly more useful in understanding what makes french woemn seem more stylish. She is an American who lived in Paris for a decade married to a Frenchman.

5 out of 5 stars Much Better Than French Chic!!!.......2006-07-15

I have "French Chic" by Susan Sommers also, and this book book by Veronique & Virginie Morana is more contemporary in my opinion. "The Parisian Woman's Guide To Style" is not written by an American in Paris, like Sommers. It was written in 1999 by two French natives who own a boutique in Paris. Although 6 years old, the pictures still look current in their simplicity. The authors have managed to capture classic French elegance without looking stodgy or outdated. Their basic wardrobe elemants and accessories apply whether your lifestyle is working mom, a college girl seeking to upgrade her image or even a socialite. There are some interesting beauty and style tips. The back of the book lists boutiques to check out when you're visiting France (if they're still there.) There are many great color photos as examples. The drawback is that all the recommended items are expensive and French-made, which isn't realistic for a woman on a budget. However, you can use this a guide to selecting and combining the best wardrobe pieces within your own budget when you visit department stores. You can always find good quality knock-offs.

      1 out of 5 stars I agree with J. Whitford, it's not worth getting.......2006-07-05

I bought this book, and several others in the whole french chic genre.

I agree Frederik Fekkai's book, A Year of Style, and Genevieve a Darieaux's book are supreme.

So is Things a Woman Should Know about Style by Karen Homer.

Leah Feldon's advice on dressing rich and dressing thin is along these lines and really good value if you are trying to create a core or capsule wardrobe along french chic lines. Which translated simply stands for quietly elegant.

Anne Barones 3 Chic and Slim books are terrific, available on her website, so you needn't pay the inflated prices on the web but they are definitely worth every penny. Google her name and the title, and the site should appear.

Finally Entre Nous was a great book discussing a lot of different aspects of french life including the diet, wardrobe, manners etc.

This book in comparison comes up WAY short. The pictures are outdated already, which wouldn't be such a problem if the text had anything of value to say.

The classic perfume list was interesting, as were the bits on what goes into the basics of a wardrobe

but you can figure that out using Karen Homers tiny but terrific little book Things a Woman Should Know about Style (which is a terrific companion to Genevieve a Dariaux's A Guide to Elegance-- it updates Genevieve quite nicely).

all in all I'd say hang onto your money, and buy:

Anne Barone's 3 Chic and Slim books,

Things a Woman Should Know about Style by Karen Homer and

Genevieve a Dariaux's A Guide to Elegance along with

Frederic Fekkai: a Year of Style (out of print now, but worth getting!) and

Does This Make Me Look Fat?: the Definitive Rules for Dressing Thin for Every Height, Size, and Shape by Leah Feldon

Leah has good advice on shopping for quality, and if you want more, she has an out of print one that dates back 20 years that still has good advice in it.

as well as Entre Nous by Debra Olliver.

That little "bookshelf" will net you a thousand times better advice on learning grace, style and chic than this little photo essay book.

Another great collection of Liberty Meadows strips. Nobody draws women better. Oh yeah, there's jokes and critters too. Did I mention Frank Cho draws great female characters?

5 out of 5 stars I love this series so far..........2007-03-09

I have all first 3 volumes and I find this TPB hilarious and entertaining.

        4 out of 5 stars Brandy, you're a fine girl.......2006-11-25

More fun in this volume, including the Evil Brandy vs. Not Evil Brandy storyline!
Mr Cho constantly shows his skill, with different drawing styles and even 'borrowing' characters from other comic strips.
Perhaps the only drawback with Frank Cho drawing beautiful women is that they all look beautiful. Apart from the mole and the hair Brandy and Jen look identical.

Cover gallery in the back and skecth pages (but not as many as volume 2). Also a three page story added at the back.
If you love Liberty Meadows this is for you, if you don't love Liberty Meadows... don't bother the rest of us while we're reading this.

5 out of 5 stars Viva Liberty (Meadows).......2005-11-21

Crazy animals and geeky humans return in "Summer of Love," the third collection of Liberty Meadows comics. If the "evil Brandy" story isn't enough to snare people, then the slapstick humor, poignant romance and intense geekiness will definitely do.

This volume starts with Brandy's sultry roommate Jen installing a webcam, which captures all of Brandy's half-clothed, undignified moments. Khan the killer catfish returns to wreakhavoc on our friends, Dean coughs up his lungs, and Frank Cho (chimp alter ego) takes us on a guided tour of the animal sanctuary.

Probably the best storyline involves an "evil Brandy" from our dimension arriving in Liberty Meadows, immobilizing the good Brandy, and trying to kill Frank so that she can conquer the world (with her killer Pokemonkey). What stands between her and conquest? Frank, his tough alter ego, and a very P.O.ed Brandy...

But don't think that it gets too serious -- Cho does action and sci-fi exceptionally well in this story, mingled with some oddball humor. But then it's back to weirdness: going to the gym ("Someone get the jaws of life!"), Brandy's nasty mum, going fossil-hunting, to a summer barbecue with a skimpy dress code, and to a mega-geek convention where Brandy is repeatedly mistaken for Lucy Lawless and Lynda Carter.

Geeks, this is your kind of strip. In what other strip will you see the gang going to a con, with a main character dressed as Darth Maul? Or see references to David Lynch's "Dune" flick? No other strip! While civic pride adds to my liking for Cho, the real winning point is the insane sense of humour, and the appeal to our geeky sides.

The kooky animals take center stage, especially with the physical humor, from exploding gas pipes to sports injuries. Exhibit A: Dean coughing up his lungs, and Ralph uses a bellows to keep him alive. On the other hand, Cho provides some sweet romantic scenes, where poor Frank tries to summon up the courage to ask out Brandy.

As always, Cho keeps a mixture of realistic drawings (Brandy, Frank), and cartoonish artwork of all the animals. The one drawback (for women) is the focus on big-busted women; there's ONE male hottie in the whole book. But at least Cho can laugh at this focus, by having Jen toy with male minds, and having Dean hitting on girls and being hit by them in turn. Hope springs eternal for the piggie, I guess.

The animal shelter/looneybin antics continue in "Summer Love," a hilarious collection of Frank Cho's award-winning strip. And that baby picture on the back is pretty darn cute.

        5 out of 5 stars Wonderful book.......2005-08-26

Liberty Meadows is a hilarious and sadly underrated comic following the adventures of a group animals with issues and the long suffering humans who take care of them.

This collection has the classic 'Evil Brandy' storyline that has to be read to be believed.

My only issue with the collections is that they don't include the Sunday strips which were collected in the comics.

It's a great series read this book.

The people of the United States, according to author and filmmaker Michael Moore (Bowling for Columbine, Stupid White Men), have been hoodwinked. Tricked, he says, by Republican lawmakers and their wealthy corporate pals who use a combination of concocted bogeymen and lies to stay rich and in control. But while plenty of liberal scholars, entertainers, and pundits have made similar arguments in book form, Moore's Dude, Where's My Country? stands out for its thoroughly positive perspective. Granted, Moore is angry and has harsh words for George W. Bush and his fellow conservatives concerning the reasoning behind going to war in Iraq, the collapse of Enron and other companies, and the relationship between the Bushes, the Saudi Arabian government, and Osama bin Laden. But his book is intended to serve as a handbook for how people with liberal opinions (which is most of America, Moore contends, whether they call themselves "liberals" or not) can take back their country from the conservative forces in power. Moore uses his trademark brand of confrontational, exasperated humor skillfully as he offers a primer on how to change the worldview of one's annoying conservative blowhard brother-in-law, and he crafts a surprisingly thorough "Draft Oprah for President" movement. Refreshingly, Dude, Where's My Country? avoids being completely one-sided, offering up areas where Moore believes Republicans get it right as well as some cutting criticisms of his fellow lefties. Such allowances, brief though they may be, make one long for a political climate where the shouting polemicists on both sides would see a few more shades of gray. Dude, Where's My Country? is a little bit scattered, as Moore tries to cram opinions on Iraq, tax cuts, corporate welfare, Wesley Clark, and the Patriot Act into one slim volume--and the penchant to go for a laugh sometimes gets in the way of clear arguments. But such variety also gives the reader more Moore, providing a broader range of his bewildered, enraged, yet stalwartly upbeat point of view. --John Moe

In case anyone in Washington hasn't noticed, Americans are fed up with the status quo. In this, the first shot fired over the bow of the 2004 Presidential election, Michael Moore aims to unseat the man who slithered into the White House on tracks built by the bloody hands of Enron and greased with the oil of his daddy. As if an unelected, semi-literate president weren't problem enough, America's Democrats have managed to take the liberty out of "liberal," signing on with the G.O.P. for dirty corporate money and the ill-gotten gains of globalization. The "left" is just as satisfied as the right to stand idly by as the chasm between the haves and the have-nots grows wider and wider. Thank god for Michael Moore because DUDE, WHERE'S MY COUNTRY tells us precisely what went wrong, and, more importantly, how to fix things. In a voice that is fearless, funny, and furious, Moore takes readers to the edge of righteous laughter and divine revenge. Tapping into the collective and widespread discontent of everyday Americans, DUDE, WHERE'S MY COUNTRY provides an incisive look at Republicans, Democrats, and the robber barons of corporate America as it maps out what regular citizens can do to storm the halls of power and reclaim their stolen country.

This was a great read. The right wing nutjobs are as full of it as ever. Sure wish they would quit drinking Kool-Aid by the gallon.

5 out of 5 stars Moore Right On The Mark.......2007-08-05

I read this book while on vacation in August of 2007. Although it was written in 2003, it is amazing how Michael Moore was right on the mark.

Moore's critics constantly attack his books & films, but when you look back he is always right. Great book.

5 out of 5 stars I love Micheal Moores Honesty.......2007-07-21

I'm a big fan of Micheal Moore. His candid view on our country is honestly refreshing.
This is a must read for anyone who questions our motives in this country.

5 out of 5 stars Refreshing, but made me mad.......2007-06-09

This book details some of the dirty dealings that have been going on surrounding 9/11-"President" Bush and his relationship with the Saudi Royal family as well as other things connected to the post 9/11 world. What made me angry is that with this book and Moore's movie Fehrenheight 9/11 Bush actually got elected President (again some would say). A very good book for those that want to think.

5 out of 5 stars Entertaining AND informative.......2007-02-19

Before discovering Michael Moore on my own, I used to just assume he was some left-wing nut job. But after reading this book I find his opinions to be very rational and he offers common sense solutions to complex problems. Which is much unlike our President who can't seem to find any solution to any problem.

I found myself having a hard time putting this book down, easily reading 80+ pages at a time. Let's face it, politics can be boring at times, but a little mixed humor makes it easier to take in large doses and Moore knows the perfect balance.

If you have any doubts about Michael Moore's credibility, first of all, he backs up nearly everything he says with sources. He makes clear distinctions between opinion and fact and also uses direct quotes from people.

As for the "There is no terrorist threat." statement that Fox News and others like to spin around, they should keep reading before distorting Moore's intention with those words. Moore was trying to make a parallel by repeating "There is no terrorist threat." to the Bush administration's constant fear mongering by showing that after repeating something so many times you believe it and it sinks in. He never suggests there is no terrorist threat, in fact he concedes there WILL be future terror attacks and the following chapter is entirely about what we can do to prevent terrorism. Seems awkward someone would write a chapter about preventing terrorism if they didn't believe there was a threat, doesn't it?

My final thoughts are that Michael Moore is a true patriot who cares very deeply about the direction this country is headed in. He knows that regardless of skin color or nationality every human life is equal and that calling French Fries, Freedom Fries is silly. Especially since the food we are referring to with either of those names originated in Belgium!

                Product Description

Michael Moore is on a mission in his new book: Regime Change. The man who slithered into the White House on tracks greased by his daddy's oil buddies is one of many targets in Mike's blistering follow-up to his smash #1 hit Stupid White Men, the biggest-selling nonfiction book of the year. Now no one is safe: corporate barons who have bilked millions out of their employees' lifetime savings, legislators who have stripped away our civil liberties in the name of "homeland security," and even that right-wing brother-in-law of yours (yes, we all have one) who manages, year after year, through his babbling idiocy, to ruin Thanksgiving dinner.
