Product Description
It all began with footprintsÂ… Tornado researcher Victoria Thomas discovers an impossible set of footprints in a muddy field near Memphis. They indicate that a man walked away unharmed after being engulfed by the full fury of a twister. A year later, Victoria finds an identical set of mysterious tracks in Kansas and she becomes obsessed with finding this odd wanderer. His existence challenges her very conception of reality and stimulates something deep within her imagination. When she finally does find Ben Fulgar, Victoria can't believe her own eyes or his improbable story. She'll risk her life to prove to herself that the world operates according to rational rules. During their adventures on the prairie, their relationship intensifies into a love that will be challenged by the ultimate forces of nature. Tornado Siren is the story of two outsiders drawn together by the simple beauty and deadly destruction lurking on the Great Plains.
Customer Reviews:
Fascinating read.......2006-08-10
It's a tall tale that works to suspend disbelief. Well developed characters pulled me into the story. I wanted to believe Ben's story; I found his character interesting in part because of his willingness to learn from others and how he viewed his place in the world. Victoria is interesting by being willing to consider what by her training, she shouldn't be willing to consider. It encourages introspection. I enjoyed reading the book and would recommend it to others.
Enduring life-honoring metaphor.......2006-03-07
In a compact volume, Patrick Gabridge manages to tell a long (and admittedly tall) story that resonates long after the book is closed on the final page. The volume seems larger than its narrative because so much is accomplished. The author's two central characters are engaging and well-written in this economy of words. Yes, they both stretch credulity, for different reasons, but no matter. I applaud the addition of the heroine's loving, eccentric, but somehow plausible parents. They figure significantly into the story and offer a touch of gentle comic relief. While Gabridge's two protagonists carry us through their personal storms with passion that matches Nature's own tornadic drama, we learn to care about them as much for the humanity they manifest as for their quirkiness and defiance of natural laws. Gabridge admirably handles two other jobs with just the right touch. He conveys the sense and science of weather, and he employs poetic restraint to a vivid description of weather's gruesome effects. One of the most sturdy of compliments one can make to an author is, I think, to say: You wrote characters into surreal situations that felt present and real, and I wanted to know what happens after the final word. I still do.
She said, "Awesome"........2006-03-01
Patrick Gabridge's "Tornado Siren" is a fascinating book. I purchased it and while it took me a chapter or two to get "in the swing" of Mr. Gabridge's *style* I kept reading it, thankfully, to see how the plot played out. My wife picked up the book and became immediately engrossed. When she finished the book I asked her for her opinion. Her reply was remarkably succinct, "Awesome".
Fun Read.......2006-02-26
The history of one of the main characters is not plausible, but, as one continues to read, that becomes less and less important. The main characters are engaging and the minor characters are true to life. Definitely worth a read.
A complex book.......2006-02-25
A complex and engaging book, making me nostalgic for the Midwest. . . I highly recommend picking up a copy, the character development alone is worth it, but the twists in the story make the reader question their own reality, and come out on the other side much richer! Great writing!

great book.......2007-08-30
I thought this was a great book and would recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and entertaining book
Excellent novel.......2004-12-27
As all the Lucky's novels this one is excellent. You won't be able to put down the book until you finish it, JC has the ability to write five different stories in the book, merge all of them at the end of the book and keep you interested in all the stories and willing to read for more.
such a great book.......2003-07-11
From reading some of the reviews the customers have said i was a little sceptical about reading this book, but once i started it i couldnt put it down. i brought it everywhere even to work (something my boss was not thrilled with). i would deffinatly read this book again. personally i think it was the best book out of the whole lucky series. i hope you enjoy reading it like i did!!
1/2.......2002-07-10
Before Dangerous Kiss, every Lucky novel was an improvement from the last. That's why I was hoping for this to be the best Lucky novel, and Lucky could end at her best. Unfortunately, this one almost makes Chances look better!
This is "A Lucky Santangelo Novel", yet Lucky only plays a secondary part. Lucky's persona we all knew and loved in her prior adventures is much more passive, which is a major letdown. Another thing that I must say is that most of the characters crossing over from other Lucky novels serve no point in the novel, and you almost want to yell at the book, wondering why they are wasting pages.
Lucky has been a lot of fun, but I think it is time to leave her be, and move on to bigger and better things.
absolutely marvelous!!!!.......2001-12-26
Dangerous Kiss is so different from the other Lucky Santangelo novels because it does not feature the Bonnatti family. I really loved that it introduced new characters to the world of Lucky Santangelo and Lennie Golden.
This book is definitely worth five stars because you won't want to put the book down. It will keep you wondering about the fates of Lucky and everyone that she loves!

Book Description
Handsome, kind, and unassuming, Mr. Gray seemed the answer to Deborah Weyman's prayers. For once she accepted the position he offered, she would finally be safe from the notorious Lord Kendal, a man she had good reason to believe had murdered her former employer -- and was now after her. But there were certain things about Mr. Gray that Deborah should have noticed: the breadth of his shoulders, the steel in his voice, the gleam in his uncommonly blue eyes -- things that might have warned her that Mr. Gray was no savior, but a very dangerous man....
Too tempting to resist...
Though she posed as a dowdy schoolteacher, Lord Kendal saw right through her disguise to the treacherous beauty beneath. Now, convinced that she alone can tell him the truth about Lord Barrington's murder -- and the whereabouts of Barrington's young son -- he coolly masquerades as the innocuous Mr. Gray. And only when it's too late for Deborah to run will she learn what it means to be at his mercy -- and powerless to resist his seduction....
Customer Reviews:
Awful.......2004-11-24
Oh yes, kidnapping and near rape is great for romance. (NOT.) She's a twit, he's an autocratic pig, they spent most of the time bickering, he did some shocking stuff that made it really hard to like him at all...I can't see what the fuss is with this author.
Marvelous Love Story with Loads of Suspense.......2002-12-31
Deborah Weyman had been running for so many years - always running it seemed so that when she met the handsome, kind and unassuming Mr. Grey she thanked her lucky stars for the respite and knew that she could finally rest for a little while from the notorious Lord Kendal whom she had every reason to believe had murdered her former employer. Mr. Grey, now here was a man she could trust - so gentle and considerate of her every comfort as he transported her to his home near the town of Wells. It was the answer to her prayer as it was there in Wells, that she had brought her young ward, Quentin, to keep him safe from his father's murderer until she could find a safe place for them both. It wasn't long before a chance meeting led her to discover that her `savior' Mr. Grey was actually John Grayson, Earl of Kendal the very man she was running from.
After her attempt to escape, she was brought to house where Grey and company did their best to `break' her into revealing where she had hid Quentin. Even though he was acting beastly, Deborah could not help her physical attraction to Gray, nor his to her even though he thought she was an accomplice to the murder. Once they came to the realization that they were both on the same side and Quentin's welfare was for both of them their utmost concern they began to work together to try to trap the real murderer while the passion that they were feeling for each other sizzled beneath the surface.
As if finding a murderer wasn't mystery enough, Gray had to find out who Deborah really was and what else she was running from, before they could ever find a way to find each other.
Again and again, I find this author comes up with another completely enthralling read - gallant, brave and honorable heroes - brave and resourceful heroines and wonderfully colorful and complex secondary characters to keep the pages from ever getting dull. Top it off with passionate love scenes and exciting suspense with a historical background and you have this reader hooked! From beginning to end this was a marvelous story that will keep you up all night long.
DANGEROUS TO START LATE AT NIGHT.......2001-07-29
A great book from a great storyteller. An exciting beginning to this story pulls you in and doesn't let go. A mystery which you will not figure out until the end. A sexy hero and spunky heroine, great sexual tension and love story. For a change the hero falls in love first. Not the same old same old. Wonderful! A keeper! Try Liz Carlyle, Emma Jensen and Karyn Monk for more exciting reading.
Good story, could have been better.......2000-06-12
After witnessing the death of her employer, Governess Deborah Weyman knows the identity of the murderer and whisks her ward Quentin away to safety. Knowing that the murderer, John Gray, the Earl of Kendal, is named Quentin's guardian Deborah must do everything in her power to protect him.
Gray knows he must do something drastic to find Miss Weyman and get Quentin away from his kidnapper. Unknown to him that Deborah believes he is the murderer, he devises a plan to kidnap Deborah and force her to inform his of Quentin's whereabouts. What he didn't expect was for the elderly governess to turn into a beautiful swan.
After realizing her mistake Deborah goes along with Gray's plan to catch her former employer's murderer. But can she keep her own secrets safe while falling deeply in love with Gray?
After reading WHISPER HIS NAME and STRANGERS AT DAWN I decided to go back and read an older book by Elizabeth Thornton. Unfortunately I wasn't as impressed. A good read but not up to par with her newest works
Love this novel.......2000-03-27
I enjoy Thornton's novels very much because of the good mix of compelling characters, hot romance and twisted mistery (and I do mean "twisted"; do not look at the last page first!)
This book does not quite have the poignancy of my favorites "Whisper Your Name", "Bride's Bodyguard" and "Dangerous to Hold", but it is a very well spent evening regardless. You will have trouble putting it down.

Customer Reviews:
THIS BOOK IS FREAKIN' GREAT!!.......2007-02-14
I have already read this book and LUV it!! The artwork is great and when that pesky asistant [oops] tries to fall in luv with Katar/Carter/Hawkman, Fox does a great job of making Hawkgirl's "voice"
LOOK icey!
Another excellent Archive Edition!.......2005-06-15
Another excellent Archive collection from the folks at DC, "The Hawkman Archives, Vol 1" collects his early appearances from The Brave & The Bold and Mystery in Space.
The tales are superior examples of Gardner Fox's blend of sci-fi and superhero. Although a bit repetitive (face it...these are meant to be re-read as single stories, not like the multi-issue sagas of today), but always enjoyable. Check out the "Identi-Card" which is described as a plastic card used to pay for things that automatically takes the money out of your bank account, or how Hawkgirl does some shopping from home while looking at a screen. All in two panels.
In 1961, Fox accurately predicted the ATM card and Internet shopping. Unbelievable.
Joe Kubert's artwork is beautiful, as expected. Given the other comics around in 1961, it's no wonder he was considered head and shoulders above his competition. His figure are lithe and graceful. and his faces are rough-hewn marvels.
Anderson's artwork, in the last few stories, rises to the challenge. It's exquisite as well. Different style, but perfectly serving the story and a joy to behold. Detailed and precise, with great facial expressions.
Being horrifically addicted to these Archive Editions, this is a welcome addition to the series. I welcome the arrival of these classic 60's comics.
Some of the Best 60s Superhero Comics.......2002-04-02
The Gardner Fox / Joe Kubert Hawkman stories are among my all-time favorite comics. Each story contains a different science fiction premise, like most of Fox's stories, but here we also get his two best characters, Katar and Shayera (Hawkman, Hawkgirl). Much of Fox's work suffers from some perfunctory characterization and dialogue, but his Hawk-folks communicate a unique charm that reminds me a bit of the Thin Man films. I don't think there's a more convincing and effective partnership in a married couple anywhere else in comics.
Of course, it helps that Joe Kubert illustrates most of these stories. Kubert is probably better known for his Tarzan and DC war comics work, but this book contains some of his best. The artwork is comparable to and reminiscent of Alex Raymond's Flash Gordon strips (and you'll notice how much Hawkman's uniform resembles Flash's). I don't mean to slight the Murphy Anderson artwork that appears later in the volume; I like Anderson also, but the Kubert stuff really stands out.
A soaringly good comic collection!!.......2001-01-19
Though not one of DC Comics' BIG THREE characters (Superman, Batman & Wonder Woman), Hawkman has been a fascinating, enduringly popular superhero for almost 60 years now. As a testament to Hawkman's appeal, DC has given him the ARCHIVES treatment, focusing on arguably the hero's most assured period of publishing success, the 1960's. Indeed, the work of Gardner Fox, Joe Kubert and Murphy Anderson on HAWKMAN is legendary, and DC has spared no expense in the lavish reproduction of their work. The crispness of the stories (featuring such seminal HAWKMAN villains as Shadow Thief, the Gentleman Ghost and others), and especially the vivid artwork, are on full display in this ARCHIVE edition.
For those fans who have regulated Hawkman and Hawkgirl to second-string superhero status all these years, this collection goes a long way towards changing their minds. In the hands of these creators, Hawkman was as exciting and compelling a figure in DC's 1960's era as any other character they published, and that mystique is a primary reason why DC has never completely given up on their attempts to revive Hawkman many times in the years since.
Like all of DC ARCHIVES editions, the HAWKMAN ARCHIVES is a bit of an investment, but a wise one in my opinion. Overall, a fine quality collection celebrating a most unsung DC hero.

Book Description
While researching the 2012 end-date of the Maya Calendar, John Major Jenkins decoded the Maya's galactic cosmology. The Maya discovered that the periodic alignment of the Sun with the center of the Milky Way galaxy is the formative influence on human evolution. These alignments also define a series of World Ages. The fourth age ends on December 21, 2012, when an epoch chapter in human history will come to an end.
Maya Cosmogenisis 2012 reveals the Maya's insight into the cyclic nature of time, and prepares us for oue own cosmogenesis--the birth of a new world.
Customer Reviews:
Fascinating book.......2007-09-27
Cosmogenesis 2012 is a compelling book about the meaning of the Mayan and Mesoamerican calendric images. It reveals evidence as to why the Mayan calendar ends on December 21, 2012 along with explanations as to what this could entail for humanity. I recommend it for anyone interested in the end date of 2012.
Maya Cosmogenesis 2012.......2007-03-09
This work of Jenkins was all and more than I thought it would be. I share his path to where we are going in 2012. I would purchase any work of Jenkins as I know I would not be disappointed.
2012 Research starts here.......2007-02-18
John Major Jenkins has looked into the question of why the Maya ended their 13-baktun cycle in the Gregorian year 2012, and has researched the matter in incredible detail, and comes to conclusions that result from detailed study of many archaeological and specialist works. His study shows that the Maya deliberately targetted this point in time as the end of the cycle, and the evidence is found in king-accession rites, mythology, architecture, and the ball-game.
As you will know if you've read other reviews, the reason is the alignment of the winter solstice sun with the galactic equator - an event that happens only once in a cycle of precession - around 26,000 years. This IS NOT the "alignment of the solar system with galactic centre" or any of the other misrepresentatations of his work that have appeared.
This work stands whether or not anything noticeable happens in the years around 2012 - the fact is, that the Maya predicted that something would happen around 2012. This has become evident since the publication of this book, since the Tortuguero prophecy entered the public domain. In April 2005, the existence of Tortuguro monument 6 was revealed, (though known to a few specialists before that). The stela gives the end-date 4 Ahau, 3 Kankin, 13 Baktun (a combination of 3 calendars that gives the 21 December 2012 date) and gives an accompanying prophecy of the return of the Nine Gods.
The real End Times on 2012.......2007-01-23
I will make the boldest prediction of all... and when the time comes, you will remember this. Great spirits have come to me... great spirits... They have revealed their predictions and they have revealed their secret names to me. Remember this well on 2102. The named spirits were Jackson Danniels, James Beehm, Jonathon Wocker, and the ancient Russian sage, Stolly Chanaya... And here is what they said - in telepathic visions to me: On January 1, 2012, this is what will happen:
"The year 2011 will now be 2012." And later that year, many peoples will predict the end times will again visit in 2039 and that they never really meant 2012... it was a telekinetic typo....
Fascinating.......2006-11-30
Full of interesting facts about the Mayan civilization, how they saw the earth and their brilliant understanding of the Universe. I now understand how the complex calendar works. As to the prophecy, yet again, we can only wait and see!

Book Description
Assesses Mircea Eliade's contribution to the contemporary understanding of religion and the academic study of religion.
Changing Religious Worlds measures the nature and significance of Mircea Eliade's contribution to the understanding and academic study of religion in North America today. It includes the perspectives of the continent's leading experts on Eliade and his thought, both critical and supportive. It also includes previously unpublished fiction and journal entries from Eliade himself. The book ponders whether it is time to leave Eliade behind or whether we can yet learn from either his insights or his errors, and whether the changing world has left Eliade behind or whether it is finally catching up with him. Particular consideration is given to whether Eliade makes any lasting contribution to our ability to deal with the changing face of religion and the ability to "change over" into the religious world of the other and to see through the eyes of the other.
Customer Reviews:
You may have other reasons for losing your time..........2005-08-16
You may have other reasons for losing your time than reading or even perusing this failed attempt to run into Mircea Eliade's legacy. For all the pain it took, I had to read it. What strikes this reader, besides the Stalinist endeavor to destroy Mircea Eliade's reputation, is sheer stupidity at work in the efforts of its many authors. This monumentally inept text is not excused by Herostratic complexes or even more inept professed " views " on " what is religious about religion ". Stupidity, even conceptualized, is of course only an excuse for many authors. The even more numerous " analyses " here are sheer failures - even as pamphlets - as rotten bread tastes, if taken with many, far too many, grains of salt. What matters here is only the attack on Mircea Eliade. Even the few intelligent and " positive " studies are inserted, I'm sure, only to make the attack more credible as an " academic " work.
If authentic, the only prowess of this tasteless conconction is making us, readers, lose time. Within the inner workings of the mind of such authors - if we adventure that far - we still crave to find a hint of logic. For it's really all self-inflated nonsense, aggravated by loud borborygms. Their larger subtext, I'm afraid, is only destruction of value per se. If one " author " needs such captatio benevolentiae as "dear reader" ( p. 4 ) I'm already beyond yawning. If the same author tries to lecture us on the Michelson-Morley experiment, ruining paper by cut-and-paste processes and meaningless quotes ( from the relevant Britannica online passages, of course ), I need not follow such " logic " as an argument against our great and for ever unsurpassed Eliade. Last, but not least, if it's rational at all, the book's argumentarium is a shame. With such sort of snoring discourses - more fit for the understanding of religion in the intellectual realm of the dear leader of northern Korea - there is no wonder that wikipedization of the Western culture is now rampant ! ( Wiki, wiki means " quickie ", in case you are, like myself, ignorant of recent progress in " knowledge technology " ). Using such credentials as machine-readable Google rankings, the intellectual level of the " deconstruction " operated by this chef d'oeuvre is only matched by the power of fans and other vacuum machines at work under their word processors. Paraphrasing Mr Rennie's billious quote on " Augustine ", and Mr Rennie's own profuse knowledge which allows him to " correct " Eliade's thinking, " we all know what religion is, until we think about it ". But Mr Rennie also knows what religion is even when he thinks he thinks about it. I also happen to contemplate the future of Eliade's legacy and I can only end, having studied his opera omnia : Once there were rats attempting to outrun elephants, in en effort to cross the memory bridge together with those elephants. I'm sure that while they made all the noise they could, such rodents thought of themselves in terms of " we all cross bridges ".

A foolish stumbling block.......2003-01-27
Paul Hessert brilliantly disects the Christian life and separates Christian thinking from the infiltration of secular and religious thought which owes more to the greeks than Christ. Hessert opens up the new testament (and old) in way that leaves you with nothing except trust in God through Christ crucified. A wonderfull exposition on the the Gospel, the real message, and how Paul and the Writers of the new testament try to show the message of Christ crucuified as the Good news ,as a stumbling block to those seeking signs and as foolishness to those seeking wisdom. Starting with Corinthians and moving through Mark and the other Gospel writers and on to the rest of the new testament, Hessert Brilliantly captures the life of the Christian and how we are "in the world but not of the world"
I really believe that Hessert's look at our modern Western world and its related and misguided views of God (both secular and Christian) is outstanding, origional and true to the Gospel. I did find that Hessert can be difficult to read at times often using complicated grammar and long and convoluted sentences. I do believe that the thinking and insights revealed in this book are worth the effort of the read.
I would recommend this book highly to those who will accept a challenge and don't mind being changed in their thinking, because Hessert leaves no Holy Cow alone. This is a tough one, read it with a friend to allow open debate and comment and help with tough thoughts, but well worth the read and highly recomended. This will be a good read for serious studiers of God's word and normal folk like myself, but be warned Hessert won't leave you alone and will seriously challenge you.

Book Description
The Western moral tradition has been profoundly influenced by attempts to ground moral convictions in an analysis of human nature, whether conceived in rational, emotional, or biological terms. This idea that nature is the ultimate standard of our actions is found in writers as different as Aristotle, Hume, Hobbes, and Darwin, as well as their modern followers. But in an age of rapid biological changes brought on by biotechnologies such as stem-cell research, gene therapy, and mood-altering drugs, can human nature still serve as a basis for our moral thinking?
This is the question explored by Richard Sherlock in Nature’s End: The Theological Meaning of the New Genetics. Sherlock contends that in light of the fact that we can now alter human nature we must find a transnatural standpoint from which to make moral judgments—that is, a theological standpoint. Current and future advances in genetic and biological science require a bold theological response, argues Sherlock, not a response based on pragmatism or arguments from nature, including natural-law arguments.
Sherlock provocatively calls for moral traditionalists to aim not so much for rational agreement as moral conversion, a “mighty change of heart.” Theology must bear witness to its deepest convictions about the meaning of human existence, he writes, and try to get people to see the world anew. Nothing less will serve to meet the deepest moral challenges let loose by the new biosciences.
