A. Manette Ansay's novel about a wedding day 30 miles north of the Illinois state line has some of the earthy authenticity and knowing emotional detail of Jane Smiley. Yet the comic, melancholic voice in Midnight Champagne is very much her own. The scene is Valentine's Day at the Great Lakes Chapel and Hideaway Lodge, amid Wisconsin winter fields "the featureless white of amnesia." The place used to be a raunchy roadhouse where "room 33" was (and perhaps still is!) the code word for an assignation. A less libidinous lady ghost is also said to wander the halls. But the real nightmares here are of the everyday variety. April, 22 years old, a rebel artist, is abruptly marrying her new boyfriend from Nashville. Her family can't see why she dropped her all-too-steady ex-beau Barney, who sold Scotchgard products at the local Magic Carpet. Brooding Barney, invited to the wedding by mistake, can't see why either--though flashbacks illuminate the reason.

As the nuptials hit various snags (like a storm that knocks out the lights), April's family and friends reflect on vanishing marital passion, the presence of an ex-husband's pregnant young wife, the emotional mosh pit of the bride's tossed bouquet, and the kids'-eye view of it all. One does yearn for a more take-charge omniscient narrator to fuse the many characters' insightful musings--the novel's got a scattery feel. But it's a privilege to meet these people, visit this real-seeming place, and savor such flavorful sentences. --Tim Appelo

Book Description

April Liesgang and Caleb Shannon have known each other for just three short months, so their Valentine's Day wedding at a chapel near the shores of Lake Michigan has both families in an uproar. As the festivities unfold (and the cash bar opens), everyone has an opinion and a lively prediction about April and Caleb's union, each the reflection of a different marital experience.

Meanwhile, at the nearby Hideaway Lodge, a domestic quarrel ends in tragedy. As April and Caleb's life together begins, death parts another man and woman in angry violence—and as the two stories gradually intersect, their juxtaposition explores the tangled roots of vulnerability and desire.

By the time the last polka has been danced and the bouquet tossed, Midnight Champagne has cast an extraordinary spell. From the novel's opening epigraph from Chekhov—"If you fear loneliness, then marriage is not for you"—to its final moments in the honeymoon suite, A. Manette Ansay weaves tenderness and fury, passion and wonder into a startling tapestry of love in all its paradox and power.

3 out of 5 stars Midnight Beer.......2007-09-09

I had higher expectations for this book. It was a quick read which was a plus, I just wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It was like I was expecting midnight champagne and got beer served to me instead.

4 out of 5 stars Memorable and Intriging.......2006-01-23

I read this book in a matter of a day. It was a quick read but had such depth. The view of a wedding and marriage is so different for each character. The relationships are magnified by the events of the day. I truly enjoyed this book.

2 out of 5 stars Blech.......2005-04-16

What a chore this book was to read. If it weren't for my OCD about finishing books that I start, I would've read the first couple of chapters and then given up.

It seems like a wannabe-suspense, but it's not. It seems like there might be a love story in it, but there's not. It feels like there might be a creepy angle in it, but there is not. What I can gather about this book is that the author thinks she's going to connect all these people with different circumstances and perspectives together by one tragedy. She tries to make a connection, but falls WAY short. Read Vinegar Hill - that one was worth it. Pass Midnight Champagne by.

5 out of 5 stars This is what a book should be!.......2004-07-30

Midnight Champagne is my favorite of all of Ansay's published work. The structure of the book is ingenius; the various pathos, observations, grudges and relationships between guests at a wedding involve the reader in each and every character. At least this reader cared about each and every character, and I appreciated the neat resolution of each character's particular conflict/story arc. Many of the observations in this book are laugh-out-loud hilarious (echos of Anne Tyler), and others are bittersweet (also echos of Anne Tyler). This book makes me hope that Ansay is enjoying a respite from her illness and that she will release another book soon. There is also the element of the mystical (echos of Alice Hoffman) which serves to pull the separate arcs of this novel into one fnal bittersweet family view.

4 out of 5 stars A Very Likeable Book********.......2004-05-04

Much better than her Vinegar Hill, Ansay shimmers in this. The characters are silly, flawed, and plain real. Having not read many stories about weddings, I have little to compare it to. It was a nice escape, pleasant to follow, & overall a delightful change from some dramas I've been delving into.
I definitely will read more of her.

Book Description

An unforgettable journey of faith, strength and friendship.

Apart from sharing the same zip code, Randi Howard, Anna Montano, Meredith Allen, Helena Whitworth and Crystal Howard have absolutely nothing in common until a fiery explosion on a west Texas oil rig changes everything.

Their husbands are men who live to search for "black gold," men who are willing to exchange backbreaking work and long days for danger and excitement -- and money. But on a blistering day in early autumn four of the men pay the ultimate price -- leaving behind one man who wishes he had.

In one brief moment the tragedy binds Randi, Anna, Meredith, Helena and Crystal closer together than a lifetime of friendship. As they gather at the hospital, waiting to learn who among them will not have to bury her husband, they turn to one another for support. And so begins a journey of faith, of strength, of tears and of love.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars This book is a taste of West Texas........2004-05-08

This is a truely enjoyable book. As a nurse in West Texas I see the dangers of oil field work every day. Jodi Thomas brings out the subtle humor of the men who live here and the bold intelligence of the women they marry. A great story and a taste of the real West Texas.

4 out of 5 stars Still Not Sure.......2003-10-19

I had to add a review because a previous reviewer complained that the identity of the survivor was revealed too quickly. I finished the book several days ago, and I'm still not sure if it was Shelby or Jimmy. That being left in question was the second surprise of the book. The first was plunging into a Jodi Thomas book and finding myself in a contemporary story rather than a tale of the old west. A real change for her, but VERY interesting.

4 out of 5 stars strong character study.......2003-08-05

In Clifton Creek, Texas, the oil rig explosion on the Davis ranch leaves four men dead and one individual in critical condition fighting for his life. Because of the charring of the corpses and the severe burns of the survivor no one knows who lived. Five women huddle together in the County memorial Hospital waiting to know whether their spouses are alive or not.

Widower Helena Whitworth married J.D. and in spite of their adult children from previous marriages they have been happy together. Italian Anna Montano is the wife of rancher Davis, but he is aloof towards her treating her like an outsider while being nice to her brother. Bar girl Crystal loves her spouse Shelby Howard though he treats her as his trophy wife. Randi had planned to leave her husband Shelby's nephew Jimmy to try to make in the country music world. Schoolteacher Meredith Allen had wondered when her spouse, Kevin, a former high school football hero, will realize that his life did not end at eighteen.

Though this is a strong tale, THE WIDOWS OF WICHITA COUNTY will feel a bit disappointed because readers learn rather quickly who survived. Guilt, shock, and "wishes" are not fully explored though the story line looks deeply at grief and survival following one person making a life for herself and her ailing husband with the help of the widows. Jodi Thomas furbishes a powerful character study that will hook fans of women's fiction, but though the novel will be well received, readers will feel it could have more.

5 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT!!.......2003-08-04

This book was excellent! It had been recommended on one of my book groups online, so I thought I'd try it. After I read the back cover of the book, I wasn't sure if I would like it. Well, I couldn't put it down! The characters were well thought out, the writing was fast paced and the storyline was superb! I haven't enjoyed a good read like this in quite awhile. I was moved to tears, I laughed out loud and I could sympathize with a part of each character. I am critical as a reader (occupational hazard) but found the writing air tight with no errors that made me stop and think, huh? I would highly recommend this book.

I am looking forward to her next book!

5 out of 5 stars Very nice!.......2003-08-01

The oil fields of Texas are the lifeblood of the state, but they are filled with danger that equals their rewards. Just being on them can cost one's life, or leave you hurt.

This point is brought home to a group of diverse women when they are summoned to the hospital after a tragic accident that kills all involved, save one man. Unfortunately, the man has been burned beyond recognition, and no one can tell which of the women is not a widow. Even if they are able to do so, the woman will surely soon be one, or at best be left with a husband facing a very long and painfilled recovery that might leave him better off dead.

Each of the women comes to the waiting room with different things in her heart, one even hopes that she is a widow, while for one, the hope of her husband's survival is paramount. The others love their husbands as well, but only one can leave with a living husband. As they wait and pray, the women form a unique friendship that will see them through the dark days of putting their broken lives back together. As the months and weeks pass, they face emotional and financial crises that will put them to the test, and each of them tries to learn how to love again.

***** The STEEL MAGNOLIAS meets THE ENGLISH PATIENT might be an alternative title for this book. Ms. Thomas' debut modern literature has a warmth and realism that has characterized her past writing, making it accessible to a new audience without abandoning her loyal following. Tears and laughter alike await the reader. *****

1 out of 5 stars Male-dominate viewpoint of the hero a big turn-off........2007-09-19

I couldn't get past the 4th chapter of this book. I'm totally willing to buy into the fantasy of the hunky-hero-comes-to-life .. but once he did, I wanted him back in statue form.

His treatment of the heroine was such a turn off for me, that I couldn't continue the book, therefore the one star.

    4 out of 5 stars Prince.......2007-07-13

I liked this book, it was very different and entertaining. It starts out a little slow but the story line is so unique that it kept me reading. The ending is fantastic. The author has a very good imagination! I can't wait to read more of her books!

5 out of 5 stars Sexy and Funny.......2007-03-21

So I would have given this 4 1/2 stars if availabe, because I found the chick slightly annoying. I wont repeat everything already said but it is a great read and worth youre time and $$. G.S writing style is so unique she manages to be funny, sexy and still have a decent plot!!!

    4 out of 5 stars Liked it...........2006-11-07

I liked this book, just didn't love it. Part of the problem for me was that I just finished reading "A hunger like no other", so to me this was not as exciting, or steamy in comparison. The ending was a little disappointing to me also. It wasn't a bad book, just a little flat.

    5 out of 5 stars funny.......2006-03-01

The story was sooo cute. I especially like the play between Katie and her four over protective brothers. The jokes they play on each other and their interview of her new "boyfriend." The drinking scene and the condom scene were hilarious. Of course the sexual tension was great. Big Warrior Man Shows His Woman a Night of Passion Therefore She Will Fall in Love With Him I guess would be too long of a title, but it basically sums up the whole book. Of course, Katie doesn't agree with becoming intimately involved with someone only for them to leave her for always, so she puts him off. Surprisingly, I can relate better to that than the fall into bed scenes found in most romances.

    Definitely five stars!

Debuting in 1974, John Varley became the decade's freshest, most exciting, and most important new science fiction author. He dominated the Seventies with numerous stories and two novels, set mostly in his Eight Worlds future history. By 1984 he had won three Hugo Awards and two Nebula Awards. Yet his output dwindled through the 1980s, and in the 1990s he released only two novels, Steel Beach and The Golden Globe, a pair of Eight Worlds books that received tepid responses.

Fans who feared Varley was devolving into another Robert A. Heinlein imitator may have mixed reactions to Red Thunder, Varley's first novel of the new millennium. Part of SF's turn-of-the-century trend of "Mars novels," but not part of Varley's Eight Worlds series, Red Thunder reads a lot like a Heinlein juvenile novel, if Heinlein were alive and writing juveniles in 2003. Varley's paying tribute to the Master's juveniles, especially Rocket Ship Galileo and Red Planet (and also, more subtly, to the ending of Alfred Bester's novel The Stars My Destination). Though Varley is working with decades-old tropes and is not in his full wildly-imaginative 1970s mode, Red Thunder is an enjoyable SF novel that should win back many disgruntled fans and gain him a new generation of admirers. --Cynthia Ward

    Book Description

Seven suburban misfits are constructing a spaceship out of old tanker cars. The plan is to beat the Chinese to Mars--in under four days at three million miles an hour. It would be history in the making if it didn't sound so insane.

    Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Free SF Reader.......2007-09-03

All you need to build your own hyperspace ship are a couple of keen to
be educated boys living near a space site in Florida, a hard-nosed sexy
girlfriend, a damaged ultra-genius cajun, and an alcoholic
ex-astronaut. That, and not having to spend too much time helping out
at a decaying old motel, and having a few large pieces of abandoned
    railway metal nearby.

5 out of 5 stars As good as his 70s stuff.......2007-07-17

No one was a bigger fan of Varley's early stuff than me. I remember reading part one of "Titan" I'd accidentally found in the S.F. mag "Analog" in 1981 and desperately looking for the other parts of the serialization before finding out -- joy! -- that it was a full-length book and that Analog had actually taken out some of the best parts, if you know what I mean. I loved Wizard so much I actually wrote Mr. Varley thanking him for the book back in 1982.

But then Varley began doing two things in the 80s that caused my enthusiasm to dwindle almost down to the Planck size. The first was his almost hysterical anti-clercism, particularly in Demon. I really found it pointless, degrading and annoying. The second was a consistent characterization of humans as animalistic, puny and dumb, engaging in only futile, meaningless, meretricious tasks. The Ophiuchi Hotline and the Eight Worlds short stories typified that writing. His anti-humanism and nihilism got so bad I actually referred to him in a review as "science fiction's Peter Singer."

But in the 90s Varley began bouncing back. Even though Steel Beach was an Eight Worlds book, it jettisoned a lot of the nihilism (replacing it, I suppose, with an over-generous amount of existentialism, but at least that's a step in the right direction) and introducing Heinlein leitmotifs. Steel Beach turned out to be an excellent book even though it suffers from the "...and then THIS happened..." syndrome instead of a traditional plot.

Now I finally got a chance to read "Red Thunder" and I loved it. The magic of discovery is front and center, there's a lot of humor, lots of homage to Heinlein (e.g., "Jubal" is the name of one of the main characters) and a great, great story all around. Oh yeah, it's five stars time again!

    4 out of 5 stars A Sci-Fi Joy Ride.......2007-06-01

"Delightful" is not a word I often use, especially to describe sci-fi novels. But "Red Thunder" is a simply delightful read, a fun, fast-paced joy ride of a story. Don't get me wrong, I love high-tech violence and bleak, dystopian futures as much as the next guy, but it's nice to know science fiction can still bring a smile as well.

Which is not to say that "Red Thunder" is total fluff. It tells the story of four Florida teenagers who strike up an unlikely friendship with a disgraced astronaut and his semi-autistic genius brother. The group hatches a scheme to use one of the brother's inventions to build a home-made spaceship, and sets about trying to beat the Chinese to Mars.

If that sounds a bit unlikely, well, sure, it is. Varley puts a lot of effort into making the ship and its propulsion system sound plausible, and he succeeds well enough. The idea of four teenagers becoming a crack team of spacecraft engineers is more of a stretch. But so what? It's fun! You want to see these kids go to Mars, so when the ship develops miraculously fast, you cheer rather than question. Are they going to succeed? Of course. The end is no more in doubt than in a Disney movie. But you still want to go along for the ride.

This is my first encounter with John Varley, and the man is clearly a gifted storyteller. The story fairly bubbles as it moves along. The tone is light, and the characters likable. From what other reviewers have said, Varley has lost a step. If so, I am eager to read his earlier work.

4 out of 5 stars "We were the first!".......2007-01-26

Think, as the characters themselves say, "The Little Rascals Go to Mars," and you'll be close to the flavor of this engaging book. There's also a fair amount of Heinlein juvenile (especially _Rocket Ship Galileo_), which is understandable since Varley is a deep fan of Heinlein. The setting is Daytona, Florida, where Manny Garcia, twenty-year-old heir to a crumbling motel, and his best friend, Dak, and his girl, Kelly, and Dak's girl, Alicia, nearly run over a drunken ex-astronaut on the beach one night. (Lots of Heinleinian names, there, too.) The astronaut is Travis Broussard, one of a large clan of Cajuns from the Florida panhandle, and cousin of Jubal, a mildly autistic Einstein-class genius, who has invented (he's not quite sure how) a "squeezer" -- a device whose nature is never really explained, but which is the potential source of nearly unlimited energy. But Manny and Dak are both space nuts and to them and the girls, the Squeezer means a way of getting to Mars, where American and Chinese spaceships are now headed. With the power source taken care of it, would it really be possible to build -- in the course of one summer and with a budget of only one million dollars -- a privately-owned vehicle capable of getting them to the Red Planet and back? Varley shows you how it might, maybe, possibly, be done. With NASA having done most of the research and testing over the years, and with computers so small and cheap, and with many of the necessary parts (like a food freezer from Sears) purchased off-the-shelf, and with vital specialized hardware like space suits available for a little dickering from Russia, and with Travis's extensive experience as a space pilot, . . . well, why not? I'm sure there are plenty of implausibilities, but who cares? It's all great fun, in any case.

3 out of 5 stars A Great Book for Young..........2006-10-22

Anyone who liked the film "The Explorers" (River Phoenix/Ethan Hawk) will enjoy this book about two young men who run into (quite literally) a Bruce Willisesque former astronaut and his idiot-savant brother who build the impossible; a faster-than-light spaceship that can rescue a team of astronauts stranded in the space between Earth and Mars.

It is a very fast read, you'll have a hard time putting it down. Though slightly implausible, the character development is rich, the action is fairly constant, the humor is dry and well placed, and the storyline ("youth coming of age" meets "story of redemption") is strong.

5 out of 5 stars STRANGE BUT GOOD ROMANCE!.......2003-04-19

I must admit that I gave a five star due to the authors excellent writing but found it hard to tolerate the heroine's obsession with the horses. Horses first, in her book that was the priority.

Ellen has come a long way from her treatment by Garth but still was very insecure. Again was surprised with the way she dealt with Kevin's omissions. With both fighting their attractions, they still hopped in bed with flimzey excuses.

Was great to meet up with Chance and Taryn again. Could understand the brothers' reactions to each other but both were there for each other in time of need.

Garth [deliciously] was the same old scuzzball. And the new evil was another emotionally and psychologically messed up person.

Not quite as many people involved in Red Thunder Reckoning as in Chance's story but still it worked well - kept you on edge somewhat and had a new twist with the horses.

Unanswered question! Was Ellen affected the same way the horses were? If not, why? Didn't she lose any? Did love Blue coming to the rescue.

Will definitely Recommend the set as an excellent read - characters great - stories move at an excellent pace.
Had to be excellent because I couldn't stand Ellen's obsession so the author did come across quite well in her characterizations.

4 out of 5 stars Red Thunder Reckoning.......2002-06-25

Sylvie Kurtz's Flesh and Blood duet concludes in book two, "Red Thunder Reckoning." Years after he caused an accident that almost killed his brother and the woman he loved, Kevin Ransom returns to Texas. That night on the Red Thunder River left him with severe injuries and a new face. No one recognizes him, not even Ellen Paxton, the woman he always loved. Ellen needs his help more than ever. With a dangerous villain targeting her ranch, can she rely on a familiar stranger?

"Red Thunder Reckoning" is a good follow-up to "Remembering Red Thunder," though not as extraordinary. Anybody who hasn't read the first book should read it before this one or you might not understand everything. I don't think this book would have been as easy to follow if I hadn't read the other a few weeks before.

The best part of "Red Thunder Reckoning" is the strong, emotional romance between Kevin and Ellen. Both are wonderful characters, two tough, determined people hiding wounds that only the other person can heal. Ellen is another great heroine who has been through a nightmare (in book one) and now isn't about to stand by and let someone terrorize her life again. Unlike some of the other heroines in this month's Intrigues, there's a good reason for her stubbornness and refusal to back down, so she comes across as strong, not stupid. Kurtz does a good job building the chemistry between Kevin and Ellen, so we can feel how they are meant to be together and how strong their connection is. This is an excellent romance.

Unfortunately the suspense plot is not as strong. The author told us who the villain was in "Remembering Red Thunder" from the very beginning and it really added to the suspense. She does the same thing in "Red Thunder Reckoning" and it doesn't work so well because this villain is nowhere near as scary. So there's not as much suspense. Plus, by constantly taking us into this person's point of view and showing us what is being planned before it happens, it took some of the surprise out of what was going to happen next. However, the author has come up with a very creative motive for the intrigue that most readers won't have seen before. Her characters will keep readers eagerly turning the pages to see them triumph in the end.

"Red Thunder Reckoning" is a wonderful story and a good ending to the saga started in "Remembering Red Thunder."

        Book Description

RED THUNDER is a memoir of a People, the Schee-tsu-umsh Indians, now called the Coeur d'Alene Tribe in Northern Idaho, USA. The story follows several generations of the tribe from birth to adulthood, old age to death and explores the themes of courage, family, love, tragedy and hope.

The author has translated genuine oral histories and incorporated them into the lives of Sun Bear, Rainbow Girl and the tribe of Schee-tsu-umsh Indians. This authentic work displays the rich cultural teachings behind Native American life in a very real and relevant sense that is applicable to our times.

5 out of 5 stars I had to review this book. It was wonderful.......2003-09-10

It's been a while since I reviewed a book, but I had to review this one, because of how much I enjoyed it. That this is Matheson's first attempt at a novel is clear. At times the writing is unsophisticated, and there are a few errors that could have been caught by a good editor, but these are more than made up for by the wonderful story he tells.

What makes this novel, or really history, so unusual is that, unlike most of what we read by and about American Indians, this tells a tale of life before white contact. It is a story of spirituality passed down from generation to generation.

In telling this tale for Indians and non-Indians, Matheson takes care not to reveal sacred rituals, yet I defy anyone who reads it to feel that anything is missing. This is a moving story for all people. Whether or not you believe in the reality or significance of what he tells, you cannot help but feel the deep spirituality of his characters who spend much of their life in prayer and appreciation of thier surroundings.

Matheson can add to his credits of MBA and former tribal chairman, the title of master story teller.

        5 out of 5 stars Timeless wisdom.......2003-07-03

Red thunder is a rare phenomenon, a decisive sign from the Creator in the book that bears its name. Author David Matheson relates that it was a story within him, crying to be written-a story that had never before been told outside the Schee-tsu-umsh tribe. The full story of the times before first contact with Europeans, the times of the legendary Prophet Chief Circling Raven, was a precious secret. The elders guarded their stories because of deep feelings to protect what they had left after first contact when the tribe was renamed Coeur d'Alene. As an elder and former Tribal Chairman, Matheson decided that now was the time to share this remarkable, revered story that depicts actual accounts of the early 1700s when the tribal territory encompassed some four million acres of what are now Northern Idaho, Eastern Washington, and Western Montana. The story is told through the eyes of Sun Boy, whose family band camps near the Huckleberry Mountains. He is 11 years old when the book begins. Sun Boy, whose manhood name becomes Sun Bear because of his harrowing but brave encounter with a grizzly that had attacked his father, relates the story of his extended family and their tribe as he grows up, eventually becoming a respected warrior and a beloved husband and father. However, the main character of the book is his younger sister Rainbow Girl who symbolizes Mother Earth. The book's explicit theme is, "There really is no difference between our everyday life and religion; and no difference between religion and ceremony. So we pray to the Kolunsuten [Creator] to sanction all that we do religiously and ceremonially first, bringing ourselves near to nature that He would move to bless us and fulfill our prayers through nature" (p. 299). When Sun Bear is 21, the plot begins to unfold with the central character, Rainbow Girl, and the tragedy that sets in motion the plot that climaxes with the Creator's miracle for which Chief Circling Raven had beseechingly sought to save his people. Though Sun Bear and his family are fictional characters, the compassionate Chief Circling Raven-whose prophecies were divinely inspired-and the supernatural events (which parallel the biblical account of the parting of the Red Sea) that save them from both the enemy and Grandfather Winter, are actual accounts from the Schee-tsu-umsh people's oral history. Red Thunder is a strong and powerful book with an exciting plot that has both traditional religion and timeless wisdom intricately woven within. ...

        5 out of 5 stars A wonderful experience.......2003-04-24

From beginning to end this book is a wonderful experience for the reader. This book educates the reader about life as a Native American while telling a beautiful story. Impossible to put down, I could not wait to see were the author would take me next. Mr. Matheson's writing style is captivating. As the reader, I felt as though I was actually participating in many parts of this book. I eagerly anticipate more books from David Matheson.

In The Miracle of the Seventh Day, the internationally renowned and highly acclaimed Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz offers the definitive explanation of the miraculous potential of the Sabbath— what it means, and how it can be observed at home with your family. Much like the Haggadah, the guide to the Passover seder, with its step-by-step directions and explanations, this book provides a simple but complete guide to the spiritual content and ritual practice of the seventh day in the home, including commentary on every appropriate observance, ritual, prayer, and song. The book is both an introduction and a program for observing the Sabbath at home, focused on the core intention and goal of this weekly spiritual renewal.

                  5 out of 5 stars Happy Shabbos!.......2007-05-12

Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz has written a beautiful book which shows us how beautiful the Jewish Sabbath can be. This book warmed my heart, quieted my mind, and calmed my soul. "The Miracle of the Seventh Day" is exactly that! Every week when my soul becomes heavy with the burdens, toils, and struggles of the world around me, my inner world, my soul longs for restoration. This book has helped my family and I to receive the blessings of Heaven on the seventh day of the week. The Jewish Sabbath is the one day of the week when Heaven touches all of us, and it helps us leave behind the structured time clock of our physical existence. The "Shabbos Candle" brings light into our lives, in order to transform the mundane events of the previous six days into the most miraculous event of the week. Shabbos not only restores the soul, it restores the mind and body as well. The Joy of Life, Love, and Light can be found on the seventh day. Take this book home with you and place it with "The Candle of G-d", and turn your home into a sanctuary of the seventh day. The miracle of the seventh day is when we separate the Higher world from the lower world. Happy Shabbos!
