God's Gift to Humankind.......2007-07-11
These Rabbit books may not rank by academic standards with the likes of James Joyce or Marcel Proust, but by any other standard, they may be said to be the absolute best there is. Updike can be unsatisfying - there are pieces that I have had trouble getting through, but one comes to accept the fact that writers run in streaks like baseball players. In this series, Updike was having one of those incredibly productive 'seasons', and as a result we have this rich, hilarious, moving set of books which improve from volume to volume. By the time one gets to "Rabbit Is Rich," Updike is writing at his best. What is so great here is that one can live in Rabbit's world with him, especially if you remember the Carter years, the arrival on these shores of Toyota, and the odd sense of anxiety that grew in the land as a result of that and other signs of national decay. Updike sees it all. Rabbit is rich, but Rabbit is not happy. His sex life isn't what it used to be, but he still gets a kick out of looking at women's breasts, enjoys contemplating the color of a stranger's body hair, can't help noticing little perfections and imperfections on his daughter-in-laws legs. His disappointments preoccupy him, but his memory of moments of happiness is keen, so we bask in his nostalgia. Rabbit is especially hilarious on the subject of America's youth, especially that of his son, who has bad taste in just about everything. Rabbit plays the maimed hero, triumphant yet oddly unmanned.

Sweet & Sexy Love Story.......2003-04-08
A great couple and a great story. I've always thought that contemporary romances were thin and lightweight compared to historical romances (which I still prefer), but authors like Janelle Denison, Julie Ortolon and Rachel Gibson might just make me re-think that opinion.
Noah Sommers, hunky, sexy PI and all around nice guy, has been quietly, doggedly pursuing waitress/student Natalie Hastings for seven long months. Unfortunately, Natalie's response continues to be an annoyingly familiar "No". She steadfastly refuses all Noah's attempts to take her out, though he thinks he sees suppressed interest in her eyes. What's her story and why won't she go out with him? He's about to find out when she finally agrees to let him walk her to her car one night.
Natalie Hastings is living a solitary, lonely life out of habit as well as necessity. Her early life in foster care prepared her well to survive on her own, but Noah Sommers personifies everything she longs for. He's handsome, sexy, sweet, considerate and protective and much as she'd love to have him in her life, she can't. It would endanger herself as well as him, for she is being stalked. She moved to Oakland from Reno to escape the guy, but fears she will never be safe. And as Noah walks her out, she sees her stalker following them, panics and runs - into the path of an oncoming car.
In order to stay near her at the hospital, Noah tells the staff he's her fiance - a lie that will domino into so many more when it is revealed that Natalie has suffered retrograde amnesia! While Noah hates the lies he feels compelled to tell, he's doing it all in order to keep her safe. And while Natalie may not be sure of much else in her mixed-up mind, she knows for certain that being with Noah is right and where she belongs. But Noah dreads the day when her memory returns - will she hate him for his deception? And can he catch her stalker before he can hurt Natalie again?
A terrific, fast-paced, sexy love story that I'm sure I'll read again! I'm going to check out the stories about Noah's brother Cole and sister Joelle as well. Recommended!
A reckless and wild guilty pleasure.......2003-01-31
Sensual romance doesn't get any better than this. Harlequin veteran Janelle Denison concludes her Seduction series with her latest focused on the romance between P.I Noah Sommers and love-interest Natalie Hastings. Noah frequents the bar Natalie waitresses and is intrigued by her persistence to stay uninvolved. This is stemmed from a disastrous relationship to an ex-turned stalker who makes her naturally wary of men. Yet all is changed when she is hit by a car after she panicked from the return of her ex and suffers a retrograde amnesia. Noah steps in as her 'fiance' to protect her and root out the culprit to her nightmares. No longer remembering with only trust in Noah, Natalie bares her sensual side and tempts Noah to a full-blown sexual interlude and a chance at love without realizing that their relationship was a pretense with good intentions. Janelle Denison's Seduction series sparkles with erotic abandon and this entry is no different - except being her most indulgent and sophisticated effort in weaving a superb romance with a cavalcade of hot smoldering passion that will leave you breathless. The intimacy of their passion is a reckless and wild guilty pleasure, a blaze from start to finish.
Fabulous use of an amnesia plot -- Very highly recommended.......2002-09-30
Nine months ago Natalie Hastings came to Oakland, California seeking anonymity and safety. A long time boyfriend turned stalker betrayed her ability to trust or enter into intimate relationships. Despite her determination to remain aloof, however, Natalie cannot resist entertaining very erotic fantasies concerning Noah Sommers, a regular patron of the restaurant where she waitresses. Nevertheless, she dare not yield to her beckoning need for a wild, reckless adventure with this hottie.
Repeated rebuffs cannot discourage Noah's interest in Natalie. One night he finally persuades Natalie to allow him to walk her to her car -- a fortunately decision when Natalie recognizes her dreaded stalker nearby. To Noah's surprise, Natalie flings herself at him, giving him an incredible kiss. When she tears herself away and flees, Noah follows Natalie, but he cannot prevent her from running out in front of a car. After her transportation to the hospital, Noah pretends to be her fiancé so he can remain close. He never expected the situation to escalate and for Natalie to indeed believe them to be engaged!
Fans will recognize Noah Sommers from Janelle Denison's previous two "Seduction" books and be pleased that he has at last earned his own story - and what a terrific tale THE ULTIMATE SEDUCTION is! Noah's aura of seduction and sin deserves the equally tempting Natalie. The selective use of amnesia as a plot devise allows an unexpected advantage: Natalie forgets her fears and allows her passionate nature to dazzle Noah. Further, does not belabor the amnesia issue, allowing it reach a graceful resolution with her surprising reactions. As a result, Denison once again demonstrates her consummate skill for remarkable characterizations and a delightful plot, in addition to a marvelous blend of romance and erotica. THE ULTIMATE SEDUCTION comes very highly recommended.

Women, Buy This Book!.......2007-10-03
My childhood sweetheart trained me how men want to be treated, but my adult marriage didn't work out well. Now I know why: my husband wanted to be treated in a very different way than I had been taught.
Everything I do is exactly as I was taught, and exactly what Kiki T says I should do ... for my childhood sweetheart. And exactly the opposite of what I should have been doing to keep my husband happy. Which is too much a radical departure from my training for it to ever become second nature; I'm not sure I could even fake it!
Now that I know that, I will make more effort to choose men by their astrological signs, for those my style is appropriate for. I'll leave the ones who need Smother Love to those women who can give them what they need.
Great Read!.......2007-09-16
This is a good book for any woman looking for ways to get the kind of man she is after. However, guys, this book is not for you. It does not tell you how to get the woman you are after by her astrological sign. My friends and I could not wait for it to come in and were disappionted when it did not include both women and men of the signs. But it is an awesome book and has great tips. My friends and I roared at how spot-on Kiki T. was imagining the guys that matched the signs we knew.
Awesome!!.......2007-09-06
This book is a crack-up. I didn't buy this book to look men up, I am married, I wanted to look my husbands sign up and find out all of his secrets. Very interesting and for the most part true. I love sharing it with all my friends. Cayli
Astrology Has Never Been So Fun and Easy.......2007-08-19
Kiki T. has written such a thorough and common sense book of Astrology!! I could NOT put this book down. I had the best time reading it and thinking of everyone I knew. Even though I have been married for 14 years and don't plan on dating(anytime soon LOL) I still got a huge kick out of Kiki's book. I think it has helped me understand everyone better in my life, my kids, my parents, my P.T.A. moms, teachers and yes my Aries husband. It is also a GREAT way to understand oneself and possibly understand prior relationships that went bad. Now I know why I let "the man who got away" get away! HOORAY FOR KIKI T. When does the next one come out???????
love,
Teddy
A refreshing look at dating and Astrology.......2007-07-13
I just recently bought this book, and couldn't be more pleased. Aside from teaching one the ways of starry seduction, you'll be surprised at how much you learn about yourself and what turns you on. This book goes incredibly in depth, and even tells you what you should wear in order to hook your astrological prospect. Flawless.

Book Description
Here's the script to the winner of "Best Off-Broadway Play of 1989" as voted by the Outer Critics Circle. "Funny, serious, suspenseful, involving, disturbing, and above all, expertly crafted...It concerns the intended hostile takeover of a deserving but obsolescent Rhode Island family business, New England Wire and Cable, honorably and not unprofitably run, that provides jobs for an entire small town's population...Epic grandeur and intimate titillation combined. It is the most stimulating kind of entertainment." - John Simon, New York magazine. Hardcover.

Better than the movie.......2006-06-24
I have seem the play at the Minetta Lane theatre. It was much more pungent than the watered down movie version. The next best thing is actually reading the script.
The off-Broadway play properly casted actors suited for the parts rather than glitzy film stars. You will also find that the movie heavily "sanitized" the storyline and dialogs. This resulted in a cartoonish movie rather a serious theatrical drama that just happened to be funny.
If you saw and or read the play first, you may find the movie rather disappointing.
Snap, Crackle & Pop.......2005-10-25
"Other People's Money" appeared Off-Broadway at the Minetta Lane Theatre in February 1989 with Mercedes Ruehl as Kate Sullivan. It is a gripping economic drama that is well written and rides like a bullet train to its fascinating conclusion. The story traces the fate of New England Wire & Cable Company that has been in business 73 years with its CEO Andrew Jorgensen at the helm for the last 38 years. His secretary Bea Sullivan has been at his side for that entire time. Now in an era of fiber optics, the company finds iteself occupying an increasingly larger share of a fading market.
Corporate raider Lawrence Garfinkle sets his sights on the company and begins buying up shares. His goal is to demolish the company and sell of its assets for profit. He proudly proclaims that they are worth more dead than alive. Bea Sullivan enlists her attorney daughter Kate with Morgan Stanley to come to their aid. They plot strategy and try to counter the takeover, but find that Jorgensen is very much an ethical old-style president who refuses to bend to these new methods. William Cole is the president of the firm and sees the handwriting on the wall and tries to negotiate a golden parachute retirement package. Failing that, he makes a deal for $500,000 to let Garfinkle vote his shares. The play climaxes as Jorgensen and Garfinkle address the board of directors. Jorgensen talks about the jobs the company provides to the community while Garfinkle appeals that he will make them money by selling off the company at a higher return than they'll get for hanging onto it. In the end, the company is demolished. Kate Sullivan marries Garfinkle and has several rich little kids. It's a corporate tale where it's not enough to work hard; American businesses must also work smart. Dramatically, it has a strong punch and the characters are interesting and the dialogue peppers back and forth with snap, crackle & pop. This would be an interesting show to see on the stage. Enjoy!
A must read!.......1999-09-28
I never got to see the off-Broadway production but I loved the film and reading this play is the next best thing!
In many ways, this is a better written story than "Wall Street" or "Barbarians at the Gate." It is technically accurate and really gives you a flavor of high finance in the 1980s. Like "Glengarry Glen Ross," it really gets at the heart and mind of the people in the business.

Product Description
Second in the Venus series. Carson Napier begins this episode in the Room of the Seven Doors. He can leave any time he wants, but six of the seven doors lead to hideous deaths; only one is the door of life.
After navigating his way out of this logic puzzle, Carson continues his quest to rescue the planet's fairest princess. He pursues this with singlemindedness, even though more terrible dangers lie ahead; even though the princess wishes neither his help or his affection; even though her people will execute him if he enters their country! Such is the honor of an Earthman's pledge.
Book Description
Lost! Space adventurer Carson Napier made a grievous miscalculation and became stranded on dangerous, mist-shrouded Venus. But Napier refused to quit. He won the love of the beautiful Duare, princess of Vepaja, became a pirate, fought villains, then lost his beloved to the evil Thorist kidnappers.
Napier's adventures on Venus continue in this pulse-pounding sequel to Pirates of Venus. Here the intrepid and wry explorer takes on a savage world in order to rescue the princess from her sworn enemies. Napier’s epic quest for Duare takes him through the streets of the City of the Dead, into the terrifying Room of the Seven Doors, and face to face with fantastic and perilous creatures. Featuring what may be Burroughs’s most realistic hero, Lost on Venus brims with the action, suspense, and wit unique to the Master of Adventure.
This edition features an introduction by celebrated writer Kevin J. Anderson and the original illustrations by J. Allen St. John.

To live or die?.......2007-05-31
This is the second book in Edgar Rice Burroughs' "Carson of Venus" series. It picks up right where the previous book left off, with Carson Napier in the hands of his enemies. He manages to escape and reunites with his ladylove, the beautiful princess Duare. They go through many adventures in an attempt to return to Duare's hometown, eventually becoming seperated again. Carson meets another beautiful princess, Nalte, and has further adventures. Does Carson reunite with Duare by the end of the book? I won't tell, but I'm sure you can guess. This is typical Burroughs, which will appeal to people who like old fashioned adventure stories.
The adventure continues.......2004-07-12
The second novel in Edgar Rice Burroughs' Venus series. Space-faring earthman Carson Napier was separated from his beloved princess Duare at the conclusion of the previous novel. Now, he is after her once again, determined to get her home safely to her kingdom of Vepaja, and the result is the literary equivalent of one of the old Saturday morning serials with just a pinch of social commentary. From the Room of the Seven Doors, down the River of Death to the City of the Dead, where a mad scientist presides over a kingdom of zombies, and the beautiful city of Havatoo, which is a paradise but only if your lineage is pure, Carson and Duare bounce from predicament to predicament. Will they survive their adventures? Will Duare drop her haughty facade and accept Carson's love? Is there any doubt? Not really, but getting there is the fun. This series benefits by being more humorous than most of Burroughs' work.
Carson pursues Duare the janjong across Amtor.......2003-10-01
"Lost on Venus" is the second volume in Edgar Rice Burrough's Carson of Venus series and a rather ironic title since our hero left Earth on a spaceship headed for Mars but ended up on Venus because he forgot to take into account the moon's gravitational pull. Fortunately it turns out that Venus not only has a breathable atmosphere but is inhabited. In "Pirates of Venus," Carson Napier learns about the politics and culture of the planet called Amtor and fell in love with Duare, the daughter of a jong (i.e., she is a princess). Of course, in grand ERB tradition, by the end of that first novel Carson and his beloved were separated by a cruel fate (she is carried away by a flying creature and he is captured by a Thorist spy, and the time has come for him to do something about that.
Originally published as a serial in "Argosy Weekly" in 1933, this pulp fiction adventure is communicated to ERB by Napier himself, using telepathy (I liked the Gridley from the Barsoom books better). Carson is held captive and is put in a room where there are seven doors: one leads to escape, the rest to horrible deaths. This is a fairly interesting start to the story and ERB has some fun coming up with a way for his hero to get out of this predicament. Carson, who is given the name Albargan ("No-Hair-Man") by the natives, catches up with Duare, who keeps insisting that he is too low to speak to her since she is a janjong and he is a nobody. There are some interesting science fiction notions, as when Carson considers the Amtorian theory of the cosmos, which is totally wrong since the planet's constant cloud cover keeps them from seeing anything else in the solar system.
Even though you find all of the standard Burroughs elements from the romantic adventure formula that made him famous as Carson pursues Duare, "Lost on Venus" really is more of a political polemic than his standard stories. This book continues the political satire of the series with the Thorists clearly intended to represent the Communists and it is hard not to see the scientifically advanced city of Havatoo as representing an Aryan wonderland in the Nazi tradition (later on in the series ERB clearly takes aim at Mussolini's brand of fascism as well). "Pirates of Venus" is not really considered a dystopian novel, but in terms of predicting the political evils that would lead to World War II, Burroughs was fairly accurate. This was the last of the major series that ERB created and during the 1930s it really represented his best work, which would seem to indicate that his political passions in the Venus books worked to his advantage.
Another great story from the master........2002-10-30
Very entertaining storyline. Gives the reader another chance to imagine an adventure on one of our sister planets. After reading the horrible end to the Martian series, anything would be good. But this storyline is good enough to stand alone.
Book Description
CARSON OF VENUS - Volume 1 - Pirates of Venus & Lost on Venus When Carson Napier, the All American adventurer and scientist embarks in his rocket ship to Mars events go disastrously wrong. Soon he is careering into the sun, but bizarre fortune has him crashing into Venus instead. There - in the 'cloud covered realm' his adventures begin in earnest as he experiences strange and alien flora and fauna (which seems intent on eating him) and exotic people ruled by equally exotic scantily clad maidens! Action comes hot upon action in this classic of early science fiction. This book contains the first two Carson of Venus novels - with more to come.

Leonaur Ltd. is publishing the definitive Edgar Rice Burroughs 21st century editions. These usually contain 2 books of the different ERB major series in order - thus far John Carter, Pellucidar, and Carson of Venus. In the future, possibly Tarzan!
These books are handsome and my rating is mainly based on this - the ERB fan knows best about the rest of it.
This volume presents the first 2 Carson of Venus novels. Not as good as the other 3 major ERB series but still fun. And this Leonaru Limited editions are a must buy!

Compelling, eye opening, and spirit filled!.......2007-07-24
The first book that I have read on this subject that was so easy to read and understand and at the same time incredibly powerful and life changing. I always knew in my spirit that my partner and I were not wrong, but didn't have the knowledge of the scripture. It is a wonderfully powerful testimony backed with scripture and moving honesty. Where I live there is not a christian gay church so this book helped so much. If you're gay or not you should read this book.
A non-fiction story that is scripture based.......2007-01-31
This book is a wonderful resource that has helped me to understand the issues surrounding homosexuality and the Christian faith in an honest and scripture-based way.
Unlike Oliver's review, this book is not a "feel good" book where the author just dismisses what the Bible says about this topic, and what it DOESN'T say about it. Nor does Sundby just read the bible to only hear what she wants to. Reverend Sundby goes through ALL the motions of studying scripture accurately and with the willingness to accept the truth it is speaking to her, including a possible "anti-gay relationship" interpretation that Oliver believes is the only right interpretation.
What makes this book refreshing is not only is it scholarly, but it is written in the context of her life story. For many readers this book will help them understand a lesbian Christian's life and her quest to understand what God is saying about her life. Highly recommended!
Uplifting and Inspiring.......2006-10-31
After recently going through a dark time in my life, I have found this book to be very uplifting. I read this book in only a few days because I could not stop myself from reading it (note: reading is not my favorite hobby). The book is well written and easy to follow, even for a novice, such as myself.
I recommend it for any GLBT who is questioning their place in the christian community, or in the eyes of God.
The Holy Spirit Moves.......2006-08-04
This book, unlike many I have read delves deeper into how the Holy Spirit is moving in the GLBT world. This is an excellent book of the life altering changes the Rev. Sundby undertook to remain true to both herself and to the call of God.
I recommend this book to anyone who is GLBT and so a citizen of the Rainbow nation, or anyone with friends or family who are, and also to those who take the instruction of Micah 6:3 to heart: "And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."
This book will help us all on our walk.
Honest, heart warming and compelling.......2005-11-23
To boldly go where no man/woman has gone before-in her first book, Calling the Rainbow Nation Home, Dr. Elaine Sundby takes us on a journey to the "final frontier." Most straight evangelicals like myself could never have imagined taking this journey. They consider this frontier to be on the "dark side" of the universe and would never, ever be caught on the outer fringes of what is acceptable and appropriate.
"What frontier?" you ask. It is the frontier of the gay community, the last people to be liberated from the hate and prejudice of society and the Church. Sundby's logic and reason calms our fears of daring to explore this forbidden land. As she candidly opens her life to our scrutiny, we see (to our amazement), she is just like us-a pilgrim in this often harsh world, looking for love and acceptance. Her search for grace and truth can't help but move and inspire you, as it did me, like a fresh breath of air after the poisonous pollution we've ingested from the Church pulpits. As she emerges from the pain and confusion of a spirit of rejection, into the glorious confidence of Father's unshakeable love, your own spirit will leap within you.
Her conclusion after years of intense Biblical research and pressing God for a personal, clear and final word? God loves each and every one of His children, even those who comprise the Rainbow Nation! Sundby's theological exposition on the subject of homosexuality is brilliant and extremely persuasive. Can one be gay and be a Christian? Unquestionably!
For the gay person struggling to believe God doesn't hate them, the author offers great hope as she paints a picture of a world without guilt and shame. For the straight person, Sundby presents a perspective that will challenge what you think you "know." It is my prayer that Father will use this persuasive and powerful book to heal broken hearts, crush religious mind sets and to throw open up the doors of the Body of Christ to welcome all God's children home.
